ok so during the battle of the labyrinth, there was some obvious tension between annabeth and ethan that was never further addressed or explained and i really can’t stop wondering what it was

i read we hunt the flame months ago but i’m still confused by hafsah faizal’s decision to have zafira call her mom “umm” but her dad “baba”

“umm” is very formal and kind of like the arabic equivalent to “mother” while “baba” is more casual and like the arabic equivalent to “dad”. i’m arab and i’ve never heard anyone their mother “umm”

maybe she was trying to show the different dynamics in zafira’s relationships with her mom and dad (her being kind of distance from her mom but close with her dad) but idk it just comes off a little awkward
