dragon age inquisition is the only story i’ve seen that’s bold enough to ask - what if we attempt the found family trope, but half of your found family are so catholic they’re in line to be the pope and also you start out as pretty much a hostage

s/o to angry lavellans
lavellans incredulous when cassandra suggested it was some failing on their part to not include the maker with their own gods, as if the chantry hasn’t waged war against the “heathens” for centuries attempting to convert them by force, and then when they ran, outlawed the worship of their gods and taught in their doctrine that elves are inherently more sinful than humans, as if the problem is that elves aren’t embracing the maker and not that the chantry will not let them practice their own religion lawfully
lavellans relieved to meet solas and sera, expecting two elves who care about the plight of the vulnerable and oppressed to care about their people, too, only to find them both cruelly dismissive, sera disgusted with elves and refusing to acknowledge that they’re an oppressed minority who are the very definition of “little people,” instead insisting that they’re not even “people” at all; solas arrogantly dismissive of their culture because it is different than the culture of elvhenan, calling them ignorant children for doing their best with what little information is available to them, assuming that they have so little because they’re too arrogant to seek out more and not because it is not available to them because it has been lost to history
lavellans embarrassed at being expected to translate ancient elvish when the inquisition was investigating the elven ruins corypheus was sacking, and not being able to because the chantry destroyed their language and outlawed them from speaking it
lavellans having to smile and say thank you when chantry mothers tell them that the maker loves them despite the fact that their very nature makes them more sinful than humans
lavellans listening to people tell them lies and untruths about their own culture, fucking baffled by these shems insisting that the dalish leave their children to die rather than suffer having another mage in their clan, as if the dalish never speak to each other, never communicate to each other, and as if the danger of having one more mage in your clan for a few weeks is so much greater than the danger they’re already in just by existing outside of the circle that it justifies the murder of children - lavellan listening to this and understanding that this is just more blood libel about their people, no less than the stories that they kidnap human infants for blood magic
lavellans who put their trust in their advisors to keep their family safe because for some reason going to help them in person was not an option, and then getting the slap to the fucking face that is being told by a messenger that their entire clan has been brutally murdered, and then nobody has fuckin boo to say about it for two goddamn years
lavellans enduring morrigan talking down to them about their own culture, insisting that she’s better-learned about elven history and elven magic because she stole a couple of artifacts from them, forgetting that in dalish culture all the people have a right to any of their precious artifacts and that every clan gets together every 10 years to exchange knowledge and stories, and that therefore there is no possible way a mage of the dalish would know less than an outsider of their own history, and listening to this shem tell them to their fucking face that her desire for more “knowledge” as an abstract thing for her to hoard and use for her own ends is more important than lavellan bringing that knowledge back to the people who are in desperate need of it
lavellan having to stand there and listen to flemeth reveal that she’s had an aspect of mythal inside of her all along and has done absolutely fuck-all to ever help the people, ever - wondering where were you, asha’bellanar, when the shemlen invaded our land and burned out cities to the ground and put us in bondage again, where were you when we were being murdered for sport in the streets of orlesian cities, where were you when we were being raped, killed, bought and sold like chattel, forced to bend the knee?
lavellans hearing fen’harel say that he will murder every living thing on this planet to raise up the elvhen, who have rejected modern elves and have no interest in supporting them, who do not even see them as people
lavellans enduring this with diplomatic grace because they have never been in more danger than when they are surrounded by 20,000 human andrastian zealots with swords

I'm convinced the protagonist in DA4 is gonna be a former slave & that's why they're "a hero no one saw coming"

Hawke and Fenris. The first piece (First Night) is their night together in DA2. I kept it very sketchy and simple. The second piece (Reunion) takes place post-Trespasser, and it took me about 11 hours to complete.
-
Reunion: She was here. She was here. Hawke smelled of death and decay and the alien clutches of the Fade, but she was alive. The dam that held back the torrents of emotion he felt finally broke and he released a guttural cry, clutching her ever closer.
He didn’t want to lose her again.
Never again.

My Dragon Age 4 theorie
The Order of the Gray Wardens was founded around 1200 years ago. It startet with a few soldiers from Anderfels who left their king's army and marched to Tevinter to fight the dark spawn.
We know that DA4 is set in Tevinter and we also know that there is leaked footage of the Gray Wardens who will be somehow involved. And I even think BioWare once said something about maybe making a "how it all began" for the Gray Wardens.
So, what if that's going to be the plot of DA4? Would fit the whole "What happens if you have no power"-themed storyline pretty well I think.
