Love Between Fairy and Devil
Tumblr media
i know this Drama was aired back in 2022, but one thing about me is that i'd rather wait until the drama is completely aired than to wait in agony for the next episode to come and translated (that thing is no joke); i've done watching this show last month and boy was i cursed after this, i saw the cover and title on Netflix and i was like "eeehhh probably just a typical Cdrama, nothing special about it" but then i started to have doubts about my own judgement and decided to watch. oh boy i was wrong.
First, let me give my respect to the screen writers who spent 3 YEARS in writing the scripts, their efforts and hard work paid nicely <3, so does for all the visual effects team, choreograph team, etc for bringing this drama came to life so beautifully.
You can smell the strong chemistry between two leads. great casts!! standing ovation for Wang He Di for his performance!!!
ever since i started to fell in love with Cdrama i have never saw "what great power looks like" you know what i mean? like Ye Hua in TMOPB he was considered the brightest and all that, but the show did not give me any chance to actually witness his power at it's peak, same case with my beloved Hanguan Jun (though i still love him), Wei Ying (almost at a peak if it's not for him to deal with the power biting his butt back).
Tumblr media
DongFang QingCang (dfqc) showed up with style, arrogance, domineering, invincible, confidence, that air that makes everybody even the heavenly emperor tucked their tails between their legs when he arrived at that Waterfall Hall to safe xiao lanhua, he summoned lightning and darken the sky, his voice like thunder; even when he was fighting with ChangHeng and his buddy Rong Hao. that HELLFIRE is hella sexy!! I NEVER BEEN THAT HYPED when i see a villain is about to destroy, the music, the visual effect, choreograph for DFQC is superb!! one swing of that man sends ChangHeng the God of War got beaten up like a dough, he was left unscathed, no drop of blood, stand so proudly in front of his opponents, WORTHY OF HIS TITLE, RESPECT AND FEARED. "the only person who can defeat DongFang QingCang is himself" he can easily kill xiao lanhua, but he didn't, yet he opened to the new experience.
i want to talk a lot about this complex character and his development throughout the journey which thumbs up to the Production House to be able to put his whole development as a character fantastically though i hate why you guys left us like that for the last 6 episodes, you can you that 4 more episodes to give us more!!
Tumblr media
the are soooooo many scenes that i love, so many comedy in this drama, body swap, but the peak of the comedy is in Human Realm, when ChangHeng & DongFang QingCang became sworn brothers lmao, when DongFang QingCang crawled through dog hole (I'm dead) and so much much.
but the one that hit me the most is when DongFang QingCang mourned for xiao LanHua, guys let me tell you, i watch that episode around 10 pm and watch i think one more episode before i decided i can't take it anymore, i was bawling for hours i'm not even kidding, the fact the DongFang QingCang can't accept her death so he would rather stay in his dream if it means to be with her broke me into pieces. no Cdrama has ever done that to me, not even Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (sorry Ye Hua and Bai Qian), i had that emotional breakdown for almost a week, i lost control over my emotional because of this show lol that i'm afraid to go out fearing i would have a breakdown in public. the effect are too strong on my emotions.
this drama is 11 out of 10!
as i said before, the only downside of the drama is how they did the story for the last 2 or 3 episode, too rushed, i wanted to see Goddess Xi Yun's devotion on nurturing DongFang QingCang's crescent moon spirit! i was so frustrated on how they end things, i want Season 2 of this drama mainly because i wanna see how great GLAZED FIRE is and i want to see that stupid heavenly emperor put to justice because honestly he does not deserved the crown!!!! never.
let's discuss in the comment on what you like and dislike and if i miss-mention something :)

The 1st year Lan Zhan starting to raise ah yuan
Tumblr media
He has zero experience on how to raise a kid, and with physical & emotional pain of losing Wei Ying and also being in confinement, he became so frustrated, then have this crazy idea to put little ah yuan in rabbit's colony after he saw 1. And so he did, he put little ah yuan on the ground and let him play amongst the rabbits, giggling in happiness despite everything that had been happening. He looked at his father with a wide smile on his face, Lan Zhan can't help but smile, he's sitting nearby with guqin on his lap, doing what became a routine since wwx's death : inquiry.
He tried and he tried to communicate with weiying's soul but found no trace of he's whereabout, the genuine happy smile of Lan Zhan turned into a pained smile knowing he could not find weiying's soul, in desperation he still talk, hoping weiying would hear it "Weiying ... Where are you? I just want to tell you that i miss you and i don't know how to raise ah yuan so i decided to just put him amongst the rabbits to play with. Can you see his wide smile? Weiying i ..." Lan Zhan can no longer speak as the tears began to flow down his face.
As time passed by, Lan Zhan gradually accepting weiying's passed and focusing on raising ah yuan
Tumblr media
When his confinement was over while searching for weiying's whereabout (bcoz he still has some doubts) when he returned to cloud recess he went straight to find his son and spent most of the time with him. Because in ah yuan he found weiying's part that lives within the kid 😭, a bittersweet reminder of his love one.

I cried .... I literally cried reading this, thank you so much for your effort pouring all the thoughts in this short scene ... Its so beautiful. I love my two jades of Lan 💙💙
Hello! What are your thoughts on lxc accepting alcohol from wwx and jin zixun?
oh those scenes! I loved both scenes, but especially when Wei Wuxian snatches away Lan Wangji’s cup and downs it?
Tumblr media
m e g a 《琅琊榜》/ Nirvana in Fire vibes, but like, in reverse. presented without context because if y’know... you know...
okay sorry, you were asking about Lan Xichen. Honestly, I feel like these moments are excellent character moments for Lan Xichen, especially in contrast with Lan Wangji. Almost across the board, our interactions with the Lan Sect in CQL give us this stereotype of a sect that is aloof, cultured, emotionally repressed, holier-than-thou, rule-following rule-abiding rule-conforming to a fault. And through these small moments, Lan Xichen shows us that the sons and daughters of Gusu Lan are more than that -- he can be playful, he can bend the rules, he is capable of compromise.
(I firmly believe that the reason why Lan Jingyi can have as much of a personality as he does is because both Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji carved out the space in Cloud Recesses for him -- Lan Xichen with his indulgence, Lan Wangji for seeing the echoes of another spunky, sassy loudmouth who didn’t know when to shut up)
When Wei Wuxian suggests they drink together, Lan Xichen laughs quietly and looks down and away, clearly shaking his head fondly at the fact that the incorrigible youth who sneaked alcohol into Cloud Recesses still lives on in this post-Sunshot Wei Wuxian. He accepts, and we get this incredibly iconic sequence (but like, iconic in a subtle way, y’know, like Lan Xichen himself):
Tumblr media
you see that face? that is the face of a man who is about to prank his future brother-in-law and knows it
They toast each other, down the wine, and before Wei Wuxian has even set his cup down on the table, Lan Xichen is already reaching for the jar and pouring himself a second cup. Wei Wuxian is completely floored by this, torn equally between surprise and joyful delight that Lan Xichen, Zewu-jun, First Jade of Lan and Lan Wangji’s big bro, can be such a rebel
Tumblr media
you’re right, Lan Xichen; this little stunt is worth it just to see the LOOK on Wei Wuxian’s FACE
But Lan Xichen is still a son of Gusu Lan, and immediately comes clean with the reveal -- that he can use his golden core to burn away the effects of the alcohol, so it doesn’t count
(side note: doesn’t count as drinking, or doesn’t count as breaking the rules? because I’m pretty sure that the rule forbidding alcohol is one focused on keeping alcohol out of Cloud Recesses, and not one forbidding the action of drinking, if you catch my drift. Either way, Wei Wuxian is impressed by Lan Xichen’s careful finagling of the rules)
But what this does establish is that the Lan brothers can drink alcohol without 1) breaking (a certain interpretation of) the Gusu Lan precepts, or 2) becoming immediately drop-dead drunk, which is what makes the drink Jin Zixun offers that much weightier in significance:
Tumblr media
side note: I find it hilarious that the reason Jin Guangyao offers to deflect the drink is “he has to fly his sword home,” like some ancient ahistorical fantasy China version of drunk driving
When Jin Zixun very rudely offers the Twin Jades a drink and frames it in the context of “we’re all family here, don’t try to refuse me like an outsider,” this action very much situates this in a context of respect and political alliance. Jin Zixun forces a level of political symbolism on the exchange, essentially demanding are you with the Lanling Jin Sect, or against it?
Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji trade half a conversation in a glance in this moment, but crucially, it’s only half of one, because Lan Xichen breaks eye contact and rises (a decision that I can’t help but is partially spurred by his concern for Jin Guangyao, who’s running interference for him/risking his own influence in the Jin court to defend Lan Xichen. Just watch this scene and track Jin Guangshan’s cooly assessing gaze in the chaos. Jin Guangyao realizes this, too; after Lan Xichen takes the drink, Jin Guangyao looks absolutely devastated that his sworn brother had to breach his principles on Jin Guangyao’s watch).
Lan Xichen drinks -- a compromise. A quick drink -- he’ll burn it away immediately with his golden core, it won’t have any lasting effects. A small compromise of his values for the sake of social harmony -- this is worth it, right?
Tumblr media
(this prefigures the conflict that unfolds in the Jin court not much later -- a compromise, not standing up for the Wen refugees or for Wei Wuxian, for the sake of social harmony. This is worth it, right?)
Lan Wangji, cut off in the middle of his silent conversation with his brother, quietly judges Lan Xichen.
Tumblr media
I remember seeing another fascinating post about what might have happened if Lan Xichen had refused the drink, if the Twin Jades of Lan had offered a united front against Jin Zixun, because by folding, Lan Xichen then passes the pressure onto his younger brother, but you know me, chronically unable to find posts.
I wrote about 问心无愧 wenxinwukui yesterday -- this is, to me, the biggest difference between the Twin Jades. Lan Wangji is driven by this central tenet, the ability to ask his heart and know he has no regrets. Would he regret this drink? Absolutely -- it would be a display of submission to this loud-mouthed, arrogant lordling of Lanling Jin, and Lan Wangji has no interest in that. Lan Wangji doesn’t care what the consequences are -- he will not compromise his values.
Lan Xichen, in contrast, will compromise and sacrifice whenever he feels it necessary (unfortunately, he feels it’s necessary pretty often, and I can’t help but think that part of this is because he’s the first son, the sect leader, the one bound by responsibility and position in a way Lan Wangji isn’t).
Tumblr media
I just wanted an excuse to share this screenshot of Lan Xichen, because look at that expression -- textbook-perfect dead eyes smile lips. Of course, I’ll drink with you, says the smile. You are dead to me, say his eyes.
Bonus Nie Mingjue! Throughout this exchange; he hesitates to intervene on Lan Xichen’s behalf, but to me this makes a lot of sense because they’re supposed to be equals in station; it wouldn’t do for Qinghe Nie to intervene. Gusu Lan can fight its own battles. And so Nie Mingjue decides against defending Lan Xichen, because 1) he trusts Lan Xichen to take care of himself, 2) he doesn’t want to make this even more of a kerfuffle than it already is, and 3) he doesn’t want to make Lan Xichen (and by extension, the Gusu Lan Sect) look weak in front of the Jin Sect.
Tumblr media
What is fascinating here is that this particular screenshot is taken from when Jin Zixun pressures Lan Wangji to drink -- Nie Mingjue almost intervenes, because hey, a younger brother of his sworn brother is also his baby brother, and he could defend Lan Wangji without making the same political statements that he’d make in defending Lan Xichen. Here, he seems to be looking at Lan Xichen -- should I intervene for Wangji, or you? he asks. I could. I would. Just give me the sign.
At which point Wei Wuxian swoops in, takes the drink, and downs it. In doing so, Wei Wuxian takes the weighty political significance of the moment, the subtle power struggle between Lanling Jin and Gusu Lan, and smashes it to pieces. So this demonstration of alliance with Lanling Jin? his actions say. Sure, I’ll demonstrate my respect for you -- in the rudest and most subversive manner possible. He crashes sideways into Jin Zixun’s power play, grinds the pieces into powder, tips an empty cup over in the air and dares Jin Zixun challenge him.
Tumblr media
I’m so intrigued by Lan Xichen’s line here; Lan Wangji is speechless at Wei Wuxian’s extremely sexy act, but Lan Xichen speaks up. What would he have said, if Jin Guangyao hadn’t swooped in to try and diffuse the situation? Lan Xichen looks nothing but concerned here, and I’m dying to know what about. How much of his worries about Wei Wuxian’s health has Lan Wangji shared with his brother? Is Lan Xichen also invested in Wei Wuxian’s increasingly fraying emotional control? Is Lan Xichen attempting to extricate Wei Wuxian from the moment, before Wei Wuxian drags Yunmeng Jiang into this mess?
Jin Guangyao tries to salvage the moment by showing Wei Wuxian to his seat, re-settling the combatants in this power struggle safely on opposite sides of the room, but Wei Wuxian will have none of it. The ensuing confrontation unfolds directly in front of the Gusu Lan table. Not in front of the Yunmeng Jiang table. The Gusu Lan table. The sect that Jin Guangshan considers the greatest threat to its complete hegemony.
After Wei Wuxian leaves, Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen speak, briefly. This Wei-gongzi is much too impulsive, Jin Guangyao says. Agree with me, he hints, and Jin Guangshan will see you as an ally against the greater threat of Wei Wuxian.
Lan Wangji will have none of that. He emerges from behind Lan Xichen, moving forward to more directly confront Jin Guangyao.
Tumblr media
What he said, Lan Wangji says. Was it not correct?
Jin Guangyao deflects with slippery words, and Lan Xichen does what he does best -- he compromises.
Tumblr media
He doesn’t look at Jin Guangyao or Lan Wangji, merely says the Wei-gongzi of today truly has greatly changed in temperament. He mollifies Jin Guangyao -- in a way, agreeing with Jin Guangyao’s assessment of Wei Wuxian as too impulsive, too rash. Simultaneously, he reminds Lan Wangji -- Wei Wuxian is not himself. Crucially, Lan Xichen uses the word 心性 xinxing / temperament, which you may recall from the confrontation in episode 20; Lan Wangji, in that Yiling Supervisory Office, warns Wei Wuxian 此道损身,更损心性 / this path damages the body, and damages the temperament even more.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji picks up on the hint immediately; he bows to Lan Xichen, who says go, do all you can within your power. At that moment, no one knows what Lan Xichen is talking about, what mission or responsibility he’s given his younger brother, but Lan Wangji knows -- the Twin Jades of Lan are back on the same wavelength.
Go to him, Lan Xichen says, with his permission, with his blessing. Save him. Before it’s too late.

Lan Zhan mentioned that his bae has a terrible memory ... But here... After 16 years of being dead the first thing Wei Ying said when he saw Wangji for the first time is "he still wear those mourning clothing" and after he learned that Sizhui is Ah Yuan he said "remember you like to hug Hanguan Jun's leg when you were a kid?", Lan Zhan's expression is so sweet ... ❤💙
Turns out his memory isn't bad at all eh Hanguan Jun?! 😏😏😏😏

Wen Zhuliu seeing Wei Ying spit out blood and thrown a few feet away after he delivered a punch to WWX's chest: 🤔🤔🤔 the hell?! I didn't punch you hard enough did I? Hhhmmm the hell happened here? (Looking at his hand) is it my cultivation that slightly enhanced after i defeated Yunmeng folks or what?.
And he was in his own thought through all this scene thinking the possibility 😅🤣 dumb Zhuliu.

When Wangji was confused about Wei Ying's changing behaviour he went to his brother for advice, i admit, Xichen gave pretty good advice "we cannot judge someone's action with black or white, there are more than that. The only way we know is through their heart"
And that's how Lan Zhan knows that Wei Ying is not completely lost ... That he is still who he was but with a scary power.
still, Wei Ying is still Wei Ying inside. But why when the time Xichen has to know and learn who the heck Meng Yao really is, he cannot use his own advice he gave to Wangji??? And continue on his denial-self? 🤦‍♀️
He said to Wei Ying, after Lan Zhan got beaten up and was in confinement he tried to persuade him, but since Wangji refers Wei Ying as his soulmate, Wangji naturally should believe him. Which is ok, or maybe that's Wangji's shortcut answer to stop his brother to say whatever he was going to say, he won't believe in Wangji even though he tell Xichen the truth so why bother?!, I know Wangji is a "Just" person, he will beat Wei Ying's ass if he really is EVIL, but no. Lan Zhan discovered some truth behind Wei Ying's action, the truth than everybody ignored and he can't defend Wei Ying, that's why!.
And now when being faced with who JGY really is he was like "Nope! Nope! You guys just don't know him! I know him better than you do!" I mean, as mighty as Zewu Jun ... Being tricked by a kid ... He should've known better.
**the person who gives a damn good advice but can't use it on his own problem**

Wen Ning ...... 😩😩😩😩
And Wen Ning's super-sensitive ears caught his adopted brother's call and without hesitation, he ran to Wei Ying with his supersonic speed 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh I love this duo so much. Even on the spinoff -The Living Dead- Wen Ning still is a lovely-down to earth character and better!
But in terms of "Hilarious" nothing can beat this one 😁😁😁😁😁
Wen Ning !!!!!!!! 😩 ....... Come let's go and see some beauties strolling at the market 🤣🤣🤣🤣
p.s. did you see Wen Qing's reaction the moment her brother stands on front of Wei Ying 🤣 she was like "you two are too cute you know that??"

Ok here, at this very moment where i finally give credit to my Dramatic Queen Bitch 👑💜
Yes, I hate him for always against Wei Ying out of everything, that all his concern is only about the name of "Yunmeng Juang Sect" (guys, before you judge, yes I understand completely of his position & situation). But despite his bad mouth, sharp tongue, whichever you'd like to choose for him, despite his hatred towards Wei Ying, Jiang Cheng touch me right in the 💜 the moment he threw Chenqing to Wei Ying.
Of all these years ... He kept and take very good care of the flute, kept it squeaky clean the most important is HE BRINGS CHENGQING EVERY-FREAKIN'-WHERE WITH HIM!!!! Look at that smile ... The smile that says "it's good to have you back bro".
The world has not been good to Jiang Cheng, i get that and it got under his skin for a while, but still the love he has for his brother Wei Ying got the better of him and i love him for that.
Honestly, between siblings, there has to be 1 that does not go well with the other but we still love them even though we are like tom & jerry all the time right? That's what I like to picture the brotherly love between Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng 💜❤
