Welcome to ENMITY’S FIRST HONESTY HOUR!
You may reblog this until WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2017 at 11:59 PM, PST. After this time, you will also no longer be allowed to send questions to others. However, you are welcome to answer questions whenever you can! Any answers you submit that are of reasonable length (75+ words) WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR FRIDAY’S ACTIVITY CHECK.
For those of you who have never done an honesty hour before, this game simply means that you reblog this post from the main onto your blog; after this, muns will go ahead and send you questions which your muse must answer honestly! This does not necessarily mean that your muse is revealing their deepest, darkest secrets to other muses; it simply forces them to face a part of themselves they may not like.
Happy writing! -H

Hello! Admin H speaking. Apologies for how slow the main has been getting things updated; this was a hectic weekend for the admins.
Because of this, we haven’t been able to conduct an activity check so far. We believe it’s been long enough for everyone to get settled and plotting, so our first activity check will be FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8 at 6:00 PM PST. Because we will be covering the activity for the last two weeks, we will be looking for TWO in-character posts to count you as active. For this activity check, we will not be sending in main blog prompts to keep you active.
Thank you for your patience! -H

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT YAN SEUNGYEON …
A KISAENG of the palace, they are a TWENTY-FOUR YEAR OLD NEUTRALIST and the daughter of Head Kisaeng, Yan Muhee. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like F(X)'s JUNG SOOJUNG. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
BIOGRAPHY:
seungyeon was born on a humid summer night in the province of hwangdo, goryeo. the first daughter of an unknown general and a kisaeng mother, seungyeon grew up knowing that she had simply been the result of a one night stand. raised as a proper kisaeng, seungyeon was doted upon by her trainer and realized she was only a pretty face between many. knowing well that she would never be able to surpass any of the other kisaengs in training. she simply did her best to make her mother proud, a legendary kisaeng who was the former general’s personal kisaeng.
a young lady whose composure and calm nature seems to appear as cold blooded and with no feelings unlike her mother. one has to wonder how much of her calm personality is a façade and how much of it is simply a case of letting her walls down around people. it’s more due to the fact that she feels guilty for ending her mother’s career and had to face her path by becoming a kisaeng to meet ends each month. intelligent with a very forward thinking outlook, she tends to speak before she thinks leading to her blurting out some inappropriate things at inopportunate moments. she is somewhat headstrong and impulsive but fortunately often has the support network that means she doesn’t pay for her mistakes. this only means that one day she will find someone who wishes to cut out her tongue, however, and she’s not quite aware of that.
seungyeon has always had a personality big enough to fill a room. she commands the attention of any room that she’s in and has the skill set to keep a hold of that attention. she often surprises people with her maturity levels but there is still no avoiding that she’s still young with a lot to learn. at the end of the day, she has a confidence that cannot be broken. she’s more than comfortable with her physical appearance and her body, and owns the beauty she inherited from her mother. some would say she’s rude or too vague, disrespectful and even violent. she is all that, but not in the exact way one would put it down in words. she’s simply not a people’s person, she’s not antisocial but she’s not fond of interacting with people she doesn’t have a specific need to. she can be quite selfish if you’d look on things from that perspective– she honestly does not care. growing up the way she did, sometimes she can’t really tell right from wrong and morality is a messed up concept in her mind.
she has strong opinions on practically every matter out there and won’t hesitate in voicing them, no matter how crude or heavy they might sound or even the consequences she will face later on by the royal family. she’s bold to the point she might seem completely fearless. she’s snarky and sassy without any kind of measure. she’s either too quiet or too loud, there’s no in between. generally, she just flows with the wind and you wouldn’t even notice her– but if you’d ever interacted with her, you’d probably never forget her, she can make quite the impression. flirty in the most direct of ways, brutally honest, and completely unattached.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT YOON JAEHA …
A DOCTOR of the palace, they are a TWENTY-SIX YEAR OLD LOYALIST. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like JI CHANG-WOOK. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
Yoon Jae-Ha was born the illegitimate child of a wealthy noble and his mistress. His parents knew each other from childhood days, though when his father was forced into an arranged marriage, their love became a forbidden one. Eventually heartbroken over the fact that she wasn’t allowed to embrace her love openly, Jae-Ha’s mother broke off their secret relationship and disappeared, without a trace, to start a new life. For unbeknownst to anyone except her, she had become pregnant.
Consequently, Jae-Ha grew up without a father, who he believed to have died in a terrible accident. He spent his childhood outside of the city, in a small village barely within the kingdom’s borders. Life there was poor but never boring. They lived in houses built closely together, creating a tight-knit network. He was an incredibly lively boy, intelligent and bright, always up on his feet to explore the world outside his village much to his mother’s disapproval. The years went by like this, happy years, until there came a day when tragedy finally arrived in Jae-Ha’s life and dragged him into a pit of sickening misery. His mother’s health worsened due to an unknown illness. Weeks went by during which he was not able to do anything but watch her wither away. He began to transition from a spunky boy into a brooding man, the whole experience changing him completely.
Fortunately, a doctor from the city happened to visit the village at some point and aided in the safe recovery of Jae-Has mother. He showed them a way to create efficient medicine and showcased ways to ease physical pains with nothing but herbs. Fascinated by the doctor, Jae-Ha felt inspired to become a doctor himself. As chance would have it, the doctor had neither wife nor children of his own and thus agreed to take Jae-Ha as a student. Like this, his days in the village came to an end. Upon his departure, his mother gave him a token which he was supposed to carry with him at all times.
His days within the city were nothing but a series of hardships at first. Yet with the doctor’s guidance, who later became a kind of beloved uncle to him, Jae-Ha developed into a genius. He was content with his place among the common folk and also kept in touch with his mother through several letter exchanges.
Nowadays, he is rather known among the citizens and has taken over his mentor’s business. He has established a content life for himself— one which might fall apart once he finds out the true meaning behind the token that his mother had gifted him.
PERSONALITY:
When Jae-Ha is treating patients, his disposition is one of complete friendliness. He is calm and gentle in the way he moves and speaks, charismatic even. However, once his duties are done, he returns to being brooding and silent. He’s generally a man of few words and it is very rare for him to engage in social gatherings or be seen running around town with a woman at his side. He keeps to himself and others at a distance. He’s dealt with a bad hand of cards while growing up, especially during a time when he was only beginning to understand how the world worked. Thus trust is hard for him to give to others, as he believes that everyone is a snake in disguise. Decisions are taken into careful consideration and he does his best to think before acting. He is a sacrificial man, one who is always willing to help those in need out. He is strong, both mentally and physically, but there are moments when he is moody and refuses to let anyone see his vulnerable side.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT KITAGAWA IZUMI …
A NOBLE of JAPAN, they are a TWENTY YEAR OLD NEUTRALIST and the niece of KITAGAWA NATSUME (NIECE #NT). In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like TWICE's MINATOZAKI SANA. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
If there was anything Izumi despised, it was feeling like a prisoner. As a young girl, only three years old, she didn’t understand where her parents were and why she couldn’t see them. She didn’t understand why she had to stay with her uncle, even though he cared for her like a parent, she wanted to go home. She could see the fear in her brothers eyes, stirring up a fear within herself that she couldn’t let go of. She was a prisoner of her own ignorance and fright.
At age 7, there was hardly any trace of the scared little girl she was only a handful of years before. She was fiery–spoke her mind whenever she saw fit. Injustice, anger and excitement all alike, she had to make her opinion known on any occasion. Not yet aware that sometimes thoughts are better left unsaid, she wasn’t always liked by everyone. Not that it mattered to her, because how could someone’s honesty lead to someone else not liking her? Honesty is a favorable trait, something a lot of people lacked. She felt incredibly grown up, being able to voice her opinion unapologetically. Except, the more she did so, the more she realized the world didn’t work that way. The truth wasn’t always favored. The truth could get you in trouble. The truth could even get you killed. She had to learn to choose her words more carefully, depending on her audience. She was a prisoner of formalities, etiquette and social status.
When she was 14, she knew she wouldn’t see her parents again in this life, and she had made peace with it. She had made peace with the fact that she didn’t remember the sound of her father’s voice, or the warmth of her mother’s smile. She could imagine them, but whether those were fabrications or actual memories, she didn’t know. By that time, she had come to see her uncle as the father figure in her life, as that’s exactly what he had acted upon ever since she and her brother had come under his care. She counted herself lucky. Despite being an orphan, she didn’t feel like one. As she got older, however, the accounts on which nostalgia got the better of her, ascended in frequency. Did her mother like being around flowers as much as she did? Or had she inherited her love for flora from her father? That was one of many questions that lingered on Izumi’s mind, on one of many sleepless nights. She was a prisoner of her own, immutable past.
She was almost 20 when her uncle brought her and her brother with him to Goryeo, and she couldn’t have been more excited. Exploring the world, traveling overseas to visit royal family of a blossoming country, not many people could say they got the opportunity to do that. She was curious, incredibly curious about the fashion, music, food and scenery. She was excited to show off the exquisite Japanese clothing, proudly wearing her delicate and meticulously sewn furisode, as she took it upon herself to take in as much of the foreign culture as she could. That was until king Deokjong was poisoned, and their status as warmly welcomed guests unspokenly changed to possible suspects of the king’s murder, just like everyone else in the palace. Even though she was never locked up, nor was she questioned about it, she could sense the tension in the air. There was a lingering whisper in the air, that questioned everyone’s loyalty. Not knowing much about politics, she hid behind her uncle’s statements of neutrality. She knew nothing of the matter and didn’t want to be involved with it. She wanted to make her expectations reality; she wanted to explore and experience. But the underlying tension in the palace was a hard to get rid of impediment. She was, once again, a prisoner.
PERSONALITY:
( + honest ) : Very rarely will you catch Izumi telling a lie. She sees no good in telling lies, not even small white ones. She regards herself as better than that, even if the truth can sometimes hurt a person’s feelings. Lying is a sin, it stains the spirit and inspires wicked acts. Before you know it you have constructed a web of lies impossible to get out of, and cleaning up that mess takes a lot more effort than simply being honest.
( + meticulous ) : Izumi pays extremely close attention to detail. From her appearance to her studies to her surroundings, she likes everything to perfect, organized and neat. Resembling a perfectionist, she won’t settle for anything but the absolute best, though she doesn’t feel as committed to her started task as a perfectionist might. If something loses interest to her, she won’t hesitate to drop it entirely.
( + ambitious ) : Big dreams of visiting many more countries, collecting experiences and priceless memories, settling down somewhere she truly feels like she can blossom like the flowers she so loves. She wants to collect rare plants and flowers from all over the world and keep them in her own personal garden, though a life like that is expensive. She doesn’t know how yet, but she is determined to make it happen.
( - explosive ) : Izumi isn’t a stranger to throwing tantrums, though she never means to actually hurt anyone. She just gets passionate and like a volcano, erupts when rubbed the wrong way. Because these instances are so fleeting for her, she’ll move on from the incident soon after, not realizing how deep an impression a first encounter like that can make on someone. After a lengthy and frenzied scolding (which was in rapidly fired Japanese, which couldn’t have helped) a newly appointed handmaiden when she had stepped on her kimono, on the first night of her arrival in Goryeo, she had acquired a reputation of impossible-to-serve, that still follows her around to this day.
( - naive ) : Though she knows what she wants and knows better than to get herself into certain trouble, Izumi has a knack for having a blind eye when it comes to her weaknesses. She is an adventurous spirit, and won’t always be able to make the smartest or safest choice when tempted. Sneaking out of the palace to visit a commoners’ festival? She wouldn’t think twice about staying put.
( - impatient ) : Even though she wasn’t brought up to be spoiled or entitled, Izumi gets incredibly impatient when things take too long to come her way. When she sets her mind on something, she wants it, and she wants it now. She doesn’t take no for an answer quickly, unless she feels like like the “no” in question is justified which, again, doesn’t happen quickly.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT KIM EUNHA …
A KISAENG of the palace, they are a TWENTY-SIX YEAR OLD NEUTRALIST. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like APINK'S KIM NAMJOO. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
DAMNED. would’ve been the perfect word to describe her. In all her lives she’s never had it easy. While she has the beauty, mind and manner of well bred Queen, the world seemed to have miscalculated who she was born unto, gifting her two hateful parents who seemed to care for all eight of their other kids and not the one who taught them the ropes of parenting. She was a good older sister, to the point that she had helped raised her siblings as her own. She had taught them what she knew about reading and writing, taught them how to walk and talk. Her siblings weren’t her siblings, they were her children.
it seemed as if she got older, she became more of a problem to her parents. Though she’d tried to live quietly, it seemed her parents would burst in yelling at her for what would be a trivial thing for any of her other siblings. Like if her Hanbok hadn’t been tied properly, or if a piece of hair was out of line, they yelled at her as if she gambled away all of their savings. Even if it was something she didn’t do, and was in no way responsible for. She didn’t have the capabilities a man had, and that drove her parents insane. To this day, Eunha has no idea why her parents hated her so much, but once they began to twist and manipulate her siblings into thinking she was the devil, the girl who had so much love to give, ended up becoming someone who no longer knew what love was.
She was kicked out at thirteen, and having no where else to go, she went to the club, to ask for work. it was there that a tall man approached her, telling her that he was indeed need of work and that she should come with him. What she was in for, was something that she wasn’t expecting. Eumak (음악), is an organization of assassins that front as a hub for various artists and talents. At thirteen, she was recruited and began training for combat and murder. They fronted the young girl as Kisaeng, however, she was supposed to be just a display, not something that was actually acquirable. She could preform and keep company, but their Hojang, who was also an assassin, was ti prevent her on engaging in any sexual activity. (Which was usually on the front of schedule conflicts.) However, a patron had come by unannounced and demanded on her company and that was the first time Eunha had experienced the first tingles of lust. She was only sixteen.
PERSONALITY:
She walks as though she’s royalty with her head held high, status doesn’t matter too much to her. She knows about the palace politics and isn’t afraid to get herself involved. There’s a high chance she’s aiming to be a concubine in order to one day be Queen Mother. Though she isn’t really pressed into completing it either. She’s loud and obnoxious, very daring. Her personality can be that of a Kisaeng when she is working, but outside some would think she has the speech and soul of a solider. She’s fearless, to the point she can be considered reckless. On the contrary, she can be very protective and loving to the point where she would do drastic things for those she is close to. She has an addictive personality and tends to have a very tough time stopping things that make her happy (read: sex.) She can be very alluring and seductive, and isn’t afraid to point out her greatest assets when it comes to charming–anyone.
FUN!! FACTS!! She’s fallen in love with two of her patrons, the first being a man who promised to become her Gibu, relieve her of her Kisaeng duties and marry her. However, he ended up having a secret family and his wife angrily threatened Eunha. The second was a young Noble boy who played with her emotions, told her he loved her and would marry her and yet wouldn’t see her for weeks at a time, only for her to spot him courting another girl and then coming back to her as if nothing ever happened. The final time they say each other, she had found out she was pregnant and he gave her a herbal tea that aborted her child. She didn’t know what it was at the time, and it’s something that haunts her to this day. She piles rocks in prayer for her unborn child twice a week. She hopes that when they meet again her child will forgive her for making such a reckless decision. She’s a pretty popular Kisaeng, so she knows a lot of the 411 when it comes to palace politics. If she doesn’t like you, she’s not gonna tell you the information you want to hear. A lot of it will involve her dancing around the subject, or just spitting out inaccurate information. She’s really good at Sunjang Baduk? (Go) and likes to play it when she isn’t trying to drink or sex away her problems. She’s entertained for a few kings here and there.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT GOE DANSAE …
A BODYGUARD of the palace, they are a THIRTY-TWO LOYALIST and serves THE KING. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like LEE JOON GI. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
goe dansae, is a noble, before he is a monster.
a noble of true rights and moral rulings. a noble that looks at people with a certain fondness and genuine kindness that would not shock anyone, as it would now. there’s no venom in his eyes, or a harshness to be seen. just a caring gaze, and a manner that spoke of someone that just wanted to help the suffering. and he did, as a young boy taking care of those less fortunate than himself, and giving them what they needede to survive in a word like this.
ryu chae-won, was one of those unfortunate souls.
after all, the noble dansae came from a family employing servants of all backgrounds and ages to look after their needs. as a family with six children, dansae himself being the fourth born, they needed many to look after the home and the kids. be that the older ones for tutoring purposes, or those that were hired to the train the five males to fight. the youngest being the only daughter, not needing that skill. but there were the younger servants too. the ones that were brought in from harsh and lonely backgrounds, and that was where chae-won, sweetheart of a girl and selfless almost completely, came in.
she was still a child when she appeared to start working for the goe family, and dansae himself wasn’t much older. maybe that’s why he was drawn to her, why he couldn’t let her go. because he chased after her on nights when her duties were done, and down by the sea they spent their times together.
it was a hidden friendship. as much as goe dansae was known as a sympathiser to those in her situations, he knew that his parents, his family, wouldn’t approve of such a friendship like this.
of a relationship.
they get together when he’s thirteen. both still children, but it doesn’t defeat the fact he knows that he cares deeply for the servant girl. and they hide their relationship with secret looks and words. or littler interactions, grazes of hands. meeting on the beach after hours, where they can spend their time quietly and peacefully together - all the while the kind noble is training to join the military efforts. and he does, at sixteen.
known not only for his conscious efforts to help the powerless, he’s also known for his skill in combat. for the way he can handle a blade, like an extension of his arm. or how he can control a bow, like the wind bends to his command. but even as dansae is headed to help with looking after the borders and the front lines, nothing changes of the fact that he still wants to help those in need.
but it’s at seventeen upon returning home, that goe dansae, noble and sympathiser, is no more.after all, a monster will never be born, bur created. and to make a monster is to rip away what he loves most, only his parents were only just about to face that.
he’ll never be sure if it was planned for him to see or not. if he was supposed to be there at that time, but all dansae is aware of is that as he rides along the beach on horseback to meet her upon his arrival home– he comes across a different sight instead. the sight of a man in a black hood that holds his chae-won down. down into the water.
dansae see’s no struggle left in her, but the only thing he knows of next is that her body is lifelessly floating out as his hand reaches for his blade and strikes the hooded man with and effortless slice. he hears the splutters of blood being coughed up then as he drives the blade home into the man that he doesn’t know.
and he watches as her body leaves him in the waves of the sea.
his cries last no longer than a few minutes, before his attention is turned on the fallen lifeless man on the sand. and pulling apart at the mans robes, he finds the letter. a contract of sorts, all of course signed and sealed by his mother and her perfect writing.
a contract to kill.
and he’ll find out then that it was his oldest brother that had found out about them long before he’d left for the military. that he’d seen them together, and no sooner told their parents of their apparently fowl and horrific acts. because a noble of their class should never be seen like this with a girl of her class.
but it’s in those small moments that the kind and courteous, caring, noble dies. he is replaced with a man only feeling the rage of his emotions, the snap of something deep within him that erases all of who he was and replaces him with who he is now as with the blade still in hand, he heads into his own home. his parents, ready and smiling to welcome their son home stare at him with that godawful happy expression. until they see the blood, and the sword. and they don’t have enough time to make a move before that same blade strikes them both down too. and he wonders in they know, that they are their own undoing.
he wonders if they realise that they are the ones that made him this way, because had he not been trained for the military, he would’ve not have had the courage to take their lives that day.or his siblings as he runs his blade over their necks too. his oldest brother the only one awake, impaled on the metal, whilst his other two oldest brothers, and his youngest sister meet their ends in their sleep, never to know what had hit them. but his twin. his twin of only a few minutes younger than himself, is the only one that makes it out as dansae lets him run. tells him to even.. to get out.dansae doesn’t waste much time anymore then though as he slowly sets the building ablaze. drops his sword in the fire too, letting their souls stay trapped within it as he watches the place he grew up in slowly smolder away into nothing but rubble and ash. their bodies burned within it as people slowly emerge from their homes to watch the blazes of glory that dansae has set alight, only to never know if it was really him or not to have done that.
as the time goes on, what truly happened that night will remain a mystery to most, only to be understood that the only surviving son of the family walked away from the home a changed boy. no longer the kind, soothing and caring gentleman. but the cold, ruthless and apathetic monster than he will be known for. and they’ll think it was the military that changed him, as well as coming home to the deaths of his family. they’ll think that it was that in which made him a monster, but the truth will remain clouded over for only he to know.
but dansae will make his way back to the front lines than, but as a merciless killer instead, sparing no one.. as well as learning the art now of cloak and dagger. stealth and how to dispose of the bodies of those that bother him without anyone even realising they’d been murdered for their.. bother. it’s not often he has to evoke that side of himself, but his killer instincts are sharp now–and maybe that’s why after over eleven years of serving the royals as a military man, his efforts becoming noticed as well as his reputation for ruthlessness and high skill, that he gets called on privately to become a royal guard instead.
the royal protector of the king.and he accepts, under the offer of being told to do whatever it takes to protect him, and his family, no matter the cost of life or death. after the first and second king’s death anyway, fear runs wild. and he accepts, knowing he is feared enough to look after the rightful ruler.he will protect him then, guard them for four years and counting. get close to him to know who he is dealing with, and he’ll be seen now as an extension of the king family instead. not a guard dog anyway, but a protector, and despite being cold and heartless as he seems, the order of looking after someone that deserves it is still something that he can agree with. it’s why he sticks around, does what he’s told anyway. understanding his efforts will be rewarded all the same.a monster may be created, but with the right supersaturation and offers, tamed all the same.
PERSONALITY:
ruthless; having or showing no pity or compassion for others, cruel.
merciless; having or showing no mercy.two of the possibly most accurate ways to describe goe dansae really, mostly for the fact that ever since that fateful night, it seemed like there wasn’t a caring or kind bone in the male’s body. instead, it was replaced with a fearless and cold soul that didn’t believe in second chances or sparing the lives of anyone. regardless of them being innocent or guilty. all he cares about is himself really, and the thoughts and feelings of anyone but that, are said to be mostly extinct from his mind.
apathetic; having or showing little to no emotion.apathy is a skill that he came to master quickly after the first slice of his blade across the hooded man’s chest, and that continued onto his families untimely deaths. since then, the ability to cloud his emotions and suppress them to the point of being unfeeling and thinking of them, has been a simple task. and maybe that’s the reason he no longer deals in morals either, because why should he when he can do what he believes needs to be done, regardless of who it hurts in the process. or who he ends.
protective; intended to protect something or someone.just because he’s so unfeeling and immoral, doesn’t mean that dansae doesn’t feel his protective instincts too. as a boy he had them, at the time mostly over hsi family and the love he lost, but now as a royal bodyguard to the king, he feels it all the same. he’d risk his life to protect the ruler, as well as anyone else’s lives. and even then, there are still those few that have worn a way under his skin all the same, and maybe he’d protect them all the same too.
sentimental; of or prompted by feelings of tenderness, sadness, or nostalgia.there are only few things that would ever make dansae sentimental. his twin brother being one of them, as well as the lost love he holds being the other. the lost love that leads him down to the sea at the same time every month so that he can sit by it and talk to her. he might not see her, but he knows that she is there somewhere, listening. it might be the only time that a shadow of the caring man he was before even returns. but it floats away as he leaves, just like the flowers he lets the sea carry away for her when he moves away again. only he’ll return the next month, because even after so long, his heart still calls for her in some way.
intimidating; frighten or overawe ( someone ), especially in order to make them do what one wants.if you’ve ever encountered dansae, be that during the day or night, then it’s very known by now that he is not a man to be messed with. the rumours of those that bother him going missing in the night are there for a reason after all, but even the presence and aura that surrounds him is enough to make some of even the most prideful scurry off for fear of what he brings. and this is something dansae now holds control over, because to be intimidating is to do his job correctly after all, as well as fuel rumours that he’s made over years now. because people should be scared of him for a reason, intimidated by him, and he likes to remind them of that fact.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT GUEM TAEMIN …
A NOBLE of the palace, they are an TWENTY-SEVEN OLD TRAITOR. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like EXO'S XIUMIN. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY: TW: Sexual assault of a minor
Describing his childhood was something Taemin struggled with, he had been loved by both his parents, cared for by those around him and never shunned by his peers. But the young boy had never thought of himself as special or important. He was just another noble son, he couldn’t see himself being any different from a person if he had been born a commoner. The only time he had ever felt the slightest hint of being anything more was when his father took him to the palace.
He hadn’t fully understood the reason behind said visits at first, his young brain far too distracted by the beauty and regalness that surrounded him whenever he was there. It was strange for him to think that just because he was blessed with the right blood he was one of the few people allowed to set foot there and that feeling only grew when it was explained to him that there was a possibility of him being married to one of the princesses. But his moment of feeling special would only last for a moment.
Taemin wouldn’t learn the man’s name until three years later but he would remember everything about their encounter. The fear that had set in the second he was grabbed on his way back to his father, the roughness of fingers closing over his mouth and the harsh words whispered in his ears. No one would help, the man was an advisor to the king and he made sure Taemin knew that that the king wouldn’t care. That if Taemin told anyone the king would punish him, that the king was okay with this happening, that the king was this man’s friend and wouldn’t believe a word Taemin said.
The words and actions were there with Taemin as he finally found his father again and gripped onto his sleeve with shaking fingers and complained of a stomach ache so they could leave, they were there as he cried himself to sleep that night and the many months following, they were there as he withdrew himself from his friends, spending more time inside with his ill sister than outside in the sun, they were there as he began to refuse to visit the palace, they were there was he refused to marry any princess or royal that his parents tried to set him up with. They were there when he finally broke down on his knees at eighteen and explained to his mother just why the palace couldn’t be trusted. She would be the only one who would ever know the reasons for why he hated it and Taemin always suspected that she would be the only one who would understand.
It has been fifteen years since his assault and Taemin has grown much by then. He’s either respected by those around him for his manners and intellect or hated by those who have managed to get the blunt end of his temper. Even if the sight of the palace still turns his stomach he’s matured to accept that for as long as his family insists on linking itself to the Royals he won’t be able to escape it. So, he’s put in the effort to at least be minorly respected as a useful noble even if he’s only there waiting for the day he can watch the Wang family fall.
PERSONALITY:
Protective – There are very few people in the world Taemin truly wholeheartedly cares for but the ones he does he’ll protect to his death. The safety and happiness of those around him will always come first and he will go to extreme lengths to ensure it.
Hostile – As a child, it was so easy for Taemin to open up, for people to become his friends within only a couple of hours but it isn’t anywhere near the same anymore. He’s closed off to those he doesn’t know and quick to anger when people push the right buttons with him.
Humble – Taemin has never taken much pride in his family name or the system of nobility and royalty. The citizens who live near his city house often comment on how never talks to them as if they’re lesser though Taemin can’t quite work out why he ever would. He was lucky enough to be born to a rich family and others were not and no matter how many times he listens to other nobles drown on and on about how bloodlines are all that matter he still can’t understand it.
Manipulative – Taemin finds a sick pleasure in making people do the opposite of what they want. It was a skill he slowly started teaching himself as he matured, at first it had just been fun to talk other nobles in circles until they couldn’t remember what they’re original point was. By now though it’s turned more serious and intense.
Eccentric/Unorthodox – Even though Taemin tries to keep his time around fellow nobles as limited as possible it is clear when he’s with them that his ways are different. He doesn’t see life through the same lens as most and doesn’t act the same as most. He spent so much of his life trying to find any forms of happiness to bring him out of the pit he was put in that he no longer cares for the opinions of others as long as he is doing what’s right by him. His way of life is not completely right for the time but it’s a part of himself he is unwilling to let go.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT YUAN YUFEI …
A NOBLEof CHINA, they are a TWENTY-EIGHT YEAR OLD NEUTRALIST and the daughter of Yuan Zhou (DAUGHTER #ZY). In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like TIFFANY TANG. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
the price for her childhood naivety was the loss of her mother; the replacement for her innocence became an overwhelming sense of longing that she carries with her even now.
yufei’s childhood in bianjing, the capital of the northern song, was idyllic. her father had risen to power during the surge of appointments by skill and knowledge instead of simply family power, and his intelligence and tactical mind served him well. a marriage of mutual benefit, changle of the influential jing family married the ambassador during his ascension through the ranks of government. by the time yufei was born, her parents had cultivated a favorable reputation in the eyes of the northern song, civilian, nobility, and royalty alike.
but where there is prosperity, there is sacrifice.
the ambassador was seldom available, so yufei grew increasingly close to her mother and her handmaidens. a common sight to see was yufei, practicing guzheng in the courtyard, while her mother watched on from the nearby pavilion with their handmaidens. their relationship was one filled with time and attention, but it lacked any real warmth.
in the season of potential marriage proposals, when yufei turned the appropriate age of sixteen, she was a popular candidate. but due to her parents’ responsibilities and her own lack of desire, suitors were given no attention until her eighteenth birthday. after about a year of filtering through potentials, in the middle of finalizing a marriage for yufei, jing changle fled the home with another man.
the repercussions damaged the family’s reputation immensely. the ambassador was ridiculed in private for not disciplining his wife properly, and the bulk of yufei’s marriage proposals were withdrawn. yet, no one could dismiss the ambassador’s skill in his position, and yufei’s own agreeable character. yufei lived quietly for a few years in her father’s household, pouring her efforts into the musical arts and passing her time with calligraphy. with one of her parents gone, yufei made it a habit to spend more time with her father when he was home, even if it was simply reading in his office while he worked. they spent many hours like this, and the ambassador started to open up to his only daughter. they conversed in hypotheticals constantly, and yufei found the intricacies of politics fascinating.
to turn the tides into more auspicious waters, ambassador yuan zhou made the decision to send his daughter away. the rumors and chatter that circulated and followed her did not exist outside of the northern song due to being lost in translation. although he hesitated to send his only child so far away after losing his wife, this would be the best route for her. his hope was that yufei would adapt well and flourish in the foreign court, and eventually find herself a suitable husband so that she may bear their families children.
one year turned into two, and then two became three. yufei worries that she may have overstayed her welcome, but with her powerful father she is a useful link to keep around. combined with her unobtrusive personality and love of entertaining with her music, she has acquired a favorable reputation here, as well.
PERSONALITY:
where her mother lacked warmth, she made up in intelligence. she made it a rule to constantly impart wisdom to yufei and make any moment a teaching one. she reminded yufei to be attentive and detailed, traits that not only aided her in life, but also in her hobbies. a sheltered youth, yufei still retains her gentleness because the world has not yet wronged her to make her bitter. but with natural maturation, she has become slightly more cautious, especially given the fact that she is inexperienced in the dangers of court life while also being on foreign land.
she is exceptionally kind towards the servants of the palace, as her own have raised her from birth, and tries her hardest to stay out of the affairs of the royal family. yufei believes that she has no place there, and just skirts the outsides of certain social circles.
having the tendency to prefer the company of women to men out of experience, she realizes that she must be a laughingstock to some degree: twenty-eight, with no husband, and not even any potential prospects on the horizon. but she has no tendency towards the rosy ideals of finding love, as she is a realist and knows that she has passed her prime. yufei also retains an air of longing, for a country that she has not fulfilled her duties to, and for a mother who never cared to look back.
yufei finds herself stuck in this lull of disillusionment while having to maintain a sunny countenance. but this is no one’s fault other than her own, so she treats everyone politely, save for a few witty quips here and there. the few that have endeared themselves to her remain of her closest companions, and for them, she is thankful.

✩ ⋆* ☾ I’VE HEARD MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT KANG HYUNKI …
A POLITICIAN of the palace, they are a THIRTY-THREE YEAR OLD STRATEGIST. In another life, I imagine they would look a lot like JYJ's KIM JAE JOONG. What a shame that such a person faces such adversity …
HISTORY:
Hyunki was born as a sweet natured babe.
His father was Kang Minjun who was a distinguished soldier at the court of the King. Mijun had been a childhood companion and friend to the king as well - their friendship seemed to blossom fruitfully. The man grew in success as much as the King himself. Life went on and soon Hyunki was born. He was a witty child with a kind face and good temperament. Like his father, he was naturally gifted at the art of swordsmanship. He was doted upon heavily by his famously reputed father and beautiful mother - they were his world and he was theirs. Hyunki was a good child who’d smile and laugh easily, he had everything he ever needed. There was a dazzling future before him.
His future rivaled the dazzle that sparked in the eyes of the King. The King had dangerously fallen in love with Minjun’s beautiful wife slowly over time. His desire to seduce her had pushed him into an irrational decision. Hyunki could recall it vividly. He was on the verge of his manhood at the age of fourteen when his father was called to participate in a dangerous war on the northern frontier. Hyunki accompanied his mother and prostrated themselves at the feet of the King. But the stubborn man had made his choice. Since that day, Hyunki could no longer smile. He felt the emptiness creeping within his heart and watched as the edict was scrawled with his fathers name. The King sent Minjun to his death.
Hyunki began to entire a spiral of nightmares - his only light was his faith in his mother’s spirit.
The news of his father’s death sent Hyunki and his mother into crippling sorrow. He remembered the hysterical tears his mother would shed as she shook on the floor in agony. He held his mother in her arms but no amount of soothing could calm the woman down. She loved her husband. The future was dismal but Hyunki had hope that all would be well. But it was only a month later when his own mother followed her husband’s path. She had quietly hung herself in the middle of the night, refusing to sacrifice her body to the King who thought he could have her now that her husband was dead. The boy was broken, a feral scream had left his mouth when he looked at the tablets resting upon the grave site of his parent’s corpses. Hyunki’s hope was lost and his soul was fragmented. He was raw with rage, devastated by the cruel events of fate. The boy was left to fend in the world alone.
Hyunki could no longer see the world in the light.
He occupied the night as if it were his mistress. He was taken in by his aunt but he never forgot the seed of sin that was planted in his heart. He seized the demon within him and slaughtered enemies on the battleground like his father. But there was no pride in doing so. Although he had the physical satisfaction of assassinating enemies, it wasn’t the same as punishing the very man who took away his family. And so when one battle injury crippled his health from ever returning to the battle field - he resolved to perform in a different manner. He had always been an intelligent man but he consumed knowledge like it was water for the sake of politics. He learned to strategies and played the game of manipulation better and better. He had entered the palace set to ruin the King. It was unfortunate the King had died too early for the full glory of the fall of his empire. But Hyunki was determined to finish the business ; he wouldn’t stop until he watched the kingdom burn before him.
All would be crimson, decorated with ashes just like the blood that was spilled all those years ago.
PERSONALITY:
Positive: charismatic, clever, ambitious
There’s something innately charming about Hyunki that is difficult to avoid or ignore. He carries himself with an allure that draws attention from those around him - a gift that was passed to him from his mother. There’s an effortless grace that shines upon him through his simple existence. The way in which he uses his body language and expressions command appeal. He had always been an intelligent child but his wit and natural apt for cleverness grew as he matured. With a confident smirk and a gentle voice, he’s masterfully capable of capturing an audience when necessary. His seemingly harmless humor and sweet lips utter harmless words entwined with deeper meanings. His ambition is driven like his life force - his path shines before him in gold. He will do whatever it takes to reach his goals, regardless of the obstacles in his way. From appearances, he appears to be a very admirable person, easy to bask in his warmth, a suave smile decorating his features.
Negative: controlling, manipulative, egotistical
The one thing that Hyunki values the most out of anything he does is control. He is relentless about it. The man must have order in his life the way he demands it - it’s the last string that keeps him upright in the world of sanity. He is certainly manipulative toward all that cross his path. He sees no interest in those with insignificant roles - but he pretends to care. He always masks his indifference with words of false consideration. Carefully behind a facade of compassion and romance, he is able to woo those foolish enough to fall into his web of deceit. He’ll wrap those naive enough around his finger like puppets, using them and sucking them dry of their life until they pathetically depended on him as if he was their life force. And as much as he loved to play with emotions, his ego is also a huge flaw that would result in unsuccessful setbacks. He’s quietly arrogant, assuming his superiority over others he views beneath him. Those with pure hearts and goodness are failures in his eyes. To him, those idiots had yet to taste the bitter truths of reality. And he dares makes games to destroy those innocent in mind - finding thrill in their sufferings.
