Elsternwick Anniversary + Upcoming Event! (03-31-24)

Good afternoon, and hello to all members of Elsternwick, or those just joining us for a quick visit! We hope that your day is well! Sorry to keep you waiting on this update, we've been busy with quite a few plans! We're just going to get right into it!

Once again, it is our anniversary!

Elsternwick (re)opened its doors on March 11th 2021, and in the three years since then, we couldn't have imagined the outpouring of love, creativity, and amazing writing we have received since opening! It's been an amazing second year, and we're ready to enter the third year no matter what may happen!

Our second year introduced jobs and changes to the town (Including the loss of the maligned police station), the solidification of the Comedy points running gag into an actual system (With comedy themed comedy dungeons!), many new faces, and more than a few adventures involving emotions and alternate selves! We hope you enjoyed Emotions Run High and Dark Reflections!

There was quite a bit of seriousness to be seen, so this year, our events will hopefully have a little less stakes and more fun! We have a lot of work to do for our upcoming event, but we hope you'll look forward to them! We still have to figure them out, but hopefully they'll be lighthearted fun!

In addition, in the coming weeks, we'll be creating a Google Document Master List to better organize our list of muses, due to how confusing some of the muse lists can be on our end with Tumblr, we'll be sure to keep you updated on how it's going!

Lastly, as ever, whenever Elsternwick's anniversary rolls around, we have special activities planned and taking place!

This year, take place in the high(?) stakes Quiz Show run by the dapper skeleton Reynald in Reynald's Riveting Rapid Fire Quiz Show! You and your muses will be quizzed on various happenings from Elsternwick's past, with fabulous prizes for you, should you succeed!

As with last year, there will be various celebrations across town, from a masquerade ball, a special fair held at Arcadia Carnival, and a few returning faces across Elsternwick, be sure to be on the lookout for some old friends... and foes across town!

We hope you'll have fun... but that is not the only event that will take place!

Spring has come to Elsternwick, and with it, new life has been breathed into the town, all across the area, flowers and greenery are growing in abundance (after a mushroom has been slain, of course), brids are singing, rivers are flowing, everything is growing and full o flife... perhaps... too much life!

Plant life is growing out of control and becoming rowdy, wildlife is getting bold and entering town, rivers are positively overflowing with water and fish, and of course, Spring Court Faeries are wandering into town to seek mischief, you'll need to be on guard, things might just get a little chaotic in our Spring Event, which is yet to be named!

It will run until the beginning of June, and will start once a certain encounter has been cleared!

We hope you'll look forward to that as well!

And finally, as you may know, tomorrow is April Fools Day! As with last year, we will have a light hearted little joke that will take place throughout the day starting at midnight, we hope you'll have a rootin' tootin' time if you're here for it!

And that about wraps it up!

We were also going to have a muse list update in this post, but there's already a lot to take in, so for now, we'll keep it as this!

Hello Again!

Nice to see you all again, sorry for a lack of updates, we've been quite busy!

We'll have a proper Elsternwick update hopefully soon, covering our three year anniversary event (Started March 11th, 2024!), as well as our upcoming spring event (Coinciding with the anniversary, of course), and an update to our character list (We will be making a brand new master list document that is easier to navigate!)

The main reason for this post is because we're having a bit of a problem, namely, trying to invite people whose applications have been accepted, but we cannot contact!

In the past, we've requested that you have at least one way to contact you to get you invited to the Discord Group, and sometimes, we'll get an applicant who only posts their discord handle... and when we try to invite them, we find that we cannot friend them for various reasons (Usually due to settings that won't let us friend them!), or the name they offered us was wrong!

This has happened seven times now, with perfectly fine and great applicants, but we cannot contact or reach out to them to get them in the discord group!

So, as a reminder, if you send in an application and only list a discord handle, please either include an alternate way to contact you, or make sure your handle is up to date and correct!

If you have sent in an application to Elsternwick in the past few months and are unsure you've been accepted, it couldn't hurt to reach out to us on here either anonymously or with your tumblr account to triple check, we can easily send you a link to join us via asked answers or a direct message! As mentioned, there's quite a few people accepted we want to get into the group but cannot contact them...

“Gracious friend, you have been chosen to visit our lovely city… come to Wondrous Elsternwick, near the nexus point of the multiverse!”

No matter who, what, where, or when you are in the wider multiverse, you have received a fine written letter, inviting you to take a vacation to Elsternwick, a beautiful riverside town!

In this amazing place, Magic and technology have come together to make all sorts of fantastic inventions, and its proximity to the “Nexus Point” has caused all sorts of strange things to pop up in the nearby forest… you can choose to help with the research of these anomalies, go on adventures unrelated to them, go on your own journey to understand the strange things that populate these lands, seek your own fortune, or simply unwind in the beautiful town of Elsternwick as a place to relax! You’re free to leave and return home at any time as well, no strings attached!

The town is always changing with the seasons, and its many events, given all the strange things that can happen with the multiverse!

Given their pride, they have invited everyone, even rough types and villains are allowed in town! So long as they behave, of course...

Elsternwick is a Discord RP server, we allow all sorts of fun plots & events to happen, and there are many interesting places to visit and explore! All the while you’ll be having your own kind of unique happenings with your character, be they an original character, a fan character for something already else set up, or a canon character!

We’re a group that focuses on the lighter aspects of roleplaying (as well as crossovers), the fun and adventure that can come about from unique interactions in a wondrous setting, while also allowing for the potential of some more serious plots, and allowing you take your own pace in both reply speed and plot progression! We are also very laid back, chill, and friendly to practically everyone!

Some other features include…

Canon characters,Original Characters & Fan Characters, and maybe even some self-inserts (if done well) accepted!

PG-13 Group!

Events ran by both players and mods/admins, can feature original settings and stories, as well as visits or takes on canon plots & locations! You’re also free to DM regular threads if you want, just be sure to run it by the team first <:

NPCs can be played by the moderator team, or even just regular players as long as they fit and can have fun stuff done with them! You can even promote an NPC to a full player character if you like them well enough

Get your muse a job! Elsternwick is always hiring with many jobs, some simple, some complicated, and some inspired by places from across the many different universes! You can do these to help inspire threads, get rewards for your muses, or simply add flavor to other RPs!

“Dungeon Runs” of varying flavors semi-regularly, have your character investigate the mysterious ruins for the thrill of combat and loot! You never know what might be lurking down there!

“Expeditions” that take you beyond Elsternwick, to other towns, and even worlds beyond your own, and other places beyond your wildest dreams!

Dedicated dice rolling bot allows for combat with some stakes, and outcomes one might not expect! (Dice aren’t used for every action!)

Not a fighter? No problem! There’s plenty of odd jobs around the city waiting for you! You could also always help with puzzles and negotiations!

All formats of Roleplaying Accepted! (Text/Script, Paragraph, even long form!)

Many types of plots & developments accepted, be it fun and carefree, or serious with some high stakes behind it!

New areas and locations being added constantly, some depending on characters coming in, and some being “unlocked” for completing events!

Buildings and new locations are added semi-regularly, and sometimes depend on player input and choices, be careful, you could help or hinder all player characters present!

Laid back environment with friendly people, while also allowing a wide variety of developments and changes!

Small Update!

Hello again, citizens and visitors of Elsternwick!

We hope the month of January was fun and productive for you, we had a fun with the Terrible Tundra of Tiny Terror, but as with all seasonal events, it has come to an end as all the little mischief makers have returned to their home until the next coming winter! We had quite a bit of fun though-...

We even began something a little experimental, a "mini-story" event, which is smaller than our usual story events, but still has enough to interest you, we're calling it "Heart of Ice", because of an awful crystalline curse curating your muse's emotions, depriving them of feeling anything, and eventually transforming them into an ciy monster! It lasts until the end of February, so there's still time to subject your muse to a chilling fate, if you so desire!

In addition to these small updates, we primarily wanted to have a small reminder to anyone looking to join Elsternwick.

We've been open for around three years (Our third anniversary is next month!), but one strangely common thread that's prevented us from inviting applicants that passed our review process is something that's easily preventable, being unable to contact the applicant!

If you've sent in an application to Elsternwick in the past few years, the reason why you may have not gotten an invitation is simply because you gave us one way to contact you, and then it turns out that contact does not work!

Please, remember to include multiple ways to contact you if possible in your application, this helps us out if your discord name has changed, you forget to enable friend requests from people you know, or something like that!

It doesn't have to be all your preferred ways of contact, but it can make things simpler, of course!

And secondly, we would like to remind everyone that you cannot join Elsternwick unless you actually fill in an application!

You are free to get a spectator role (Allowing you to look around before actually joining) by simply sending in an ask, but to fully join you still need to fill in an application, once it's cleared, you'll be in!

The reason why we have applications and forms is to ensure a level of quality and comfort for our other players, and to sniff out any bad actors rejected from other RP groups for inappropriate behavior, or malicious intent, please understand!

And that does it for our little small update, we'll have a larger update for Elsternwick's Anniversary on the 11th of March, we hope you'll be looking forward to it!

Hello and good morning! You'll only be not allowed to join Elsternwick if we feel there is a lot missing from your application, or there's something wrong with your character (Such as being on the ban list,) or somehow fail our background check, we look into the backgrounds of all our applicants to be safe, but yes, you can join.

You should still be able to send an application via the form links listed in our how to join/Application section, you cannot sidestep the application process, sorry!

Elsternwick Holiday Update (12-22-23)

Good evening, and very happy holidays to everyone! We hope the past few months have treated you all well, we have been very busy these past few weeks, but we're finally ready to post an update to those who follow us, or have just stumbled upon us in the search results!

Quite a few things have happened in Elsternwick since our last update covering the Autumn Update, and what better day to update things than on the Winter Solstice? Let's begin!

Terrible Tundra of Tiny Terror (Holiday Update) {December 2nd - February 2nd)}

A chill wind blows through the river town of Elsternwick, a blizzard settled over the town as odd occurrences within the nexus coincided at the worst possible time...

It's winter, yes, but something is truly odd around town! Besides the feet of snow and blistering cold, you spy odd footprints within the snow, giggling behind every corner, as well as small claw marks here and there.

Not only that, but attempts to leave Elsternwick are thwarted, should you go beyond the mountains to the east, or the deepest parts of the woods to the west, you'll instead be transported to a vast tundra filled with strange creatures of all shapes and sizes...

Whatever plagues the area have one thing in common...

They are all very small, and you may just be as tiny before you know it!

Welcome to Elsternwick's third annual Holiday update!

As with our previous Autumn event, this time we decided to have a central theme to allow for sandbox work, the theme this year, as you may have guessed, are tiny terrors!

Killer dolls, mischievous gremlins, the Yule Lads and Krampus' little helpers, as long as they are tiny, they'll be causing trouble for the Winter Season in Elsternwick!

Though, if you're feeling more adventurous, perhaps you can take a journey into the titular Tundra of Tiny Terror, whenever you enter, you can explore to find strange creatures, beautiful treasure, and of course, various rewards, but be warned, for its odd properties may cause creatures that are normally small to become big problems!

If you'd rather avoid your muse getting launched out of a window, you can instead opt to turn your muse small, perhaps into a living doll, as a small animal, or perhaps something else tiny, it's all up to you!

As with most of our events, this is a sandbox style event where you can participate however you like, we look forward to how you'll engage with it in a creative manner!

(As before, the Terrible Tundra is something of an open area with extra incentives for rewards if you're feeling like having an adventure!)

This event will run until the end of January, so you have plenty of time to get creative, think big, or small, it doesn't matter, we look forward to what you have in store!

If you wish to run an encounter, don't be shy, simply let people know and the mods will let you run loose as long as it's within reason!

Don't get cold feet, we're sure you'll do great in this event!

Secondly, we have a character update to sort through, so let's get to that!

Januscary...?

Just about done with updates, 2023 is rapidly coming to a close, and we're excited for what lies in wait for 2024, we've already got a few ideas for what's to come, including next month in the month of January-...

A somewhat uncommon trend is to release horror movies or do scary things in January, and we thought it might be fun to attempt that this year, Terrible Tundra of Tiny Terror will continue to run, but we just might have some other frightening treats for the month as well!

The aforementioned Army of Darkness adventure by Shin will be played then, which inspired by the movie of the same name, involving the undead, time travel, and the time of the vikings, but that doesn't have to be the only thing we have planned! We may have some other bonechilling encounters figured out by then, we'll be sure to keep you updated as the time comes, but if that inspires you, we'd love to hear what you have in mind!

Autumn Update! (10-7-23)

Good afternoon, and hello again! Sorry again to keep you all waiting, but we've got quite a lot to cover, so let's get right to it!

Halloween Update! (September 21st - November 15th)

Things have already been strange in Elsternwick lately, between the emotional energy overflow, and the strange reflections that act as portals to other dimensions, things can't possibly get any stranger, could they?

Well, a week or so ago, a large pale moon began to hang in the sky, bringing with it an ominous and strange feeling to the entire surrounding town and beyond...

Waters began to rise higher around the lakes, rivers, and shores, and that was just the beginning, strange phenomena began to take place in the general area as the leaves began to change color, the nights begin to get longer, and the air begins to grow cold.

Around the river running through town, you can hear odd sounds resembling cries, strange larger than normal fish are being reeled in, and the water is splashing about in an odd way...

Bizarre, long lost treasure is being washed onto the shores, with sightings of Ghost Ships being reported near daily, and you can see strange eyes looking at you from the tides...

A harrowing mist rises from the lake, obscuring visions as you see odd figures darting about the mist, calling you to take a swim as scaled creatures stalk the woods...

And perhaps worst of all, a lot of odd activity is centered in the Science District, the School is flooded and some people have gone missing, a black and white monochrome horror from films long past stalks the alleyways, a wicked book is causing trouble, and a thunderstorm always seems to be going on...

Why can't there just be a normal Halloween in Elsternwick for once...?

Welcome to our third annual Halloween Event in Elsternwick, Depths of Fear!

It runs concurrently with our other event, Dark Reflections (Which is still going and has gotten an extension to November 15th, coincidentally when this one ends!))

The theme of this years Halloween Horror is everything related to Water!

Spirits on the lake, riverside monsters, and folktales of the sea, everything works well! It's all up to you to see how your muse will deal with all of this nautical nonsense!

As last year, this is a sandbox event with some focus, there will be numerous activities your muse can participate in to celebrate the season, or perhaps get a little extra rewards for their help! (In particular, the Science District is a focal point for high strangeness, help them and you will be rewarded...)

Don't fret if you miss anything! There's plenty of time, and in particular, we have a special adventure dungeon running up, an adventure inspired by the '90s Film Army of Darkness, run by Shin, which will start soon! A time traveling action, horror and comedy adventure you won't want to miss.

If you want to run something in this event, don't be shy! Everyone can DM stuff as long as the mods are fine with it! <: We look forward to seeing what you'll do with this, and hope you won't end up in a watery grave...

In addition, it's been a little while since we did a character update, huh? So, let's get to that next!

Lastly, we would just like to re-iterate a bit about NPCs and DMing!

In Elsternwick, everyone is capable of having NPCs , and is allowed to DM (Dungeon Master) Encounters, provided you've asked the moderator team first!

What is an NPC? An NPC is a Non-Player Character, a less important person there to facilitate Roleplay, be the center part of an encounter, or otherwise something there to add flavor (like someone who works at a location!).

You should never use NPCs for encounters you are not writing, because they don't get any rewards for helping! (Though, you could have them assist your apped characters in some ways, don't be surprised if the DM doesn't ask for rolls for NPCs for brevity!)

Basically, think of them are extra flavoring for encounters or RPs, and not the star attraction, which is your apped characters!

Though, NPCs could still be used as the main part encounters, of course, provided they're bosses or something like a major ally, or be used for funny shenanigans now and again!

And secondly, DMed encounters are just that, encounters or adventures you yourself run and manage, you manage the rolls, the story unfolding (With help from the players!), and you're the storyteller!

When you want to specifically DM something with more than one player, simply mention your idea so the Mods can OK it, do an interest check (keeping track of who's interested!), and then set it up as if it was a dungeon or something to that effect,it's easy!

Everyone in Elsternwick can run encounters, though if you have rewards, you should ask the mods first, and we can adjust them if we feel they're too low or too high, don't be shy, we're sure everyone would love to interact with your ideas!

There's many different encounters you could do! You could put in extra work for a dungeon/adventure, you could tell a simple story at the campfire, you could make a fae problem for muses to deal with, or create a monster to fight in the woods... or, you could work with the current event theme and have a specific problem arise! The only limit is your imagination, and we can't wait to see what you all do! <:

Would characters from the Touchstarved Visual Novel be allowed to be applied for? I'm asking in advance solely bc of the games gritty and violent content [They do have a list of trigger warnings on their kickstarter, if I recall correctly] and the fact that it is currently demo only. To be exact, the character I'm thinking of is Kuras. This is also such a cool group, and I'll def be figuring out someone to send in if you decide Kuras is a touch too dark!

After about a few hours of research, it's very good that you asked about this in advance! O:

To answer your first question, the trigger list provided by the kickstarter (And the demo!) does not trigger any of our hard "nos", so you're good on that front! The protagonist who has a touch that more or less mind controls its victims would be more dicey, but from our research, it looks like Kuras doesn't trigger that, so it looks like he's good!

Secondly, Touchstarved is not yet released, but we believe that a demo is more than enough to allow this character as long as it informs us of what he's like, and if there is a clear vision of where his arc is likely to go (An example of this is how we have Gabriel from ULTRAKILL, which is not yet released, but he has enough dialogue and it's very clear where his character arc is going), then he's perfectly fine to be apped!

So, to put it shortly: Yes, we believe Kuras should be fine to app if the demo has enough to work with for his character, and you're fine updating some stuff when the full game releases!

Dark Reflections (Event)

The Emotional Energy that has plagued Elsternwick for six months has finally been safely vented away properly, but the method of disposal had unintended consequences...

Many different universes, familiar and otherwise, have been drawn closer to Elsternwick’s nexus, and as a result everything that can cast a reflection now can potentially lead to other worlds.

And with it, reflections of Elsternwick’s Citizens can step right through and cause as much trouble as they want...

Welcome to Elsternwick’s Second Event: Dark Reflections!

Elsternwick has, for the most part, returned to normal, but numerous other universes and neighboring realities are closer than ever before, what does that mean, exactly?

It’s easier than ever to enter other universes, but what’s more likely is other universes are going to intrude upon Elsternwick!

In particular, several reflections of characters from other universes are capable of reaching out and simply stepping into town, and for whatever reason, many of these reflections are the worst possible versions of people who are already in town!

The Man in the Mirror

Wicked “reflections” of your character (or “good”, if your muse is already evil!) are going to be capable of appearing in Elsternwick and causing trouble, or perhaps they’ll even swap places with your character (necessitating a journey to get the original back), and will be able to cause as much mischief, trouble, or harmless fun as they want!

Basically: You can bring in an evil, bad end, or otherwise “worst” version of your muse to facilitate threads or plots! These could be DM’d encounters, or just a simple one-off for fun, it’s up to you how you’ll handle this!

In particular, there will be four “Boss’ reflections, one a month leading into the event’s finale!

We have the schedule right here! Now, mind you, even if you’re not DMing a “Boss” encounter, you can still have an evil version of your muse cause trouble, or perhaps help one of these “bosses”!

July - Battle with a Kaiju under a Blazing Sun (A fight against a different version of Ren, the resident very tall Mermaid played by Gale)

August - Grimm's Regrets ( An ephermeal encounter with an alternate version of Grimm, who brought the world of dream and reality together, will he repeat the same mistake in Elsternwick? Best not to let him try. DMed by Angie!)

Bonus - Favors for the Faery Queen (A combat free encounter with an extraordinarily powerful archfae. You will need to entertain a faery and play games with her, lest she try to bring her version of eternity to Elsternwick. Shin DMs will be DMing the RSVP)

September - Hen's Untitled Darkness Takes Over ( A finale for the Dark Reflections event. What will happen? No one knows! But you won’t want to miss this!) A final RP DMed by Hen!)

Another Side Of You

Though many different worlds are closer to Elsternwick than before, it’s not all bad, you could visit other realities without help, or, perhaps, you’d prefer to get help from other realities!

Like last event (Emotions Run High), your muse will be able to form a connection with something from another world, and give them a helping hand to fight against these wicked reflections that are plaguing Elsternwick.

Perhaps your muse will become a superhero? Or maybe they’ll get an ability or power from something already established... or, maybe you just want to make them a magical girl? All options are possible!

Of course, you can keep your muse as is, if you prefer! This is just another option to facllitate RP!

No Need To Reflect On Things.

As with our last event, if you’re simply not interested in interacting with this event, that’s perfectly alright too!

As with our previous event, we will be using our “Danger” system, which is to say, you can assign a level of “danger” you’re comfortable with doing with your muse!

Here’s a quick summary from before!

“None being an opt-out Low being one for your muse to take more of a supportive role on the backlines with very low chance of danger, such as giving therapy or words of support to others, or helping people who have been hurt Medium being a higher level of danger, such as being in the field doing research, helping others take down a monster, etc. High being your muse actively going out to fight monsters at great risk to themselves , throwing themselves as a shield against others, investigating dangerous anomalies, etc Danger being that your muse is causing trouble and you’re open to DMing threads involving them! “

And even if you don’t participate, there’s still plenty to do in Elsternwick! Barring the reflections, Elsternwick has returned to normal in the middle of summer, and there’s no shortage of things to do!

You could go fishing, hunt for remaining emotional monsters, assist with science research, or maybe kick back and relax at the beach with some fun summer activities! It’s all up to you how you engage with the event, and we won’t force you to participate if you don’t want to!

All Good Things End

Unlike the last event, this event has a set end date to help keep things focused and snappy!

Dark Reflections will run from July 11th, 2023, to September 20th, 2023 ending right in time for our annual Autumn festivities!

We believe this is more than enough time to get the most out of this concept, and we’re very eager to see what you do with the concept!

It’s only our second event in Elsternwick, but we are still very eager to see what you’ll do with this broad concept, and we hope you’re looking forward to it and enjoying it along with us!

How long does approval generally take?

Hello!

It generally depends on how busy our mod team is, but usually we try to take care of it before one week has passed, but if all of us are busy it could take longer!

It varies but the longest it's ever taken us was two weeks, but we don't think that it will take that long!
