So well said. So very well said. And almost exactly my thoughts ...
Kíli and Tauriel: A different take
I know that a lot of people are really pissed about this “romance” between Kíli and Tauriel… especially when considering this weird “love triangle” aspect with Legolas. So I, while fully admitting that I find the whole thing kind of laughable, am going to defend the writers’ decision on this matter - because I think that a lot of people are hating on Tauriel when they shouldn’t be.

Mmm, yeah. I'm pretty much in love with the Elves ... they're why I want to be in Middle Earth. I think, perchance, I may be one ...

Say what you will, I actually really heart this dynamic ... Tauriel is kickass, and has her own mind. Of course she's going to be intrigued by the reckless, and tall, and seriously attractive dwarf. Meanwhile, Kili's recklessness makes him appreciate her fierceness and independence (plus, she's gorgeous) ...

Summer Reading!
Yeah, yeah. I know. It's still October. I've yet to open a Christmas novel, see a Christmas movie or listen to one of my Christmas CDs. (I did however, buy Christmas cards and three new figures for the village yesterday. Don't judge). BUT I am seriously geeking out over the themes for the 2014 and 2015 summer reading programs.
Majorly. Geeking. Out.
2014: Science! With a YA slogan of "Spark a Reaction!"
2015: Heroes! (!!!!) With a YA slogan of "Unmask!"
While I'm super giddy over the 2015 focus on heroes (one of my personal favorite of all literary ideas), there's some major sparking taking place in my brain about 2014's science ... Because, as story-minded as I am, this girl has a major science-geek streak. Specifically astronomical and geological. There's something about stars and stones that speak to me ... I seriously considered majoring in astrophysics as an undergrad.
Science and summer reading? I can totally do this. The trick will be convincing my teenlings to come ...
Now, to brainstorm ...

See the Reference Librarian and the joys that appertain to her; Who shall estimate the contents and the area of the brain to her? See the people seeking wisdom from the four winds ever blown to her, For they know there is no knowledge known to mortals but is known to her; See this flower of perfect knowledge, blooming like a lush geranium, All converging rays of wisdom focused just beneath her cranium; She is stuffed with erudition as you’d stuff a leather cushion, And her wisdom is her specialty - it’s marketing her mission. How they throng to her, all empty, groveling in their insufficience; How they come from her, o’erflooded by the sea of her omniscience! And they know she knows she knows things; while she drips her learned theses The percentage of illiteracy perceptibly decreases. Ah, they know she knows she knows things, and her look is education; And to look at her is culture, and to know her is salvation.

From Clearwater Public Library on Pinterest (this is hilrious):
“idea-lab: “Sharks get their own week: people go crazy. Library cards get their own month: *crickets* Solution: issue library cards to sharks.” Carnegie-Stout can do that.”
