Sabyuas' speech

So you may notice that a lot of what Sabyuas says kinda doesn't make sense! This is intentional and present in the original Japanese as well.

He doesn't say exactly what he means, but instead embellishes it to such a point that it's hard to understand what he actually means. For example, the line of dialogue about how he "observed" the ship whose people "lived outside of shadows" - it's just flowery speech for "I've never seen a non-Darkman before".

Same for "the silence was unable to be kept" - that just means "I couldn't help myself from making an appearance". He quite literally just speaks like this and it's a quirk I've chosen to keep since it's part of his character.

I've translated his words into English. Now you have to translate them into common sense! Translationception!

サ sa Sa

Sabyuas uses this as both his personal pronoun as well as a sentence prefix (where a pronoun would be unneeded/make no sense to put there).

I don't quite know how to handle this yet. For now, when he says Sa, I've kept it in the sentence since his bio also states that it's one of his quirks. I don't see a reason to change, but who knows.

キ ki 'Ya'

This is another of Sabyuas' weird speech quirks. Instead of addressing people by 君 (kimi), he instead says キ (ki). I tried to make it work in English as best I can.

I initially wanted to leave it as Y or Yu, but it was pointed out to me that people may mistake it for him saying 'Yuuhi' when he's not, so I made it 'Ya'.

Translating Sabyuas has been terrible...

ダークメン Darkmen

Thanks to this episode, we now know that "Darkmen" or "Darkman" is not actually the name of a person, but the name of an entire new species of... whatever they are. I can't say alien because Sabyuas' official bio (and Yuuhi's hair in-show) say that he doesn't quite seem like an actual alien.

Anyway, I will be switching between plural and singular as it makes sense for English. Japanese has no concept of a plural conjugation like English does (like ways to make words specify 1 or more, ie adding -s at the end of words), so they will keep referring to the species as Darkmen even if they only mean one of them.

Dark Matter

I just want to clarify that when Sabyuas is talking about how cards are letting him add "Dark Matters" back to hand, that's not actually what the cards say.

Sabyuas himself is twisting the card effect and says only Dark Matter, but the cards themselves say any DARK Galaxy.

Putting this here before we get people asking about if Rush is finally doing archetypes like OCG/TCG is. The answer is no.

Font changes!

Season 3 has kicked off, so there's a couple things I'll be changing as the season goes on.

The fonts used up til now I decided to use back when the show first started and it fit the whimsical mood of Go Rush a lot more. Obviously Go Rush has grown a lot in that time, so I'm re-evaluating font choices for the series.

To start, in this episode:

Default: Rubik Medium -> Sephora Sans

Yuuhi (+Yuamu): Baloo 2 -> Pikolo Regular

There may be some other changes as characters come back or duel. Yuudias' font may be changing as well (I know he already had a duel, but).

Since these cards were revealed for the newest pack, YGOrg already has a translation for them. However, I don't really like trying to force the reading as Curry Bread Drapery.

I believe her name is a play on the how Hindu deities are usually named, down to the selection of syllables used to mimick the sound. Yes, it is "curry bread" + "pandora" + "drapery" together - that isn't wrong. I just believe making it a full name instead of forcing the English works better.

This is just my opinion, though. Same goes for Cyber Spyce instead of Cyberse Spyce.

CPT's pronouns

You may have noticed we have used "it" to refer to CPT. This is entirely intentional and based simply on the reason that CPT doesn't seem like it wants to be compared to a lifeform (after all it spends the entire episode degrading everyone else for being living beings).

So I thought it best to not refer to CPT with gender or even something gender-neutral like "they" (like we use for Damamu).

"It" seemed like the best choice given that.

かわいい子 kawaiiko "My dearest child."

Because I foresee this causing confusion, I am here to clarify.

Yuamu is not literally calling Yuuga her child. As in, he is not her son (future or otherwise). We have all seen Yuuga's mother already.

"Kawaiiko" can be used to refer to anything that's cute or lovely, not just children. For example, a host may call a client かわいい子ちゃん (kawaiiko-chan) to flatter them and provide fanservice. In this example, both people are adults.

The reason why I kept "child" is that Yuamu's dialogue implies that Yuuga is her far-flung future descendant, not Yuuhi's. Emphasis on the far future.

Episode 100 was translated and proofread jointly by angelthinktank (Yona) and batsugeemu (Tessa). I only reworded some minor sentences, did the onion joke, and tightened up word choice to flow better.

A big thanks to the two of them for picking up this episode for me, as I couldn't be available to work on it.

"A radish side." "I'm more of a pickled onion person myself!"

This is a reference to some obscure beef between Japanese curry enthusiasts on which side dish is better with the curry.

There's fukujinzuke, which is basically the side dish that looks like a bunch of red bits that you get everywhere — ie, radish. There's also rakkyou, a lesser-known side dish that consists of pickled Chinese green onions (scallions), which you don't normally get.

Anyway, there's a lot of fighting online about which is the better side dish to eat curry with. It's a very passionate topic for people who are invested.

Personally, I also enjoy rakkyou more.

それはラッキー "That's layered."

Yes, Rovian is saying "that's lucky" here.

However, it's also supposed to be a joke/pun on the word rakkyou sounding like rakki (lucky). So, to make the joke fit the previous line better in English, we make the Shrek joke.

Episode 101 is back to normal staffing!

だってキミもこれから… "After all, you'll also become..."

More accurately, Yuuga says "after all, from now on you'll..." and it gets cut off.

The implication here is that Yuuga means Zwijo won't stop him because he knows Zwijo will also become Yuudias' "enemy" shortly, as this conversation takes place right before the events of episode 98. Zwijo's responses afterword commenting on the fact that Yuuga is alone as he undertakes his mission cements this.

Therefore, I tried to make it more obvious by adding "you'll also become" with the implication that the missing word is "an enemy".

Yuamu's dialogue

"Is it supposed to be that vague—" Yes.

I tried to translate it as close-sounding to the original Japanese as possible, with all the random stops and weird cut-offs. If her sentences sound weirdly unfocused and the English reads a little too vague, know that it was on purpose.

頭を下げて To bow your head down

When Yuuna says "So even after all this weeping you won't reconsider...", she's actually saying "even after I've bowed my head so much [...]", however this sounds like complete gibberish in English and doesn't convey the same feeling as it does in Japanese.

The gist of the joke is that Yuuna is implying she's been "so meek" by "caving" and "bowing her head" to plead with Manabu (while yelling at and hitting him), and Yuuhi commenting that she hasn't done that (be meek, bow her head) at all.

So I changed it to "weeping" to emulate the same effect. Basically some version of "lowering yourself" or "seeming pitiable".

余計な お世話も75日! "75 days of useless help!"

This is a reference to a Japanese saying that goes "the rumor mill lasts for 75 days" (人の噂も七十五日). It means people will talk and gossip for 75 days and then move on to the next new thing.

The phrase originally mentioned 100 days, but was changed to 75 a few centuries ago. Nowadays, I imagine that number is even less, what with the internet and all.

明日は明日のアルデンテ "Tomorrow's tomorrow's al dente!"

The sentence structure means it's more literally read as "tomorrow will be tomorrow's al dente" - I took this to mean "things set aside for tomorrow will seem perfect tomorrow" since "al dente" usually means something is cooked just right.

Tomorrow's ("tomorrow is") tomorrow's (possessive noun) al dente.

It is meant to be a little bit confusing (both the English I went for and Rovian's original Japanese).

ポエムは宇宙のウ冠 "Poems crown the universe."

I'm scratching my hair out over here, Rovian.

This is a pun/visual gag on the word "space" (宇宙). You notice how the very top of both kanji have this radical? 宀 <- This is called a "roof"

Rovian is saying that poems are the "roof" of the universe. As in, they make up the radical 宀. That doesn't quite make sense, so I made it "crown the universe".

As an aside, 宙 from 宇宙 ("space") can be used to mean sky. Since kanji comes from Chinese which is a pictographic language, that is represented by a roof 宀 over the sun 日 and rice fields/earth 田. Altogether, this forms 宙. "The space between the limit of the sun and the rice fields on earth" - that means the sky.

華蝶風彩 "Colors of the Flowers, Butterflies, and Wind" -> "Colors of Nature"

This is a pun on 花鳥風月 (kachuufuugetsu), also known as "the wonders of nature". Literally, it means "flowers, birds, wind, and moon". You may be familiar with this concept already thanks to ARC-V and the bracelet girls.

甘ちゃん結構 ホーホケキョ I'm fine as a fool, calling out for spring.

"Hokekyo" (ホケキョ) is the onomatopoeia for the sound a Japanese bush warbler makes. They are everywhere in Japan and hearing their song usually means spring is about to begin, as they only call out during mating season.

In Japanese culture, the heralding of spring also means "new beginnings" - which can be applied to this duel with Prisaki as well.

This is a little lost-in-translation joke, but basically Dinois is speaking like a gangster here in order to try and express her displeasure and possibly intimidate Zaion. Unfortunately for her, Zaion isn't fazed and only responds to her aggression with sarcasm.
