Invincible
Not safe!
From what I've heard. I haven't seen it myself yet (though I want to), and I'll do a more in-depth post when I do.
In the meantime, I have heard there is flashing! Please be careful!

An update on Genshin Impact:
I have played a while myself now and have had little problem. The only bit that can potentially bother me is Venti's elemental burst ability.
That being said, I've well established here that I am not as sensitive as some other people, so PLEASE be careful! There can be a lot of colors and movement when abilities start mixing together (largely I've found, in co-op play at higher levels) so please still be careful and be aware of your own sensitivity level.

there is a seizure warning at the beginning of the game

I'm gonna put a seizure warning out for the Irregulars. It's an enjoyable enough show, but I think the way they depict a main character's supernatural powers is pretty dangerous if you're photosensitive.
The second episode is particularly bad with flashing lights and camera effects.

A list of popular(?) media that has seizure-inducing imagery in it.
before we begin, this is not intended to say no one can watch/be into any of the things listed below, it is to simply warn my fellow epileptics of things that could cause a photosensory-induced seizure. that is, to also say, some of these things have other flaws and issues within them, and anything listed here is not exempt of problems/criticism, but i am not here to criticize them for the flaws within the thing itself. once again, this is a warning so people can avoid having seizures.
neon genesis evangelion - this series has extremely bad flashing, i could not finish it because of this. nearly every fighting scene (which there are a lot of) has intense flashing lights and colors.
revolutionary girl utena - from what i have heard, this, along with many other old anime (such as eva, listed above) have a big issue with flashing colors and strobe effects. generally, i would advise doing your research/asking people around you before watching an older anime. these can be very dangerous.
genshin impact - the game's fight mechanics are filled with bright colors and flashing lights, and there isn't a warning until you've already installed, and opened the game (and even that is very vague). it's caused people headaches, so i would not be surprised if it would cause seizures as well. luckily, there is a manga if you want to get into the story, however, if you have epilepsy, i would be wary of the game itself.
metalocalypse - in the intro specifically, there are many flashing lights and colors. they are also sprinkled throughout the show itself. these scenes are skippable, but i would recommend someone else (who knows when these happen) watch it with you, and give you time to look away or warn you before the flash.
nbc hannibal - there are very few flashing scenes in this show, and the places where flashes happen are skippable. the most prominent are when dr. lecter is brainwashing will and another girl (who i do not remember exactly who right now). these scenes are entirely skippable, and i absolutely would recommend doing so. ps., there is also a scene where will graham has an on-screen seizure. while there aren't any strobe effects happening at the time, the scene itself was very triggering for me, and upset me for a while after watching it.
homestuck - if you have epilepsy, i cannot stress this enough, do not look at homestuck, or anything homestuck related. this comic is literally seizure hell. there are an incredible amount of strobes, intense flashing colors, and general flickering images. (the original google document listing out homestuck's issues did not mention this. so i am.)
spiderman: into the spiderverse - while the animation is beautiful, this movie is chock full of bright colors and flashes. i was able to sit through it, but did get a headache afterwards. i would especially not recommend watching it in a dark-lit room, as it makes this issue worse.
mob psycho 100 - this show has a lot of bright colors that flash and are generally very eye-strainy. i had to skip out on a lot of this, but it may be watchable with the screen dimmed, depending on person to person.
dorohedoro - in most, if not all, of the dorohedoro openings, there are intense flashing colors and strobe effects. the rest of the show is pretty okay, but i would skip the openings (and endings) whenever possible.
half life - this has very minor flashes around the resonance cascade, but other than that, ive been told its fine to watch.
rwby - there are some flashy scenes, but i have never watched this show, so i can not elaborate in full detail about them. just be wary!
ghost (vocaloid producer) - many of the music videos include flashing colors and strobe effects in them. if you want to listen to their music, i would recommend going into a different tab or avoiding the actual music videos themself.
lisa the painful - this game has red flashing screens throughout the game, if you are going to try to play, i would advise having someone tell you when exactly these flashes are, or just watch a playthrough of it, but you may need to avoid it entirely.
if you're not epileptic, i encourage you to reblog this post and add any media you know that could be seizure-inducing (please include a small blurb on what the flashing is, whether it's avoidable, etc.) please do not start fights in the notes. this is a resource for people who experience seizures and want to avoid having them. thank you. ❤️

Willy’s Wonderland 2021
YES.  There is a scene close to the very beginning of the movie where multiple lightbulbs break which creates a flashing effect.  Throughout the second half of the movie, there are plenty of strobe effects.  The movie is good but please be careful while watching!

Hey, a quick psa:
The opening titles for the Doctor Who story The War Games show black and white video clips of explosions flashing on the screen in very rapid succession. They are pretty eyestrain-y and although I’m not sure if the flashing is enough to cause a seizure I’m mentioning it just in case.  If you are triggered or otherwise affected by eye strain and/or flashing images I would recommend that you close your eyes until the title sequence is over.
(If I got anything wrong or want me to add anything please let me know)

If you have epilepsy/photosensitivity, you may want to avoid the Quick Reblog thing on mobile for the time being. For some reason the green confirmation bar at the bottom of the screen is now flashing rapidly (basically strobing) whenever I Quick Reblog a post, and Tumblr Support hasn't gotten back to me about it besides the standard list of basic troubleshooting.

Websites that help with content filtering and content warning
Can I Play That? - accessibility of video games
Does the dog die? - tracks different content of movies and shows, you can check if a particular one has content you don't want seeing
Trigger warning database - like doesthedogdie, but with books
Unconsenting media - for all media, checks with whether or not there's sexual violence in a certain piece of media

Hannibal (TV) 2x04
Not safe! Very strong flashing begins around 14:00 (when Will receives an injection), until about 15:50 (should be safe to look again when you hear a character say “photosensitive epilepsy”).
(Note: [The sumbitter doesn’t] have epilepsy & haven’t finished the show, so there may be subtler/future triggering scenes in the series, but this one was very blatant and came on very suddenly)

I know the cyberpunk epilepsy thing has been talked about a lot at this point. We, as epileptics, tend to focus a lot of energy on the "what was done badly" since it has such a drastic effect on our health, and strobes are such a big problem.
I was thinking about Stardew Valley, and kinda wanted to talk about the one tiny thing that made it accessible, and why it makes this game my favourite.
It seems surprising, thinking about it, that stardew valley could trigger seizures. I didn't think it would the first time I played it, and it wasn't until I got to winter that I actually had any problems.
You see, with photosensitivity its not necessarily about flashing so much as it is the sharp contrast and the change between colours. As well as how much of your vision is taken up by that movement speed.
While the storms during the other seasons didn't cause me issues (blue raindrops on a grey blue background) the snow storms did (white on a dark ish background)
The first time I saw the snow my heart completely shattered. I'd been watching stardew as it was developing and wanted to play it so badly. It felt so unfair that I played multiple hours before even finding out the game wasn't safe. I spent the rest of the night crying about it, which may sound stupid, but photosensitivity means you can't get excited for video games, and this was one of the few I let myself be excited about.
My ex gf was the one who pointed out the snow transparency setting after looking into it themselves. This one slider bar in the settings. Something I didn't think to check for since I rarely see them.
That slider made this game for me, and it was there when the game released. I can't tell you how much that single setting has made me cry over the years because one man decided it may be useful to some people.
When epileptics make posts about a specific video game or a movie or whatever its because we have examples of how easy it is to put in these settings! My bf's modded 3 games for me so they don't give me seizures and all he had to do was like change a timer? Or set images to static????
Keep your flashing lights if you need them for your "artistic vision" just give us the settings so we don't need to be scared

EPILEPSY AD WARNING
Tumblr media
To my pals with epilepsy, or any other form of photosensitivity, THIS AD FLASHES RAPIDLY UPON ACTIVATING ITS ANIMATION and its actively dangerous.
This is as far as I could scroll down without triggering the flash. If you see the womans face, stop scrolling and do what you need to do to avoid triggering the flash.
@staff @support This ad needs to be removed. It poses a threat to photosensitive/flash-sensitive individuals and epileptic folks.

Corpse Party 1
(AKA Corpse Party, Corpse Party: Blood Covered)  NOT SAFE! LOTS of red and white flashing lights throughout the game as reactionary events. There’s so many it wouldn’t even be worth logging them all

Two years after it’s release, and Into The Spiderverse still has no warnings about the dangerous amounts of flashing lights it uses. This is a perfect example of why we can’t stop talking about the damage Cyberpunk 2077 has done to the epilepsy community and keep pushing for improvements in visual media in general on these matters. If we stay silent, nothing will improve, and it will only send the message, as Spiderverse did, that improvements when it comes to safety aren’t necessary.
More and more often, egregious examples of flashing lights aren’t being warned for at all, or if they do get warned for, it’s only after we shout for days after release about how badly a warning is needed. This is not okay. These industries need to do better. And we need to hold them accountable for that.
