Elevate! 2022: Day Five!

The gateway is in sight! We're sure it's not made up at all, and that you really can get there if you wear linen 🤪 We've got our biggest day of the week with three new fics and one new podfic to help you elevate, just in time for the weekend!

On the first day, Alexis sits across the counter from Twyla and orders a smoothie. Once Twyla delivers it, she toys with the straw in a way that is — impossibly, simultaneously — nervous and seductive.

“Could I come over tonight, Twy?” she asks.

Stavros may have saved her and whisked her off to the White Party, but now Alexis has been dumped back in Schitt's Creek, and is figuring out what to do with herself. What better way to keep her skills sharp than join the all female shift of the Elm Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Apparently, the employees didn’t bother doing, like, a sweep before locking the door or whatever.” There’s a brief pause, during which Twyla watches Alexis roll her eyes. “Yes, there is an emergency. We’re locked inside Brebner’s. Did you not hea— No. No, no one’s hurt. No, I guess we’re not in, like, actual danger, but… '' Alexis blinks several times. “I did call the police. You’re 9-1 — Oh. You mean the police station. Okay. Dial what? Okay. Okay, fine. Bye.”

Alexis hangs up her phone before giving Twyla a meaningful look. “This is gonna take a while.”

Or: Twyla Sands didn't have 'get locked in Brebner's overnight with her high school sweetheart' on her bingo card this here, but... Well, here they are. It's going to be a long night.

Note

we're pretty sure any ship central to any Elevate! fic would qualify as a rarepair (all F/F ships combined account for only about 7% of SC fics), and if you're not convinced, we've got some extra-rare ones - Rachel/Shannon? Alexis/Ruth? Alexis/Stevie/Twyla/Ruth? Tennessee/Heather, Stevie/Heather, Rachel/Heather? and if you dip into last year's Elevate!, there was definitely Moira/Jocelyn and Moira/Ronnie, and also probably more Ultra-Rare ShipsTM, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

I'm completing the SC Summer Fic Reading Challenge but am VERY new to the fandom. Can you rec a couple rarepair fics? I'm not even sure what would be considered a rarepair

What a great way to dive into the fandom! Taking on the reading challenge was an excellent way to get started.

For the farm witches, the definition of "rarepair" is essentially any pairing that's not David and Patrick, since they are the pair that has the most fics written about them.

Rather than give specific titles on this one, we're going to suggest some resources that are absolutely killing the rarepair game.

First, a hot tip: The Reading Challenge spreadsheet has built-in links for many of the fic categories. You can click the highlighted blue words at the top of the column to bring up a list of fics for that category. (Our minds were blown when someone pointed this out to us.)

Second, @scraregenrecs provides monthly roundups of both rare-ship and no-ship fanworks, so that would be an excellent blog to visit/follow.

Third, @elevatefemslash just wrapped up and there were some fantastic fics again this year.
