God, I love trying to figure out elvish medicine. Though I'm not sure who he's doing the trials on: what do you think? (Also, imagine what kind of medicine they're working on in Mordor...)
🍁 - Physical locations, flora & fauna. And if you want a specific location, Rivendell?
rivendell, in my mind, was a really great place for an emergency stronghold — naturally protected, abundant water, etc. — and yet actually kind of an illogical fit for long-term inhabitation. every day is a struggle against gravity. every structural feature is symbiotic with an ecosystem of lichen feeding on the tiny waterfalls running under literally everything. there is a LOT of interesting mold. and mushrooms. fungi genomes mutating constantly on the unparalleled dampness and lowkey eldritch divinity holding the place together like so much mystical duct tape. mycotherapy breakthroughs on the regular. yeah yeah the hands of the king the hands of the healer but consider that elrond is the president of a wet vertiginous crag full of weird spores who has 5000 years to do clinical trials, THAT'S why he's so good at medicine.

i’m just gonna leave this here as a reminder that “hitting bottom” doesn’t mean “staying on bottom for the rest of your life and dying as a piece of crap”

As a kid, when your parents are poor, you're poor. If they don't have money, that means none of you have money. But if someone's parents are rich, that doesn't necessarily mean the kid is. Sometimes rich peoples' kids aren't rich kids, they're just some rich freak's exotic pets that can talk but aren't allowed to.

Any conspiracy theory about people going missing in National Parks is automatically silly to me. Like "Why are National Parks such a hotbed of disappearances???" because they're full of idiots. You've got thousands of people who've never pissed outdoors in their life wandering around the woods/desert/mountain with zero experience and zero gear and zero understanding that this place can kill them. You don't see as many disappearances in wild areas because people don't go to them unless they have some background knowledge. Whereas you get tour buses full of old folks and suburban families shuttling people into National Parks 365 days a year. If you took the same amount of buffoons and dropped them in the actual wilderness the disappearances would be significantly higher than at the parks. Use your brain.

all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.

Wait, TOLKIEN wrote that? You're not messing with us? Because it sounds like a fandom fix-it type post.
In an undated letter written in the late 1950s, reproduced in THE LETTERS OF JRR TOLKIEN, Tolkien alludes to the legal difficulties Sam faced after returning from the Grey Havens at the end of LORD OF THE RINGS:
When Master Samwise reported the ‘departure over Sea’ of Bilbo (and Frodo) in 1421, it was still held impossible to presume death; and when Master Samwise became Mayor in 1427, a rule was made that: ‘if any inhabitant of the Shire shall pass over Sea in the presence of a reliable witness, with the expressed intention not to return, or in circumstances plainly implying such an intention, he or she shall be deemed to have relinquished all titles rights or properties previously held or occupied, and the heir or heirs thereof shall forthwith enter into possession of these titles, rights, or properties, as is directed by established custom, or by the will and disposition of the departed, as the case may require.’
You can see how the residents of Hobbiton might have seen Sam's return as the premise of a kind of Agatha Christie mystery plot: favorite servant of eccentric middle-aged local resident departs on an unexpected journey with his master; returns home alone two weeks later; and then conveniently produces a copy of said eccentric local resident's new will, naming the servant the heir to all his property — and the only account the servant can offer of his master's whereabouts is a preposterous story about Elves. Suspicious! Very suspicious indeed!

I binge-watched Sandman, if that helps!
Listen it wasn’t the most baffling thing in the world when Netflix canceled Lockwood and co even tho it performed well bc let’s be real, Netflix will basically cancel a show if it breathes wrong…
But do you think that Netflix actually canceled Lockwood and co bc around the time it aired they’d aquired the rights to dead boy detectives (a show with a competingly similar premise to Lockwood and co that has Neil Gaiman attached who’s had two very successful shows in the last few years with Netflix and Amazon prime)… because I do.
Like to me that’s the missing puzzle piece of what happened there

The problem is that I only read the bold sentence, and not the rest of it.
Anon says that when multiple sentences are bolded, they become unreadable. They're unsure why, since common wisdom holds that bolding should make it easier for people with reading- or language-related disabilities to read a long block of text.
I (pollmonger) would posit that bold isn't meant to be used for full sentences and bold sentences are (generally speaking) harder to read. If you emphasize everything, you effectively emphasize nothing. The most useful application of bold text is for short, salient keywords. But we're interested to see what others think.
We ask your questions so you don’t have to! Submit your questions to have them posted anonymously as polls.
