PureGaaLee Presents: WIP Your Heart Out

The end of the year is fast approaching, and with it PureGaaLee is getting ready for a new event to kick off 2023! After all, what better way to start the new year than with an event to help you accomplish one of your resolutions?

WIP Your Heart Out is designed to help you get those languishing stories finished! Did you make a resolution in 2022 to finish that fic, but didn't? Are you resolving to finish that fic in 2023? Do you have multiple WIPs hanging over your head? Well, this event is for you!

The event will be a long-running, formal event with sign-ups and regular check-ins, and it is for both writers and artists!

Writers will sign-up at the start of the year with any number of WIPs they want to get done, and artists will sign-up two months later by picking one or more fics to create art for! This event relies heavily on the relationship between fan writers and fan artists, and how we all inspire one another! And hopefully, this event can inspire you to finish your project!

This is not a prompt based event, so there's no need to worry about filling prompts or finding inspiration for a new idea. Just dust off those WIPs and get crackin'!

The event will be open to writers, artists, and artist pinch-hitters! So be on the lookout for announcements!

Creation Period

Check-Ins

Check-in #1 (Authors Only): March 30th, 2023 Check-in #2 (Authors Only): May 15th, 2023 Check-in #3 (Authors & Artists): June 15th, 2023 Check-in #4 (Authors & Artists): July 15th, 2023 Extension Check-in: August 15th, 2023

Extension Period

Creation Extensions: August 1st, 2023 - 1st September, 2023 Posting Extensions: 1st September, 2023 - 30th September, 2023

*Artists should be finished with their pieces early enough to allow for authors to see the work and be able to insert the work into their fic on AO3.

Additionally, artists who sign-up to be pinch-hitters will follow the artist creation period, but extensions will be granted to all pinch-hitters and the author they're paired with automatically.

Any author/artist who needs an extension will be able to request one as well. However, extensions will only go up to September 30th in order to allow for PGL's HorrorFest 2023.

Hello! And welcome to what will be the ninth year of Gaara Week! A Gaara focused weekly challenge leading up to his birthday! This weekly challenge will start on the 12th of January and run until Gaara’s Birthday on the 19th of January.

Feel free to draw, write, make, cosplay, sing, dance, take screenshots, make gifs, whatever you want! As long as it has something to do with each separate day’s theme, and you create it yourself.

Halloween may not be just around the corner, but the horrors and haunts are still eager to begin at @puregaalee with another event!

This has been an event I’ve long wanted to host, and 2022 is finally the year for it! But before the event’s official announcement, there needs to be an interest check!

A little information before you follow the link:

This event is intended to be a longer running holiday event to encourage larger scale contributions (though these are not mandatory), and so the event will start sometime in mid-August (or sooner if people prefer). There is no maximum number of pieces anyone can create or how many prompts one can use for one piece.

For this particular event, the prompts will be presented as a mix & match. Think of a bowl of random candies left out for trick o’ treaters, where you can grab a handful of anything and everything–and this time you can be as greedy as you want, because the bowl won’t run out! Prompts range from words, quotes, and images, and can be used in a variety of ways to create whatever fan content you wish. The prompts are, strictly speaking, horror prompts for a more creepy vibe to this event.

While this is a horror specific event, there is no age restriction on participation, however, as always minors will not be allowed to create NSFW content. Additionally, because this is a horror event, I will create a master list of tags to use for possible triggers, as well as resources on the common pitfalls of horror such as racism and ableism.

That all being said, horror is a rich genre, so I hope people will have lots of fun with this event. 

More information will be posted towards the end of July based on the interest check!

Angst fics can help people come to terms with their own grief, begin healing, or give people that good cry that they need.

Smut fics can help people affirm and accept their sexuality. It can help them explore their sexuality in a safe way. They can also just be fun, and having fun is a drastically undervalued way to improve your mental health.

Dark fics can help people face their fears or process their trauma. It can make them feel safer and more secure. It can help them find their courage.

Fluff fics can give people rest and respite and comfort. It can give them hope that soft places exist and that maybe there is one out there for them. It can bring up their mood, which, if they have depression, can be a life saver.

And every fic people write makes someone feel less alone.

Point being, just because a particular thing doesn’t serve you, doesn’t mean it lacks value.

This is not to say that we have to consume all fic uncritically. Of course not. It is just to say that entire “genres” aren’t trash or lacking value just because they don’t serve you.
