A SeSa gift for @pinesbrosfalls, who wanted “Ford in the multiverse, in whatever cool/random universe you come up with”!
I had this idea on my list for a while.  The space cat is based on a 1970s illustration by Frank Frazetta (see below the cut), posted on @70sscifiart a while back.  When I saw it, I thought it would make a fun encounter for Portal Ford, and saved it.  This seemed like a good time to follow through. :)   Hope you enjoy!

Sunset? No, totality during the eclipse on Monday. We watched it near Loudonville, OH, in a parking lot on top of a hill, at a resort out in the middle of nowhere. Great spot for it -- it was just the four of us, and two other couples. The 360 degree twilight/sunset is such a cool part of the eclipse.

Is the orange-red/blue a cliché? Yes. I just wanted to do something dramatic. It was fun, but it never comes out exactly the way you first imagined it.

Meanwhile - MOSS and LICHENS
It's been warmer and very rainy the past few days, so the Starry Bristle Moss (orthotrichum stellatum) near where I get the bus in the morning is all out and plumped up. Back in 2019 I posted some pics along with what it looks like when it's dry out (it's not nearly as green and lush.)
I love getting to say hi to it when it's out and enjoying the damp and wet weather like this. It's so cute!
Nearby trees have a lot more lichen than moss on them. (They have SOME moss; while the trees with the large amount of moss have SOME lichens, but it seems like an either-or thing.)
Fairly sure that the light green, larger one is common greenshield lichen (Flavoparmelia caperata).
What I can't figure out yet is the very yellow-green stuff. I'm not even sure if it's a lichen, or a moss. Or something else? In the bottom-left photo, as I zoom in, I THINK that some of the more yellow-green bits MIGHT be young versions of the grey-green greenshield lichen??? But the bottom right photo seems like a completely distinct population (on another tree).
I'm not finding anything comparable in some preliminary searches. Will keep trying, but if anyone has any clues, give me a shout!

Mystery bulb!
A few years ago, I put in a bunch of Siberian squill bulbs, given to me by a friend who does a lot of gardening. Those usually come up in early April.
But this white flower with the blue stripes came up in mid-March, and I'd never seen it before.
There are a bunch of wild tulips (or, "species tulips" I guess they should be called) in this patch of garden too; which I never planted and I have no idea where they came from. But they flower LATER than the squill.
Anyway, my friend helped out and our tentative identification of this was striped squill, or Lebanon squill (Puschkinia scilloides).
But now I'm not so sure, because all of the other photos I can find of striped squill show a petal-sheath structure around the stamens, which these obviously don't have.
Tumblr media
^ from the Wikipedia page for Puschkinia scilloides.
BUT, then I did find ONE PAGE where a guy had pics that look like mine, and he was confidently identifying them as Puschkinia scilloides.
So I'm unsure what's up with that.
My friend said that yeah, she has these all over her yard too, so there's a possibility one of those bulbs got mixed in with all of the Siberian squill bulbs. But that this one took longer to mature, so that's why I didn't see it flower last year.
It's cute. I hope it propagates a little.

On my trip to see my family last weekend, I stayed in my brother’s basement, and that’s where the Hamm’s sign lives.  Since it was lit up and everything, I thought I’d take some pics of it and share.
The Hamm’s On Tap sign has been a fixture of our basements since I was little.  I don’t know where my dad got it; he had a lot of old kitschy plastic beer advertising stuff that he put in the basement because he’d built a little bar down there, and we used to hang out down there and have happy hour and stuff.  (Later, it was the only place in the house that got cable, so I had to watch MTV down there.)  We didn’t keep most of that memorabilia, but my brother kept the Hamm’s sign.
Hamm’s Brewery was originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, and their advertising featured a lot of outdoorsy themes.  I’m not sure if Hamm’s is even still made? I think Miller bought them out.  Regardless, having the sign was very exotic because back in those days it sure wasn’t a beer being sold in eastern Pennsylvania.
The sign above is one of the simpler versions, and when I was looking online for comparable examples, I couldn’t actually find other pics of this style.  At any rate, the much more common and well-known style looks like this:
Tumblr media
With the label panel on the left, and a scene on the right, and the shingled “roof”.  (The scene varies, but I picked an example with the waterfall for a reason.)
Why am I sharing this?  Because from the first episode of Gravity Falls, I felt that sense of nostalgia for my own childhood every time we saw the living room of the Mystery Shack:
Tumblr media
Even though the Shack’s light-up sign is based on the more common type above, rather than the type my family had, it was still immediately recognizable to me, and I had a feeling the Shack’s was still based on the old Hamm’s signs even though I hadn’t seen that style.  Nice to confirm it, though. :)
I suspect that Alex Hirsch included it because he also likes the “H” for “Hirsch”.  But I wouldn’t be surprised if either his Grandpa Stan, or his Great-Aunt with whom he and Ariel spent summers, had one of those Hamm’s signs somewhere.
There’s another light-up “H” sign in the Shack living room:
Tumblr media
That’s not a sign style I recognize, but it looks more neon than the plastic sheet type seen above.  The “H” is done in the same style, though, so I think the implication is that it’s advertising from the same brewery company as the sign above Stan’s chair.  (That light fixture over the dining table is also so 70s I just can’t stand it.  The style of the dining table, actually, is older; we used to have an oak one very like that in my Mom’s old house, but it was really beat up and nobody kept it.  The ends of the legs ended in lion’s paws though.)
Anyway, just a small thing I wanted to share. :)

HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY TO GRAVITY FALLS!
Back in Oct. 2018, my project for inktober was at least one pic from every episode.  Because of the pace, there were restrictions; I did each on a post-it note, limited coloring, and chose things that would fit the square format and that I could get done in time (between working full-time and owl-banding most nights).  I always sort of wanted to redo a bunch of those; but really, what occasion would merit putting in THAT much time and effort for a project of that size?
Well, how about for the 10th anniversary of the premiere of Gravity Falls?
I’m not saying this was a *smart* project to tackle, but I thought it might be “easier” because I had first drafts of most of the pieces; I just wanted to redo them so they’d look better, with 4 more years of practice under my belt and a new move to digital art.  (Narrator: it was not really easier.)  Some I redid completely, or did new to create the full sets above.  Basically, once I’d hit on this idea, and decided to link it to the refrain of “How Far We’ve Come”, I was committed; there was no way I was going to *not* try to do it.
I know that “How Far We’ve Come” gets fanvidded for eight billion different shows.  But, the first time I heard the song was in one of the first Gravity Falls fanvids I ever watched (link  below), so it will always be a GF song for me.
Gravity Falls has meant a lot to me for the past 6 years that I’ve been active in the fandom.  I have no doubt it will always have a big place in my heart. I’m definitely not done with things I’d like to do for it.  I’m so glad to see people coming together to celebrate this big anniversary!
ALSO: needless to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stan and Ford!

Happy FIFTH ANNIVERSARY, Gravity Falls Finale!
Hard to believe, isn’t it?   To mark the occasion this year, I decided to do a version of a sketch by Alonso Ramirez Ramos, one of the great GF storyboarders (see below for the original).  Most obvious change, of course, was that I had to add Fiddleford.  (For one thing I didn’t like that empty area in the left; but also, Fidds deserves to be there too. :)
And as always, remember, to quote Jason Ritter:
Gravity Falls is real, and it will never die.

HAPPY 7th ANNIVERSARY to the Gravity Falls Finale!
Of course, didn't want to let the day go by without marking the occasion! Nothing ambitious this year (it has not been a good couple of months), but I settled on this screenshot redraw as it's a favorite little moment. "Me and my -- heh -- nerdy bro over here have some catchin' up to do." They both look so happy, and I always loved that.
And as always, to quote Jason Ritter:
Gravity Falls is real, and it will never die.
Image description: a digital screenshot redraw of Stan and Ford Pines from Gravity Falls. They're standing on the porch of the Mystery Shack during Dipper and Mabel's birthday party, and Stan has one arm over Ford's shoulder. He's grinning and gesturing with a bottle of Pitt cola, and Ford's smiling back at him warmly.

Happy SIXTH ANNIVERSARY, Gravity Falls Finale!
Like last year, I decided to mark this year with a redraw of a poster sketch by GF development and storyboard artist, Alonso Ramirez Ramos.  There have been a number of versions by various people over the years, who inked and colored his sketch, but I wanted to try to do it in my style.  Above, a detail view, plus the original, classic sketch.
And as always, to quote Jason Ritter:
Gravity Falls is real, and it will never die.
Now, onward into its 10th anniversary year!

Pressed for time, so, just a little piece to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the Gravity Falls finale!
This is a redraw of a promo image that Dana Terrace did for the finale, and posted to Tumblr around Feb. 12, 2016. It's no longer on her Tumblr but you can find reblogs of it, such as here. (And, see below the cut.)

Went down to Woods Hole, MA, on Cape Code, for brunch on Sunday. Afterwards poked around Woods Hole and Falmouth; and I wanted to see Nobska Light while we were there. While chilly and windy, we were still feeling the benefits of the warm weekend, and had to bundle up less than you'd expect for a trip to the Cape in February.
Nobska Light is very cute and scenic! It wasn't open, and while the Keeper's house seems to have been renovated and is planned to be a maritime museum, it wasn't open either. On the other side of the road was a short path to the cliff above the ocean (really, Vineyard Sound), where we looked out at Martha's Vineyard to the east, and the Elizabeth Islands chain to the west. Birds spotted: common eiders, red breasted mergansers, and a long-tailed duck drake came flying in.
Here's the text of the historical sign:
NOBSKA LIGHTHOUSE Latitude 41 30' 54" N Longitude 70 39' 20" Since 1828, Nobska Light has provided a familiar beacon for "all who go down to the sea in ships". 67 feet above sea level, Nobska's flash every six seconds is visible 17 miles out to sea. This 28,000 candlepower light used a 1000-watt lamp magnified by a Fourth Order Fresnel lens. The red section visible ton the east side of the lantern house warns ships away from Hedge Fence and L'Hommedieu Shoals south of the Cape. The present tower is 42 feelt high and was constructed in 1876. It was built to replace the original "Nobsque" light, a stone cottage with a light tower on top which had stood since 1828. The present tower is made of a cast iron shell lined with brick. It was built in Chelsea, Massachusetts and transported to Cape Cod in four sections. The front half of the current "keeper's house" was also built in 1876. Originally painted dark maroon-brown, it had a covered walkway to the tower attacked in 1899 and a second "assistant keeper's house" added in 1907. [Note: see bottom-right photo above.] Over the year, windows, doors, porches and walkways have come and gone and the color has been changed to the classic Coast Guard white with red roof. [Note: this sign is now out of date; the keeper's house is no longer white, although it still has its red roof; it is now covered in cedar shingles, which have weathered to a grey color.] Nobska Light became part of the Coast Guard in 1939, when the U.S. Light House Service merged with the Coast Guard. Despite this change, the keepers of the light remained civilians until Mr. Hindley retired in 1973, when active duty Coast Guard keepers took up the duty. In 1983, Nobska Light was automated. The two keepers houses were joined and became the quarters for Commander Coast Guard Group Woods Hole and his family. The Woods Hole Group serves the mainland and islands from Plymouth, Massachusetts to the Rhode Island/Connecticut state line.
Older photos above and some information came from:

Uhhh... @stanuary - Week 4: Strangers & Brothers? Maybe?
I think this concept was stronger in my head. I was thinking about that bit in NWHS where Stan walks away from the kids just before telling them about the Portal and what he's trying to do, and he walks by this window and it shows his reflection in it. I was thinking about all the times when the show has used Stan's and Ford's reflections in things as a reference to their missing twin.
Even though in the ep, Stan doesn't look at his own reflection in that moment (it shows his profile), there are other moments when he does. And since he's thinking about telling the kids all of this, and thinking about that line "You're gonna hear some bad things about me, and some of them are true", I thought about him seeing the past in his reflection -- his own past, and then the echo of his face in his brother's face, and what Ford looked like the last time Stan saw him.
