Likeness based loosely on Mia Sara in the film Legend. And also on Liv Tyler because she is forever now in my brain as the peak of Elven beauty. She had another hand and then she lost it because my brain said “I can’t draw another hand tonight”
So far I haven’t seen much sibling-interaction drawings of Nienna with her brothers :( So here’s my piece! I ended up drawing them in their “humanoid” forms; I imagine these are their forms that are closest to their non-humanoid ones (the designs I’ve been drawing for them). But after meeting the Elves, all the Valar adjust their otherworldly forms to look more like them. You know, so they don’t frighten the Elves so much XDDD
So to the people drawing Maedhros with a prosthetic hand, I need you all to know, as a prosthetic user, that there is usually two layers in between the actual limb and the prosthetic. The first, that goes against the skin, is just a sock. Ideally, it should not have a seam going from top to bottom, as that seam will be squished against the skin all day and cause irritation and pain. The second layer is a liner, which is made of thicker but still pliable material. You need to wear these layers or else the hard metal or wood or whatever material of your prosthetic will cause extreme amounts of pain.
Examples of liners. Modern silicon ones may touch the skin, personally those kinds irritate my skin, so I use the foamish liner and socks. Maedhros lived before silicon, so he probably would have warn a sock with some type of soft liner, perhaps out of some kind of leather.
Examples of socks, I used the second kind.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the limbs naturally swell and shrink on any given day, so thicker socks are warn on days when the limb is not swollen, and thinner socks on the days when it is.
Also, and I cannot empathize this enough, we do not wear our prosthetics to bed. If you do, you will wake up in a world of hurt!
I usually take my prosthetics off when I relax at home, but I can see Maedhros wearing them all the time except in bed out of pride. But I can also see him just not bothering to get a prosthetic for his arm, too. Do not be afraid of drawing The Stub
