This image to some could resemble a pattern of art, but it is not art. This is a drawing of the lower deck of an African Slave Cargo ship. As early as the later 1400’s , Europeans mined & hunted for Ivory, Gold, and other commodities in West Africa; the largest commodity became the African People. Africans were kidnapped into slavery to be shipped to the Americas (including the Carribbean & South America) for free labor. Africans were used to build North America, mostly in cultivating plantations for tobacco, cotton, & rice production. Today, many Governors of States are attempting to further hide & ban teaching this history. Facts are truth. The truth is this systemic act occurred for over 400 years. Slavery built much of this country. Slavery is Black History. Slavery was a horrendous & inhumane system that birthed the racism that lives today. Fact is that truth never dies. No matter whom attempts to ban books or unteach history to younger generations, truth lives. This happened, and truth always finds justice, no matter how long it takes. Black Americans are born into forgiving. Black Americans want to understand why others will not fully acknowledge facts, and move forward into equality and rid of systemic teachings there are simply not true. On the Anniversary of January 6th, may we remember that these extremists &!their extreme movement are alive today. The disarray that was unleashed by the MAGA movement has not been distinguished. Today may we “NEVER FORGET”, and honor the US Capital Police & the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia for holding the Capital for hours without other law enforcement reinforcement. On January 6th they protected the property of the Capital building, Members of Congress and the peaceful transition of power (democracy). There is a strong message that all must send as citizens to demand that politicians condemn political violence & extremists. The majority of American people far out number those that have no moral compass or understanding of history. Abraham Lincoln said, “In this age, in this country, public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail; against it, nothing can succeed. Whoever molds public sentiment goes deeper than he who enacts statutes, or pronounces judicial decisions”. It is staggering that on the anniversary of January 6th, two years later, the House is in deadlock for the 4th day to elect a Speaker of the House by the Republican Party. This is chaos, weak, embarrassing, & irresponsible. I am hopeful that this ugly display of power hungry politicians is finally crumbling. understanding that this has become finally that this is not serving the people or democracy. There had not been an artist that I personally had the honor to work with at the beginning of their career from day one that I believed in more than John. The opportunity to promote & market “many greats” @columbiarecords , that happened! With John, me & other great executives on my team at the time were beginning from scratch. Mostly, no one could put-work what became known as “The Legend”. Many doubted, … we claimed… “see you at the Grammy’s”. He became @johnlegend ⭐️🎶. What is more important is that he “was to be” the influence in the next generation of true musicians. He is not only one of the truest song writers & musician of modern era that also resemble old school influences (lyricist & piano player) that still fill popular & souls music; we always knew he would create until the end of his life in a significant way. He is my friend. I am in awe of what he has accomplished. Mostly, I love he & his beautiful family so so much . Happy Birthday John. My all time favorite person, my maternal Grandmother Charlotte & me on Christmas Eve…. Circa 1971 . I miss her everyday, hear her voice, smell her aromas of Turkey, stuffing & Apple Pie . Each year, even after my Grandfather passed, she continued to cut down her own Christmas tree 🎄 off of the farm (like the one shown here). She, to me, was pure in what faith, tradition, love & simplicity were about in Christmas. Everyday the arduous season we are living in we can be reminded that it is not abutting to what those generations before us experienced. Even still, in the midst of a time that many are divided in how society should be shaped for the future & clinch on to the past, historic advancement still can still punch forward. Harvard University appoints the first Black President, Claudine Gay (an American Woman & child of Haitian immigrants). It is historic changes that will continue to chip away at the balance to our society.
