Sypnosis: The truth is always revealed, one way or another. No matter how small or how big a secret is it can cause riffs between friends, especially a secret like his.

One second she had been running, flag in hand and determined to win, and the next she had turned, and there he sat on the ground, foot hurting, his team's flag laying about a foot away from him. He had fallen, and on the inside, she was laughing evilly at it. Karma was apparently real.
If she had not been irritated with him and had ignored him for the past three days, y/n would have without doubt gone to help him, but as of now, it was only amusing to see him in some kind of pain. She didn't want him to hurt that badly—she didn't want him to hurt the way he used to when his father wasn't around, like when they were younger—but having him have an ankle that hurt and made winning the Poe Cup possible was something she enjoyed.
In the mere time of two weeks, he had just suddenly snapped at her five times, all because she was asking how he was doing. She had replayed the past month in her head to try and find the reason behind his behaviour, but nothing made sense. There had not been one instance where she had said or done something that would cause him to react in such a way.
The catch, however, was that just the day after his outbursts at her, he would simply act as if he hadn't just snapped at her. In the beginning, she told herself that it was just Xavier having a bad day and shrugged it off. But when it happened a third time—and then a fourth time—that's when she slowly became more and more irritated with the way he was acting.
The fifth time was when she snapped back, which was three days ago. Since then, y/n have refused to talk, look, or even be in the same room as him, until now.
She looked down at the flag in her hand, debating what to do as she cast her eyes towards the way to the boats. Running back to the others would have been easy; they would win without any problem. Leaving Xavier there with a hurt ankle and the sirens already out would mean a secure win.
But she wanted to help. Even though she had cut herself off from him for the time being, she knew he was still her friend.
Beams of the sun tore their way through the spaces between the leaves, successfully shining into her eyes as she looked towards where the canot was. Despite it being autumn, it was still pretty warm and beautiful outside—not yet the cold, rainy, and depressing kind.
When she heard the hisses of pain and flurry of curses coming from his mouth, her eyes fell closed with an exasperated sigh. Her hands landed on her hips as she turned to him, her team's flag still in her hand.
For a moment, she just stared at him, taking in his looks. The clown makeup obscured his features, making it hard to read his face as the mind became fooled by the painted-on, wide smile. If she had to express her thoughts on Xaviers' team's costumes, she would say they were moderately bad, but they looked okay—not great, but okay.
"Stop complaining." y/n sighed as she begrudgingly kneeled down by his foot, placing her team's flag next to her, which earned her a questioning look from Xavier.
He winced when she gently touched the swollen part of his ankle. He knew she was not too fond of him as of now; his constant apologising for how he had been acting told him that much. The tired look in her eyes as he tried to apologise all those times told him just how over it she was.
"What are you doing?" He finally asked, watching as her movements halted for a second before she continued her inspection of his hurt and probably sprained ankle.
"Checking your ankle." That was the simple answer he received from the other party as she tried to estimate the severity of his injury. It did not seem to be that bad as he could apparently move his foot, but it seemed to hurt, judging by the way his face contorted whenever she tried to move his foot a little.
"Why? Ow, hey!" Xavier exclaimed loudly at the pain from his ankle when y/n were being all but gentle.
"If you stop squirming like a baby, it won't hurt that much." If she looked up, he was sure she would glare a hole into his skull.
"That much." Xavier poked, but when y/ns eyes rose from his ankle up to meet his with a glare, he held up his hands. "Okay, I'm quiet."
There was a pang of guilt hitting him; of course, it had hit him many times during the past two weeks, but it seemed to hurt more now when she refused to even look at him for a longer period. He knew he had messed up badly.
y/n had always had a mellow personality; most of the others at school considered her to be more mature. She was not short-tempered and gave in to her anger in the same way others would, refusing to ever speak immaturely about others—that is, calling them names or talking about people behind their backs. She was just that genial, preferring smiles over frowns.
But now, now she was glaring, speaking with a sort of harshness in her tone. She ignored his every attempt at saying sorry, simply rolling her eyes and brushing past him as if he were not right there. She sat beside her other friends in class. She did everything she was against doing, but yet, when she did speak to him, she was still mature enough to not belittle him as a person and keep herself from yelling, which she had done just an hour before the Poe Cup started.
"I've said sorry about a hundred times since yesterday!" Xavier had called after her while she walked off to change into her costume; he had not yet done so himself either.
"I don't want an apology." She spoke firmly but calmly. He had said sorry so many times since yesterday that she could no longer keep count on her hands.
It was the way he would snap at her for just asking how he was, and then after, it was as if nothing had happened. The day after, he would simply act normal with her. But there was something that had changed in his demeanor, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Then what?" Xavier asked, finally being close enough to grab a hold of her wrist and pull her to a halt. y/n turned, and immediately her gaze was on his hand holding her wrist, but only for about ten seconds before she shook his hand off her.
"All I want is an explanation for why you've fucking lost it up five times in the last two weeks when all I've done is ask how you're doing." As always, her voice was stern, but she did not yell. "Can you give me a reason?"
There was silence as she waited for an answer, looking up at him, waiting for just a reason. It did not have to be a big reason—Xavier could have easily lied and said it was about his dad—just a simple answer would do her just fine. An apology did not explain anything at all, but she knew, y/n knew—there was a bigger reason for his outbursts.
When all she got was Xavier opening his mouth as if he were about to say something, then closing it quickly and just sighing, running a hand through his hair, she was done. y/n shook her head at him, backing off.
"See, you can even give me a simple reason. Don't talk to me unless you're going to tell me why." With that, she left, walking over to the girls in her team with a dull look on her face. She was done being nice.
"y/n." Xavier caused her to stop. "I am sorry, you do know that, right?"
There was a silence that lasted just a few seconds longer than he liked. His eyes stayed on her the whole time, intently gazing at her.
"It's all you've been saying since Monday." y/n shrugged her shoulders and sat back, not looking at him.
"Why isn't that just enough then?" Even from where he sat, he could see her roll her eyes and was almost certain she was going to sigh in exasperation once more at him.
"Because I don't know if you're going to snap at me again even though you've apologized, and it's tiring." y/n turned and faced him, staring into his eyes. "And I know there's something wrong."
"Nothing's wrong, like I've said." Xavier sat with his hands outstretched and shoulders shrugged, but the answer on made y/n stand up with an irritated expression.
"This is what I mean when I say that you can't give me a single reason, and this is why I don't want to talk until you're actually going to tell me." She tiredly motioned towards him, holding her team's flag in one hand, and unbeknownst to Xavier, she had also picked up his flag.
"I can't tell you."
"You're unbelievable." She shook her head with a slightly disgusted face as Xavier looked off to the side.
Finally, being tired of staying there, she wanted to win but also have some kind of competition as the sirens were out, so she held out her hand for him to take. When he took notice of her holding out her hand for him to take, he blinked.
"What?"
"Do you want to get to the canoe or not? I can just leave you here and throw away the flag." y/n stated simply, with her arm still outstretched, and the annoyance in her tone made him realise not to question her. Without hesitation, he took a hold of his hand and helped as much as he could with getting up, and soon they were on their way back to the canots.
The only thing was that even if Xavier and his team got back into the canoe like y/ns team, for the first halfway across the lake, both teams were equal, but Wednesday's plan had assured the Black Cats that winning spot.
It was just more fun to see the boys' disappointment up close.
//
The cold night air bit on her skin just comfortably enough; she was no longer crammed in a room with all the girls on her team and some others. Wednesday had given Enid quite the murderous look once she realised her roommate had invited them all over there. The air in their dorm had grown thin, and the time was slowly working its way towards curfew, so y/n had left with a simple goodbye and a smile at her teammates and friends.
It was not often that she risked being out a bit before curfew, but the few times she had done so often ended with Mrs. Thornhill simply telling her to be inside within the next fifteen minutes or she would get more work. It was relaxing to walk around the quiet and empty quad, which was usually bustling with activity.
She looked up at the stars, seeing some of her favourite constellations. Lactera was visible; she could barely make it out, but once she saw it, it was there. Her thoughts began to wander as her eyes scanned the night sky and the billions of stars that existed many lightyears away.
There were not many times where her nights were this quiet; usually they were filled with laughter and just having a fun time—a fun time with Xavier. The thought of him dampened her once upbeat mood. Last she saw of him, he had stared as she and her teammates cheered loudly for winning, then got help from Ajax to walk off. She had been staring into his eyes for just a second, and the warmth she felt around him spread through her, but it also hurt. In no way, shape, or form could she ever understand what his problem was with her all of a sudden.
She could not comprehend what she might have done for him to blow up at her five times. Was she not as close to him as she thought herself to be? No, from what she knew, he often referred to her and Ajax as his closest friends. He had done so that one time when she met his dad; not that he seemed to pay any attention to or have any sort of care for his son's friends (or his son, for that matter).
The sounds of what she thought to be Mrs. Thornhill going out there to, as usual, tell her she had fifteen minutes before she needed to be in her dorm did not make her budge. y/n just continued standing there, watching the burning balls of fire and gas that had their own system of planets circling them. But her peace and the thought that it was Mrs. Thornhill were quickly destroyed.
"Well, if it isn't the winner." Xavier called as he walked into the quad from his shed, something he usually never does alone these days. His tone was a little teasing as he walked out into the quad, standing just a few feet away from y/n who had lowered her gaze from the stars.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She only cast a glance at him, speaking with an annoyed tone.
"I just got back; I have to spend my time all alone since you refuse to even look at me." As he said so, his eyes tried to find hers, but she was stubborn and would not let him meet her gaze. Xaviee sighed, tilting his head at her, and waited for an answer.
"I've told you two times today, I only want to talk if you're going to tell me what's going on." For a quick second, she met his eyes. "And you can just hang out with Ajax, Kent, or anyone."
"You're not even going to ask how I am?" y/n understood that that question was meant to tell her how out of character this was for her. If he or anyone around her, got hurt or didn't feel good, she would always check in on them. But, as much as she wanted to, she hadn't asked him how his foot was doing.
"Okay, how's your foot?" It was not asked with that much care; it was a question she only asked because he subtly pointed out how out of character she was acting.
"It's better." Xavier responded, thinking they were getting somewhere, but that quickly proved wrong.
"Hm," y/n hummed before clicking her tongue and turning on her heel. "That's sad. I thought it would last longer."
Xavier groaned tiredly, almost in despair, at her remark, letting his head fall back to see the sky before quickly running his hand through his hair and catching up to her. Even though he had the advantage of having longer legs, it always seemed as if y/n were running once she simply started walking, with the brunette almost jogging after her.
She had just been about to open the doors to the inside and then go towards the stairs to get to her dorm when she was stopped again, this time by Xavier grabbing her shoulder. She let out a breath of air, clearly bothered by his attempts to try and talk. Taking a glance at the hand resting on her shoulder, Xavier took that as a sign to slowly let her go.
"How long are you going to keep this up?" Xavier asked, exhaustion clear in his voice when he spoke; in return, he earned a pair of raised brows while she finally looked at him without averting her eyes.
"As long as I feel like it and as long as you won't tell me what's wrong." y/n made her point clear, but Xavier shook his head at her for looking around before rubbing his forehead.
"This is childish." He mumbled, which perked y/n's ears. All she did was stare at him, her brows creating a crease between them as she looked up at him and spotted how slowly he realised what he had just said.
When he realised exactly what he said, Xavier looked at the girl, who was speechless. He could see how she was trying to form words but failing every time. Her mouth would move just a little and then she would close it before trying once more, only for her to close her mouth in frustration. She was trying her hardest not to snap at him.
"I'm childish?" y/n finally asked, staring daggers into his soul.
"I didn't mean it like that, it's just your acting—"
"I'm acting childish." He looked away when she said so, but y/n followed his gaze to catch his eyes. "You can just say that if that's what you feel."
"I didn't mean it like that at all."
"But you did. You're calling me childish—the one who's been calm and handled your fucking outbursts like nothing up until three days ago. Three days ago, Xavier, I behaved as any rational person would when yelled at for no apparent reason. So who's really the childish one between the two of us?"
Neither of them said anything. She was waiting for him to say something—an insult or a reason—it would not matter; she just waited for him to say something. Her eyes never left him, standing her ground and finally, for once, acting like she should, not holding back what she personally thought.
On the other hand, Xavier was mentally cursing himself for speaking so out of context. This had all become worse than he had ever intended it to be, not that he ever meant to snap at y/n. The feeling she would leave him with most days—a sense of hopelessness about ever having a chance—had taken hold of him. At times, he would have wished it only to be a simple crush and not him being hopelessly in love, but he was unlucky.
"You're the childish one who just can't tell me what's wrong and just..." y/n dropped her hand to her side instead of flapping it around, a deep frown on her face instead of a scowl. "What have I even done?"
"Nothing. You've done nothing." Xavier was quick to answer her, but was met with a scoff.
"I must have," y/n insisted.
"You haven't."
"Stop lying. Just tell me." They were on the verge of yelling at each other but still kept their voices down a bit as they did not want the teacher to come outside and find them.
"No." Xavier quickly shook his head at her.
"Tell me."
"No."
"Okay, you know what—" Moving to open the school door, she got it open a few inches before Xavier pushed it shut in front of her. This caused y/n to turn to him.
"Can't you just leave it alone?" Xavier asked, his voice now calmer. His eyes were surprisingly soft when looking at her, as if he were begging her to.
"No," y/n sighed, looking at him with a sort of harshness to bang it into his thick skull. "I'm not going to leave it be when whatever's wrong you're taking out on me for no reason, and I haven't done anything according to you."
"y/n,"
"No, Xav. I'm tired, exhausted even; can you just let me go inside unless you're going to tell me what's wrong?" Her eyes were dull. He had not noticed before just how tired she actually seemed to be, but now he could see it in her eyes, the shine in them gone from the drowsy feeling.
He kept blocking the door, standing in front of her without bugging her. None of them said anything, y/n being all too tired of going back and forth with him, and she was just waiting for him to let her pass. Xavier, on the other hand, had a full-on crisis in his head. What the hell was he supposed to do? He had no idea how to express his feelings.
His mind blank about how to express his feelings for her, he looked over her face—very subconsciously. Then his eyes began to flock together between her eyes—those usually soft and happy eyes that now were filled with exhaustion—and down to her lips. He swallowed, unsure if this was the only way to convey the message.
It was as if he was doing everything he had just told himself the other day not to. Suddenly he had reached out one of his hands, laying it on y/ns cheek, which caused her to look up at him, perplexed. There were not many instances when Xavier Thorpe was completely uncertain of something, but this was one of the things he was truly iffy about.
Xavier leaned in and connected their lips, taking a leap of faith with a slight hesitation. There was no kind of resistance on y/n's part, in fact, he swore she relaxed just the tiniest bit as he let his thumbs stroke across her cheekbone. She wasn't kissing back, but she was relaxed, and it made his heart race more than ever before. What the hell did that mean?
Pulling away after a short while, his hand was still resting on y/n's cheek as she opened her eyes, and they were slightly wide. He stood there, quiet, awaiting a reaction. Good or bad. Her eyes stayed just a little wide as he looked from side to side, as if searching her brain for any kind of ability to give a reaction.
"y/n," He started but went no further before her hand took a gentle hold of his wrist and his hand that rested on her cheek, only for her to remove it from her cheek.
She held his wrist before starting to shake her head, which caused Xavier to furrow his brows while looking at her. Then she furrowed her brows, looking down and to the side; it was all just too much to process all at once. She gnawed at the inside of her cheek, much like she used to when she was little and needed to be around new people she didn't know or when she was deeply—deeply confused.
"y/n," Xavier tried again, reaching his free hand out towards her, but y/n was quick to brush it away, preventing him from touching her.
"No, no." She backed off a little, his wrist still being held in her hand, which caused him to get pulled along and no longer cover the door inside.
"Can you just—" y/n backed away from him once more as he spoke, releasing her grip on his wrist and holding up her hands to keep space between them.
"Wha—what? I... I don't understand you." It was all she could say, her mouth agape and her brows knitted together in bewilderment and almost a little disgust.
Before he could say anything, y/n shook her head for the fiftyth time that night, then brushed past him and went inside, leaving Xavier standing there alone.
He sighed; there was no reason to follow her, as he knew he would not be able to keep up, and curfew was just minutes away from striking. But he did not care and just stood there under the stars, staring at the spot y/n had once stood at.
Veritatem dies aperit, time reveals the truth.

Sypnosis: Secret santa was a fun thing for the little secret society, they'd done it for a few years, but this year his gift have a bit more thought behind it as its for her.
Word count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
She simply stared at him, her eyes asking if he was truly serious. This was not the reason she had thought he would ask her to come down there—well, to be frank, she had thought all Nightshades were called to their little hideout, not just herself, and not for this reason.
Pinching the bridge of her nose, she wondered if Xavier was for real. He was not supposed to give her the present personally, as it was tradition for the Nightshades to do a sort of "secret Santa" thing. Bianca had promised she would figure out who had y/ns present for her and give it to her the next day—without telling her who it was from, of course—before she went home for Christmas.
"You're not supposed to give it to me; have you not realised that in—? Three years?" y/n asked with a teasing tone while looking up at him.
"Of course I have; I just thought that you were going home so I could just give it to you." He shrugged his shoulders without really thinking much about it all, although his heart did most certainly beat faster and harder in his chest. He would never admit to that, though maybe in his head but not out loud.
"Bianca said she was going to find out which of you got me and get it for me so I could open it when I got home." She was not going to lie; it warmed her heart and cheeks that he wanted to personally give it to her.
"Well, now you have no choice but to open it here." Xavier held out the wrapped present for her to take and could see her suspiciously looking at it.
"Are you nervous I won't like it, Thorpe?" She narrowed her eyes at him, gently taking the present from his hands, and she waited for an answer.
"Me? No."
To be honest, he was terrified. That was because if he read a book for the entire month of November and added his own personal comments on things in it, and then spent another month adding his own take on how the characters looked, only for it all to go down the drain, he would melt like the wicked witch of the west when she got water on herself.
For two months, he had to put up with the teasing from the other guys in the neighbouring dormitories because whenever they decided to play games or something, Xavier would still be there but his nose would be deep into a book the entire time.
"Yeah, right," y/n mumbled as she started to fidget and try to find where to open the present. There was a light smile on her face as she focused on being careful, as always. The limited lighting in the Nightshades society was not the best, which made it even harder.
"Okay, so what if I am?" Xavier asked the question as if it were hypothetical. y/n almost felt like he should have just added hypothetically before, just for her own amusement.
"Relax, when you got me three years ago for this, you honestly got the best gif ever. I doubt you'll disappoint me this time; give your fourteen-year-old self some credit."
Yes, when they were fourteen and had just started this thing back up, doing secret Santa for the first time, Xavier had gotten her something she liked. The only thing different between then and now was that now he had a major crush on the girl before him, and this time he had switched with Ajax to actually get her this year.
He shouldn't have; Xavier knew that, but when he read the name on his note and it said Devina, he sneakily glanced over at Ajax's note, which said y/n. As soon as they got away from the others, he pretty much had to bribe Ajax to switch sides with him. It had cost him three weeks' worth of chores in the dormitories that were assigned to Ajax, but in a way, it was totally worth it.
Without saying another word, he watched expectantly as she finally unwrapped his gif. She tilted her head slightly as she looked down at it—a book. Not just any book, but her favorite. The black cover with simple white text was familiar, as she had an exact copy on her bookshelf in her dorm.
For a second, it looked as if she was about to say something; she opened her mouth but quickly shut it as she spotted something else. Holding the spine of the book, she turned it so she could see all six hundred and forty pages of it, only to see a familiar sight of sticky notes. It was as if her brain short-circuited, going dead as she blinked at the book with an obviously perplexed face.
"This is my favourite book." y/n stated the obvious, eyes still on the book in her hand, fingers brushing over the neatly placed sticky notes.
"Mhm," Xavier said, his heart racing.
Opening up the book to see what the notes were, she was met with a hand-drawn picture of what she assumed to be the characters. They were all lined up and identifiable by their distinct characteristics. The narrator of them all was easy to spot; he was drawn looking slightly nervous.
A smile tugged at Xaviers' lips as he could see she was appreciating the gift. He watched as she marvelled over the drawings he'd done of the six main characters.
"They're exactly like I imagined them in my head," y/n did not look up as she made the comment but instead flipped to her favourite page, earning a chuckle from the boy in front of her.
A bit flustered, he scratched his neck before saying anything, letting out a sigh of relief. "Good, I thought I had gotten them completely wrong."
"No, they're spot on; you even added his pince-nez glasses and the chain to them." She was referring to the character Francis.
She found what she was looking for after flipping to her favourite page of all and finding the line, "Cubitum eamus." The Latin question was underlined with an arrow to a written comment that made her snort a little.
I had to Google that.
"So?" Xavier pressed on, unsure of what to make of what she thought. Sure, she liked it, but did she love it?
"I love it!" y/n exclaimed. "How did you even know how to do all this, and how did you know this is my favourite book?"
"I had some help with learning." He told.
"This is the sweetest gift ever."
Her grip on the book was gentle so as not to destroy it, and she wanted to be extra careful now that she knew the inside of it was adorned with his own personal thoughts and drawings he had made. y/n could feel her cheeks heat up, seeing the way he let out a breath of relief and smiled while looking down at the floor. His hair covered his crimson-coloured cheeks.
Before he could say anything, he felt a hand on his left cheek, followed by a kiss on his right. It stunned him, seeing her still holding the book with a sweet smile. Xaviers' eyes darted over her face to search for her reason for doing what she did.
He felt her hand leave his cheek and reach down to his own, taking a gentle hold of it. "Maybe we can do something when I'm back after the new year."
"You mean like a date?" His eyes widened, and a smirk formed on his lips as he closed his own hand over hers, the two of them now holding hands.
"If you want it to be one." Her tone was teasingly amusing.
"Don't put words in my mouth; you want it to be one, but you just didn't say it."
"But you were still the one who asked." y/n pointed out to him, a grin replacing her sweet smile. With a roll of his eyes, he answered her.
"Yeah, I'd like that."
Xavier enjoyed the wide smile that he could clearly see her fighting, loving the way she looked off to the side while swinging their interlocked hands back and forth between them. He followed her every move and never let his eyes move from hers.
Then as she let out a sigh, y/n looked up at him. "I need to go and pack; I haven't even started."
"Go," His hand loosened around hers, missing the warmth it provided, as he motioned with his head for her to go and do exactly that. He was feeling completely content with how this had gone.
Sliding her hand from his, she held the book in one of her hands while walking towards the staircase. Her heart and brain were racing marathons inside her, while the butterflies in her stomach refused to stop. Before she could get too far, however, she stopped.
"I hope you understand that this means I like you, more than friends." She was about eight steps up the stairs when she turned toward him.
"Do you think I'm stupid?" Xavier playfully asked.
"Well, you're not the smartest, Xav." She leaned against the railing while looking down at him from the staircase; he still stood in the middle of the room the Nightshades occupied.
"I like you too, more than a friend."
"Good to know; call me."
"I certainly will."
"Merry Christmas." With that, she walked up the stairs, book in hand, with a gleeful feeling inside. Was she going to scream into her pillow out of pure happiness? Yes. Was she also going to rant at Ophelia? Yes.
"Merry Christmas."

Sypnosis: Their friends notice a change in the two, or how they are with one another, something has changed and they have not been told.
Word Count: 4.2k
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Tumblr media
"There's something going on between those two; I can feel it." It was Enid who narrowed her eyes at the two who sat next to one another in class, doing their own work and occasionally talking.
"I agree." Ajax spoke quietly so as not to disturb the teacher or the other students who were working.
They were currently in class, Mrs. Thornhill's to be specific, and had work to do. They were supposed to write an essay about a seed that could cause hallucinations; it was quite fascinating, but most of the students didn't work and instead talked with one another because it was a group project with the person you sat beside.
Enid was with Ajax, and Wednesday, the Addmas girl had to join the two as she was sitting alone and couldn't do the work alone, according to Mrs. Thornhill, as it had to be a group project. They had gotten a fair amount of facts down on their essay, but Enid had been distracted; every time she could, she had glanced over at y/n and Xavier. The two had been sitting next to one another, so they got paired up and were working on it without any problems. They seemed to drift away from what they were supposed to do and began talking or joking around, or it was mostly Xavier who was joking around.
"I can't put my finger on what it is, but something is different." Enid was trying so hard to understand the change she felt was there.
"y/n will tell if there is anything important we need to know." Wednesday took a glance over at her sister; she too had noticed the change, but to her, it was none of her business.
"They seem closer." Ajax commented, and it caused the blond of the three to start vigorously nodding.
"Yes! And y/n seems to smile more, not all the time, but more than she usually does."
"Why am I even here?" Wednesday muttered to herself as she went back to the book where she could find more facts about the seed and write down notes.
"We should keep an eye on them."
Just as Enid said, she could see from where she was sitting that y/n were talking about something, and there was just something in the way he looked at her. Xaviers' eyes seemed to glint as he looked at her, his green eyes never averting as he focused all of his attention on her. She saw the way he raised his brows at something y/n said before saying something that earned him a deadpan look.
y/n shook her head at him before turning back to work, and Xavier held out his hands with an amused smile as he said something once more, this time earning a roll of the Addams girls' eyes before a tiny smile pulled at her lips. Enid watched the interaction unfold and found it all just a bit more intimate than their interactions were two weeks ago.
The way Xavier nudged y/n's side, causing her to jump and, in return, kick his leg under the table, was not something she would have allowed two weeks ago.
"What do you mean by that?" Ajax furrowed his brows and gave a confused face as Wednesday only sat and stared at her roommate.
"I mean that we should all just keep an eye on them and see if there's anything that can prove how they've changed." Enid spoke as if this was the smartest idea in the world, as if they could just not walk up to the two and ask them right there and then if there was something going on between them.
There was a bit of back and forth between Ajax and Enid on what to look out for as Wednesday only sat and listened. She knew her sister and also knew there was a change between Xavier and y/n, but she did not feel like really asking. However, the more she thought about it, the more she came to take note of the strange behaviour that her sisters had been displaying for the past few weeks.
She came back to the dorm late, she smiled a lot more than before, and the amount of time she spent with the boy was increasing. The reserved smiles for only him were something Wednesday had taken notice of too.
"Okay, so we all agree to see if there's something going on between them." Enid broke Wednesday out of her thinking, causing the blond to look at her expectantly.
"Sure." It was not as if Ajax had anything better to do.
"Do I have to be involved in this?" Wednesday looked between the two, and to be honest, Ajax was still a bit afraid of her, so he did not say anything, shooting Enid a look.
"Yes, she's your sister. And you know, I'm still surprised she's a year younger, got to skip a whole year, and is taller than you." Enid rambled on, and quickly the look in her friend's eye turned from a bored one to a glare that would kill if that had been her ability.
"Do you want me to carve out your eyes?" Wednesday posed a threatening question, blinking for the first time in a long time, tone calm.
"Yeah, yeah, now hush." Enid brushed off, flexing her claws for just a second before retracting them.
——
Unlike most of the time, there was no music playing—only the sound of pages being turned and the occasional chuckle or snort from Xavier. It was comfortable and calm, just the way they both liked it.
y/n let her eyes scan every page carefully, completely engulfed in the story as she could see it all play out inside her head. She could feel the atmosphere of the book and imagine every character as if she were a third person in the scene she was reading. Everything was like a mental movie that her imagination took care of, and all she had to do was follow the words on the page, and the movie would roll on.
All while she was busy focusing on that, she had her arm resting on Xaviers' head as he lay beside her and was looking at his phone. She had come to realise that resting her arm on his head while in this position could be her revenge for the way he would constantly and lovingly rest his arm on top of her head while standing beside her.
Not that Xavier minds, as he just finds the physical affection something he was not expecting in this relationship. Now, he had early on figured out that y/n was not completely opposed to physical affection; she would at times act as if she did not enjoy the random kisses on the cheek or crown of her head, especially if it was around people, but in reality, her insides melted. Xavier also found that kissing her forehead while holding her face in his hands, as he'd done that night, had her almost become a puddle of water; she loved it.
Anything that was not holding hands or just a quick peck on the cheek or forehead was not allowed around people. No matter how much he wanted to show her off to the whole world, happy to finally have her, Xavier respected the fact that she was not a big fan of public displays of affection, so that had been kept on the down low.
"Did you know your head is heavy?" y/n stated that as she turned the page, the weight of his head on her ribs made her have to adjust herself.
"I'd dumb myself down, but then we'd be morons. You need my brain," Xavier simply told her, leaning his head back slightly to look up at her from where he lay, only that she became upside down in his eyes.
"You are aware that I skipped a year, correct?" Her eyes never left the book.
"That doesn't make you smarter than me."
"I have better grades than you."
"Not in art." With a cocky tone, Xavier pointed out, causing Y/N to finally put down her book and gently shove his head out of her chest so she could breathe properly, but earning a sound of protest.
"It is quite hard to beat you in that, seeing as you were born to draw. Literally. Your ability would be useless if all you could draw was stick figures."
"Yeah well—" Xavier was cut off by a knock at the door. Both of them turned towards it as Xavier raised himself up on his elbow on the bed to look at it. When yet another knock was heard, he took it as a sign that it actually was someone.
With a sigh, Xavier stood and made his way over to the door, y/n picking up her book and continuing to read, becoming engulfed in the story. Opening the door, he was met with Ajax. "Do you have your homework?"
Not being able to say anything before the question left the gorgon's mouth caused Xavier to blink and not say anything. Moving to the side of his doorframe and holding up the door, she motioned for Ajax to go inside. Taking a quick glance around the hall to ensure that no other guys were present, as it was well known that having girls in their dorms was not permitted, and vice versa for the girls.
Ajax was quick inside, being all too familiar with the dormitory that was Xaviers. The only new thing about it was when there were new drawings or sketches added to the wall littered with them. But he froze, much like if he had been stoned, at the sight of y/n casually sitting on the bed. Her focus was clearly on the book in her hand, but she turned her head towards him.
"Ajax," was all she said while looking at him, not a smile on her face but just a calm and relaxed expression, not cold like Wednesday.
"Hey, when did you get here?" Ajax unfroze as he realised it was not the first time she was actually there. She had been there on a multitude of occasions, and the reason he froze was because he thought this was something he could report to Enid.
"A while ago."
"What did you need?" Xavier asked as he walked up and leaned against his desk, staring at Ajax.
"You've done the homework for seance class, right?" Ajax asked.
"Yeah,"
"He copied me." y/n chimed in, which caused both boys to turn towards her. Xavier picked up a pen and threw it at her. "You dare throw a pen at me and call me a moron? That's low."
"You need it or what?" Xavier turned back to Ajax as if he had just not thrown a pen at y/n. The gorgon quickly turned back towards him and nodded, but he appeared slightly distracted.
While the brunette of the two fumbled for his homework—which was actually copied from Y/N—Ajax continued to stare at y/n. To anyone else, she would seem completely normal—not all too happy, but not completely expressionless like her sister. She was dressed simply and not all that fancy, more focused on being comfortable, but there was one thing Ajax could not get over. The shirt she was wearing was one he recognized; it was not hers, as she'd never worn it before.
It was just a simple band tee that had been designed to look as if it had been worn a bit, judging by the print of the band's name. The shirt was clearly too big for her, with the sleeves ending at her elbows. He had seen it many times before, even before the two Addams sisters came to Nevermore, it was Xaviers. No one could tell him it was her own because Ajax had seen his friend wear that shirt on a multitude of occasions, so it was not unrecognisable.
"Here," Xavier said, turning with his hand outstretched towards Ajax, breaking his stare. Out of curiosity, Xavier looked between Ajax and y/n with a raised brow.
"Thanks, man, I appreciate it." Ajax thanked him, taking the paper and giving a tight-lipped smile.
"It should be me you're thanking; he only copied my homework." y/n once more brought up the fact that Xavier had copied her homework.
"I worded it differently than you." Stated Xavier.
"Still, you read from mine."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Xavier waved her off, earning a glare in return.
"Thank you, both of you," Ajax said as he walked out the door, knowing that he needed to tell Enid.
"Was it just more or was he acting strange?" Xavier asked while he made his way back to the bed. Picking up his phone, he laid down and moved so he lay with his head on y/n's chest once more.
"He was."
——
A day off from school meant that the students at Nevermore could do whatever they liked. They could leave school grounds and go into Jericho if they wanted to, or just stay at school and do whatever they liked. Most students chose the first option. It was actually a pretty nice day for that too.
Jericho had finally gotten some snow; there was just a thin layer that covered all the ground that went untouched by the citizens. Finally having entered December, it was fun to see the snow fall and know it would probably be there by Christmas.
There was a light fall of snow as Enid walked through the city all alone as Ajax had left with some of his guy friends, Wednesday stayed at Nevermore to work on her next novel, and y/n was supposed to be somewhere—somewhere Enid did not know. She was freezing from the cold winds and had sadly forgotten her snood in her dorm, which made her even colder.
Getting closer to the Weathervane she had decided that a cup of hot chocolate would make it all better, plus, searching for her friend was not really ideal with the cold. And yes, she had tried calling, but it all went to voicemail. Curse y/n for always leaving her phone on silent.
Just as she could spot the cafe in sight, something caught her eye. Two of the figures sitting inside were two she knew very well—Xavier Thorpe and y/n Addams. She squinted her eyes to see, seeing them both sit with a mug filled with what had to be a hot drink.
Inside the cafe, y/n had, for what was the third time in the past twenty minutes, refused to even take a sip of Xaviers' coffee. It did not matter that he drank it with sugar and milk in it; the bitter taste was one that she could easily gag on. y/n kept to the hot chocolate; it had become her absolute favourite to drink.
"Just try it," Xavier said as he pushed his coffee mug towards y/n, who returned it with a sharp glare before taking a sip of her chocolate.
"I'd rather let my sister feed me to spiders than drink coffee." y/n said while sipping her drink, narrowing her eyes at her boyfriend, who rolled his eyes at her.
"You do know Wednesday drink just plain black coffee, right? This is different." Xavier tried to once more push the cup towards her, but it was swiftly pushed back which elicited a chuckle from him as he could not get over how adorable she was. If he pushed it towards her, she would push it back without hesitation.
"It's only a sugar cube and there's very little milk in there; it will still be bitter, Xav."
"Okay, no coffee then." Xavier pulled back his cup of coffee and took a simple sip.
The chain that hung around her neck caught his attention, making him put down the mug. It was undoubtedly the necklace he'd given her; he had not seen her without it since he made Thing leave it on her bed while she was in his shed with him.
Without thinking, Xavier reached out across the table and grabbed a gentle hold of the necklace, causing y/n to turn her gaze towards him instead of the beautiful snow outside. He pulled it out so it wasn't hidden beneath her shirt and sat back once he could see it without being covered.
"Do you ever take it off?" Xavier asked and broke the silence that had been there momentarily. The question caused y/n to look down at the necklace and furrow her brows; in her face, clear confusion was evident when she turned her head back up to meet his eyes. Subconsciously, she grabbed hold of the necklace.
"No? Should I?" Her confused state made a chuckle come from Xavier as he shook his head at her.
"No, I was just wondering; I haven't seen you without it since you found it." He leaned forward a bit, his hand landing on hers, which caused a smile to pull at her lips; she did not meet his eyes.
Intertwining her fingers with his across the table, y/n shrugged and looked everywhere but at him. "I like it too much not to wear it."
Enid, who had stopped at the corner of one of the shops to look at the interaction, was internally awed by the two. Seeing their intertwined hands and just the faint smile on y/n's face gave her an even bigger reason to suspect they were together.
"Who are you spying on?" Bianca came up beside Enid, which caused her to let out a yelp and jump a little. The siren only raised her brow in a quiet question to her. Enid paused for a moment, unsure whether or not to tell Bianca of all people.
Finally coming to a decision, Enid moved aside for Bianca and pointed out the two who sat inside the cafe. At first, Bianca was unsure of what to look at before she spotted the two. After taking a glance over at Enid with questioning eyes, the werewolf only nodded as if to say she was looking at the correct thing.
"Is something going on between those two? Because it looks like it." Binaca stated with not a hint of jealousy or even anger but more of pure curiosity, which made Enid not know what to say next.
But at least someone else thought they looked oddly close.
——
They were lucky at Nevermore that the quad was protected by a spell, so all students could still spend their time there. It was a good place to study and have fun with friends. They didn't have to leave school to get some fresh air, and they could simply spend their time there.
Both Addams sisters had spent their entire free period there, both working on homework and writing on other assignments to make sure they kept up their good grades. Things either assisted them in turning the page and finding the one they required, or they simply stood there doing nothing.
The hand was currently moving between both sisters to make sure they were doing well, as if he could help with their schoolwork. When y/n pointed at the book for him, Thing helped her get it closer so she could see it and earned a low "thank you" from her.
"Was Enid going to join in, or is she too preoccupied with Ajax?" y/n asked without looking up from her textbook, Wednesday looking up before returning to her work.
"She said she would come, though I doubt she will."
"Hm," y/n hummed and did not notice the frenzy of gestures Thing did to tell her someone was behind her, and Wednesday did not notice either.
The sudden feeling of hands grasping her shoulder made y/n jump out of surprise and catch Wednesday's attention in the process, with Thing giving up and making his way up onto the older Addams sister's shoulder. y/n jerked her head around, only to be met with Xavier's amusing smile.
"Hello," He leaned down slightly, which made Wednesday narrow her eyes at him from where she sat opposite of y/n, but she quickly just rolled her eyes and turned back to work.
"What is it now, Xav?" y/n asked while also focusing back on homework, which caused Xavier to sit down on the empty spot beside her on the bench, leaning on his elbow.
"Just checking on what you're doing." He told me while scanning the papers splayed out on the bench before him and the books along with them.
"We're doing this week's schoolwork and assignments." Wednesday responded coldly from her side opposite the two, and Xavier nodded his head; he thought it was a wise move on their part.
They all went silent as the sister worked on something, but Xavier slowly moved closer to y/n out of curiosity for what she was working on. His brows furrowed as he watched her work and write down all she needed; without thinking, his arm had wrapped around her waist as he sat himself closer to her. The sudden closeness caused Wednesday to look up at them.
Though the display of affection usually grossed her out due to how their parents were with each other, she looked between the two and could see that there was definitely something there. Usually y/n would push anyone who was too close to comfort away from her, but she let Xavier invade her personal bubble as if it were nothing.
"Were you free later, by the way?" Xavier suddenly asked, and as an answer, he got a nod while y/n seemed to be jotting down something important for her assignment. Wednesday observed the smile on Xaviers' face and could also spot the small smile on y/ns lips.
Just as Xavier gave a quick kiss to her cheek, y/n turning to look at him, someone dropped their bag at the table. Xavier, who was half-standing at this point, turned to face who it was. Enid and Ajax.
Enids eyes were wide as she looked between the two, obviously having spotted the kiss Xavier had given y/n, but it was not as if they were hiding it.
"So I was right!" Her sudden exclamation of delight caused everyone in the quad to turn and look at them. Wednesday, in turn, urged Enid to sit down and divert attention away from her; Ajax stood by her side. This left Ajax, Enid, and Wednesday sitting on one side of the bench while y/n sat on the other and Xavier stood beside her.
"Right about what?" y/n asked as Xavier sat down once more beside her, subconsciously grabbing the girl's hand and intertwining their fingers.
"She means about the two of you being together or something." Ajax explained.
"Okay, so let's get this straight. Are you two together or just completely whipped for one another because I need to know now before I go crazy?" Enid asked all of her questions in one breath, her grip on the bench tightening as her claws extended slightly due to the rush she felt.
y/n and Xavier exchanged a puzzled look, then returned their gaze to their friends for a second. Now, to be fair, they had not outright told the three that they were a couple, but they had not exactly tried to hide it either. It was, however, y/n that answered for them.
"Well... yes? I thought—" She could not say more before Enid gasped loudly and Ajax gave Xavier a betrayed face. Wednesday just squinted at Xavier because she was protective of her younger sister.
"Bro?! You didn't tell me!" Ajax exclaimed in betrayal.
"I thought I wouldn't have to." That was all Xavier gave in return.
"And you never told me!" Enid also whined at her friend.
"Same reason here," y/n said, holding up one of her hands in defense, the other still intertwined with Xaviers.
"Does this mean you two will be like mother and father?" Wednesday's voice was, as always, not the most expressive, but y/n could detect the slightest bit of disgust from her sister.
"No." "Yes." y/n and Xavier answered at the same time. He knew what being like their parents meant on Wednesday, as y/n had told him about that. He got a glare for answering yes, as he knew that a public display of affection was not something y/n wanted. To her, she wanted it to be their own business and not anyone else's.
"If you hurt her, I will slit your throat and feed you to Pugsley's pet tarantella." Wednesday threatened, and this one, Xavier, was actually scared because he knew the older sister of the two was always true to her word.
"I appreciate it," y/n thanked her sister, as it was their way to show care for one another. Xavier pulled at her hand in protest.
"Wait, how long have you actually been hiding this from us now?"
Xavier and y/n shared a look at Enid's question.
Well shit.

I love your Xavier Thorpe writings! And I would love to request Xavier with a fem Delinquent reader where they never really got along or really saw eye to eye (opposite attract type of thing) until one day he finds her behind his art shed after getting into a fist fight with some students that were trash talking him and she admits her feelings and feels dumb for fighting due to not feeling good enough for him but needed to defend him.
Sorry if that’s a lot! And I hope it’s easy to understand!

"Are you done?" She stood herself up, awaiting an answer from the boy, who had rolled onto his back and stared up at her.
y/n breathed hard while keeping intense eye contact with the boy, Mateo, hoping that he would decide he had enough so she could leave. She had barely taken notice of her bruised knuckles or the scratches on them; not even the burning sensation on them made her break the stare she held with Mateo.
Mateo averted his eyes from hers and looked around at the crowd that had formed in the quad. Swallowing hard, his jaw hurt, and for a good reason, yet he clenched it hard. Reaching up and wiping away some blood under his nose, Mateo slowly sat himself up.
"Are you going to answer me or just sit there?" At the moment, the people around them were just blurry figures that she had no interest in caring about.
"What do you want me to say? I only told the truth, and you know it." His voice was smug as he looked up at her, keeping a hand under his nose and letting the blood simply run down onto it.
She was about to throw another punch at the boy when she was cut off by the sound of a teacher, the one thing she did not need right now. She knew it would be followed by being dragged to Weem, and she would simply tell y/n to sit down in one of the chairs. Every time it was the same. Every time she was asked what had made her do what she did, she would simply tell Weems that she got irritated.
It did, however, always seem as though the woman in charge at Nevermore knew there was a deeper reason for why she got into fights but never could figure out why.
Whirling her head around to see which direction the teacher, most likely Mrs. Thornhill, would come from, she realised just how many people were standing around. It had been stupid to pick a fight in the quad, but oh well, it was too late to change what had been done.
"You're fucked, l/n." Mateo sneered at her from where he still sat on the ground, earning a cold stare before y/n turned and finally saw where she could easily run away.
Swiftly, y/n turned towards where she could easily leave school and not be there when the teacher came, and without hesitation, she started to push past people in the crowd. Some of them did not care to let her through, but y/n were persistent in making her way out of there.
Right before she could get much further, she felt a very light tug on her arm, yet one that made her stop. "y/n."
It was Enid; her face carried worry as she looked at her friend, whose face was blue and purple, or at least on her cheek. The blond's brows were furrowed in panic, and her grip on y/n's wrist tightened just a little more as if to keep her there, an unasked question of why she had done it in the air.
"Let me go, Enid." She spoke sternly and tried to tug her arm back so she could leave easily; she did not want the lecture from Mrs. Thornhill now.
"y/n, what..?" Ajax's confused voice caused her to turn her head once more and find the gorgon there, along with him—Xavier Thorpe.
For a moment, her eyes stayed focused on Xavier, whose brows were furrowed. Why did he care? He was the one who declared them rivals when she first started at Nevermore. Yet she had somehow fallen for the idiot.
The crowd dispersed as she turned her head away, and people returned to their respective tasks. Mateo had his friends help him stand up, and she was currently glaring daggers her way; the blood from his nose had dried.
"Miss l/n." It was the booming voice of Mrs. Thornhill that made all four students turn their heads her way, as she had spotted them.
y/n's eyes widened as she quickly moved to pry Enid's strong hand off her. Luckily for her, the werewolf girl had let her hands around her wrists slack a little, which made it easy to get them off of her. Dashing for the exit into the woods, she did not look back, which cost her the chance to see Xavier look at her with a puzzled expression.
The only thing she could hear while running out of the school was Mrs. Thornhill calling out her name several times, as well as Enid shouting for her to come back, but to no avail.
——
The sky had given up on holding in the rain as it poured down, drenching her clothes where she sat. Her hair had become more and more damp as all she wore was her uniform with the school blazer on top. y/n could feel her feet grow cold from the wetness that had drenched them.
Her back hurt a bit from the roughness of the bark from the tree she was sitting against, staring at the old shed that, to her knowledge, was empty. She had to readjust herself to make her back hurt less, refusing to go back just yet because she enjoyed the time alone before being lectured.
For whatever reason, she could never understand herself. She had her reasons for every fight she got into, and this one with Mateo had been the first one for quite a while; the last one was in Jericho, and in that one too, she had a good reason for fighting. It was all stupid, really. Why did she have to have a soft spot for him in her heart when he clearly only saw her as competition, all because they were both able to do the same thing.
When something wet suddenly dripped from her nose, out of confusion, y/n brought her hand up to her nose to brush it off but was instead met by the sight of red being mixed with the light rain. The collar of her white shirt had a drop of red on it. So now her nose has decided to bleed—after about fifteen minutes since the fight ended. She could spot even more red drip from her nose and could not even care for it, just letting it mix with the water and drip down onto her shirt.
Just as she was about to sit back and close her eyes, the sound of footsteps not far from where she sat made her eyes snap open. Sitting up from where she was curled up by the tree, her eyes scanned the area.
When she found the source of the steps, his tall figure made it hard not to notice him (though y/n would occasionally tell Enid that he could easily melt into the background with trees because of his insane height). He was carrying an umbrella to shield himself from the rain, and without any question, he had spotted her.
She sat back down, sighing, because she didn't want to deal with a heart that beat faster just because he was there; it was very irritating. Every time a drop of water hit her face, she would blink
"What are you doing out here?" Xavier asked as he came up closer to her. Once he was close enough, he moved the umbrella a little so it would cover her already drenched form.
"Oh, you know, just enjoying the nice weather." Her tone was sarcastic as she just barely spared him a glance.
He took notice of the blood dripping from her nose and how it seemed like she did not give a single care for it, destroying her uniform. "You've got.."
Xavier motioned at his own nose as if to tell her her nose was bleeding. She pulled the same face as him, telling him that she knew very well about her nosebleed and was not completely dumb. It made him look around and feel inside his coat for something to help her keep from ruining her shirt even more than it already was.
Finding that he had nothing, and receiving a bored look from the girl as she just stared up at him, Xavier grabbed the keys in his pocket and moved to open the shed without saying anything. It made y/n knit her brows together at him, only hearing a door open and then seeing a small window far up towards the roof of the shed light up. This was confusing.
Only seconds later, he came out of the shed, umbrella still in hand, as he had gotten some tissues from inside. Without saying a word, he held it out to y/n who had stood up and leaned against the tree. She hesitated for a second—just a second—before she reached out and took it from him as gently as she could. She was not even going to ask why he had keys to the shed; it was not really important to her right now.
That was when Xavier noticed her knuckles; they were broken and slightly scratched, along with bruises from her violent punches. When he noticed himself staring at her hand, he took a quick glance up at her face before turning his gaze out into the woods.
"What was that all about?" He asked the question before adding a bit more to clarify. "In the quad."
"Why do you care?" y/n fired back, removing the bloody tissue from her nose for a split second while being covered by him, who was holding the umbrella for them both.
"Just wondering, you know, seeing as you almost always seem to have a fight with someone." Xavier simply shrugged his shoulders.
He cared about her more than he probably showed. When she first started, he didn't know what to say to her—what did you say to a beautiful new girl? Well, if your name was Xavier Thorpe, you did not say anything at first. Because it was not until he found out that that pretty girl had the same ability as himself that Xavier said something, and it was not what he should have said.
Being so unsure of what to say, for once in his life, Xavier only said that her art was okay but not as good as his own. That was when it all started; he did not know how to get her attention any other way now, slowly making them out to be rivals when it came to their art. It was the only way he could get her attention for a few minutes a day, as y/n would throw comebacks about his own art and sarcastic compliments at him like daggers. He enjoyed when her attention was directed at him.
"It's nothing." That was all he got for an answer before noticing how her body shook slightly from what he assumed was the cold and the fact she was completely soaked from the rain.
"There's got to be one reason at least as to why you were fighting him, and according to Enid, it has to be a very good one."
"Enid." The exasperation in her voice was clear as she finally removed the tissue from her nose once more and found that no more blood was running from her nose.
"So what was it about that you apparently have such a good reason to fight Mateo for?" There was a hint of amusement in the way Xavier said it, as he found her attention on him, looking up at him.
"He said something about someone." y/n swallowed hard at that, refusing to say more as she didn't want to say too much and then have her secret spilled, which would surely result in her pouring her immensely frustrated heart out right there and then.
"Who?"
Of course—this was Xavier Thorpe, which meant he would not let it go and would try and pressure her into saying something. A common tactic of his in the classroom was when she tried to hold her tongue from saying something too harsh, but his constant nagging would always result in her shooting him an irritated glare and making a comment his way. The only thing about that was that, no matter what harsh thing she said, Xavier would always sit back with a pleased look on his face, having gotten his daily attention from her.
Rather than giving him attitude, Y/N swallowed hard and pondered how to phrase it so she wouldn't have to say his name to his face—that the fight was because of him—because that was something she would never do. Finding a way to word it in her head, she let out a sigh before turning her gaze away from the tree she had been gazing at in the distance.
"Not that you need to know who it was about, but Mateo mentioned someone I care about... and me." His eyes never left hers at the confession that it had been about someone she cared for, but at the same time, his heart sank just a little in his chest. The way she added that Mateo too had said something about her showed him she did not want to tell him anything.
"You must care about them then, seeing as you're willing to get into a fight for them." Xavier stated, which earned him a scoff from the girl, it made his eyes immediately narrow at her quizzingly. "What?"
"I care about him, it's just that he's what Shakespeare would consider the idiot of idiot-worshippers."
Yes, that was how she felt about Xavier—he was the idiot of idiot worshippers. Everything about him screamed idiot to y/n and somehow she liked him even though he was a complete and total ass to her.
Xavier raised his brows at her statement. He nodded to show he listened and, for once, felt happy about the fact that she was talking to him. Even though he had yet to know who that guy was, he felt a bit of warmth in his chest over the fact that she was not glaring at him. It was his favourite, when she was a bit more relaxed.
It was only when he watched her from afar with her friends that he saw the real her. Instead of seeing her annoyed face, he would be able to see her laugh and smile brightly, much different from when she was around him. But Xavier knew that it was an asshole move he had pulled to get her attention at first, and even now, a year later, he was still doing the same only because that was what she expected from him nowadays, which was why y/n now was looking at him with suspicion in her eyes. No matter how much she liked him, no matter how much her heart would beat faster in his presence, the way he acted around her now was different than she was used to. He listened and did not have that hint of amusement in his eyes that he mostly had while commenting on something. It was a different Xavier that stood before her, the boy she would see hanging around with Ajax and some of the other boys.
"So who is he?" Xavier finally asked, breaking the silence, and his gazing at her plus y/n finally caused her to blink instead of squinting her eyes at him questioningly.
"Why should I tell you of all people?" She dabbed the tissue on her nose as the feeling of a little blood running down from her nose caught her attention, still looking up at him.
"What? Are you scared I'll make fun of you?"
"You can't; it's pretty much impossible."
"So tell me then." His voice was challenging, the same way it would be whenever he challenged her to do something competitive.
"You know what? I need to go and change before I get hypothermia." y/n quickly turned her eyes from his. "Plus, Weems is probably going to talk to me sooner or later, and I'd rather that be sooner."
"Come on—"
"I'll see you around, I guess." y/n mumbled as she moved past Xavier, her cold and damp clothes uncomfortable as she tried to walk away as fast as she could so as not to be stopped.
Xavier had turned around when she walked past him, about to say something but realising that it was not the time. He shut his mouth and just stood there, watching her walk past him. Slowly, she was becoming less and less visible, which made him unable to see her wipe away some tears of frustration.
Frustration because she did not know what she had done to make him so mean—it was the worst word she could use to describe him. Frustration because she was not supposed to like him when he was acting in such a way towards her, and y/n did not know how to ever express what she felt. Fighting or going at someone who said something about him was the only way she could somehow show she did care.
But he was a frustrating person, and Xavier was frustrated with himself because—why did he not just talk to her when he first met her.
——
Xavier had just finished schoolwork; there was a lot this week, which made him decide to just do it all at once so he would have it out of the way. Letting out a sigh of relief over the fact that that was done, he stood up, picking up his sketchbook along with a pen.
When he sat down and at first started off just sketching, his mind was clear as glass from any type of thought. He was just absentmindedly sketching away without even knowing what in the world he was going to sketch. In moments like this, he actually did appreciate having his own dorm; there was no one else there who would disturb his comfortable silence, so he just sat in his chair and sketched on.
Slowly, however, his thoughts began to wander, reminding him of the way y/n had looked at him. Her eyes had followed his every move, and when he moved his hand just a little, she let her eyes flicker down and then back up at him. She was certainly not afraid of making eye contact with him then, but even if she had followed everything he did, there had been a hint of frustration in her eyes.
And then his thoughts returned to a few hours earlier, when he had returned to school from his shed, seeing her walk with Enid Beby, who was fussing over her friend. It was such a rare sight for him to ever see her smile around himself that whenever she smiled along with her friends, he took it in to remember it. All he usually got were sarcastic smiles and smirks when she had done something sly.
The peace of the atmosphere in his dorm was quickly ruined—as were his thoughts of y/n—when two people came crashing into his dorm without announcing their arrival. Their sudden entry had caused Xavier to turn his head quickly and look at them with a puzzled face.
"Have the two of you just never heard of knocking?" Xavier asked Kent and Ajax as they stood by his door, taking a glance at each other.
"Of course we have," Ajax shrugged, turning and kicking the door shut so no one else in the boys dormitories could hear the conversation.Believe it or not, the boys at Nevermore lived as much for the gossip as the girls did; it was unavoidable.
"So?" He was not really in the mood for these two. Kent was truly an idiot, and Ajax too, but a bit smarter than the other boy.
"Oh my man, do we have news for you?" Kent told me while moving to sit on the bed that had been empty for all too long.
Xavier only raised his brows in question, sitting up a bit more as opposed to his previous position, where he had been pretty much just lying on his back on the bed while sketching. Most nights, or more like all nights, he would try and avoid most of the other guys, seeing as they would always run into each other's dorms to annoy one another. Hence why Xavier had asked to make use of the shed for his art it was a simple way to not have to deal with the other fools.
"You're going to want to sit down for this, though." Kent was quickly smacked on the arm by Ajax, who had a deadpan look on his face, because quite obviously Xavier was already sitting down.
Fools. Idiots. Morons. There really were at least forty words that Xavier knew he could use to describe the duo that was made up of two of his closest friends.
"Are you two going to tell me or what?" His patience with the two was fairly limited; therefore, he usually spent time with them separately.
"Yes, well, you know the fight in the quad erlier." It was not a question; it was just for Ajax to point out and make him know it was about that.
"Yeah,"
"But, do you know why l/n threw that first punch? I guess you don't." Kent said, slightly proud of himself for knowing something like this.
"She told me Mateo said something about someone she cares about." Xavier explained, yet his mind was still trying to make out who that could possibly be.
"She told you?" Ajax's mood suddenly dropped, as he for once thought he knew something the Thrope boy did not.
"Only that it had something to do with someone she cares about, not who."
"See! I told you." Kent exclaimed pointedly at Ajax.
"Yeah, yeah, fuck off. Anyway, I happened to ask one of Mateo's friends what happened and know who that person is."
Noticing he had gotten Xavier's attention, instead of a bored and tired expression on his face, he now seemed more attentive. It was not surprising that Ajax and Kent were aware of his crush on Y/N. "Well?"
"Apparently Mateo had said something about her not belonging here, but it was not until he added your name to it all that she swung. She got him good though, have to admit that."
"What?"
——
Walking down the stairs from the Edgar Allen Poe statue was not something he did often. One would think that being a member of a secret society like the Nightshades would make this more common, but it didn't. The reason it didn't happen very often was simple: he never saw the Nightshade Society's little secret place as something useful for himself. Of course Xavier would come if the rest of the group was required to come too, but he never really went alone.
From what he could hear, it sounded as if someone was shuffling about in the hideout, so Yoko was correct. Hopefully, it was you and not another Nightshade who chose to spend their late night down there.
Xavier had spent most of the night before lying awake and thinking through what Ajax and Kent had told him. y/n had thrown that first punch because something was said about him, not just for the heck of it. He had spent almost the entire day contemplating what to do about it all. In fact, he had been thinking about it so much that his little daily comments to the girl in front of him to get her attention had gone over his head. Not one single comment all day, that was how hard he'd been thinking.
The dark and eerie stairs got broken by the annoyed groan coming from whoever was down there, and Xavier could just barely make out a few mutters of curses that sounded like y/n. Then some more shuffling was heard before it got calm.
The last stretch of wall that would conceal who he was was approaching, so he took advantage of the opportunity to try to think of something to say, but his mind failed him, leaving him stuck without a way to ask that one question. He shook his head just slightly to pick himself up.
The sound of footsteps from the stairs made y/n look up from her spot on the floor just by all the books, and just as she did, Xavier came walking down. Her brows knitted together as she knew he never really spent time down there unless he was required to be there, much like all the others. She kept a finger on the page where she was in the book and just stared at him.
"What are you doing here?" Xavier just stepped down from the last step as she uttered her question, looking up at him from her place on the floor.
"I'm allowed to be here, remember." He tried to play it off as if this was not the first time he went there alone.
"I know that. You're just not usually one of those who spend their free time here; none of you others really do."
For some reason, the way he ran a hand through his hair to push it back made y/n have to bite her cheek. Hating that her heart would start racing in his presence even though how he acted, it was frustrating to over and over again have to tell herself that she should not like him.
"No, but I was told you'd be here." Xavier moved closer instead of standing just by the railing of the stairs, getting to the middle of the room, leaving plenty of space between them.
"By whom and why?" As she stood up, she closed the book that had been in her lap. He took notice of how her knuckles were still scraped and bruised (from what he could see with the limited lighting), and she also had a few bruises on her cheeks.
"I can give you three guesses." Xavier felt a little bold and took just a step closer.
"Yoko, correct?" It was a quick answer, which made him chuckle at the fact that she knew who it was without thinking too long about it.
"Yes,"
"Are you here to insult me or something like always, Xavier. Because if you are, I'm going." y/n's heart was racing as she tried to walk past the boy, but he quickly held out his hands to stop her.
"No, I wasn't going to."
"Yeah right," He stopped her from waddling past once more, letting out an exasperated sigh.
"Look, I just want to talk."
"That's a first."
It was, and Xavier knew it was—well,  not exactly the first time, as this would be the second, considering they truly talked for the first time just the day before.
"Who is that person that you care so much about?" Her entire face twisted at the question, not knowing why he was still stuck on it and having to try to avoid answering it.
"Why does it concern you?" Wait, had they gotten closer because the distance between them was only about nine feet—maybe ten feet? Just a few seconds ago, it was nineteen.
"Can't you just tell me?"
"Why should I do that when you take every chance you get to annoy me in any type of way." y/n shook her head at him. "Not even Enid knows, so why should I tell you."
"I just want to know, since you mentioned it."
If time travel had been a thing, y/n would go back to the day before and change her answer for why she had thrown that first punch. That way she would be able to preserve her heart and also not have to deal with the person who had sneakily made his way into it and, in her mind, probably didn't feel the same.
Xavier didn't let his soft gaze leave her form, giving all his undivided attention to her, and nothing was going to break it. He wanted her to say it was true that the person she cared so much about—so much that she would get into a fight for him—was him. He wanted what Mateo's friends had told Ajax to be true because it would allow him to make amends with her.Clear the air and actually tell the truth about his behaviour.
"Why does it matter to you?" y/n asked, frustration clear in her voice as she was stern with the way he asked. Even though her heart did cartwheels and her stomach filled with butterflies, she held eye contact with Xavier.
"Maybe because it involves me." His tone changed into a little more of an irritated one as he actually wanted an answer, this way he could probably get one. All it did was freeze her, making her stare up at him and tighten her grip on the book she had been holding the entire time. Slowly, her knuckles were turning white.
"Who even told you that? How do you even know that fight involved you?" She asked quizzingly.
"Ajax told me."
"And he was told by someone else, I presume?"
"Yeah."
"So then he actually doesn't know what happened, and you can just drop it, because honestly, it doesn't even matter." For a second, she thought that it would shut him up, but no.
"Who is it then that you're so keen on getting yourself hurt for?" Yet another step closer.
"Just leave me be, will you? You've done great at that before."
"Tell me what the fight was about! Did Ajax just make it all up that it involed me?" Xavier pointedly asked.
y/n had moved closer to get in his face, but it was hard seeing as he was as tall as he was. They were left with very little space between each other, and it gave Xavier a better look at y/n's beat-up face. He'd seen Mateo's face, which was worse, and the sight of how she looked made him swallow. It was the shine in her eyes that caught his attention and got him to take a step back.
"You." It was all she said, looking him straight in the eyes and saying so too.
"What?"
"You, okay? That was all about you." y/n moved back from standing so close to him and motioned with her arm as if to mean all that happened yesterday was about him.
Xavier just stared, finally getting an answer, but it took him aback so much that he had no idea what to say. "I–"
"Mateo said something about you... and me, which made me irritated. Honestly, how stupid are you?" She was speaking from pure frustration that had lasted quite a few months. "Why do you think that asshole Tyler and his friends left you alone? Why do you think I came back to school that same day all beat up?"
There was that. Xavier had always wondered who had passed her off that one day when the Nevermore students got to go to Jericho. It was the first time after Tyler and his friends destroyed his mural, he vividly remembered y/n coming back beat up but still standing. She never explained to anyone why she did what she did, but now he knew. She did it because of what happened to him; she beat them up for it because going to the school in Jericho meant she knew what utter shitheads Tyler and his friends were.
"Ehm—" Once more, he was unable to say anything about it all; too much was coming out at once, and he was still stuck on the fact that he was the one she cared so much for.
"Ever since I started, I've done nothing to you, and you just wanted to be all competitive and shite just because we can do the same thing. I never gave you shit, and to be honest, I probably care about you more than I should."
The more time passed, the more she rambled, and it all hit him, and just the tiniest smile started to tug at his lips while he watched her, his brows also furrowing. The slight shine in her eyes seemed to have been tears of frustration building up as y/n had discreetly reached up and wiped away one.
"I really, for some stupid reason, like you, and I honestly don't know what I've ever done—"
Xavier cut her off with a kiss, one that made her jump in surprise. He was almost afraid when she went stiff under him, but that worry was quickly washed away when her body slowly relaxed and she started kissing back. His hands lay comfortably at the base of her neck. Xavier was almost convinced it was a dream that he was kissing the girl he'd been chasing for a year, and she liked him back enough to kiss him back too.
They both pulled away, Xavier looking at y/n expectantly but earning a confused look. Her eyes were narrowed questioningly, her mouth slightly agape as she tried to come up with what to say.
"You know... if you had just said you liked my art that day, things would have been a lot easier." She did not look up at him, still trying to comprehend what just happened, her hands landing on his wrists as his hands still gently rested at the base of her neck.
"Trust me; I know that." Xavier chuckled at her puzzled face.
"Wait, you like me too?"
Idiots..

Xavier watched without looking away; he was always going to be amazed at her skill. y/n never lost to any of the other fencers. No matter how many times she fought against any of them or they against her, she was always able to win, and they were never able to win.
What had made y/n a bit special, however, was how kind she was about it all. No matter who her opponent was, she would compliment them and their skill, and anyone who dared to say anything negative about their fencing to her would be met with an immediate protest. She was gracious towards everyone, never wanting people to see her as above them.
Sometimes Xavier even thought she was a bit too gracious towards people who did not deserve her respect. He remembered a guy about two years back who, since having graduated from Nevermore, refused to salute y/n before their second round, all because she had won the first point. Not saluting your opponent is a sign of respect, no matter what your personal opinion of them as a person is, so that was a big no. Yet, when y/n had won and the older boy had bitterly thrown off his mask, she still gave a smile and said it was a good match.
So Xavier stood off to the side, saber in hand, as he just watched y/n and one of the other boys, Will, fence with one another. Their bout was soon over, but y/n was close to getting the fifteenth point before the time was up. Just one more touch, and she would win this.
To no surprise, y/n was able to get in a last touch before the nine minutes were up. As soon as she had touched Will's chest with the point of her saber, she stepped back and made sure to give the boy room.
"Well done, l/n." Coach praised her with a clap of his hands, and Xavier was also clapping at her.
"It was nothing," y/n said as she removed her mask. "You almost had me for a second."
"Almost." Will pointed out that he too had taken off his mask to reveal his face.
"Don't be like that; you were awesome." And there was that graciousness in her. She was all too kind towards people, but that was also one of the things that he liked about her.
As y/n started to converse with Will, Xavier could not help but glare a little. But he soon did not have to glare anymore as Bianca pulled y/n aside, giving her a bottle of water while they began to talk instead, and Will walked off, but not before shooting a questioning look at the taller boy.
It was actually surprising to Xavier that even Bianca did not have any grudges against y/n. It was such an odd duo that had occurred when they first started at Nevermore, and it was even more odd that the siren had never been irritated at the other girl; she was more impressed by her.
"Thorpe," the coach said, drawing Xavier's attention away from the two girls, one of whom was his ex and the other a longtime crush. "Wanna go for a bout? You've been standing around most of the time."
"Uh, yeah, sure."
"Good. L/n," the coach said as he approached the girl. "Care for another bout?"
"Of course," Her smile was bright as Bianca patted her shoulder, as if to say she would win.
"Well then, Mr. Thorpe, l/n, middle."
At the mention of Xaviers' last name, y/n turned your head towards him, eyes just slightly wide. She found that he was already looking at her before he shrugged and walked towards the middle of the strip, waiting for her to do the same.
But she just stood there, looking at Xavier, and her mind was running wild. She did have a weakness when it came to fencing, and it was one she did not want to say out loud to anyone, especially not to Bianca. Xavier had just, in some way, slithered his way into her heart and gotten comfortable there. She felt bad for liking him; honestly, he was Bianca's ex, and Bianca was her friend.
Before she could come back to reality and out of her own mind, Binaca had nudged her shoulder, which made y/n turn her head towards her. With a twinkle in her eyes, the siren motioned her head toward Xavier and the coach. The way y/n had just kind of frozen in place while staring at the brunette boy waiting for her made Bianca suspicious. There had been a few more instances like this, which also made her start putting two and two together, though she was not mad.
"Right," y/n mumbled, shaking her head and walking to the middle of the strip.
Standing up straight, y/n moved into position, standing about twelve feet from where Xavier stood on the strip. Taking a quick glance up at him instead of at one of the pillars behind him, she was met by a smirk as he brought his blade up to salute her. y/n quickly copied the salute, fighting the heat growing in her cheeks.
Putting on her mask, y/n tried to get into her mindset as always when she was fencing. Biting her cheek, she got into stance, waiting for the signal to start. All while y/n was fighting to stay focused, Xavier was preparing to lose. He did not have a problem with losing, not to her. He liked how happy she would get and the fact that she would interact with him, talking and being all cheery.
"Pret? Allez!" Coach signalled their start, and y/n had a touch at Xavier within seconds.
After resetting in the middle, they started for the next point. Just as usual, y/n was able to get in a few touches at first. Each time Xavier bit back his smile, knowing he would most likely lose, but it was entertaining to have her fuss about how she thought he was good.
The first period ended with her having five points, and, to his surprise, he had gotten in two touches, which earned him two points. y/n took off her mask and swallowed, going to grab her water bottle just as Bianca came up to her.
"What's going on?" The siren asked her, filled with confusion, as she took a big gulp of her water while peeping over at Xavier, who too looked over at her with a curious look.
"What do you mean?" She lowered the bottle from her lips with a puzzled expression.
"Girl, he has two points." Bianca states the obvious. "No one ever gets two points when facing you in the first period only."
"I don't know why it matters. Maybe I'm just not that good and he's catching up."
"Really? So there isn't any other possible reason, because you seem a little flustered."
"No!" y/n quickly exclaimed, eyes wide as she turned towards her friend before putting down her bottle of water.
She was not able to say anything else before the coach called her over for the second period of the bout. Her heart was racing as Xavier was eyeing her in a muddled way, not being able to connect the dots on why she seemed to have a hard time looking at him. Usually, she would not have a big problem with it.
Putting their masks on after saluting and going for the second period, her mind was running amok. The way the side of his mouth had tugged into a smirk before putting on his mask had her mind occupied, so occupied that she was shocked at the sudden feel of a touch to her body by Xaviers' sabr tip. Which also made Xavier more and more confused.
The next couple of points from the second period mostly went to Xavier, leaving him with seven points and y/n with eight. As soon as the second period was over, all the other students were watching them fence. Instead of going to get some water, she just stood and mentally cursed herself out. Fearing that she was making it obvious that he was a distraction.
She had not taken off her mask, so Xavier tapped her shoulder, which caused her to finally take it off, her heart speeding up as she turned to see him standing beside her. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yes. Why wouldn't I be?" She gave a tight-lipped smile, which was a bit uncharacteristic, seeing as the majority of her smiles were radiant and genuine.
"I was just wondering if I was improving or if you were letting me win." Xavier joked, which did cause the reaction he wanted—a bright smile followed by a laugh that broke onto her face.
"What if I was letting you win? Then what?" It was a way to play along and not show why she was actually not fencing her game.
"Oo, then I'd be disappointed." He told as the second minute break ended and it was time for the third and final period of the fight.
"Hm," y/n hummed as she put on her mask, her cheeks burning as a wide grin pulled across her face as she moved to stand in the middle for the final period.
This time, it was even between the two. Xavier was having a harder time getting in a touch than before, as y/n tried as hard as she could to keep herself concentrated. It worked a good while to imagine him as Binaca, who would, without hesitation, try and rile her up, so it would be a more intense match.
But it was becoming harder and harder as the three minutes of the last period slowly got to an end, with Xavier and y/n being equal in points, a shock to most of the other students who were watching intensely.
Before she could even register what was happening, Xavier got in a last touch right before the time ran out, making him the winner with the most points. As soon as she felt the touch of the saber, she stopped, breathing hard and whispering a low "dammit" for letting her mind slip.
"Thorpe, you win." Even the coach seemed surprised as he announced him as the winner. Lowering his saber, Xavier took off his mask, and his whole face was twisted up in confusion. His brows were furrowed, his eyes suspicious—no, they were worried.
"That was fantastic," y/n said as she removed her mask, worried that the heat in her cheeks would be visible.
"Yeah," was all Xavier could utter before y/n turned to walk over towards Bianca with a nod.
"You alright there, l/n?" The coach asked before she could get much further.
"Of course." She said it as if it were obvious, taking a quick look around to see the others who had been watching slowly move to get back to theirs.
"Okay, what is going on?" Bianca was quick to snatch her by her wrist, pulling her in close.
"Nothing."
"Oh, really, nothing? Because I think you have a little crush on Xavier." Scared that Bianca had said it so loudly, y/n swiftly covered her mouth, which made the siren let out a muffled sound of protest.
"No, I don't!" She whisper-yelled at her friend.
"Oh, please, the way you look at him, say something else. And every time you fence against him, he scores more points every time; he makes you flustered." Bianca took a piece of the terrified girl's hand from her mouth and kept her voice low so as not to alert anyone.
"No, no, no. I would never! He's your ex; I would never do that in my entire life." Her fearful tone made the other girl tilt her head. She cared that much about their friendship that she was afraid to even admit having a crush on Xavier.
"You think I'm mad?"
"Yes, why wouldn't—"
The sudden tap on her shoulder caused y/n to turn around; an amused smile was on Bianca's face. y/n's hands dropped from her friend's shoulder as she faced the taller boy, giving a small smile to conceal the fact that she had just been talking about him.
"I'm just gonna... yeah." Bianca pointed to the current bout going on on the second strip and slowly backed off, leaving the two alone.
"Is there anything?" y/n asked sweetly, internally swearing at herself for not just following Bianca.
"Ehm, yeah, I just..." Xavier paused, glancing over at Bianca, who was watching the two. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, like I said earlier, I'm just fine."
"You're fine, yet I beat you in fencing? It does not sound as if you're fine." His eyes watched her attentively, noticing every time she tried to start speaking but the words died on her tongue, and every time she would look off to the side.
"I was just.." Her eyes raised to meet his but quickly averted. "Distracted."
"Only distracted?" He moved slightly closer, gazing at her intensely
"Yep," Her cheeks were growing warmer with each passing minute as she heard him hum at her, suddenly feeling his hand brush against hers.
"You know, I was just wondering," Xavier started off, earning her attention. "Maybe you'd want to do something, sometime."
"As in just hang out, or as in a..." Her pause made Xavier chuckle a little and shake his head.
"Do you want it to be a date?"
The way she bit the inside of her cheek and completely avoided eye contact gave him the answer he needed, but he still also got a verbal answer. "Maybe."
"Sure, it's a date then."
"Okay, I'll see you then, Xavier." She slowly backed off, earning an amused look from the boy as he could clearly see she was flustered.
"Yeah."
As she turned for the third time, y/n got janked by the arm by Bianca. Pulling her friend close, the siren took a glance back at Xavier, who smiled to himself before going to fence against another of the students.
"So?" The siren asked.
"I have a date."
"Oh, you do?"
"Yeah, with your ex." There was a slight fear in her voice.
"Don't even worry about that girl."
"You sure?"
"Yeah. You got a date." Bianca mused.

They had been quiet for the past few minutes, just sitting in comfortable silence with one another. The floor was cold; even just the small bed would be more comfortable, but they had been sitting on the stone floor for about five minutes and had gotten comfortable. He had asked for them to just not talk, and she had given him that without any problem.
y/n could get in major trouble for being there, and they both knew that. No one is supposed to be in the cell of an accused murderer, but no one was going to know of her little visit. The guard might have gotten something to help him get into a very deep slumber where no sound would wake him. No, he was not dead. The guard was, actually, just in a very deep slumber.
It was all thanks to Mrs. Thornhill teaching their class about that little seed that could put anyone into a deep, ten-hour sleep. Luckily enough for y/n she had been listening to that lesson, and the information proved useful. The only tricky part had been getting the seed into the officers' drink.
It was very late. Curfew had long since passed at Nevermore, but y/n sat on the cell floor, one of his hands in hers, while the other traced a nameless shape onto the back of his hand. This was what he had requested while sitting in silence.
Xavier opened his eyes after having them closed for a while, looking at the chains that had been around his hands and then the collar thing around his neck. He was thankful for the girl beside him, as she had been able to get her hands on the key to them, and for the time she was going to spend with him, he did not have to feel restrained.
Glancing over at y/n, he could see she was just staring off into space while her hand absentmindedly drew the nameless shapes on his hand. Why she believed him and not her new friend, Wednesday, was beyond him. But when she had just about half an hour earlier appeared in his cell, pointing out how awfully lonely it must be, he felt his whole being warm up.
That was the effect she often had on him, but she was also an intriguing character in Nevermore. y/n didn't really mix with or join any of the cliques in school. At first, he had just observed her from a distance, watching as she would sit by herself and do schoolwork or just read a book.
The first time they ever really interacted was when they were about fifteen. Xavier was in the Nightshades' little secret place when all of a sudden, a confused "What the fuck?" was uttered. When he turned, there she stood, her face puzzled as she turned to look around.
The memory of y/n being so shocked at the secret space that she had involuntarily become invisible and had made him confused as to where she was always brought a smile to his face. But, looking back, what was even funnier was how she mistook him for rude and acting as if he didn't know where she was, because she had no idea she was completely invisible to him.
Even now, in his miserable place in the world, accused of being a monster who had killed people, the memory still made him smile slightly while watching y/n just staring off into space.
"By the way, you know the love of your life is Bianca—" Before y/n could even finish that sentence, Xavier leaned his head back with a groan of annoyance, causing the girl to snort at him.
"Don't call her that." He rolled his head over to face her, and she only shrugged.
"I didn't call her that; that's what your fifteen-year-old self called her." She teased him because she couldn't stop making fun of him for it.
"I'm never escaping that one, am I?"
"We'll see. Maybe you will, maybe you won't."
Xavier shook his head at y/n, now actually feeling like talking once they had started. "I can't really call that love now, can I?"
"Why not all of a sudden?"
"When you love someone, it's supposed to feel a certain way, and I don't think a fifteen-year-old really knows how that feels, you know?"
"No," y/n said, shaking her head. "I don't know."
Xavier sat up a bit straighter and turned his head towards her, tilting it quizzically at her, not understanding what she meant by that. "What do you mean no?"
"I mean no as in I don't know that feeling you're talking about; I've never felt it and probably never will." Confusing this with the fact that she was telling him she had never been in love and probably never would be, he felt he needed to tell her she would someday feel it.
"You will, someday." But he was only met with a laugh from y/n as she looked at him with a bit of shock. Did he truly not know what she had meant?
"No I won't. You seriously don't know?" y/n asked with raised brows while waiting for an answer, and all she got was silence.
It was not something she just said out loud, but her family had a history at Nevermore. Nobody knew how or why, but it felt like a family curse—at least that's how she perceived it. The lack of a heart that could determine what she was feeling towards someone was something she wanted badly. On her own, she could of course tell if she felt happiness, sadness, or anger, for example, but the one emotion she had a hard time with was love. Lacking a heart that could beat a little faster, flutter, or skip a beat when she liked someone made love hard.
It was all based on what she thought of a person. Most of her friends knew that she cared for them deeply. However, the line between when friendship became romantic feeling was so hazy that that territory remained unexplored.
"You know how everyone says their heart stops or flutters when they're near someone they like?" Yeah, Xavier knew that, as if his heart had not skipped a beat earlier when she suddenly appeared. "I won't feel that because my heart is quite literally dead."
"That's not possible." Xaviers' eyes were narrowed with suspicion, but y/n only held out her wrist for him.
"We got to a school with vampires, sirens, and werewolves, yet you say that not having a heart is impossible. Try me."
Hesitantly, Xavier grabbed her wrist, brows still knitted together in confusion as he felt for a pulse. The gentle way he was holding her wrist made a tingling sensation go up y/n's spine. At first he seemed to think it was just her trying to find her pulse, but when he felt for his own and found it easily, then felt the same place on y/n wrist, it started to dawn on him.
"Makes it a little difficult to know if you love someone," y/n said, turning back to look into space, her wrist still gently held by Xavier. That tingling sensation was still there when he held her wrist. "I don't even know if I'm in love now."
"How do you figure that out?" He was genuinely intrigued, but it was also a way to keep her there longer and not leave him on his own again, and he wanted to maybe get to know who she liked or thought she liked. But something in him told him that even if he wanted to believe she liked him, that little voice said otherwise.
"I don't know. I mean, I care about him, and he's good company." He did not notice the quick glance she threw at him from where she sat. But Xavier nodded along.
"And?" Maybe he could get some idea of who the guy was that she thought she liked. The small part of his heart that still believed he had her kept holding on for dear life.
"He's kind of charismatic."
"Kinda charismatic?"
"Okay, he's really charismatic. Like I really don't know, but something about him is just like... making me more happy than I usually feel." y/n turned, only to find that Xavier was already staring at her intently.
A short silence followed, with both of them just holding eye contact. She could not look away from him; even if he was not in the best of situations, he still wanted to listen to her explain the guy she thinks she likes, which was her describing him to himself. She liked his eyes; the green in them was something she found comforting. Honestly, she just liked everything about him, especially his personality and artistic sense. He was good-looking too.
"He's lucky; that sounds like love to me." Xavier averted his eyes from hers. The confirmation of what she had described as being love was all she needed.
"Then I hope he can forgive me for cursing him out the first time we ever really talked," Xavier blinked and turned to face y/n. That sounded familiar. "Because I really did not know I was invisible, and he couldn't see me."
Once more, Xavier got quiet and just stared at her. No, no, that could not be right, right? She liked him? Okay, this had to be a hallucination. He was going crazy. No way in hell did she actually like him back. His heart was racing, and he realised, by the look on y/n's face that said she was waiting for a reaction, that he had to say something.
"You like me?" And all of a sudden he was gloating; even though he was being held for being the hyde, she could still bring light to him.
"I guess so."
"You think I'm charismatic?"
"Don't let it feed your ego. I had been thinking of staying longer, but I promise I'll leave if you're going to be like that." y/n stood up quickly and gradually became less opaque. Xavier had grabbed her wrist and stood up before she could get any further away. The action caused y/n to become fully visible again.
"I was just kidding," There was a loving look in his eyes. "Stay, please. I don't want to be alone."
y/n moved and intertwined their hands, gently smiling up at him before bringing their hands up and giving his hand a kiss, earning a slight blush from Xavier. "Then I'll stay."

Sypnosis: This friends with benefits thing does not work. It was not what he had meant for it to become. ( SMUT )

Xavier got broken out of his mind by someone smacking his leg lightly. He saw who it was as he looked down from the ladder he was standing on, brush still in hand and airpods still in place with music playing. y/n was just walking past with Ajax by her side and smiled up at him while passing. He did the same before returning to the mural he was working on as his two friends walked out to sit in the courtyard, where all of the other students were.
At first, he did not think all that much about the interaction, once again completely focusing on his work while the song changed to another by the same artist. His mind was empty for a minute or so before something popped inside it. Wait a minute.
Had they been having their arms linked?
Turning away from the mural, his gaze was drawn to the courtyard, which was teeming with students, the majority of whom belonged to one of the five major cliques. Ajax sat with Y/N, slightly away from where he usually sat. The boy sat on top of one of the benches, talking to the girl as she sat where they were supposed to sit. But they were close—so close, closer than he had ever seen Ajax and y/n ever be.
His brow furrowed as he looked at the two. But it seemed as though Ajax had said something funny because y/n were laughing. The way she did it was the same as whenever they were alone, when he would surprisingly put his lips on hers and she'd be surprised. She would laugh lightly before reconnecting their lips, knowing what he wanted.
Or how she acted when she would pull away after a while, as if she was going to abandon him. She would act as if she was no longer into the kiss or something, but as soon as he would kiss her back, a laugh would escape from her before their lips connected again.
Had he missed that she would laugh like that when she was with other people, or was this the first time?
It felt as if just a crack, one singular crack, had appeared in his heart at seeing the interaction. Watching how y/n faked a pout at Ajax before chuckling, much like she did with him those nights when she would have to leave.
"Can't you just stay a little while longer?" He turned his head towards her, as she had just gotten dressed.
"Trust me, I would, your bed is much more comfortable than mine, but Mrs. Thornhill is going to flip on me." y/n stood, picking up her zip-up.
"Oh, come on, it's not like you haven't been able to sneak past her before."
"Yeah, until she caught me a few days ago and said I would get extra homework if it happened again." She looked down at him, picking up the phone that laid on the bed beside him. Curfew was in a few minutes.
"You'll be back in time in just a few minutes." He had been able to grab hold of her wrist. Pulling her towards the bed, his eyes begged for her to stay a few more minutes.
"Aw, you want me to stay?" y/n faked a pout at him before chuckling, causing Xavier to roll his eyes at her and let go of her wrist.
"So you're just going to leave me here?" His tone was playful.
"Yes." y/n grabbed her shoes while walking towards the door. "And I'm going to do homework because, thanks to you, my original plans were ruined."
"Stop acting like you don't enjoy it."
It was all just so stupid. They were this thing—what most would call friends with benefits—only because he chickened out at the last minute. All because once he had taken the shot and kissed her, she had been confused and asked him what that was for. And now here they were, in this thing where they were still just friends.
All because his heart got caught in his throat as he was about to ask the question aloud, and it came out as a question asking if they could have this thing instead. They were friends, but they kissed; they had sex because they knew each other and knew they could get the pleasure they desired. Only that, at least, Xavier wanted more.
For him, it was not just the kisses, makeouts, or sex that he wanted from her. But he was also content to have that with her if it didn't lead anywhere else. He wanted more. Though the kisses, makeouts, and sex were good, there were other parts of it that he wanted more often.
He wanted to be able to just have her rest there beside him, sound asleep and content where she was. All while he could run his fingers along her spine, laying next to her and watching as, even through sleep, her lips would pull into a smile at the contact. It had only happened a few times in the previous months, and he had enjoyed it each time.
He wanted to be able to press kisses to her forehead, nose, cheek, crown of her head, or even just her lips outside of any of their dorms. He wanted to be able to show the world what they had and how happy he was. Xavier didn't want that to stay behind closed doors. He also wanted her to know that every kiss, every compliment, and every time he looked at her was real. It wasn't just a spur of the moment decision or him needing something.
He thought he knew love when he was with Bianca for a while, but it turned out he really never knew how love felt. He'd never felt his heart flutter so much just by being close to someone.
He just wanted it to be different.
With the way she was laughing with Ajax, their conversation going back and forth as he watched made his jaw tighten, turning away from the sight with his lips pressed together tightly. Trying to go back to his mural and telling himself that y/n and Ajax were just friends.
But no matter how much he tried to tell himself otherwise, it seemed as if there was no way to convince his brain that was not the case. Jealousy was bubbling inside of him.
——
It has not been hard to know that there is something wrong with Xavier. The whole time that y/n had Bern in his dorm, he was quiet. Even though he had schoolwork, he would try to strike up a conversation with her most of the time. But today he had not said anything; really, all he said was "hello" when she came and knocked on his door, making sure no one would see her enter so that they could study.
Their agreement, when it came to things, had been simple. They could come to one another when one needed some release, but of course the other had to be there with it too, and things were not to get awkward between them, which had worked great as they still hung out as normal, and it was at least twice a week that one or the other would need something more.
They never felt awkward when they were together, happy that they still remained close no matter what they were doing. Well, it had worked up until now, apparently.
y/n had just finished writing on an essay, letting out a sigh, and laying her head down on Xavier's bed, then pushing herself to sit up after lying on her stomach for so long. Still, no word had come from Xaviers' mouth as he just sat by the head of his bed, being long done with homework, he had started sketching out of boredom.
She turned around, gathering up her books and computer to put them on the floor before moving to sit beside him at the head of his bed. He glanced at her before turning his eyes back to the sketch, not acknowledging her.
"Is something wrong?" She moved her head to look up at him from the sketch while asking and waiting for an answer.
"No." Xavier shrugged his shoulders at her, unconsciously becoming more hard on the hand as he drew away.
"There's got to be something wrong, you haven't said a single thing for the last hour." y/n pointed this out to him, which made him stop and shake his head.
"It's nothing."
For a moment, she contemplated just stopping asking him what was wrong, seeing as he refused to give her an answer and clearly was in a bad mood. But as she thought a bit more, just laying there beside him and looking up at his face, she could see the slightest bit of hurt in his eyes. This caused y/n to furrow her brows at the green-eyed boy.
"Stop lying. Have I done something?" Her question made him drop his pen, shaking his head, just wanting her to drop it all.
"Why does it matter so much?" Finally he looked down at her, but almost as soon as his eyes met her, he averted them. Why didn't he just ask that question once and everything would be fine?
"Because you're clearly ignoring me, and it makes me worry."
Finally, the last bit of water was filled in the cup as it suddenly flowed over the edge. He slammed his sketchbook shut, hard. It made y/n jump slightly where she lay on his bed. Standing up, he turned. "Maybe you should worry about your fucking boyfriend instead."
She sat up because of the words. Her eyes widening just slightly, her mouth agape, she stared at him. Trying to get out any words, but instead they all just died on her tongue and made her sit there, staring at him for a while while he stared back before scoffing and running a hand through his hair.
"What?" Her eyes were no longer wide, but her brows were furrowed in confusion at him, and it was the only thing she could say.
"You know, that boyfriend of yours you forgot to tell me about that you spent lunch with?" His voice was sarcastic, but inside he felt his stomach turn with jealousy.
It took a good moment to understand. Boyfriend? y/n didn't have a boyfriend. Was he stupid? Had she not made her feelings clear lately? Had those quick kisses on the cheek or forehead before she would leave after sex not been enough? Did he truly think she was only in this for the sex and makeouts? How stupid could a person be?
"Ajax." It was not a question but a try on her part to see how he would react to her saying his name. That had to be who he meant; Ajax and her had spent the entire lunch hour together.
She did get a reaction. He rolled his eyes, looking off to the side while letting out an exasperated sigh. This caused y/n to stand up, eyes wide, just like before, looking at him in disbelief. How in the holy hell did he ever get that idea into his head?
"You think I'm with Ajax?" She slowly started to walk around his bed to the side he was on, studying him for any reaction that would come. Again, all she got was an exasperated sigh.
"Were you planning on just not telling me and keeping leading me on or what?" That last part made Xavier bite his tongue, realising he had just exposed himself by dropping his flailing arm to his side.
"You... you think I'm sleeping with Ajax and that I would just not tell you I was?" She had moved even closer, now standing just about six feet from him.
Xavier did not give her an answer, sitting down on the edge of his bed and only staring at her. He had a hard time looking into her eyes, which hurt, like, actually hurt, that he couldn't even do that.
"You really think I would do that?" Instead of being irritated, her voice was soft. Xavier appeared to have had a realisation because he looked off to the side, slightly embarrassed, and shrugged.
"I was helping him with how to ask Enid out." Finally, the blonde-brunette boy picked his head up, brows knitted together. "Ajax has a crush on Enid, and she likes him too. He wanted help with how to approach her and just stuff like that."
"Oh," He breathed.
"Oh," y/n repeated, moving a little closer again. "Do you think I only agreed to this because it meant I would get sex?"
She motioned between the two of them when saying this; neither of them liked to call it "friends with benefits," as they had both, this whole time, had feelings for one another. Because they both wanted it to be more than it actually was.
There was no answer, so she stepped a bit closer, now standing right in front of where he sat on the bed. It had become such an instinct for Xavier to put his hands on her hips when she stood in front of him like that that he did not think for a moment before doing so. But he still did not look at her, which made her sigh a little.
Leaning in, she connected their lips as she had so many times before, only that this time it meant something much more. It took him by surprise, but he gradually melted into it, his arms looping around her waist and pulling her in closer. Xavier could feel her smile against his lips and her arms around his neck, as he had so many times before.
"Do you really think I would agree to this if I didn't love you?" y/n pulled away for just a second; seeing his eyes lit up made a smile pull at her lips.
"How would I know?" His question came out more as a little joke, with his brows raised in a joking manner.
"Shut up,"
With that, she leaned in, attaching her lips to his jaw. The boy hummed in contentment, leaning his head to the side, and closing his eyes as he felt the familiar sensation. This time, unlike the many times over the past two—maybe three—months, it felt different. It felt more intimate now that he knew she did not have her eyes on anyone else and that she wanted more than what they had.
Slowly pulling away from him, y/n stood back up, his arms still around her waist. In his eyes, she could see that look that he had when he first kissed her. The night when it had happened, instead of confessing, he asked for the whole "friends with benefits" thing.
Their lips met, and without warning Xavier leaned back, pulling y/n with him as he fell back onto the bed. His hands moved from her hips up underneath the shirt she was wearing, feeling her soft skin and running his hands up and down her sides, then slowly moving his hands up and letting them rest right beneath where her bra started. Just keeping a gentle hold of her there.
Pulling away once more, y/n sat up a little, straddling his hips, and her hands lifted the end of his shirt. Xaviers' lips were drawn into a soft smile, his eyes roaming her body shamelessly. "What?"
"I'm just.. taking my time." She explained as he sat up, helping her take his shirt off.
y/n found it difficult not to be flustered once his t-shirt was removed, as she leaned against his bare shoulder, arms around Xaviers neck. Taking this as his chance, Xavier attached his lips to her neck.
Hums, whimpers, and other means of pleasure came from both of them as they switched who was doing what, slowly ending up fully on the bed. Going from him being on top to her being on top, neither of them were in a hurry for anything. Wanting to take their time. Then her shirt went off, and Xavier took his sweet time watching her body, more than he ever had before. It was almost as if he was trying to remember every detail of her—something he had previously considered unacceptable.
It was her turn to be on top now. Her hands tangled in his hair as she deepened their kiss, her legs straddling his lap as his hands affectionately ran up and down her sides. It was now one of his favourites.
It seemed she did not notice it, but slowly she began moving her hips around, trying to get comfortable. Xavier slowly separated his lips from hers, leaning back and groaning at the sensation her movement gave him.
"Stop," He breathed, holding her hips still.
"Something wrong?" Her brows furrowed, scared she'd done something wrong, even if they had done this a multitude of times over the past months.
"No, no. Just... uh, fuck."
Finally, he was done taking his time. He needed her now. He needed to finally get to doing this with her, knowing she was totally into him too. Taking her by surprise as he moved forward, she fell down on the mattress with him above her.
It all then happened so fast—both beings were stripped of their clothes while just staring at one another. This really was different than all the other times they had sex. Truly, this was so much more intimate now that they knew how each other felt.
"You okay?" Xavier asked before doing anything, and her half-lidded eyes and nod told him all he needed.
Her hands reached up to grab his shoulders, the desperate feeling in her stomach finally satisfied as Xavier gave her the pleasure she craved. For a moment, they just stopped to take in the feeling.
Then, with each movement, either one or both of them let out a light moan of pleasure, a groan, or a slightly shaky breath. Their requirements are being met. She drew him closer, clutching him with each of his moments as she revelled in the pleasure he could give her. He knew exactly what pace to maintain; she didn't need to tell him how she wanted it because he had learned and focused on both of them.
The knot in her stomach gradually untied, and her grip on Xavier's shoulder tightened as she felt him push himself to his limit, which came not long after her. He sighed loudly as he relaxed before lying down on top of the girl.
They finally got their breathing back to normal after some silence."You're really daft, you know that right."
"Are we really going to do this now?" Xavier leaned on his elbow after having just rested his head on y/n's shoulder.
"You were jealous," Her voice sang out the words, making his eyes roll.
"So, you're mine now anyway, right?"
"Always has, and you're the only one I want."

The crunching sounds of footsteps in the snow broke the eerie silence of the woods around Nevermore. However, no matter how much he wanted to move, he couldn't, and it was as if he were just invisible and could somehow see all that happened but could not move a single inch. The steps grew closer, and the sound of someone muttering incoherent things was vivid.
The figure walked past his nonexistent self in this dream. The figure was clearly frostbitten from the cold that was there, seeing as it was snowing outside. Whoever the figure was, it tried to keep warm; the hood of a hoodie that covered its face and the jacket gave off that impression. When the figure was about six feet in front of him, he began to move, following whoever had just passed through his dreams.
But it was the voice that gave away who it was. Even though her teeth were clattering from the cold and her whole body shook, missing the warmth of her dorm, he could still make out who she was. "You just had to tell me to come out here tonight, didn't you, Thorpe?"
Her muttering and cursing him for his bad timing was nothing new. y/n had over the years of knowing Xavier often had him come to her and just last minute ask for things. That could be anything from a pencil right before class to sneaking into her dorm and asking if she wanted to go to his shed with him at around eleven o'clock. But every time, she would always feel obligated to actually go with him or help him with things. Seeing as he would become a bit sour if she didn't.
But as she walked through the woods, she made sure to not trip and fall; that would be embarrassing. She did not fear anything in the woods; even though there was that thing running around killing people, it just did not really make her feel scared. She had gone to Nevermore long enough to just feel that that thing, the hyde, as Wednesday said its name was, would just not go onto the school's property. Given that the majority of murders occurred in Jericho and not elsewhere.
Then something made him stop—the sound of someone or something walking. She froze in place and listened, trying to see if she could hear anything—breathing, footsteps—just anything. But when there was no more sound, she only shook her head and continued walking.
She got closer and closer to his shed. Thank you to whoever invented hoodies, jackets, handwarmers, and any other form of warm clothing. Without it, she knew she'd be a human popsicle before she even got to Xaviers' shed. But it was yet another set of footsteps once more that made her turn, brows knitted together in confusion and slight fear.
She looked around the forest. In front of her, nothing; behind her, nothing except the shed, which was a good bit from where she was; nothing on the right side. On the left side, there is also nothing. "I swear to God, Xavier, if that's you, I'm going to get Wednesday to kill you, and she will enjoy it!"
She waited just a moment more to see if her words would make him walk out and reveal himself, with that stupid smirk on his face and chuckling at her, telling her she was just messing with her. But no, he did not walk out because he was not there, except he was there but not physically.
This time, when y/n turned back to start walking, she had a concerned look on her face. Perhaps she misjudged the hyde; perhaps it was present. Her face turned up with a hint of fear as she started walking towards the shed that was out of her line of sight and all she focused on. Even though more steps seemed to come closer, she did not turn. She hoped, prayed to any god she could think of, that it was just Xavier and she could hit him for scaring her.
Due to the cold, her hands shook as she reached the shed and saw that no light was on inside. Waking up towards the door, she let out a groan. Xavier couldn't be there because the door was locked.Had he forgotten? No, he would never. And there was no way he was inside, seeing as he was no ghost, so going through walls was sort of out of the question.
"Goddammit," y/n cursed again, hitting her head on the door. With a glance around, seeing as the woods now felt even more eerie than before, she hesitantly took her phone out of her inner pocket.
Turning it on, y/n immediately went into contacts, scrolling and then clicking on his name. Putting it to her ear, she waited. One beep, two beeps, three beeps, four beeps, five beeps, no answer. The fear in her body made her not even think of trying his number once more, and instead she clicked off the call.
Going back to her contacts, she had to think for just a second before it hit her. Scrolling as far up as she could, she clicked on the second-best option: Ajax.
"Come on, come one." It was anxiety-inducing just to wait for him to pick up, but luckily, Ajax always answered.
"Yeah?" His voice made her sigh out of happiness to have reached one of them.
"Hey, Ajax, it's me."
"Oh," he said, slightly surprised. "Is there anything I could do for you? I mean, it is kind of late."
"Yeah, ehm, me and Xavier were supposed to meet up, and he hasn't shown up. I was just wondering if you knew where he was?"
There was a pause on the other side of the phone. "Last I saw him, he was going to our dorm to get his jacket. He said he was going out. Now I know why."
"Okay, Ajax, don't. How long ago was this anyways?"
"Shit, I don't know, but you know he's probably on his way right now; don't worry."
"Yeah. Yeah, you're right, thank you; it's just a tad, ehm." y/n trailed off looking around. "A little spooky out here alone."
"Well don't worry, I'm sure he'll show up soon."
"Mhm, thanks,"
"No problem,"
With that, the call ended.
So she waited a bit more. She was walking back and forth in front of the shed, just waiting for him to suddenly be there and let her inside. But time went slowly, and suddenly five minutes had turned into twenty, making her more and more impatient.
Just as y/n was about to walk back to school, sure as hell done with this and not caring if it was after curfew, she was going to mutilate Xavier, but she was stopped. Heavy footsteps sounded behind her, making her turn quickly, only to find emptiness. Then, yet again, a branch broke under pressure (which was not hers).
Then heavy breathing and footsteps were right behind her; she now stood with her face towards the shed. The breathing was very loud and strong; she could feel whatever it was breathing out, clearly not human. She closed her eyes, let out a shaken breath to calm herself, y/n then slowly turned, only to be faced with that.
The same thing that had occupied Xaviers' dreams for the past months, the hyde stood right before her.
The sound of a door slamming shut was what woke him up. Jolting upright at the sound, his mind was still foggy while looking around. Getting used to the light of the fully lit dorm took some time, but slowly his eyes adjusted.
Turning his head to the door into the dorm, Xavier came face to face with Ajax, who had stopped dead in his tracks. His mind still not completely clear, he rubbed his face and ran a hand through his hair, then turned back to his new dorm mate.
"Jeez, did your soul enter your body again? 'Cause that's what it looked like." Ajax remarked as he made his way to his bed, which had previously been Rowans'. The gorgon had moved in not soon after Rowan disappeared; it was to "make sure there were dorms in case of new students."
"Feels like it." Xavier looked around, still extremely confused at both the dream and all. It felt like he had forgotten something.
Looking around, he found that it was dark outside; the clock on his nightstand said ten thirty. His coat was almost falling off his bed, where it was not supposed to be, and his phone, well, he realised how uncomfortable he was and found it lying underneath him.
He could not, for the life of him, comprehend all of this. What was he even doing before falling asleep, because it seemed he was going to do something.
"I thought you wouldn't be back for at least another hour." Ajax said casually while sprawled out on his bed, looking at his phone.
"What?"
"I thought you and y/n would be away doing whatever you were meeting up to be doing for longer; it seems as though I was wrong." Ajax chuckled at himself but turned when Xavier was too quiet for his liking.
"How do you know that?"
"y/n called about an hour or two ago to ask where you were."
That was what he had forgotten; they were supposed to meet up at his shed. Just a little before nine o'clock was their decided time, and even though it was a Saturday, they still had the same curfew as any other day.
I will make what could be a long story short. Xavier had been with some of the other guys in one of their dorms to waste time, then when the clock was slowly dragging towards nine, he had gone off. He was only telling Ajax that he would be late and would be leaving.Once he had reached his dorm, for some strange reason, he had just sat down and laid back for a moment on his bed. But as he got more comfortable, his plans slipped his mind, and slowly he was pulled into dreamland. Only it did not feel like that was a dream now.
"You okay there, man?" Ajax sat up when Xavier suddenly stood up, grabbing his phone and coat, just in case.
"Just wait here," he said before going out into the hallway. He didn't care about waking up the rest of the students, or the teachers, because he might have made a critical mistake by accident.
The sounds of his quick pace did cause quite a few of the students inside their dorms to wake up, but none walked out to see what was going on. He luckily got to the girls' dorms with no problem. The darkness made it a bit hard to see, but he had learned where her dormitory was.
Knocking on the door was awkward because it would sure wake up people in the dorms around, and he would have to talk to y/n's roommate.
There was some shuffling before the door opened, and there stood an exhausted Ophilia, but the light inside was still on. "Is y/n there?"
He did not care for formalities right now and could see that there was a look of concern on Ophilia's face, yet she was also tired, as if she had been waiting.
"No, she said she was going out to meet with you." Ophilia told. "Why? Has anything happened?"
Glancing inside the dorm, he could see the clearly empty bed that had not been touched in hours. The expression on his face told Ophilia that something was clearly wrong. Why was he there and not y/n?
"Go wake Weems,"
"And do what?" Ophilia was not happy with only being told that. "Where's y/n if you're here and she's not?"
Xaviers' face said it all as he started to work on getting his coat on. The girl's face went pale, and her eyes widened as Xavier slowly started to make his way back towards his dorm, but not before turning back and saying one last thing to Ophilia:
"Go, tell Weems y/n never returned."
She did not get any tike to reply before Xavier was already heading back to his dorm. Trying to be as quick as he could without waking everyone in Nevermore, he had to pick up the pace now that he knew she wasn't in her dorm.
Opening up the door into the dorm, he found that it was still fully lit, and he was happy that the guys' dorm dad was not as strict as Mrs. Thornhill. Inside, Ajax sat at the edge of his bed, waiting patiently, as he had been told to do just minutes earlier. He stood up and saw the distressed look on Xavier's face.
"You're coming with me."
Ajax and Xavier shade made certain to thoroughly scavenge the woods, walking the same path that y/n had in his dream, to his shed.It was all just like in his dream, or nightmare, and snow was still falling. The sky was clear of any clouds, so the stars could be seen. To think they were just burning balls of gas from millions of light-years away.
They had their phones in hand and flashlights on to make sure they would spot y/n if she was anywhere where the naked eye would not see her. The more time that passed, the more his anxiety rose. His stomach twisted in worry.
What if she had died? What if his dreams had spared him her gruesome death? Would her body be just one of many victims? Did she feel alone when dying?
His mind raced with what-if scenarios. It was hard to concentrate on the path before him. The snow had been falling so heavily that no marks were left on the ground that could indicate where y/n had gone or if the hyde was lurking about in the shadows, waiting to pounce.
Finally reaching the shed, they both looked around in different directions to try and see if they could find anything. But there was no sign of anyone. The whole time, both boys stayed silent, and Ajax, who could at times muster up some jokes, knew that now wasn't the time for them.
"How about we each take a direction, but stay close enough to see the others' lights?" Ajax turned his head toward his friend. He did not ask how Xavier knew where to look; that was something he could ask later, but y/n could not wait if she was out there.
"Yeah, sure." Both departed in a different direction, keeping the shed as a center.
Xavier kept a close eye on every nook and cranny that his flash lit up, making sure that he did not miss anything. He was not just going to walk right past her if she was out there. No way. She would never have been alone if he had simply put on his coat and left. If she had someone with her, she would not have been alone in the eerie woods this late at night with a hyde stroking around.
As he happened to step on a branch, the sound of something rustling far away made him whip his whole body towards the sound. He remained silent while shining his light in that direction. If he just strained his ears enough, he could hear it—the sound of someone quietly praying for their life to be kept intact.
"y/n?" The quiet mutters quickly stopped as soon as he called out; a bit more rustling came from behind a bigger tree.
Slowly, very slowly, Xavier made his way towards the tree. Again, he slowly rounded the tree and found that the rustling was not from an animal but from y/n. There she sat, her whole body shaking from what had to be both the cold and fright, lightly rocking herself back and forth while keeping her head down in an attempt to keep herself safe and secure.
Dropping his phone to the ground and not caring for it as the light shone right up into the sky (his dad could buy a new one), he crouched down. Slowly getting to the same level as her, the sound of his phone hitting the ground made her body flinch a little.
"y/n," His voice was soft as he reached out and just barely touched her, but she immediately started fighting against him.
y/n yelled at him to leave her alone, hitting his hands away as he tried to grab her and drag her back into reality. Her adrenaline was clearly running high, as she did not seem to know it was him and not the hyde.
"Leave me be!" Her voice came out hoarse as she yelled, or tried to.
"Hey, hey!" Finally, after a bit of struggling, Xavier got a hold of her wrists. She tried to free herself, but clearly her body was too weak to fight hard enough. "It's me. It's me."
Never in his life would he believe that those two words, "It's me," would ever be able to make someone so full of fright and adrenaline to finally stop, which y/n did. Her entire body ceased fighting, her wrists slaking in his grip. Her breathing was laboured as she blinked and looked around for a split second before returning her gaze to him.
"Xavier?" It was a question to just confirm that she had not gone mad during her two hours of running and hiding from that creature, and she was answered.
"Yeah," Xavier said, nodding with a small smile on his face. His eyes scanned her face: a bruise on her left cheek, a busted lip, and a scrape on the right side of her forehead.
"I was just going to go back, and suddenly it was just there..." y/n choked out while gripping his arms as if to ground herself and make sure she was safe.
"Hey, it's fine," Xavier said, shaking his head as he didn't need to be told. He lightly pulled her a little closer, her arms landing around his waist as she hugged him closely.
Right now, Xavier did not care if he was getting cold from sitting in the middle of the night in the woods while it was the end of November, almost December. All he cared for was that she was safe—safe in his arms and alive.
"I was just waiting for you.." Her voice was barely a whisper as she spoke, clinging onto him as his arms had encircled her. One of his hands was on her cheek, thumb rubbing along her cheekbone as his chin rested on top of her head.
"I know." Guilt made a lump form in his throat. "I'm sorry."
They sat there, on the cold ground, Xavier holding onto her as if he were a shelter from the evil, all while y/n moved so the side of her head rested against his chest. Ear pressed to his heart, the constant beating was, in a way, calming. Her arms around his waist are not loosening.
"It almost got me." A stray tear fell down her cheek, but his hand that caressed it was quick to wipe it away. Pressing a kiss to her forehead and holding her even closer if that was possible.
"You're fine." It was more to reassure himself that she was indeed fine, or as fine as she could be after hiding and being attacked for the past two hours.
He could slowly feel the adrenaline in her body oozing out as she slowly relaxed into him more, almost her whole body weight leaning onto him. At last, y/n let out that one breath, that last shaky breath that needed to come out, her eyes closing for a second.
"Thank you.."
Once more, Xavier pressed a kiss to her forehead before resting his head atop hers. He waited a little longer before calling Ajax and telling him he had found her.
"You're okay."

"Are you seriously telling me you don't have a single clue as to who could have given you that?" Enid's voice was exasperated as she had yet again tried to see if y/n had any idea who could have given her the necklace they found just the other night. All the moving had been full of the same questions from the blonde, while Thing seemed to get more and more tired of the constant nagging she was doing.
"No," y/n had a strong, and very reasonable, suspicion. After what had happened just the night before, it was hard for her to believe it was him. The handwriting on the note was also familiar—too familiar to go unnoticed.
"Seriously, you're dealing with someone who really likes you. I mean, they must do if they gave you a whole necklace and somehow got it into our dorm."
Enid was walking in the middle of the three of them, her arms hooked with both of the two Addams sisters, y/n a bit more okay with it than Wednesday, who had muttered out a few threats. They had just reached the classroom and walked inside to find seats, and today, y/n was determined to sit beside either her sister or Enid, for she knew that when Xavier entered and if he were to sit next to her, he would, as usual, take great pleasure in making her even more flustered.
"Or a murder." Wednesday stated her case clearly as she released her arm from Enids' grip and found an open seat. y/n didn't hesitate to take a seat right next to her sister, securing herself from having to withstand a cocky Xavier Thorpe.
"Where should I sit now?" Enid exclaimed, flailing her arms in the air at the two sisters. "Aren't you going to sit next to Xavier as always?"
"You can sit with Yoko." Wednesday motioned behind them to Yoko, who sat alone and smiled at the blond. Enid shrugged and did not protest, quite content and totally okay with sitting next to Yoko as she was a friend of theirs.
y/n had just taken out the new book she had chosen to read and was about to start on it when she was nudged by Thing. He poked her arm and pointed towards Enid and Yoko, and turning, she found both of them looking at her. She had most certainly not heard what they said.
"What?"
"Show Yoko the necklace! We found a necklace on her bed yesterday from someone!" Enid was beaming as she motioned towards the chain around her neck, and Wednesday sat turned so she faced her sister and the two girls at the bench behind them. Yoko had only leaned forward on the table to see better, clearly intrigued by what Enid had just said.
y/n stood up, reaching for the chain that was around her neck. She had it under her shirt, so it was a bit of a struggle to get it up without completely destroying her perfectly made tie. When she finally managed to get it out to show, she leaned closer to Yoko and held out the necklace, refusing to take it off. To be honest, she had put it on almost directly the day before when she found it and had not taken it off, even when sleeping.
Yoko took a close look at the necklace; the pearl that was inside the little cage-like charm moved as she inspected it. Enid had too leaned closer to once more take a look at it and Wednesday just sat and stared. "Who gave it to you?"
"I don't know." Was once more y/n's answer, but this time it was Yoko who had asked her and not Enid. Wednesday cast a suspicious glance at her sister; something didn't add up.
"You don't know?" Yoko was confused.
"No, I just said I didn't."
"She just came back covered in paint all over, and I had seen the necklace just minutes earlier while looking for my charger she borrowed." The blonde really did all of the explaining. y/n sat back on the stool by her and Wednesday's table but was turned away towards Yoko and Enid; it was still about five minutes till class.
"Covered in paint?" The vampire raised a brow at y/n who, instead of putting the necklace back under her shirt, had pulled it around so the tie of her uniform would hide it; it was less of a struggle to wear it that way.
"Yeah... why were you even covered in paint? Weren't you with Xavier?" Just as Enid said that, Xavier walked inside with Ajax behind him, and the mention of his name made him turn his head.
"Anything I could help with?" Xavier asked while he and Ajax walked and sat down at the empty seats to the left of Yoko and Enid.
"Yes! Why was y/n completely covered in paint when she got back to our dorm yesterday?" It was obvious to one or both of them, namely Wednesday, Yoko, and Ajax. Ajax had caught Xavier returning to his dorm, also covered in paint strokes and splatters the previous night.
Xavier took a glance at y/n, amusing smirk appearing on his face while y/n gave him an intense stare. "She was being annoying; it was the only way she would shut up."
"I got you better; you looked worse than I did." That was indeed a fact; Xavier had gotten the worst of it, and Ajax started to nod at her.
"True, you looked as if you'd gotten paint dumped on you." Ajax told him, which made the boy beside him smack his arm, feeling betrayed by his own friend.
"Seriously?"
"What? I'm just being honest, man; she got you good." Even though it was not the kind of payback that Wednesday would go for, hers being more brutal, she turned to y/n who blinked at her sister. She received a nod from Wednesday, as if it were a good job nod; it was well received and sufficient to demonstrate that she cared.
Enid had held out her hand for a high five as a way of saying "good job" to y/n. For a second, she just looked at the outstretched hand towards her before everting her eyes back to the blond, who motioned for her to give her a high five. With a sigh, and just the tiniest roll of her eyes, she did as her friend wanted. It was a bit silly of her to high-five over something like being able to get more paint on Xavier, but it made Enid happy, so.
As y/n turned to see how long it was till the teacher would be there, Xavier took the chance at hand to try and see if she was wearing it. Trying to spot the chain around her neck was hard, but when he looked a little closer, he could see the silver chain and that the charm was hidden behind her tie. It made a smile pull at his lips, and she wore it. He glanced at Thing, who sat on Wednesday's shoulder; the hand noticed and gave him a quick thumbs up, which was only noticed by Ajax. The gorgon looked perplexed, but Xavier didn't explain why Thing gave him a thumbs up.
"Hey, y/n got a new necklace yesterday!" There was just something about Enid that made her feel the need to tell everyone about it. At the boys' mention of it, y/n turned with a murderous look in her eyes towards the cheery girl. She loved Enid, but holy hell did she unknowingly feed into Xavier's ego.
"I do not believe everyone is in need of knowing that, Enid." It was Wednesday who told the girl off.
"Well, my bestie has a secret admirer who got her a necklace; that's cute!"
Oh yes, this was exactly what Xavier found enjoyment in. While Y/N sat and had all five look at her, she was very uncomfortable with all the attention. He was playing along and acting a little shocked, as if he didn't know anything.
"It is a necklace; there is no need to make it something bigger."
"Why are you wearing it if it's just a necklace, as you say?" Curse Yoko for always noticing the very small yet fatal flaws in certain things.
"It looks good, and I guess I appreciate the gesture." As usual, her face did not show much emotion, but her tone was a bit more questioning than confident. Though for Xavier, it was always her eyes that told the truth, and they said she did appreciate the gesture.
"Well, he's a lucky man then," Xavier stated so as to sound interested and not suspicious, but it made y/n turn to him.
"How do you know it's from a guy? It could be a girl, because you make it sound as though you know something." y/n pointed it out to him, which made Xavier open his mouth to say something but then close it as he gave up. He was shaking his head slightly at her while all the others were watching them interact.
Before anyone could say anything, the teacher entered the classroom, calling for everyone to get to their seats and open up their books. Xavier clicked his tongue at Y/N, who only gave him a fleeting glance before turning to do as the teacher instructed. Without shame, he could see her pull at the chian around her neck, making it a little more visible.
She did not notice, but others did notice the way he looked at her. The people behind or Ajax beside Xavier could see the way he looked at her. He would look forward and show he was focused on the lesson, but as soon as the teacher turned, his focus would be on y/n who listened intently to the lesson while fiddling a little with the necklace.
He was enamoured with her, and sometimes it was just silly how much he did like her. Some would say he was whipped and that she had him wrapped around her little finger. But he honestly couldn't remember how he got to this point or how he fell so in love with her. Sure, that day when they were waiting for their friends just about a week ago and she truly did smile seemed to have something to do with it. But he knew that. When it came to just a week ago, he had no clue about that.
Maybe it was the way she could sit and just listen, not say a word, and somehow still show she cared. It could very much also be how she actually trusted him; if he said something about someone (like Tyler), she would think the same, standing by him. Or perhaps it was the way she had begun to show more of herself after they had known each other for a while. She let her mask of an expressionless and emotionless person drop, slowly showing him her real self. Maybe that was what he loved so much.
He knew that she had figured it out. She was too smart not to. So why wait any longer.
——
Everything was a blur. How had it all escalated this fast? Only about a week ago, this was not a thing. Xavier had not been so adamant about making her flustered around other people. A week ago, they had just been y/n and Xavier, the two who were seen as an odd pair of friends.
Sure, y/n had figured out about a month ago that she felt just a bit more than friendship for Xavier, but she had kept it to herself. However, there were certain things she let him in on a bit more, such as when she let him see a bit more of her without her facade when they were alone. She found that, unlike people in the past who would use her for the heck of it and make her feel bad, Xavier did the opposite. He let her be who she was and did not care; he did not ask her to change, and he did not make her feel as though she couldn't show her true self without then being betrayed.
And then yesterday, it felt right when he drew her back toward him instead of letting her go when she wanted to, hands on the sides of her face, caressing with such gentleness as if she might break. The way he looked at her was as if there were nothing else in the world, no one else in the world, and no one but her. She was very familiar with that look, all thanks to her parents.
Right then and there, she wanted to just stay forever. Standing close to him and just being able to stare into his green eyes forever. She liked the way her heart fluttered around him; it made her finally feel alive and not just dead on the inside.
It was all just so easy—so, so easy.
y/n took a sip at her tea, continuing to think with the sound of Wednesday writing on her novel. The tapping sounds of her sister's typewriter, not one she annoyed herself  mixed with some light music coming from Enid's side. The blond laid on her bed and looked through her phone; all day y/n just sat on her bed with a mug of tea in hand and stared into space.
"Do you still not have an idea of who gave you the necklace?" Endi broke the silence, and y/n actually contemplated telling her friend the truth but then realised how bad an idea it was.
"No."
"Awh man, I really wanna know who gave you it!" Enid sighed and sprawled out on her bed. y/n hummed at her just as there was the sound of a knock.
All three girls turned their heads, even Wednesday, who was currently on her hour of writing, and she was also the first to stand and walk towards the door. She muttered something about how it seemed people always knocked on their door when she was writing.
She went back to staring off into space, not expecting anything specific and thinking it would most likely be Ophilia or Yoko, but oh, how wrong she was.
When Wednesday opened the door, she was met by none other than Xavier Thorpe. She blinked twice as she looked up at him, narrowing her eyes at him. "Is there anything I could help you with?"
"Ehm yeah, is y/n there?" The sound of his voice made y/n furrow her brows and place her tea on the nightstand beside her bed.
"y/n, it's Xavier." With that, the gloomy girl went back to her writing, and soon y/n was the one standing in front of him.
"Hi," y/n couldn't think of anything else to say.
"Hey, could we talk?" With a glance behind her, Xavier could see Enid perk up at his request, and Wednesday turned her head almost like an owl toward them. Both others were looking at him with suspicion. "Somewhere we can be alone, maybe."
With a glance behind her, y/n understood what he meant. "Ehm okay. Yeah, sure." She didn't need to tell her sister and the werewolf she was going; they were both watching, but now they were watching Xavier.
Once she moved and closed the door, out in the hallway, Xavier wasted no time in taking a hold of her hand. It was not as bold a move as the one he pulled the day before, but it was enough to make y/n take a breath and calm her heart a little.
Without saying a word, he began to pull her down the hallway towards a more remote part of the dorm level of Nevermore. The tower stairs up to the attic in one of the towers were somewhere no one ever went. It was a bit away from the dorms, which would give them privacy.
Gnawing at the inside of her cheek, y/n hesitated for a second before she slowly let her hand close around his, seeing him just move his head to look down at their hands and then focus back on navigating his way around.
Finally reaching the stairs up to the tower, he stopped, his back still against y/n who very lightly held onto his hand. Looking around and up to see the tower stretch high above y/n switched which hand was holding Xaviers so she could walk around him and just go up the first step of the stairs.
It made Xavier gaze at her, no longer having the willpower to act all cocky and do or say something to make her flustered. He just wanted to enjoy watching her.
"I don't think there's much I need to say; you're too smart to not have already figured things out." Xavier started off, causing y/n to turn. She was a little taller now that she was on the third step, but not tall enough to not need to look up at him.
"And I thought you had taken me here to kill me." y/n spoke while looking out a window from the tower, seeing the whole schooground.
"You are... unbelievable." Xavier smiled, running a hand through his hair as y/n finally faced him, their eyes meeting.
"I just..." He trailed off, catching sight of the necklace. It was now on full display, as she did not hide it with her uniform, seeing as both of them had long since switched to casual clothing.
He looked down at it, taking it gently up and twirling it around in his hand; for once, it was him who was more flustered than her. For once, it was the way he could feel her look at him that made him flustered and not the other way around.
"I thought it would suit you; it does." He whispered, letting go of the charm on the necklace, looking back into her eyes, and for once, her walls, her facade, were completely down.
Just like the night before, he put his hands on the sides of her face, and even if she was a bit higher now than yesterday, she was still shorter. When she noticed a bit of his hair was falling in his face, she leaned a little extra into one of his hands and brushed his hair away from his face so she could see him better. Her whole insides were full of butterflies, which were flapping hard against her abdomen.
"You don't have much to say, do you?" Xavier chuckled as y/n just looked at him, not saying anything.
"I like it."
"Really?" There was a hint of amusement in his voice, which made her roll her eyes and lean forward, her forehead hitting his chest.
"I will mutilate you in your sleep." She threatened to the fabric of his t-shirt, but that only elicited another chuckle, and she could feel his chest vibrate as she did so.
"No, you won't," Xavier said, lifting her chin to see her face; her hands rested on his waist to keep herself steady.
And there they were, both seeing what they liked the most. He could see her smile, and she could see the look in his eyes that she adored. Without hesitation, Xavier leaned down and finally connected their lips.
Even if the tension between them over the past week had told them both enough about each other's feelings, the kiss was pure bliss, soft and sweet. Xavier could feel her lashes against his skin when her eyes fluttered shut, his heart swelling, and he just couldn't help but smirk into the kiss.
Pulling away to rest their foreheads together, both in need of air, she could feel him stroke his thumb along her cheekbone, just as he had done the day before. Her entire being was flustered once more as Xavier opened his eyes and looked into hers.
"Enid will strangle me to death just by hugging me if she gets to know about this," It was a thought she happened to say out loud, not meant for Xavier to hear.
"Mhm, but if you don't go back, she doesn't have to know till later."

It was becoming harder and harder to actually focus on what he was saying. Every few seconds, he would have to run his hand through his hair to push it away from his face as it fell in his eyes. Did he not have a hair tie? He usually did, so why, of all days, did he not have one now when his hair seemed to be the biggest bother of them all? Not even the way he spoke of Tyler could make her think he was more of a bother than his own hair.
To anyone around, it would not seem as though she listened to what she was told, as she just focused on a spot in front of her and let him talk. But she was, truly. Listening was one of the things she was best at, and she really wanted to hear Xaviers' reasons for why he disliked Tyler so much. Seeing as she had yet to meet him, she wanted to understand why he found the guy annoying and often rolled his eyes whenever she mentioned her sister just saying something about him.
If y/n ever told Xavier that Wednesday had been to talk to Tyler, he would scoff, then just tell her he was an asshole, idiot, bitch—or just whatever bad word he could come up with to call him. She would never admit it out loud, but she had labeled Tyler as an asshole ever since Xavier called him one.
After spending so much time together, the two quickly became close. Xavier had been intrigued by her since she came to Nevermore with Wednesday. He was intrigued by the fact that she did not appear to show much emotion on the surface, but as he got to know her, he discovered that she cared for people more than most people realized.
On the other hand, y/n had been pretty reserved in the beginning. She always eyed the tall boy strangely whenever he talked to her, and there was a certain kind of caution in her about actually getting to know someone. He had yet to learn why she had been so wary at first.
Now, Xavier had not noticed how quiet she had been for the past few minutes. He was too busy shittalking Tyler to notice. The fact that y/n wanted to listen and had said, "Please enlighten me. I'm genuinely curious as to why." So seeing as she had finally asked him to tell why, he had started off just telling how Tyler and his friends had destroyed his mural and jumped him. That slowly turned into a rant about everything he found annoying with him that had now gone on for the past five minutes.
Xavier had not gotten any kind of implication that she listened anymore. The silence that had become all too noticeable from her, as well as the looks they had received from fellow students, were not unnoticed. Just to kind of get an idea if she seemed to listen, he leaned forward to see her face. She was indeed just staring into space.
He let out a sigh that made her blink, turning to see that he had stopped talking and running his hand through his hair for the hundredth time. "And you're not paying attention, are you?"
Turning, he saw that she was now looking at him, blinking, and in her eyes he could see the confusion that did not fall upon her face.
"Who said that I'm not? Because I most certainly have been paying attention." It wasn't that she hadn't listened; she just thought it better to stay quiet and let people talk without disturbing them.
"What have I even been talking about then?" His tone was challenging; he was leaning forward and maintaining eye contact with her the whole time, a smug smile on his face.
"You started by explaining why you dislike Tyler, but then you just started mentioning everything that irritates you about him, which was about twelve different things, and all while doing so, your hair has been bothering you."
"So you did listen," It was not actually a question to be answered, yet he got one either way.
"Yes, I did." She paused for just about a second. "I have to admit that you constantly having to fix your hair was quite irritating."
"I don't have a hair tie." Even if he knew he didn't have one, he looked down at both his wrists just to make sure and felt through his pockets, seeing if one had magically appeared (though that wouldn't be a surprise, this was Nevermore after all.)
"Here." Turning his head back at the sound of her voice, he was met by y/n holding up a black hair tie in front of him to take. This caused him to take a second look at her; she looked at the hair tie and then up at him, silently telling him to take it.
"Thanks," Was he feeling cocky about seeing just the slightest of hesitation in her eyes while she looked at him? Yes, he surely did.
Their fingers were brushing as he took the hair tie from her, but as soon as Xavier had a grip on the hair tie, she quickly retracted her hand. With a smirk, Xavier gathered up the top part of his hair into a half-up, half-down style just to get the most annoying part of his hair away from his face.
"If your hair is being such a bother, maybe you should consider cutting it." It came out so suddenly that his hands just dropped from tightening the hair tie, and he turned to her with a questioning look. He thought she liked his hair as it was; at least Ajax said that's what Enid had told him.
"I sure hope there's an and—or a but to that." Xavier was able to detect just the tiniest bit of hesitation in her, as she seemed to have an and or but to that suggestion.
Swallowing hard, she could feel herself struggling to come up with the words to say it. This was what Enid had said: compliments can be a good start, but y/n was not one who ever really gave compliments. Plus, if she had gotten to know one thing about Xavier, it was that anything that would, in his ears, be considered a compliment was going to boost his ego. as if he didn't already have a bit of an ego.
"But," Turning just slightly to face him, there was already an amused smirk growing on his face. Her cheeks were growing increasingly hotter. "I don't think you should, because I like it as is."
"What would you do if I did cut it, though?" Yes, this was feeding into his ego a bit more, but to be honest, his insides were feeling as if butterflies flapped their wings a bit harder than they usually did. y/n looked around at the people in the courtyard while thinking about the question, also looking for the three others that were to join them.
"You would be six feet under."
"Oh, that's how much you actually like my hair." It was really amusing for Xavier to torture her like this, as somehow he could make out that she was getting a bit flustered by all this. He stood at his full height and poked her sides, making her jump and squirm.
"Stop that," y/n told him while swatting at his hands and being able to smack them a few times when he went to poke her sides even more.
As she struggled to smack his hands away from poking her even more, there was something that made him stop. Her lips had unconsciously pulled into a small smile that made him stop completely. Xavier had actually never really seen her smile; most of the time if she felt a smile pull on her lips, she would cover it up in some way, but this smile was one she had not noticed herself.
Just as he was about to say something about it, she was pulled away from him. Enid had been quick when walking up to the two and hooked her arm with y/n's, pulling her away from standing so close to Xavier. Both of them were taken by surprise.
"y/n!" Enid cheered loudly while holding on to the girl's arm and hugging her, earning a side eye from y/n, who then glanced at Xavier.
"My friend." Enid said, just as Wednesday and Ajax had caught up to them, shooting a glare at Xavier, who simply raised his hands at the werewolf-girl.
"Rude." Before the other two reached them, Xavier just took a last glance at her, trying to see if her smile was still there, but it wasn't. He liked it; the way she smiled made his insides flutter even more.
He wanted—no, scratch that. He needed to see that smile again.
——
Spending time in Jericho was better than being at Nevermore and having classes. No long boring classes about plants, no math, no assignments to do—just a day where all students could take a break from school. And sure, some of the work they could do in Jericho was maybe not the most entertaining, but all of the students from Nevermore saw any work as better than just sitting in school. Most normal people would consider school at Nevermore to be fun and unique, but it was simply a school designed for odd people, such as the Nevermore students, to feel less odd.
It had been Enid, who did not want to stand y/n just sitting around as they worked, telling her she would stab her eyes out with fire irons while being bored, who had given her the idea. So Enid told the Addams girl about a certain tall, blonde-brunette boy who was probably bored out of his mind at the Weathervane Cafe (it was a desperate attempt to get them together); she knew he would be; Xavier told her that Tyler worked there, so it would not really be his favourite thing ever. So that was where she was heading.
It was slightly cold outside, being autumn and all. The winds that blew the leaves around made it colder as she walked down the pavement of Jericho, seeing the cafe sign only about a hundred feet in front of her. When she finally arrived at the door, she did not hesitate to push it open, allowing herself to be engulfed by the warmth from within.
It was calm; not too many people were there; only about ten other people were there. There were a few duos that conversed with one another while simultaneously sipping on their coffee, tea, or whatever they were drinking. Four of the other ten people sat alone, one of them an elderly man who sat in one of the corners with a cup of black coffee and a brownie while reading the newspaper.
She took off her jacket, as it was warm enough inside without it. The cafe was placed just perfectly in town, as one could look out the windows and see the town just outside. The smell of coffee was the most noticeable of all, something y/n did not care for because she found the bitterness unpleasant.
Walking around the counter so she could look at all the drinks and things they sold, she found that there was no one at all behind the counter.
The calm was soon broken, however, when someone working there walked in, though it was not Xavier but a boy with shorter, curly hair. Something to know about y/n was that when she was out and about, she would not have her eyes completely relaxed so as to not seem so closed off, even though her voice wouldn't be the most expressive one, just to make people not feel as though they passed her off.
"Hello, is there anything I could get you?" The boy behind the counter gave her a slight smile, prompting her to mentally repeat what Enid had suggested she try.
"Hot chocolate, with some whipped cream and marshmallows." The boy behind the counter nodded and took out a mug to start making her drink, but she just turned around with a question on her mind, and y/n noticed he wanted to ask something. "Yes?"
"It's just that you remind me of someone I know," Her eyes narrowed in response to his statement. "Ehm, what's your name?"
"y/n Addams." He had just gone back to start making her drink and once again turned back to where she stood on the other side of the counter.
"You're Wednesday's sister, she's told me about you." Not true; she hadn't told him about him, just mentioned her sister. She knew that much about her sister. But, even if she didn't seem to care all that much, family was the one thing she cared about and only ever seemed to care about her. But Wednesday would never tell anybody just all about y/n, she knew that.
y/n realised who she was speaking with. The boy with whom Wednesday only briefly conversed and interacted. But he was the one who jumped Xavier with his friends. Okay, so you know what I said earlier about y/n already labelling Tyler as an asshole because of Xavier? Yeah, that still remains. She let her eyes that she had keept a bit less relaxed, finally, relax which made her whole expression change. Only Tyler appeared to be unconcerned.
"That means you are Tyler." Her eyes flickered over to a figure coming into her view, someone that Tyler could not see.
As soon as y/n mentioned her name, the blond-brunette in the back perked up from his sulking over having to work with Tyler. With furrowed brows, he had walked in behind the counter and now stood about twelve feet behind Tyler, leaning against the wall. Xavier knew that she had seen him enter, and just for the heck of it, he crossed his arms and waited to see how long it would take for Tyler to notice he was there.
"Yeah, yeah. Your sister has mentioned me?" It was a miracle he didn't notice her averting her gaze to Xavier with a questioning look in her eyes before returning her gaze to Tyler.
"Yes, my sister..."
Just as he was about to say something more, Tyler finally caught on that y/n were looking at someone behind him. Turning around, he saw Xavier leaning against the wall, arms crossed, with an annoyed look on his face. He raised a brow at the curly haired boy before looking at y/n who was looking between the two boys.
"You two know each other?" Tyler finally spoke as he turned to y/n; the question was directed at her, but it seemed that Xavier was about to answer, though y/n did not let him even utter a word before answering.
"Yes, he is my friend," y/n said after a brief pause. "And told me all about you."
Right then and there, Tyler realised why she had gone from looking a little tired to having a completely annoyed face when looking at him. Her tone signalled to him that she was hinting at just what he thought it to be. For him, it was awkward.
Finally having enough, Xavier pushed off the wall and walked towards where Tyler was behind the counter, clearly using his height as intimidation. "I'll just take this."
"Oh yeah.." With a glance at each of them, Tyler swiftly walked to start cleaning up some tables from previous customers that had left.
"Well," Xavier said, leaning forward on the counter, which she stood on the other side of. "Have you made your own assessment of him?"
"Asshole." That was all y/n said, and it made the boy in front of her chuckle, which in turn had an effect on y/n as her lips tugged into a smile at the sound of his laughter.
"You are right about that." Looking back up at her with a smile, his eyes flickered to her lips at the sight of her smile once more.
It was as if, for the past week, he had been playing "find the smile" on her. Trying to catch every smile she'd ever give, he'd seen about eight so far, nine including this one. She was good at hiding most of them. It was something about the way he smiled that he couldn't quite put his finger on, but it felt important. The fact that y/n seemed not to know that she did smile and that every time she did, he got to enjoy it.
"What are you doing here, either way?" Shaking his head, he asked just to come back to reality.
"To cut a long story short, there was an issue with the number of volunteers, so I couldn't work with Enid and my sister at Pilgrim World. Enid said I should go and spend time with someone who I actually enjoy spending my time with, so here I am."
"Oh, so you do enjoy spending time with me. Good to know I wasn't imagining it then." Her smile was still present on her face, which made this the longest she had ever held a smile.
"If I didn't, then me and Wednesday would have spent our first night here enjoying gravedigging. Though that would be fun to do again." y/n trailed in thought as she remembered just how long it was since she and her sister had been gravedigging. They really needed to do that again.
"You know at this point that whenever you say something like that, it's just an empty threat," Xavier pointed out while standing up, pushing off the counter. "You like me too much to do something like that to me. Admit it."
"Will you just make me that hot chocolate of mine that I never got?" y/n sighed, trying to dodge what he had just said. But he would not let it go.
"Not unless you admit that you like me too much to ever carry out your threats against me."
Her jaw tightened in annoyance as she watched him stand back and cross his arms again, waiting for her to admit it.He was gloating at her frustration at having to say it just so she could get that drink. His gloating was also not he was god at hiding, clear as day showing he found satisfaction in making her admit to things she would never say out loud. He had gotten to know her too well.
"Fine.. I like you too much to ever carry out any of my threats. Now can please have my hot chocolate or I'll leave you here alone with Tyler for the rest of the day, Xavier." He did not care for the glare she was shooting him as he got what he wanted, letting out a chuckle once more.
"One hot chocolate is coming right up."
——
Music played softly in the background. y/n had just switched from one song on Xaviers' playlist to another as she felt the previous one was not one she could read to. Xavier didn't mind; he let her know the password to his phone for a reason—he wanted her to also enjoy the music being played and not just him. She just put his phone on the bench in his shed and turned back to her book.
This had all been Xaviers' idea. He had slowly wanted to spend more and more time with y/n, starting to steal her away from Enid and Wednesday, much to Enid's distaste. The werewolf girl had made it very clear to him that "I'm watching you, Thorpe." Not that he felt too threatened by the blond, as it was more Wednesday that he was a bit more worried about. Seeing as she was already keeping a close eye on them, she often narrowed her eyes at Xavier when he came and asked if y/n wanted to come with him.
Anyway, it had all been his idea. y/n knew about his shed, where he spent most nights painting, she had been there quite a few times with him, and he enjoyed the company. He would be painting, sketching, or just doing whatever as y/n would sit with a book in hand, engulfed in the story as they always had music on in the background too.
Today was like any other time when Xavier asked if she wanted to come to the shed with him. He had just simply asked after dinner if she wanted to, and as always, he got a yes. They had simply just done a turn for the girls' dorm, where y/n had gone inside her, Enid, and Wednesday's shared dorm and taken the book she had just started reading.
It was always amusing to Xavier because whenever they went to Y/N's dorm so she could get a book and he was waiting outside, he would hear Y/N threaten Enid. Then Enid would say something as y/n opened the door once more before being cut off again by the door closing. It was always amusing to him.
Today, though, Xavier did have a motive for bringing her out to his shed.
Again he turned his head just to get a glimpse at y/n as she read her book, then took a look back at his canvas, so far he had gotten the general shape. Inspiration had been low when they first got there about an hour earlier (they got there much later than they usually did as it was slowly pulling towards curfew), but her just sitting there, reading on, gave him something to paint. He would of course tell her when he had started to actually get to the details so as not to spook her, but first he just wanted to get in a rough sketch of her.
y/n had just gotten to page 393. Oliver and James, the characters in her book, were backstage between two acts. Oliver demanded knowing the truth, and it was keeping y/n on edge as James was quiet and did not answer. That confirmed it all; it was him, and it made y/n gasp, causing Xavier to turn his head.
He raised his brows at her, an affectionate smile on his lips as he watched her. "What?"
"James just confessed to Richard's murder, though Richard deserved it."
"Okay, I'm going to pretend I know what's going on in your book." He turned back to the canvas to do his own. But he still found the way she had gasped at the book cute.
"The character accidentally killed the asshole character, and the police have just found out and are there to arrest him." It was a simple explanation, but it gave him the least bit of understanding for what was happening in her book. She had only about thirty pages left, so I could not wait much longer until she was done.
"Interesting." Xavier nodded while just adding a bit of simple lining for the background of the painting. "Could you switch to that Russian song?"
"Which? I know more than one Russian song." She put down her book and took up his phone once more, tapping in the password.
"You know, that one you found when you and Ajax were looking for music."
"Are you referring to Molchat Domas тоска?" Without even waiting for an answer, she put on the song and turned to see if it was the right one. He gave it a thumbs up to indicate that it was the correct song. But he didn't turn away from the canvas, staring at it intensely to see if everything was to his liking (which it was).
y/n leaned on the stool she had been sitting on while reading to see the canvas, seeing just an outline or idea for what he was going to paint. She was completely unaware that it was her. "Even now, I know it will look excellent once you're done."
She did not think much of it and picked up her book once more to read the last few pages of it and see what the outcome was. Would Oliver and James see one another again now that Oliver was set free after doing his time?
For Xavier, however, the comment was more than just a passing thought. Because he knew she didn't often compliment people, he was completely taken aback.Eyeing her.
"You think?" He only got a hum and a nod as an answer to his question, but it did not give him satisfaction.
He then came to realise one thing: he still had his brush in his hand, and it still had wet paint on it. Looking up from the brush in his hand to the girl, whose eyes were darting across the page, she was too preoccupied with what was going to happen next to notice the malicious grin on his face as he raised his hand with the brush in it. Quickly, he flicked his wrist in her direction, causing paint from his brush to splash at her.
She jumped at the sudden sensation of something wet splashing on her face. Blinking, she raised her hand and wiped her face, only to discover paint on her hand. Turning her gaze up to Xavier, she could see him trying to keep from laughing at her reaction.
"What?" y/n closed her book and stood up, her entire face now a question mark.
"You think it's going to look good when I'm done?" Unbelievable.
"Yes, I just told you that, Xavier." Sometimes she wondered if he was deaf, but deep down she knew that he made her repeat things because he found it amusing.
"Okay, just checking in."
Annoyed that he had gotten paint on the cover of her book, she grabbed the paintbrush from his grasp and did the same thing he had done to her, flicking the brush, making it splatter paint on his face. When he opened his eyes and looked down at her, he scoffed and quickly grabbed one of his other brushes, starting to repeatedly flick paint on y/n.
As a result, a paint splashing match ensued. Both of them were flicking paint at one another, and whoever got it on them jumped just slightly at the cold liquid. Then, when both of them stopped, neither of them flicking paint at each other, Xavier quickly looked y/n up and down before reaching out and painting a single stroke with the brush on her cheek.
And they were both on each other once more. They had paint strokes on their faces; Xavier had a few on his shirt; their arms; and they both had paint splatters in their hair. It was fun, with Xavier laughing as y/n was able to do one long stroke on his cheek just before he could smack her hand away. And she was smiling, a smile that was all too strong to be held back, and it did not go unnoticed by herself. She felt it, but smiling always felt good when it had something to do with Xavier.
Finally, Xavier had enough and dropped his brush on the floor, not really caring, and to stop y/n he grabbed a hold of her wrists, holding onto her and keeping her from getting more paint on him, but his hold on her wrists was gentle.
"Okay, that's enough." He could feel her struggle a little in his hold on her wrists, but his focus was on her smile. She did not directly look at him, but she smiled, and this time it was obvious that she was very aware of it.
Looking up at him, her arms relaxing in his grip, she was met by his green eyes, which were already watching her. Her eyes flickered between his, unsure of what to do. She panicked inside as this was new territory she was stepping onto. But then it hit her how short it was until curfew, and she turned her head, seeing that darkness had started taking over the outside world.
"I should go before curfew," y/n mumbled, but just as she went to pull away from him, Xavier pulled her directly back.
It surprised her when his hands went from holding her wrists to holding either side of her face. His hands had a few undried patches of paint that transferred over to her face. But she didn't care. The way she was holding her face made her look up at him; it was hard to look anywhere else. "You should smile more."
Xavier studied her face, which both had brushstrokes and paint splatters here and there, much like his also had, stroking his thumb against her cheekbone before leaning down a little just to place a kiss at the crown of her head. Not wanting to go all too fast.
y/n just stood there and let him, feeling a warmth inside her even when he pulled away and smiled a little. Seeing just the tiniest bit of shock in her eyes.
"I don't want to get you in trouble, so go." He noticed she only paused for a second before returning to reality, turning to the table, and taking her book. It was amusing yet adorable to watch the pure confusion on her face.
She turned and looked at him before walking out of his shed and back to her dorm. A genuine smile was on his face. "Goodnight, Xavier."
"Night, y/n." Something was waiting for her in her dorm, or it should have been. Otherwise, a certain hand was going to do some shit.
Reaching her dorm, confusion was still painted on her face, but as soon as she entered, y/n was met by a bouncing Enid who jumped up and down. Taking her out of the trance that Xavier had put her in, so many rushed words were coming out of Enid's mouth, and she was clearly excited about something. Spotting her sister standing off to the side, it took her just a moment to understand what was going on.
"Oh my god, y/n! Look at your bed! Look at your bed!" It was the first words Enid said to y/n taht she could detect as the blond hurriedly pushed her towards her bed.
"What is going on?" y/n asked her sister, mind still elsewhere.
"Just do as she says," Wednesday was clearly tired by the way she motioned for her to follow Enid over to her own bed.
So she did, and her bed was indeed so etching to look at—something she hadn't noticed before on her perfectly made bed. There laid a necklace, a silver one. Thing picked it up for her, holding it out for her to take, and he nodded at the hand that just stood on her bed. Behind her, Enid was looking over her shoulder at the necklace. It was silver with a peal in a little thing. There was only a single note that read: to y/n.
Enid squeaked beside her out of happiness as Wednesday took the necklace out of her hands to inspect it closer. "Oh my god, you have a secret admirer!"
"How did it get in here? It was not there before, correct?" Wednesday handed the necklace back to y/n.
"Correct," She wanted to say what she thought out loud but bit her own tongue just as Enid stopped spinning around and flopped down on her own bed. Babbling on and on about something that again just became distant words. All the while, Wednesday seemed to also have her own thoughts on it. y/n smiled at the necklace.
It was something Xavier had wanted to see, but this had been the easiest way to do it.
He got a bit more out of the night than just being able to get that necklace to her.

Sypnosis: A walk on the beach in Dragonstone is never wrong. Especially when its such a beautiful day, but a certain boy is slowly willing himself to do one thing, kiss the girl.
Word Count: 1.2k
Tumblr media
The beaches around Dragonstone were some of the most beautiful ones in the whole entire realm, at least according to Lucerys Velaryon. The sand is smooth and warm from the sun. Waves were crashing into land. The sun had been shining for the past week and it had been beautiful. The water had become a lukewarm temperature which made it a perfect day to walk the beach.
Lucerys was a fairly shy person, that was just not something to argue about. When he was little he was just the same, he did not like to have all the attention on himself. And even now it was the same. He loathed every single stare that came along with being Princess Rhaenyras second oldest son. But even though his brother and mother tried to shield him from the whole being a bastard thing, he knew about it. It was unavoidable.
Being shy did come with a few issues but most of them were things that did not make it a big problem for Luke. However, it did make it hard when he was around y/n. She was a very fun person, that he could never not agree with, but it was at times hard for him to really say certain things. Most of the time slightly stuttering when she would look at him as he was talking, when she did not look at him it was easier.
She made him nervous and it was quite evident to everyone who would be around them. Jacaerys would at times have to keep himself restrained from laughing at his younger brother as he turned a bright red colour. Even his own mother would stand with a smile and her brows furrowed at seeing her sweet boy try to keep from stuttering or turning crimson when around her.
Even though all this, y/n was patient. She never pointed out his reddened cheeks or laughed if he stuttered just a bit more. She would simply just have a soft amole on her lips while listening to him trying to get the words to come out correctly. On the inside her heart would melt at how sweet he was.
So as of now, they both walked in peace, close to where the water washed up on shore, nearly touching their feet. Lucerys refused to screw this, he did not want to say something and then have his voice screw him over, all while y/n simply let him take his time. Eyes scanning over the beach along with looking out the horizon. The sky was clear with only a few clouds here and there.
Just as Luke wanted to try and say something, deciding that his mind needed to shut up and that he wanted her to talk and fill up the silence, she let out a gasp. Making him furrow his brows and turn to her as she crouched down into the sand, reaching out to take something that laid there.
"What.. what did you find?" For the first time in a while his voice did not give in on him. He craned his neck to try and see whatever it was y/n was looking at.
"A shell," She turned with a smile and held her arm out to show him the shell that had a slight pink hue to it. "Must have washed up with the waves."
"It's pretty," His eyes did not meet hers as she squinted due to the strong sun while looking up at him.
"I am going to keep it." y/n proudly stood up, turning the shell around in her hand. Shells were not something she was not able to find often as there were not many times she was allowed to walk the beach. But of course, when the prince himself asked if she would be allowed to take a walk with him over the beach, then she was allowed.
"Do you think all shells come from creatures of the sea or do some just somehow get created by nature and exist?" Oh my God's. He would have to answer a question, while also trying not to stutter.
The thing was that this walk did have a reason. Lucerys had an idea with this but his own shyness and nervousness made it hard to actually do it. The idea came from Jacaerys, who he had asked how to maybe somehow be able to tell the girl his feelings for her or show how much he cares for her. The fact that he now had to answer a question that would need a well thought through answer did not stand on that list of things of what to do that Jace had given him.
"Ehm.." y/n had not expected him to be about to answer her so it made her quickly turn her head towards him. "I think maybe some are from creatures, b-but there are shells n-naturally created too."
"That sounds the most reasonable," She turned her head from looking at him to watch the sky, marvelling at the beautiful clouds that formed nameless shapes. In her head she could see pictures, imagining stories of the clouds.
It had made Lucerys let out a breath of air as he tried to will himself to finally do it. It had to be done, he knew his words would fail him and there was only one way he could ever show her he liked her. Grabbing her hand would not be enough as she would often hold his hand or grab his so it was very usual for them. Though he would turn red every time her hand would even just brush his.
His brother's voice was quite literally yelling at him in his head, telling him that he should just do it and whatever reaction he would get he had to take. Even if it was quite clear that y/n liked him back just as much as he liked her. So finally, Luke caved in. His heart was hammering hard against his ribcage, making it so loud that he could barely hear the waves crashing around.
So he grabbed her hand, pulling y/n to a stop which made her turn to him with questioning eyes. Her eyes asking what was wrong, her free hand that he did not hold fiddling with the shell in her hand. To his dismay, his eyes failed to even look at her as he averted them off to the side. Cheeks rapidly grow a deeper and deeper crimson colour. Almost matching his clothes that symbolises his house.
"Anything wrong, Luke?" Oh she was just so sweet that his heart melted at her. With a last sigh he gave in and finally did it.
Quickly, so quick that y/n barely had time to process what he was doing, Lucerys leaned in and pecked her lips quickly. swiftly pulling away and looking off to the side. Making y/n blink at him, the gears in her head turning slowly to come to realisation. The silence made Luke even more unsure if she would react in a good way.
But when she came to realise what he had just done a shy smile spread on her face as she pulled slightly on his arm to grab his attention. Slowly, slowly, did Lucerys look back towards y/n. Being met by a smile was not something he had counted with. His insecure mind had only painted up the worst case scenario.
"That's nice," Her voice sweet as she leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek before pulling him along the beach. Hands still interlocked as Lucerys broke into a grin.
Yeah, that went quite much better than he thought or even Jacaerys thought.

Six year had gone by, yet he still felt at home in the training court. It held many memories for him that were worth remembering, some funny and some not exactly his favourites but still held importance in his life. They also contained things he missed, such a people and other things
A few examples of memories he had from the training court in the Red Keep was when Ser Harwin Strong got so aggravated by Ser Criston Cole that he had immediately punched him. It was quite a foggy memory but Jacaerys knew it had to do with the accusations against his brothers and his ancestry. Which was where getting called Strong boys became quite the sensitive things for him and his brothers.
But there were funny memories from training in the Red Keep when he was younger that still remained untouched and something he would at times cling onto. He would remember training with his uncles, all having fun, well except for Aemond who would be kind of off to the side lines. Now, Jacaerys was not at times proud of the teasing he, his brother and oldest uncle would give Aemond but it was at times, to him, funny to think back on.
Though there had always been one thing he had loved more than training, teasing his uncle and other things that made this place so special to him specially. It had also been the place where he would periodically meet her. In their very early years she had only stayed at the Red Keep for weeks at a time until her father had become a part of the Kings Council.
The first time he met her she was walking with Aemond. Which had been quite the eyebrow raiser, even for ten year old Jace, to see his four years older uncle and this girl walk with one another. But the girl had given the prince a smile before walking off to do whatever, leaving Aemond to join the others. It was then the teasing of his oldest uncle to his brother that Jacaerys learnt her name. y/n of House Harlaw, one of the most powerful houses of the Iron Islands.
Slowly after that he would often see the girl with both Princess Helaena and Prince Aemond. Over time even learning more about her. She was the second youngest from her house, just about fourteen months younger than Aemond. He got to know her, she was very kind hearted and always had a sweet smile on her face.
Even though he had been so young back then, something within him was just pulled towards her. Loving her kindness and company. It was not often that he back then would enjoy a walk around the Keep or in the garden, but whenever she walked passed alone he would always take his chance. Even his mother telling him he was very bold for what he was doing, approaching her with such ease for such a young boy.
Ever since what happened in Driftmark at Lady Leanas funeral, Jacaerys had never seen the girl since. His little heart had been broken at never getting to meet her again. The last time he saw her she had been escorted out of the room just as accusations of what had happened to Aemond, Jace, Luke, Baela and Rheana were thrown around. She had given him a tight smile as one of the queen's maids had escorted her out of there, leaving the two families to sort it out on their own, leaving her father there with them.
Or, that was not the last last time he saw her. The last time he saw her was actually as she was watching the ship they were taking back to Dragonstone being loaded. Only thing was, she had been standing up on the high walls of Driftmark, metres up in the air so she could hardly notice him.
Now that he was back he had hoped that y/n still spent her time at the Keep. Jacaerys had seen her father once, walking through the corridor with quite the speed. He had simply just said "Prince Jacaerys' ' and given a nod while walking past the prince. That was something Jace liked, y/n's father did support his mother's claim to the throne and by doing so, he also supposed his claim to the throne. A respectful and very kind man was what Lord Harlaw was.
Jacaerys inspected the many weapons he and Lucerys had found in the training court. All of them he was now able to name after many years. Before he had only been able to name a few of the things simply, but not specify them as well as he could now.
Of course people were staring at them, it was something they would never be able to escape. As long as people knew they were the two oldest of Rhaenyra, the looks would never stop. Jace knew he looked little like his father, Leanor Velaryon, but more like Ser Harwin. His dark brown hair being the main feature that made people's heads turn at him and his first two younger brother. Aegon and Viserys never had anyone bat an eyelash in their way. But it was not something Jacaerys nor Lucerys envied.
One of the swords to use pulled his attention. Making Jace pick it up with curious eyes. Feeling the weight of it in his hand. The handle was nice and comfortable to hold. Casting a mischievous look towards his brother, he just slightly turned and pointed the blade at the younger boy.
This caused Luke to jump a little, surprised by the sudden move and let out a breath of annoyance at his brother who chuckled. "Yes, very funny."
"What is up with you?" It was light-hearted and he asked with a joking tone.
"I just.." Luke took a look around at the people watching them whilst whispering. "Everybody is staring at us. They would not do that if-"
Jacaerys was not about to let his little brother worsen his mood or make himself even more insecure than he already was. So he quickly placed a hand on Luke's shoulder to stop his rambling. "It doesn't matter what others believe."
Lucerys gave a small smile to his older brother about to say something but the sound of a woman's voice made them both get confused. Not many women moved about in the training court, especially when guards were training and so many others in the Keep were doing so.
Both turned to see two women, or well, they could not be older than twenty at least. One was rushing with a smile on her face towards the stairs down to the training court, the other woman following her hurriedly and calling out for the other one.
"Lady Harlaw, you really should not be here!" The one who was chasing the other called out to her. But the name, Lady Harlaw, made both Luke and Jace really turn their heads.
"Oh stop it. I am allowed to be here if I feel like it. Besides, who will tell me off for it?" Her voice made her sound older than the last time they saw her but it was her, it was y/n.
She wore a light green dress as her hair was made in a way that complimented her looks. She had since he last saw her lost the babyface. But her features were still recognizable as she smiled brightly and had just stepped down from the last step on the staircase. Waiting for the other woman to join her by her side.
"The Septa will not be pleased that you are spending your time here when you could be doing so much else." y/n only softly smiled while hooking her arm with the other woman as she reached the ground. Both of them walked towards a forming crowd. Totally unaware of the two princes that stood mere metres away from them.
"Well I do not care about what she thinks I should or should not be doing. Besides, I was invited to watch."
The two Velaryon brothers exchanged looks. Lucerys pulled face at the way his brother was watching y/n as she walked to stand by the crowd, a few men moving out her way to let her and her friend, or whoever the other one was see better. It was no secret that Jacaerys had a thing for y/n when younger but never did Luke think he would still have something for her.
But there had been something Jace had hid over the years. Ravens would come with letters, at times there could be months and sometimes only weeks. Their mother nor stepfather ever seemed to notice. But Luke would, he would notice his brother taking the letters and even sending letters.
"Are you seeing the same as I or am I imagining seeing who I just thought I saw?" His eyes never left y/n but he leaned just slightly closer to Lucerys as if to hide who he was talking about.
"I believe you are not the only one who saw her." Luke answered his brother before starting to get dragged towards the circle of people.
"Come on,"
"Woah, hey!" Lucerys shook Jaces hand off him and even though he did not want to, the sound of a fight over where the crowd was made him interested so he followed his brother.
They both slowly found a place to watch from, right across from where y/n and her friend stood, following the fight along with enthusiasm. Jacaerys and Lucerys could see that it was no other than Ser Criston Cole and someone else, from their family at least. The silver blonde hair told them as much.
The fight was intense, Ser Criston Cole was using a flail, swinging it at his opponent. It stood between three people, Daeron, Aegon and Aemond. Both brothers hoped that it was not the latter of the three. There surely was some kind of hate to still remain there since Driftmark.
Whomever of the three choices to be Ser Cristons opponent he was fast and very skilled. Wielding the sword with ease to cover himself from the flail that was swung at him. Jacaerys' eyes drifted over to y/n who said something to her lady friend, her friend seeming slightly uncomfortable in the situation unlike y/n.
A hit with the flail made the shield that whoever of their uncles it was that was fighting against Ser Criston broke. Making Ser Cristons opponent throw it to the side. And loads of "oh"s went through the crowd that was watching as it was quite hard to keep oneself from being hit by a flail without a shield.
The fight intensified. Jacaerys would throw glances at y/n to see her follow the fight with ease, and she had not yet seen him or Luke. It was not until the blond man had ducked the flail so he faced the direction of Jace and Luke that they saw who it was. Aemond, of course it was him. He had most certainly grown as much as y/n had since they saw him in Driftmark. His hair was longer and still well kept. But last time they saw him, his face was swollen from the cut on his left side, red and newly sown cut. He had just lost his eye the last time they saw of him, now he wore an eyepatch over it and it made Lucerys gulp.
Finally, when there had been an opening for Aemond he took the chance and held the tip of his sword against Ser Cristons neck. Not pressing it but just keeping it close as to signal he won. Applause was earned from the crowd to the prince. Lucerys and Jacaerys could see y/n smiling and also applauding.
"Well done, my Prince," Ser Criston praised. "You'll be winning tourneys in no time."
"I don't give a shit about tourneys." Aemond answered, eyes on Ser Criston before he lowered his sword and turned his eyes over to the two brothers. "Nephews,"
This pulled y/n's attention as she followed Aemonds line of sight and could easily recognise the two brothers within the crowd. Their brunette hair was something she had missed seeing over the years. A smile spread even wider on her face upon seeing the two again ever since they left.
"Have you come to train?" His question was not one to be serious as Aemond found some fun in the way the two gaped at him. It was very amusing.
After no answer was given, the blond gave his sword to Ser Criston who gave him a pat on the shoulder for the good work. Before he turned and walked up towards the two ladies standing with their arms hooked. y/n did not see Aemond coming closer as she had just gotten eye contact with Jacaerys. Giving him a smile and wave as he, too, did the same towards her. But it was the pull of her friend that made y/n acknowledge the blond beside her.
Neither Jacaerys nor Lucerys could hear anything from the interaction. But to the older of the two it was clear that y/n and Aemond still were as close as when young. The way she talked with a smile on her face, arm still hooked with her friend. Then turning and saying something to her lady friend which made her smile and walk off. Leaving y/n and Aemond to themselves.
The interaction is much like when they were young. y/n being the one person which certain things did not apply to according to Aemond. One of those being touching him, such as holding his hand as an example. When they were young, Aemond often did not bat an eyelash at the then young girl whenever she would hold his hand, sit close beside him, hide close behind him whenever she felt uncomfortable with Aegon around or things like that. He let her do it and never had a problem with her.
A feeling in Jacaerys stomach told him there was something off. Because it was not only y/n who seemed to initiate the physical contact. Even Aemond did so. Something he never did when they were young. It was always y/n back then and Aemond just simply would let her.
"Hey," Lucerys nudged his brother out from the many thoughts in his head. This caused him to look away from y/n and Aemond, just missing the kiss that was given by the Prince to her hand before they walked off. Hand-in-hand.
"What?" There was a 'are you serious' kind of face that met him as he looked at his little brother.
"Is that whom you've been periodically getting and sending letter to over the years?" Obviously Luke had conceted the dots. The way Jace looked at the girl and just the way his whole face had contorted into utter confusion at the scene that had just unfolded before him was more evidence than anything he would say.
"How do you know that?"
"You are not the most secretive."
Jace rolled his eyes, turning to watch y/n and maybe approach him only to now find she was gone. So was even his uncle, who had just been there seconds ago. He was truly happy to see her once more, his heart having taken a few extra beats at seeing how she had grown. But something was off, he felt it. There was something but he could not put his finger on it.
——
Confusing was one of the words that explained this to Jacaerys. His whole family, both sides were sitting to have dinner, everyone together after all these years. Even though it was strange to be all together his focus was on something else.
Everyone was there. His mother, Lucerys, Daemon, Baela and Rheana. Only Joffrey, little Viserys and Aegon were not there from his side of the family. Of course there was Aegon and Helaena who now were married, Queen Alicent, his grandsire and then Aemond. But beside Aemond sat she, y/n.
Even though they had been sitting and eating for a while now, Jace had a hard time not looking at her with a perplexed face. At times seeing his uncle give him a glance while she talked to his mother. Just as sweet as she had always been. This was a family dinner, and she was not part of the family in the way that everyone else there was. She was part of the family in a friendly way. But it seemed as if it was only Jacaerys who had this question of why she was there. The others let her sit there and talk with all of them happily as if it was nothing.
Even when they were young she was never allowed to be around if it was a so-called family thing that they had going on. In Driftmark she got escorted out when the blaming started, when they ate dinner together back then she always ate together with her father in his quarters. It was also always Alicent who would make sure she was there only if it concerned her. It was Alicent who would just tell the girl to leave them to it and make sure one of the maids would escort her back to her quarter. But now the Queen was not doing anything, sitting there and talking with her husband, and even Jaces' mother. Not batting a single lash at the young lady who sat and indulged in conversation.
The sound of a chair pulling out just a bit made Jace turn his gaze away from y/n. Turning to find Helaena standing with her cup in her hand to raise a toast. "I would like to congratulate my dear brother, Aemond, and y/n,"
It made all around the table turn their eyes toward the two who sat beside one another. Especially Jacaerys who furrowed his brows, as did Lucerys slightly who too wondered why she was there even though he was happy to see her once more.
"After many years you will soon marry one another," Those words were what made his heart slip, falling so it was dangling just on the edge. Barely holding on to the edge it had fallen off from. His face fell as it felt as though the whole world had stopped.
All that Helaena said next was foggy. He could not hear what she was saying in her celebratory toast to the two who supposedly were to marry. That was not how it was supposed to go. She was supposed to be his and he hers, she was never meant to be another's. She was not supposed to sit beside another man and smile at him in such a way she did or hold his hand in the way she did.
Yet she did. She was to marry Aemond. She did smile at him in that loving yet shy way she did when a lot of attention was brought upon her. To be completely fair, this could almost have been predicted. There were things that kind of just told this were to happen, even when they were young. She would always stand beside Aemond. Whenever Jacaerys, Lucerys and Aegon would poke fun at him, she was always there by his side. Giving disapproving looks to the older boy and the two younger. She would always be there.
Aemond too, always stayed around her as much as he could when growing up. He would not have a problem with her just sitting and reading while he would sit and do nothing, just being by her side. They had that bond, that one bond that Jacaerys would feel a feeling of jealousy about.
"Thank you, Helaena," y/n thanked the woman as she sat herself down beside Aegon. Everyone raised their glasses at the couple and took a sip each. All but Jacaerys. He sat and watched as Aemond pulled just a bit on y/n's hand for her to come closer, whispering something to her which made her shake her head with a bright smile.
"Congratulations, y/n." It was his mother who spoke, sending a sweet smile towards y/n.
"Thank you, Princess."
After that everyone went back to having fun. Spending time as a family and now Jace knew why she was there, because she was to be part of the family. His heart just losing its grip on the edge it was frantically fighting to hold onto. Hearing y/n say thanks to the congratulations with such happiness showed that she did not have anything against marrying him, she did not have a problem marrying Aemond.
Taking a swig of his wine, knuckles turning white from the grip he held the cup in. Staring off into nothingness before he turned his head and followed where Aemond was looking too. There he could see y/n, Helaena, Baela and Rheana all dance and have fun with one another. Laughing as they all four split from dancing around in a circle, holding hands to being two and two and doing the same when they were in pairs. y/n and Rheana danced with one another, their dresses flowing around them as they spun and laughed.
Rhaenyra and Alicent had started up a conversation that included Viserys. Daemon watching his two daughters dance as then taking a glance over at Aegon who downed yet another cup of wine. Going for what had to be his eighth drink of the night.
It was the way Aemond was watching her, eye following as she moved about with the other women. Laughing out loud without any problem, as the other three did. The corner of his lip was tugged into a smirk while watching. It made the growing pain in his chest worsen. Seeing the way he actually seemed to care so much for her. So Jace took yet another sip of his wine before standing up. Sending his mother a tight-lipped smile as she raised her brows in question at him.
Not caring for the way his uncles watched him, or the way that Lucerys sat and seemed to enjoy the show, he walked up to y/n. All four women stopped dancing and gave each other questioning looks. "Could I possibly speak with you outside?"
The question was directed at y/n. She opened her mouth to answer before glancing behind Jacaerys to Aemond who did not seem to really have that big of a problem with it.
"Of course, my Prince." She nodded and quickly just turned and told the three she had been dancing with that she would return very soon. Following Jace towards the door but also stopping by Aemond to whisper something to him and then walling outside into the corridor with him.
"What is there you wanna talk about?" y/n asked sweetly while walking beside him up the corridor. Patiently waiting for him to start speaking and not once making him feel rushed. Something about her was just always able to calm a man.
"I did not know you were to marry," His tone sounded bitter, not what he wanted as it made y/n furrowed her brows.
"Well, it is quite new, I would guess. Only about a month since he asked my father."
"Do you love him?" That question was what made her realise what this was all about. She did remember writing to him in one of her letters that she would, if it ever would be up to her, she would marry him. It was the answer to a question he had asked, one she did no longer remember how the question went. She had then been sixteen and Jacaerys was just months from fifteen. Not that long ago, yet so much had changed.
"I have not forgotten what I wrote to you almost two years ago. I can assure you that I have not forgotten it. I remember very vividly what I answered you and your answer to that." She had stopped, taking a hold of his hands and holding onto them.
"Then why?" His confidence, which was often through the roof, had now fallen. Voice small as he asked her.
"My father has always liked you, Jace, but my mother thinks it would never have been a good fit. I have always been meant to marry Aemond." Not a good fit, Jacaerys knew that was not it. It was because of the questions who his father truly was, it was because he was a bastard.
"Do you love him?" Once again the question was asked. In his eyes she could see he begged her not to say she did, but it had been hard not to fall for the blond over the years, even though her heart would forever belong to the Velaryon boy.
"Yes, I do." And with that his heart lost its grip from the edge and broke into a million pieces. "I do love him, but I will always love you too. You have long had a place in my heart."
"How much?"
"I love him enough to know I can spend my life with him and be content. He is a good man."
He stayed quiet. The pressure of tears building up behind his eyes and he fought for them not to fall but on did. The light of the moon made y/n see the tear fall down and she let go of his hands to wipe it away. Heart aches at seeing him like this. Brushing some of his brown hair away from his face as it came in his way.
"I'm sorry, Jace." Her voice is soft as ever. Leaning up and kissing his temple. "I am so very sorry. I wish things could have been different."
There was not much more she could say, and the fear of being found out there with him like that took over as she gave a sad face. Then turning back towards where the rest was. Leaving Jacaerys with a heart in the ground as he came to realise one thing:
She'll never be his.

Sypnosis: When she had mentioned the beauty of Arrax, from what she had seen on a distance, to the boy he decided to show her him up close. But never did Lucerys think his dragon would be like... well, this.

Tumblr media
Okay, so this did not exactly go as Lucerys had expected it to go. He had never seen this before and it made his brows furrow, creating a crease between them as he stared at the sight in front of him with confusion written all over his face. He stared at the girl who stood in front of his dragon with a big smile on her face as her every move was mirrored by the dragon.
Now here is how it was. Lucerys had y/n, his betrothed, commenting on how beautiful Arrax had looked from a distance for the past few weeks. He would not disagree with the girl. His dragon was quite a sight. Pearlescent white with golden eyes and a golden chest, Arrax was truly a beautiful dragon, well taken care of and still very young and growing.
When these comments started, Lucerys simply just smiled and explained Arraxes’ complexion a bit more in detail to the girl. She would just listen and, in her head, imagine the beauty before her. The prince would also occasionally tell her about the dragons' weak points. One was that, because Arrax was still such a young dragon, he was sometimes unsure of himself. It is a bit wobbly when flying and is not as perfect as other dragons.
These conversations about his dragon did keep going for a long time. Seeing as y/n was not a rider herself and not of Targaryen blood, she knew that approaching a dragon for her could be dangerous. Hence, why she kept her distance and would only watch from Dragonstone Castle as Lucerys would be out and about with his second half. But it also made the young prince think. What if he showed her Arrax up close?
So, as soon as he found himself free from any princely duties and y/n free from her classes with Septa, he quickly, before anyone would come and disturb him or her, grabbed a hold of the girl's hand and quickly took her towards where the dragons were kept. He was repeatedly asked what he was doing, but the grin on his face would not even break from being questioned.
"What are you doing, Luke?" y/n asked as they walked towards where the dragons in Dragonstone were all kept in the volcanic tunnels. Seeing as it was quite warm down there and especially since Caraxes had a thing for disliking any type of cold, it was understandable they lived down there.
"Well you have been mentioning how beautiful you think Arrax is," the boy said, while making sure he was walking the right way. One hand was intertwined with the girls, and the other held a torch.
"Yes, and? It was merely an observation, he is very beautiful." She was confused but also a bit stressed as she did not want Septa to be angry with her for being stolen away by the young prince.
"I was just thinking you might want to see him up close." He said it in such a casual way that it took her a second to register what he had said, promptly stopping once she realised, and the sudden stop made Lucerys also stop, turning with furrowed brows.
"What? No, I shouldn't." She shook her head. "I am not a dragonrider. I don't have a connection with Arrax. I really should not be here, Luke."
It was the loud sound of a dragon walking that echoed in the tunnel, making y/n look defeated, knowing damn well that Lucerys was aware that it was Arrax. Out of being unsure of the dragon's reaction to her being there, the fourteen-year-old girl quickly grasped a hold of her betrothed again. Making him snort at the girl who sent him a glare.
"Too late to turn back now," His tone was playful as his dragon got illuminated by the torch he was holding. Arraxes white and golden scales were glowing as he looked at his rider and then spotted the girl who stood close to him.
y/n was staring with big eyes at the dragon, his scales even more beautiful up close. eyes of a bright golden colour. He was still quite small, considering y/n had seen Syrax and Caraxes even more up close than Arrax. But he was still growing, so she knew he would become bigger.
Lucerys gave her a look that asked if she could let go of him, not that he liked the idea that she saw him as her protection, but because he was going to go up and greet his dragon. So y/n moved from clinging to his arm and stood still, making sure not to trigger the dragon as Lucerys gave a slight smirk before turning to his dragon.
Luke held out his hand to the dragon. "Rytsas, Arrax," he greeted the dragon as it lowered its head for him.
The fact that Luke said hello to the dragon was all she could make out in High Valyrian. She watched with a tiny smile on her lips as Arrax closed his eyes when being petted over his scales on his neck and then a little scratched. Almost like a cat, only that y/n knew dragons were unpredictable and could switch in only a few seconds.
It was then, when Arrax opened his eyes and side-eyed her, that she felt a bit more uneasy. The dragon then turned his eyes back to Lucerys and started to look between the two, waiting for context from his rider. The girl stood stiff as the dragon watched her.
Lucerys said something in High Valyrian which made the dragon look at his rider and then slowly over at y/n who kept her eyes on him. The young prince wanted to laugh at how stiff she seemed to be. "Come on,"
It caused her to break her stare with the dragon and turn to Lucerys."What?"
"Come, he won't hurt you." He reached out his hand for her to take. "Come on. You know you want to. "
Yeah, she did want to pet the dragon and look at him up close. She got to feel how his scales felt under her own hand. So she walked over and grabbed Lucery's hand as he slowly pulled her closer to the dragon. He was making sure that his dragon would not spook and was fine with it.
With a questioning look at y/n, she nodded at him, telling him it was okay for him to put her hand out towards the dragon. It, however, did not go as he had expected as Arrax turned completely. Facing the two teens with his whole body. It had caused Luke to just slightly pull y/n a little closer.
Arrax then lowered his head, but instead of looking at Lucerys, it was her he was looking at, eyes, intensely staring into hers. Out of pure awe at his beauty, y/n tilted her head just slightly, and to her surprise, Arrax slowly mirrored her.
Luke took a step back, letting y/n stand alone in front of the dragon. But Arrax never let his eyes leave her, slowly mirroring each time the girl would tilt her head just a little or completely, as if trying to see the dragon upside-down. She was still being mirrored.
Lucerys's brows were furrowed as he watched, his dragon, his second half, was warily mirroring the girl he loved. And it was clear that the dragon was making sure not to be too hasty, not wanting to scare the girl, which made Luke even more baffled. Never had he heard before of a dragon that was just so interested in a human in such a way that Arrax was as of now. But it was also clear that Arrax liked her. Which made the boy smile.
"Does he do this to everyone?" y/n inquired, tilting her head side to side with a bright smile on her lips.
"No," Lucerys let out a chuckle. "He never has. I believe he is trying to impress you."
"Well then I feel quite flattered, Arrax. You are even better than him at impressing," y/n pointed at the dragon rider, who scoffed jokingly.
He shook his head, walking up to stand beside y/n as she continued going from side to side and being mirrored by the dragon. Clearly amused and entertained by the dragon, much like a child. But Lucerys could not blame her, all those lessons with Septa had to make something like this very entertaining.
"I think he likes you," Luke said, placing his free hand on her back.
"You think?" She quickly turned her head towards the prince as he nodded with a smile on his face. Happy his second half and the person who would be beside him for the rest of his life got along so well.
"Thank you, I appreciate this." A quick kiss was pressed to his cheek, causing him to freeze for a second before grinning widely. Rubbing where the kiss had been placed, as y/n once more became engrossed in his dragon.
"No problem." Crimson painted his cheeks.
"He really is more beautiful up close."
No, no, in Lucery's mind, she was even more beautiful than any dragon out there. Even his own could not beat her.

J. VELARYON X F! READER
Sypnosis: They all thought she was only feeling a bit under the weather, but that soon proved to be wrong. It made Jacaerys realise one thing, the forever he wanted with her would not last long so he had to, one tell her how he felt and secondly do something so he knew they would be forever.

Tumblr media
Jacaerys Velaryon was aware that acting in such a manner was not one of his wisest choices because he anticipated the response it would elicit. He anticipated that she would sigh, possibly roll her eyes and then reprimand him for acting in a way that a prince was not supposed to. However, he continued to enjoy the smile he would still get in return, making the small effort worthwhile.
In all honesty, he didn't find it bothersome. When Jacaerys learned that she was feeling a little under the weather, he had already made up his mind to do something kind for her. Therefore, he was currently carrying a bowl of soup and spoon, as he moved through the corridors of Dragonstone.
This girl though was not just anyone. Y/n l/n belonged to one of the Great Houses in Westeros. Her house had sworn loyalty to Jacaerys mother when she was named heir to the iron throne. The l/n house had been the most loyal house to Rhaenyra, but now only one living member of that family remains. Y/n.
It was a tragic fire that had started where the l/n's lived. The then only three year old girl's father had, in a hurry and high on adrenaline, ran into his youngest daughter's room and got her out. But once he was outside and had placed her onto the ground, only for a second had he stopped to take a look at her, hand holding his crying girl's face as her young brain could not comprehend what was going on.
Then a whisper of words that was long forgotten passed her father's lips before he kissed her forehead and stood before hurriedly running inside the residence once more. But only to never return with y/n's two older siblings, leaving a girl to herself until people in the two nearby found her.
It was a tragedy which quickly reached the ears of the nobles in King's Landing. When word reached the Princess Rhaenyra, she had been saddened by the news as f/n l/n and his late wife, that then had passed only two years earlier, had long been people she knew would support her claim of the crown.
However, when she was told of the little girl who now had been left without family or relatives she knew she had to do something. Even despite the objections for the idea by Queen Alicent, King Viserys saw it as no problem for y/n's grandfather who too had passed in the fire had been a loyal man on his council since he claimed the throne. So the care of y/n fell over to none other than Rhaenyra, who was determined to make the girl feel well loved and be brought up to know as much as possible about her family's house.
Whenever Jacaerys tried ro remember when y/n first came as a three year old to King's Landing it was all very foggy. He too was no older than three, Lucerys only two, and Joffrey years from being born. But he did remember him wanting to play with her, but the little scared girl had quickly taken cover behind his mother as he was held back by his father, Leanor Velaryon.
When he finally reached where y/n's room in Dragonstone was he slowly started to prepare himself for the quick scolding he would get. The guard outside her room did not question or tell him to stay out which had only happened like one time. They did not even spare him a single glance. He very gently knocked on the door, listening in to see if she would answer him.
"Come in," Her voice could just be faintly made out, the door keeping her from being heard completely.
But without any second thought, Jacaerys opened the door and just as predicted, as he entered there was a loud sigh coming from the girl who had been stuck in bed all day on his mother's orders.
"Jace," She groaned as he closed the door and gave a sheepish smile. Walking up to her where she was seated in her bed.
"y/n," He mocked while putting down the bowl of soup on her bedside table. The girl shook her head at the prince whom she had called friend for such a long time.
"I thought I had made it clear to you," Yes, he would get the scolding he always did. "You do not need to bring me my food. You have other more important things to do, like being a prince, plus you know how your mother will get if she knows you abandoned whatever work you have now."
Every time he did something that was not what he was supposed to this was what he would get: a scolding which was pretty brief, then a thanks for actually being so sweet as y/n liked to express it and in the end he would get to enjoy her smile. Not too shabby if you asked Jacaerys. All for that smile.
"Well, mother did mention you were feeling slightly unwell and thought I would do something nice." And there was that eye roll, all boxes were now filled. At least she had not that little, but still surprisingly powerful hit to the back of his head.
It did have its own reservation for when to be used. It was often when Jacaerys, Lucerys and y/n would be allowed to stand by as Rhaneyra handled certain things, the three would stand around to learn. Now, Jace and Luke did have a tendency to not always get along when standing next to one another, so therefore y/n would usually stand between them as it was always Luke who started it. But sometimes he was still able to start and annoy his older brother, slowly they would become increasingly annoying which would earn them a swift slap in the back of the head each by y/n.
There were times when Rhaenyra would hear the slaps both boys got to sort themselves out and act better mannered. But all she would see when Turning to the three would be y/n flattening out her dress as if nothing had happened with Jacaerys and Lucerys rubbing the back of their heads. It was a very good method to knock sense into the two.
"Oh it is nothing, just a bit of a headache. I will not survive, but you know your mother, she was quite persistent with me staying in bed for the day." She gave just the slightest smile. She sat with a few pillows behind her back and her covers over her legs to keep warm.
"Well, either way, not that fun is it?" Jacaerys asked as he, like normally, sat himself in the foot of her bed and then laid himself down on his side. Elbow propping him up.
"No, it is not. I can barely look out the window without my head hurting from the light." y/n moved over so she could smell the soup as it smelled absolutely delicious. Taking a quick whiff of the soup she could not help the smile on her face, her favourite soup. Yes it was Jacaerys who had told the kitchen to make her that.
"Be happy you get a quiet day  not having Joffrey running around and bothering you." Jace loved his younger brothers, yes, but his youngest brother could at times become that annoying little kid who would have a hundred questions that needed answers right then and there.
"He's no bother at all, I actually quite like how quick he is about things."
"Yes, but you have that little extra that makes you able to handle him. Much like mother can." It was no lie that Lucerys was easier for Jacaerys to understand as it was only about a year between the two.
"Hm, you're just being mean at this point." y/n told while holding the bowl with soup and taking a slurp of it. Letting out a satisfied hum.
"I am not, I'm simply pointing out that your headache must come from his constant blabbing."
They both laughed, much like they always did. As y/n calmed down and shook her head with that sweet smile on her face, one she had often been told was similar to her mother's, Jace could not help himself but just stare a little. A small smile tugging at his lips while watching as y/n took yet another slurp of her soup before putting the bowl on her bedside table.
When she turned back to say something to the prince he was only just looking at her. Soft smile, eyes never leaving her. It made y/n raise her brows at him, but the heat rising to her cheeks was on that was hard to ignore. But just for fun, she decided to keep eye contact trying to see if he would turn away first.
A grin began to form on Jacaerys face as he was having a hard time keeping eye contact. Even though he was very aware of his feelings, she had this thing about her that could make him cave, so he averted his eyes first.
"Ha, I win." y/n triumphantly said.
"Yes, yes."
"Did I hurt my dear prince? Oh, I'm so sorry," y/n dramatically apologised while grabbing his hand to be even more dramatic. Making the boy swat at her with his free hand but she did not let go of his hand.
"Will you ever stop with that?" She knew he was referring to him as a prince whenever she joked around with him, knowing Jacaerys was not too fond of being called that.
"Never, should have never told me you dislike the title."
"I realise that now."
y/n smiled as she still had his hand held between both of hers, her headache forgotten as she was not just alone with it. She was still sitting by the head of her bed but had gone from having her legs stretched out under the covers to sitting cross-legged, and leaving forward on her elbows while holding Jacaerys hand in hers.
"I do however appreciate the soup," And there was the thank you for bringing it. "Even though you are supposed to be doing other things which are more important."
"Oh, well, all for having you back in good health and so I won't have to handle my brothers alone."
y/n let out a short laugh, before giving the boy a simple kiss on his hand. It was something she did often, but the butterflies in his stomach always seemed to flutter even harder with their wings when she did so.
"I will make sure to be back to full health as soon as I can."
But she would never be back to full health again.
——
Her bedchamber was quiet as she only laid there, staying on the same spot in the ceiling as she had for the past few minutes. The moon stood high in the night sky and shone into her window, only a fire in the corner of her room gave some type of heat. It was all hard to grasp, it had just been so sudden that the idea of it came up.
She did not get better as she had hoped. No, it had been a good three weeks and everyday it was as if a bit of her life strength got taken away. Which proved to be what the Maester thought it had to be, though, no one actually knew what caused it all. She would not get better. Like her mother, y/n would slowly become worse and worse until her body would give up and she would pass on.
The Maester had insisted on keeping a close eye on the young lady over the following days but had slowly noticed how her getting worse was much like when her mother became sick.
So here she was, laying on top of her bed just thinking. She was not scared of death, that was the least of her worries but what would happen to all the people around her once her time came. How would it feel to slowly have life sucked out of you?
Everybody knew her fate at this point, seeing as it had been a week since she got to know that there was no way she would ever get better. Well, okay fine, there was one person who did not know, little Joffrey. y/n could never tell such a young boy that in probably a short time she would no longer live. She could never. Even though protests from Rhaenyra, Jacaerys and Lucerys, y/n was determined to keep active for as long as she could. Only Daemon had not said anything about the girl's choice to not stay in bed all day and just wait for her time, which she appreciated  honestly.
The sounds of footsteps outside in the corridor echoed loudly, clearly the guards from the sounds of their armour too that y/n had been able to learn to make out. But it was then the sound of a tapping sound that made her sit up, having gotten quite comfortable on her bed it felt like being pulled out of a good dream having to sit.
As she sat the tapping had gone quiet, but she stayed quiet. Sitting complaining still and looking around, waiting for another set of taps to see who of them it was. Only the sounds of wind outside and a few owls could be heard along with the footsteps outside her door. Then the combination of taps came once more: four rapid ones, then a two second pause and then three more rapid taps. Jacaerys.
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she stood up, walking over to the armchair that stood towards one of the walls near the fireplace. Her body ached but with all the strength she had she pushed the heavy armchair out of the way. Opening up the secret door that was in the wall, having gotten used to doing it hundreds of times since they arrived in Dragonstone.
"What are you even doing up at this hour?" The brunette boy in the passageway walked out and closed the wall behind him. Shrugging at the question.
"I couldn't sleep,'' was the answer she got as Jacaerys turned towards her. He was looking anywhere but at her, as if her chambers were any surprise to him. He had been in there more times than any person could count.
With a tired sigh, y/n moved towards her chaise that stood right by the fire. Grabbing a hold of the boy's sleeve to pull him with her. It did startle him a bit, the sudden pull on his sleeve.
Sitting down on the chair, Jacaerys looked a little perplexed at the girl. But she only looked at the space beside her to show he was allowed to sit down. Things had never been this tense or unsure between the two since they were small when y/n would always back off if Jace came too close. He sat down however, though he was a bit uncertain.
"Skoros iksis ziry bona jaelā? Nyke gīmigon konīr iksis mirrors." She looked into the fire while asking, High Valyrian being something she learnt over the years. What is it that you want? I know there is something.
He sat quiet for a few seconds, not knowing what to say. He honestly did not know himself why he was there, maybe it was the fact that in a few months she would not be there. "Skoro syt issi ao nykeēdrosa bē?" Why are you still up?
Clearly, Jacaerys wanted to avoid telling why he was there. Which was actually quite simple, he had gotten word from some guards that y/n had been wandering around at this hour for the past week. So he only wanted to check in on her, but it was also for his own comfort.
"Nyke otāpagon," She turned from looking at the fire to Jace who nodded his head in understandment. I'm thinking.
"Skoros nūmāzma?" What about?
"Morghon," Her answer made Jacaerys avert his eyes from her, looking on the floor but then into the fire. It was not often the prince felt that lump in his throat, the burning in his eyes to let his tears fall. Death.
"Issi... issi ao daor zūgagon?" In return he got a slight shake of the girl's head, making him wait for an explanation. Whether it would be in High Valyrian or the common tongue did not matter. Are.. are you not scared?
"Nyke pendagon ziry daoriot emagon naejot sagon zūgagon. Morghon iksis iā ñuhoso naejot gīmigon emā gaomagon aōhon isse se vys." I think it doesn't have to be feared. Death is a way to know you have done yours in the world.
Jacaerys did understand. Not all people did fear death, some did, but not everyone. But he could not come up with what to say next. Words stuck in his throat as he tried to say what he wanted. But y/n could easily see he was fighting the tears, the long blinking as to stop them told her that much. So as she always did, she grabbed one of his hands. Drawing his attention to her.
"Death does not scare me. But that does not mean I don't care for what will be of the rest of you." Her eyes never left his. "I care about your family, you have all done so much taking me in and I care about you. It does not scare me to die, it scares me to leave you behind. I don't want to."
None of them said a word. It would be a lie if I did not tell you y/n's eyes, for just a split second, flickered from his eyes down to his lips, but quickly back into his eyes once more. Her brows furrowed in a doleful way but had just a little smile on her face. Eyes teary as she stared at him. Jacaerys grabbed her hand just a bit tighter but only for a second before he let her hand go. Softly saying a "Come on," while holding his arm out for her to lay her head on his shoulder, which she did.
So they sat there in the comfort of one another. For how long, none of them knew, but y/n kept her head on his shoulder and Jace had his arm around her. Much like that one time, when they still lived in the Red Keep.
Just as Jacaerys had watched as Ser Harwin Strong walked off, having to leave due to the allegations made by the Queen, he had turned to his mother and asked her whether or not he was a bastard like everyone said. But he had been told off by his mother who told him he was of Targaryen and Velaryon blood, and that he was her son. Then he had been told by his mother to wait with Lucy and y/n who waited inside the chamber.
When little Jacaerys had walked back into the chamber, y/n was sitting next to Lucerys and rubbed his upper arm, both of the two saddened by the man leaving. So, Jace had walked up and sat between the two, arms around them as both Luke and y/n had their heads on a shoulder each.
But now it was not a person leaving the castle they were sad about, but one for the fact that she would leave the boy she secretly loved and people who had been her family for the majority of her life. The second was the knowledge that he would lose one of the only people who ever truly cared for him, and the person he wanted forever with.
——
"Should you not be down there with your brother?" Her question made Lucerys look down into the training court where Jacaerys was practising his swordsmanship. But he quickly looked away and shook his head, continuing to have his arm interlocked with the older girl.
"No,"
His answer made y/n stop. Standing to look down into the training court from where she stood, arm still interlocked with Lucerys who had been kind enough to offer her some company on her little walk around the castle. It was a daily thing, something that she did to keep staying active even though how much more exhausted she felt everyday.
y/n leaned on the stone wall in front of her and watched as the guard and Jacaerys fought, of course the guard was making sure not to hurt him. Lucerys came up beside her and too watched on. "Is there anything in particular as to why you don't want to train?"
The brunette did that face he always did when he had an answer that he felt unsure if he should say. His fingers tapped the stonewall as he thought about the answer. Feeling the nudge from y/n made him give in. Over the years he had known her, which was since he was two, he had always seen her as a sister. She could at times have the best of advice, make him feel less insecure about things or just overall be there as a person he could trust.
"Jace is a better swordsman than I will ever be," A glum expression on his face as he told what was bothering him.
"He might be," y/n stated, the boy had not expected that. "But you are a better dragonrider than your brother. Sure, he and Vermax do have a good bond and all but you and Arrax have that little extra for one another."
"But that is far from being enough if something is to happen."
"We can't all be good at everything. Can you imagine the world if all of us had dragons, chaos would likely be an everyday thing by then. That is why you Targaryens are good with dragons, and the rest of us are good at other things."
She placed a hand on his shoulder in a comforting manner. Lucerys turned from watching his brother disarm the guard to face y/n. Even though she smiled at him, he could see how tired she was and that whatever the cause of her declining health was was taking a toll on her. Yet she stayed as kind and understanding as she had always been.
He smiled just slightly at her before starting to help her continue walking around Dragonstone. They took it slow and just enjoyed the silence between them. But Lucerys could not help but notice the way y/n would occasionally glance down to the training court where Jacaerys was. The younger boy snorted.
It made y/n turn to him with questioning eyes to ask what was suddenly so funny to him. Eyebrows raised in question, but the lack of answer made her poke the young prince in the rib to make him turn and understand she had heard it. "What is suddenly so funny, Luke."
"It's nothing," He shook his head to not snort once more, but to no avail as he let out yet another snort.
"No I believe you have something to say,"
"It was just... who are you looking at down there?" Luke nodded with his head down towards where the training court was and the question caused the girl to act as if she had not just heard the question. "Is it Jace?
The question was asked with a wriggle of his brows as y/n continued to act as though she had not heard, eyes narrowing at a certain point in front of her to not break face. To have either Jacaerys, Lucerys or little Joffrey poke fun at her for something was something she had learnt to be quite annoying. The three brothers at times even teamed up against her, though Joffrey mostly was told by his older brothers what to do and otherwise was quite confused as to why they did it. But if his brothers told him to, he would do it.
Just as they passed a couple of guards and a maid, the guards noticed the girls' annoyed expression along with the face Lucerys had of enjoyment. But they all gave a "Lady y/n, Prince Lucerys" as they passed by slowly.
"Why is that any matter to you?" y/n finally spoke but did not answer the brunette question.
"Well he is my brother, and you are like a sister so I was just asking." No, he was not just asking.
"What if I was, would that matter?"
"It does matter, but I would not have a problem with it."
——
Rhaenyra carefully squeezed out the last bit of water from y/n's hair. Soft smile on her face as she placed a hand on the girl's shoulder, moving to instead of being behind her be beside the tub y/n was sitting in. Slight steam voting from the water she sat in which was just enough murky to cover her body up.
For the past few ten minutes, y/n had been sitting in the hot water to relax, the aches in her body had worsened over the past few weeks. Her body had gotten too weak and she was barely able to walk more than a few minutes without help. So Princess Rhaenyra had decided she would help the young girl have a nice bath to just relax.
"There," Rhaenyra said as she sat herself on the wooden stool beside the tub y/n sat in. Reaching out and brushing her knuckles along the h/c girls cheek. She could feel y/n lean into her touch.
The girl kept her head resting on her knees, eyes closing at times, letting the heat relax her body. Rhaenyra moving her hair from her face and just having a soft and sweet smile on her face.
When y/n was little and had just come to King's Landing it was often that the then young Princess of the Seven Kingdoms found herself sitting with the girl as she would let the woman take care of her. It was these times back then that had the two bond, y/n slowly becoming more and more comfortable with the woman and during the days she slowly warmed up to Leanor and the boys.
"What are you thinking about, my dear girl?" Rhaenyra leaned forward while moving for damp hair from the girl's face, being just as motherly towards her as she was to her boys.
"Do you think I will meet my parents and siblings in the afterlife?" She turned and faced the woman beside her who had no problem answering or talking about this. Rhaenyra knew y/n did not fear death, but only what would happen to everyone around her after her death.
"I think that if you want to meet them, then you will be able to meet them. But if you don't then you are not gonna be forced to,"
"I barely remember them." But y/n did not sound sad as she said that. "The only family I know is you and the boys. To me, you are my mother."
A sad smile broke onto the woman's face as she watched the girl. She was the daughter she never got, she was the daughter she had always wanted and Rhaenyra had raised her in a way that made her the way she was. She was proud of herself for how well she had raised the y/n.
"And you will forever be my girl, " Rhaenyra whispered to her with a smile, then giving her a kiss on the forehead. y/n had her chin resting on the edge of the tub now, looking at Rhaenyra with a smile. Happy to know she felt the same.
"I will leave you to just enjoy your bath, I'll come back in a few minutes and help you out." Rhaenyra stood up and just gently brushed y/ns cheek once more, earning a nod while she moved towards the door of the girls room. Walking out to leave her there for herself.
Just as she had closed her eyes, head on the edge of the tub to just let herself soak in the hot water. Yes, it was still surprisingly warm. Her mind had just begun to drift off, a feeling of security in her chest knowing that Rhaenyra cared for her as a daughter just as much as y/n loved and saw her as a mother. Her finger ran along the edge of the tub as she felt content where she was, even though her health was deteriorating.
It was then the sound of the door into her chambers opening which made her eyes snap open quickly. It could not have been that long that Rhaenyra was already coming to help her out of her bath. But in did not the silver haired woman come, no, in came a brunette boy that she knew all too well. His back towards her as he closed the door as gently as he possibly could.
"What in seven hells are you doing here?" Her voice startled the boy as he hurled around. Cheeks quickly turning a bright red colour as this was not how he had counted on to find her, averting his eyes.
"I was going to see how you were doing." He told and y/n hugged her knees a little closer to herself. Happy the water was murky enough to cover her from showing anything she did not want to show. Her shoulders and up being all that was visible except her knees that stuck out of the water.
"Are the guards not outside? I thought they knew I was bathing."
Jacaerys shook his head and finally turned his eyes towards y/n who did not seem as flustered as he did, according to himself. But in reality y/n was flustered, only thing being that she had it easier to hide that. "They were not there now, I think they might be switching with other guards."
"That explains it, otherwise I would be worried." y/n let out a breathy laugh making Jacaerys smile as he finally got the courage to walk closer.
y/n fiddled with her fingers above the water as the brunette sat down on the stool his mother had been sitting on just moments earlier. If it was one thing y/n did not worry about was Jacaerys staring at her some place she would not want to nor do something inappropriate, like his uncle Aegon. Whom she did not exactly like now when she had in recent years gotten word of what he did to the poor maids and servant girls. He had been quite okay before they left King's Landing, not the best but better than he was now.
y/n turned to face the boy, he was clearly still flustered. Cheeks painted in a crimson colour as his brown eyes looked everywhere but at her, she knew he was afraid to make her uncomfortable otherwise. It did come in handy having known one another for such a long time. It was amusing.
"You know, this is not the smartest idea you have ever had and you are usually quite intelligent."
"I know,"
"But I actually think what makes this even worse is that your mother is going to come back soon so staying is not exactly a good idea either." Her tone of voice made a smile tug at Jacaerys lips, finally turning his head towards y/n.
"You think?" Feeling bold, he leaned closer with his head. He could no longer go on and just feel bad about what was coming y/n's way and not tell her, it had to be done before her time was up.
"Yeah,"
For a moment, they both just looked at one another. Eyes locked, the smallest of smiles on their faces while looking at one another. None of them no longer felt that there was no need to hide how they felt.
The girl reached out and brushed some of Jaces brunette hair away from his face. Eyes then flip down to his lips, for once she did not look away, not ashamed nor scared he would notice. She wanted him to notice. Slowly, so, so slowly she leaned in, hand resting on his shoulder as she connected their lips. Shocking the boy as his heart started to beat a hundred times faster than before. But he still closed his eyes. It was a soft and sweet kiss. One that was filled with untold feelings. But it was rather quick, lasting just a little more than ten seconds.
When they parted y/n had to bite back a grin as she leaned her chin on the edge of the tub again watching as Jacaerys opened his eyes once more, a smile slowly growing on his face
"I think I like that," He told her.
"You think?" y/n asked with a playful tone, earning a chuckle in response.
"Okay, I know I like that."
——
"Why is this important?" y/n looked up at the brunette who stood in front of her where she sat in the bed. Holding the piece of glass between her fingers, making sure not to cut herself.
Yet again, as for the past four weeks, Jacaerys had sneaked into her chambers through the secret passage between their rooms. But this time he had come and showed her a piece of glass, which made y/n frown as she had inspected it. Sitting on the edge of her bed as she would not be able to stand up without help. Her body is too weak at this point to hold her up.
Jacaerys heart was running wild, beating as if he had just been running for his life and not stopped. He could feel it against his ribcage, each beat hammering against his ribs, it was hard to not notice. He could even hear it beating in his ears, barely able to make out what y/n had said over his beating heart.
"Dragonglass," Was the answer y/n got to her question. It made her brows furrow even deeper while she carefully ran a finger over its edge to feel how sharp it was. Almost cutting her own finger but luckily she did not.
She swore she knew it had some type of importance, every part of her brain worked to dig up the memory of why it was so significant and in what scenario she had heard the use of it. The gears turned steadily at first but the more she thought about it  the faster they began to turn in her head. Lastly she found the connection, now coming to understand the significance of dragonglass.
She now understood and her lips parted just a bit as she stared at the piece of glass. Then turning her eyes to look up at Jacaerys who still stood in front of where she sat. She had found the importance of this type of glass shard. Sure, dragonglass could be used for weapons and so much more but y/n knew the use of it in old Valyrian traditions.
"I want it to be me and you, forever. No matter what, it has always been you," He explained, gently holding her chin so she looked up at him. Thumb ghosting over her bottom lip to right down by the middle. The way to cut one's lip with the hard of glass.
She did not know what to say, only looking up at him. With the way her health was going it was clear to her that she did not have much longer. It was not something that would be legitimate, doing it this way, but the both of them would at least know their bloodlines forever ro be connected.
So without saying a word she held out the glass shard to Jacaerys to take, which he did, fingers brushing with hers as he took it. He did not need a verbal answer as he knew that if she thought it to be a bad idea she would reject it outwardly, but she had not.
He kept holding her chin gently, and just for a second he looked to see if she had anything to say, but her eyes told him to do it. So he did. With a little force, he cut open her lower lip right by the middle. y/n's brows twitching a bit at the slight pain from the cut. Her blood painted the shard of glass red.
When Jacaerys had done that, he held out his hand for y/n to take, helping her stand up from her place on the bed. Her legs weak as she stood, getting handed the shard at the same time. Jace moved his hands to her waist, holding her close as to be able to help her stand if her legs would start to give in on her.
y/n gently placed on hand on his jaw, eyes focused on his lips as she placed the already blood coated shard against his lower lip, reciprocating what he did on her. Cutting his lower lip. Jacaerys eyes intensely focused on y/n, watching as she did not meet his eyes. The feeling inside was one he was unable to describe.
The girl then as she had cut his lower lip moved her hand from his jaw, opening it between the little space between them and placed the shard against her skin. Breaking it and letting blood seep out. The blood that ran down her hand she pressed her thumb into to get blood on it, then turned her gaze up to meet Jacaerys brown eyes.
A tiny smile on her lips as she pressed her thumb against his forehead, leaving a bloody thumbprint between his brows. Holding her hand that she had cut still as she handed the shard back to Jacaerys once more.
He did the exact same, cutting his hand with the piece of dragonglass. Then getting some blood on his thumb and pressing a mark onto the girls' forehand as well.
They both then held their hands that they had cut together, it did sting just a bit but not too bad. Foreheads connecting as they both closed their eyes. This was what he wanted, to know that they would forever be bound to one another. It would always be the two of them. No matter what. So he could not keep the smoke on his face from growing.
"How long does forever mean?" y/n spoke for the first time in what seemed like an eternity, forehead still connected with Jacaerys and their eyes still closed.
"What do you mean?"
"Does forever mean all of our life until death, or does it mean all our life and even in the afterlife?" Jacaerys let out a short breathy laugh at her.
"Hopefully all of our life and even in the afterlife," He admitted his hopes, opening his eyes but not discontinued their foreheads.
"Then I want it to be us forever," She too opened her eyes, eyes tired yet filled with happiness.
Without second thought they connected their lips that had started to slowly heal from being cut open. They would be forever. They would be one flesh, one heart, one soul, now and forever. Not even death was to take away their forever.
Even though her death came sooner than anyone had liked. But he, Jace, knew they were concerned forever. No matter if others did not, he knew and he was the only one that needed to know that.
But his death would not come much later than hers, making them reunite and get their forever.

Hope you all enjoyed this, it took much longer than I thought it would to think it all out and write. Anyway, my requests are open for Jacaerys, Lucerys and maybe some Aemond I'm okay with. I might even cave and write for Aegon but he'll be very much non-canon then

For the past hour and half, y/n had been standing in a window of the hallway down by the courtyard. Why? Well, it just was absolutely hilarious to watch the first years try to make their way towards the Great Hall for dinner, only to walk in the wrong direction. It had over the six years she'd spent at Hogwarts become something she found funny. Or, to be honest, she did not really start the tradition before third year when she had spotted Fred and Gerorge Weasley doing it.
y/n had simply asked the twins what in the world they had been doing only for the older boys to help her into the open window towards the courtyard. Telling her to just watch the first years wander around in pure chaos with McGonagall in the middle of it, yelling out directions and just making sure students knew their way about.
But the fun had ended when almost all the first years had understood in which direction the Great Hall was in and made their way there. That was how she now sat in the Great Hall among all the other Gryffindor students, picking at her food. Quite bored.
It seemed that every year the first year students would shoot glances at the quartet from the red and golden house. Of course having heard of the boy with a lightning scar gracing his face and his three friends that always seemed to be in the middle of it all.
So the looks from younger students no longer affected them as Ron kept eating on without batting an eyelash at them. Hermione had just finished looking around as if she was looking for somebody.
y/n sighed as she took a last bite of her chicken, pushing the rest on her plate to Ron who accepted what she hadn't touched. "Do you guys think this year will be chaotic too?"
"It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case," Ron answered the h/c girl from his side of the table.
"I guess I would be more worried if something didn't happen than if something does happen." y/n said and Ron nodded along before going back to his plate with food.
Hermione turned back to the table with a deep frown creasing her forehead. It catches the attention of y/n as she looks at the bushy haired girl with a questioning look. "What is wrong, Mione?"
Of course, many things were wrong for her. Lavender and Ron seemed to have a thing going on, something that was shocking for it only being the first four days of school. Hermione was also constantly worrying for her muggle parents' safety with all that was going on.
"Do you know where Harry is, y/n?" It made the e/c eyed girl stop and think. No she didn't.
"No, I haven't seen him since potions earlier."
Hermione sighed as she glanced around the Great Hall again only to not see the raven-haired boy anywhere. Looking back at y/n, she shrugged her shoulders, but it was obvious in Hermione's eyes that she was quite worried for Harry.
Ron, however, continued eating and aimlessly looking around like nothing was wrong and that clearly didn't sit correct with Hermione. She picked up her potions book that had laid beside her and hit his shoulder, between every hit she said:
"Why," Hit. "Are" Hit. "You" Hit. "Not" Hit "Worried?!"
It made y/n almost wanna laugh, as Ron just turned to her with questioning eyes, then flickering over Hermione's shoulder as he seemed to spot something. Hermione's brows were still furrowed as she stopped her little outburst. Ron seems to think of a way to tell her off without angering her even more.
"Because he's right there, you lunatic!" Ron swallowed and motioned towards the Great Hall's entrance.
Hermione turned quickly, y/n following suit as she was just wondering where the boy had been. But as they turned, something was off.
Harry walked with his head down slightly, holding something up to his nose. As he passed some other students he got a few side glances. When y/n really focused she could without hesitation day that he was bleeding, whatever he pressed to his nose was bloodied down and his white dressed shirt had quite a few red blotches on it.
"What happened to him?" Hermione leaned over the table to see better.
"Why is he bleeding?" y/n turned and casted a slightly worried eye to her two friends.
Harry still kept his eyes low so as to not get any unwanted attention on himself even though that mission had failed, poorly. He let out an annoyed grunt as he sat down on the empty seat next to y/n, still pressing the cloth to his bleeding nose.
"What happens to your face?!" Hermione's overly protective side immediately came out just as he sat down at the table. "Who did that to you?"
Ron did not exactly look worried, he almost looked kinda proud as it seemed Harry was not as hurt as he could have been if he had now been fighting someone. y/n was inspecting his face from where she sat beside him, trying to just make sure that it was no more than a nosebleed. Eyes looking for already forming bruises, swelling, just anything that could indicate he should go to Madame Pomfrey.
"Does that honestly matter, Hermione?" Harry asked with an agitated tone of voice, picking up the goblet in front of him with water and taking a sip. Momentarily removing the cloth from his nose.
y/n was quick however as she reached over to take the cloth and hold it for him. Not the least affected by the red blood covering it.
"You disappeared without a word for almost two hours!" Hermione hissed at him.
"It's no use, Mione, he won't tell." Harry was happy that y/n had that little extra understanding for him. She knew when to stop pushing things and when he just would not tell any more.
Hermione shrank back into the seat with a sigh and started to flip through her potions book, trying to find the page with the homework for next week so she could already know the questions and then do it later. Ron had only stood up and patted Harry on the shoulder before he sat down and went back to eating and reading the Daily Prophet that laid on the table.
"Here, fighter." y/n joked as she pressed the cloth gently to Harry's nose again, having noticed a little blood starting to trickle down again.
It took the green-eyed boy by surprise as the cloth met his nose once more, eyes moving over to see y/n just sitting there with that gentle and sweet smile felt. He did not know why he had done what he did, it was not like him to be so impulsive. But it was just something about the way he had heard him, Mattheo Riddle, tell that no way in hell would he walk up and ask y/n to hang out.
Over the summer months, Harry had been thinking long and hard about things. For five years he had been close friends with y/n. Five years of adventure. Five years of laughter. Five years of a friend that understood him better than he almost understood himself. He was far from sure exactly how he felt for her, but he cared for her more than many others. He felt the need to make sure she would not be put in dangerous situations. That was where he had started to think that maybe... just maybe it wasn't friendship he felt between them. But how could he be so sure, him, Harry James Potter, the boy who never really knew his own feelings towards things and people.
y/n noticed the way it looked as though he was deep in thought, it caused a bigger smile pull on her face. Harry always looked a bit funny to her when he was thinking. She shook her head a little at him and carefully removed the cloth from his face to see if the bleeding had stopped, which made Harry snap out of his deep thinking.
"Does it still hurt?"
"No it's fine," Harry gave a tight-lipped smile to the Whittier girl as he took the cloth from her. "Thanks,"
"Good, it no problem— Bloody hell!" y/n moved her head so she could see better, her eyes had gone a bit wide, mouth slightly agape as she looked shocked behind Harry.
Her exclamation had made not only Harry, Ron and Hermione look as with confused faces but those who sat close to them too. That being Ginny, Neville, Dean, Seamus, a few older students and some from the Hufflepuff table.
"What?" Ron was clearly quite perplexed at the sudden outburst from the usually calm girl. Looking around to try and spot what she saw.
"I think I found the other fighter." y/n nodded behind Ron and Hermione who sat with their backs towards the entrance of the Great Hall. "Look behind you."
And as they turned, sure enough, there he was. Mattheo Riddle has just entered the Great Hall and clearly noticed the quartet looking at him. His face was bloodiest down, blood under his nose drying and a scratch across his nose that was bleeding. Just like Harry's uniform, Mattheos were also bloodied down.
Harry glanced at the boy who he had a problem with ever since starting at Hogwarts. Sure, Mattheo was the son of the man who took Harry's parents from him but it still was strange as to how much he disliked him. Mattheo had never really done anything and was probably the least problematic of the Slytherin gang.
y/n could see Mattheo glare at Harry before he rolled his eyes and walked over towards his friends at the silver and green table. Clearly not bothered by the looks he got from other students. All of their looks different. Some were judgmental, as if they knew this was truly who he was. Some wondered since when he got physical with someone as Mattheo was more a verbal person than physical person. Some seemed intrigued, mostly the first years who were interested in all the older students.
"You fought Mattheo Riddle?! Are you mad? " Hermione leaned over the table with a baffled face but her eyes were stern on Harry.
Harry only shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe."
"My question is why?" y/n cut in either wide eyes as she turned to Harry and awaited his answer. The boy only opened his mouth as if to tell her something, but after a second thought he closed his mouth and only looked at her. Quiet, not answering her question.
Not getting a response from Harry was something she never really got. Therefore not getting one made her shake her head and just turn away from him with an exasperated expression. Hearing the bickering between Harry and Hermione continuing and Ron chiming in at certain times only to then let out a yelp when Hermione smacked him with her book.
She then turned, upper body rotating so she could see behind her over towards the other side of the hall. She had the luck of no Hufflepuffs sitting right behind her so she could see over towards the Slytherin table better. But as she spotted the person she had been turning to see she noticed his dark brown eyes already fixated on her.
Mattheo didn't listen to his friends who were all asking to know how he ended up looking the way he did. Only pulling his arm away when Pansy grabbed it and tried to hold his hand. Not in the mood.
His eyes stayed focused on y/n as she had turned. She, unlike many others, looked at him with just a perplexed face and not one of hate. As if she were only trying to figure out what had gone down. Mattheos stare was broken however by Theodore Nott, his elbow meeting his ribs.
"The hell do you want?" Mattheo turned to Theodore who held up his hands in retreat and shook his head.
"You know, we're just checking in on our best mate, who looks like he lost by the way." Theodore sarcastically commented ro Mattheo who took a last glance at y/n, seeing her turn at Ron saying something.
"What the hell happened to you mate?" Blaise asked from the other side of the table.
Mattheo only shook his head and picked up his goblet to take a sip of water. Pansy turned so she sat faced fully towards Mattheo and looked him over. "Honestly, I don't remember your ever being someone to become physical when mad,"
"Maybe that's because no one gives me a reason to." Mattheo rolled his eyes at the dark haired girl, not seeing the look she pulled as she turned back to Daphne Greengrass.
"No but seriously, mate, was it you and Potter? He walked in not looking much better, although he still looked better than you." Enzo said from beside the sulking platinum blonde of the group.
Mattheo didn't answer and only continued picking out what he wanted to eat. For six, almost seven years he had known who she was. He remembered her as if they were nine just yesterday and he asked her about her book. Every day after that, he thought of her and just how sweet she was. Many times he had run off from the boys home to try and see if she were there, but he never saw her again.
Not until he saw her standing next to a bushy haired girl at the age of eleven. Only, when he introduced himself to her as they walked into the Great Hall and he happened to walk next to her, she only smiled and told her name to him. No recognition, but maybe that would hit her later. But it never did.
"Did it have with Wittiher to do?" Blaise then hit his head on the nail, causing Mattheo to stop and click his tongue.
"Maybe."
"Are you actually gonna do shit about that little crush of yours on her or just sit around this year too?"
Enzo got no answer, but Mattheo was sure as hell not about to not do anything. That he was sure of.

The smell of books, old and new, was strong as she walked into Flourish and Blotts. The smell of books had long been her favorite. During her nine almost ten years in the world, y/n had always loved whenever her aunt, Gail Wittiher, would come home with new books and they smelled just like books did or more like they should, according to the young girl. Earthy and woody.
On long days when she would be at home, her aunt Gail, out for work, and her second aunt, Janice, working in her office, little y/n would go into the small library her aunts kept in the small flat. Closing the doors and just sitting down on the floor.
The smell of books and candles seemed to have been embedded into the wallpaper of the room as it never seemed to become less strong. She would sit on the rug in the little home library and just listen to the grandfather clock tick each second by.
So, entering the cozy bookshop in Diagon Alley was always going to be one of her favourite things to do with her aunts.
Aunt Janice held onto the young girl's hand gently, just to make sure she was by her side and wouldn't wander off into the busy alley. It crawled with Hogwarts students getting their robes, books, wands, cauldrons, brass scales, and so much more needed according to the shopping list students got from the school.
Janice Wittiher knew that her wife's niece had a love for books. Whether it was reading them, the smell of them or just being around them, the nine year old loved them. This was why she had decided that instead of teaching the girl what every child growing up in a wizarding family needed to know before Hogwarts she took her on a little trip to Flourish and Blotts.
"Now," Janice turned to the y/n who excitedly looked around. "I have to get myself a few books for work, you're allowed to get two books today. I'll be down here if you need me. Understood?"
"Yep! Two books, no more." The h/c girl answered as she loosened her grip on her aunt's hand to go and look around.
"Remember, be respectful of other customers and for the love of Merlin, be careful." Janice sighed as she knew the girl had a tendency to be a bit of a clumsy kid.
"Understood, aunt Jani!" y/n immediately padded away towards the stairs that led up to her favorite section, astronomy. Janice stood up from her crouching position and shook her head, but still a smile adored her face before she went to find her books.
y/n found that the astronomy section of books always had her marvel. It was aunt Gail that had happened to mention something about supernovas during dinner which had her ask more. Having both her aunts read books for her about the wonders of the universe. Everything from galaxies to asteroids.
Her eyes skimmed over the bookcases, for such a young girl she knew how to read very well and therefore found it easy to search for that one book. Atlas of Celestial Anomalies was the book she desperately wanted to own and have her aunts read for her.
The floorboards creaked as she walked over them on the upper level, even though her young mind closed out the outside world, she could still hear the bell to the door go off whenever someone entered or exited. She could hear people talking in the background on the lower level.
"Ah, haha!" y/n cheered lowly for herself as she found the book. Thankfully it was on a lower shelf which made taking it easier. It was a hardback, bound with a blue color. On the spine The name Atlas of Celestial Anomalies read in gold. She looked at it with big eyes and hugged it to her chest. Happy to finally have it.
"What is that?" A voice broke her inner cheering. A boy's voice. She turned with a confused face to where the voice had come from.
She came face-to-face with a boy, around her age, if y/n were to guess. He had curly dark hair, pale skin and dark brown eyes, like dark chocolate.
"What?"
"What's that? What you're holding." The boy pointed towards the book she still hugged towards her body tightly.
"Oh, a book." The boy's face turned up in confusion at that. Were books new to him? No it couldn not, everyone had heard about books, y/n was certain about that.
"A book? Those are boring." He then told and it almost made y/n drop her jaw.
"Nah ah, they're the best."
"Not really."
"Yes they are. What is so much better then?" She was not about to have anybody disrespect books like that. They were her absolute favourite thing invented, except muggle TV.
"These," The dark haired boy pulled out two comics from behind him to show her. It made y/n shrug. She didn't exactly have a problem with comics, they were quite fine in y/n's mind to read when her aunts and her were on a train on their way somewhere. Since the two women then usually were not that very up to reading and explaining some things.
"They're okay, but I still prefer books over comics."
"What's that even about?" He was truly interested in what she was reading. And even more interested since the book was at least about four hundred pages from what he could see.
"Astronomy or astrology, I'm not really sure which." y/n furrowed her brows and tapped the book.
"Sounds cool," He actually didn't exactly know what either of that was. "What's your name? I'm Mattheo Riddle."
y/n smiled at him as he held out his hand for her to shake, something Mattheo had seen many grown-ups do when greeting each other. She happily took his hand in hers and shook it. "I'm y/n, y/n Wittiher."
Mattheo and y/n then proceeded to both look through each other's finds at Flourish and Blotts. Sitting down next to each other on a bench on the upper level.
Mattheo would flip to one side of his comic and both would gasp at the amazingly done art as it moved, then y/n would flip to a side in her book where drawings of different constellations were displayed. Both of them marvel at each other's finds.
It was that typical thing for most children, you meet someone your age, talk a little and then it's like the two of you are best friends, even though you've just met.
It had been quite a while now, maybe a good thirty minutes since y/n and Janice entered the shop. Janice had just found all the books she needed for her research but when she tried to locate y/n it was near impossible.
"Excuse me," A man in his late thirties walked up to Janice and tapped her on her shoulder. She turned and put her books down on a stool close to her.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" Janice asked with a sweet tone.
"Well yes," The man scratched his nose. "I am looking for a boy, you might not have seen him?"
At the face Janice pulled the man sighed and instead got more detailed. "He's nine, almost ten, about this tall," He held a hand to show the boy's approximate height. "Dark hair, pale and dark eyes?"
"No, I haven't seen him. I'm sorry." Janice smiled apologetically. "I'm actually looking for my wife- eh friend's niece."
The man scratched his nose once again and looked around. Odd. It was very odd according to both adults. But at least Janice knew she y/n were in the shop, it was just exactly where she was.
"Oh, well, I'm thankful-"
But he didn't have time to fully thank Janice for listening before he spotted the curly haired boy and h/c girl walk down from the second level. "Mattheo Riddle, what on earth are you doing?"
The mention of the name Riddle made Janice turn in a rush with a gasp, that last name was something Gail had mentioned a lot about ten years ago. But when she turned, she was shocked to find y/n standing next to a curly haired boy, confusion written all over her face as the boy, who had to be Mattheo Riddle, looked like a deer caught in headlights.
"I ehm... Mr. Martin.." Mattheo trailed off and quickly tried to hide the comics.
Mr Martin did not hesitate to walk promptly up to the Riddle boy and snatch the comics out of his hands. y/n was quickly pulled off to the side by Janice who held her close to her side. They both watched as Mattheo protested to the man about the comics, claiming he had enough money himself to buy it but Mr Martin was not having it.
"You, boy," Mr Martin placed a hand on the back of Mattheos neck and held him steadily. "Do not argue with me. Now, lets go."
His voice was firm as he started to lead Mattheo out of Flourish and Blotts. But the curly haired boy, though in slight pain from the man's grip, casted a last glance at y/n.
y/n smiled at him sadly and waved. But she was quickly stopped by Janice who grabbed her hand to stop her from waving, Mattheo sent her a last small smile. "Stop that." Janice told her off.
With that, Mattheo was out the door with Mr Martin leading him. And now Janice was quickly in front of the girl and looking her over like she was a lunatic. "What in the world were you doing with that boy, y/n?"
"He just asked me about my book and showed me his comics." y/n said helplessly, not understanding why this was such a big deal or why Mr Martin was so angry at Mattheo.
"I do not want you to speak with him ever again if you see or meet him."
"Why, what has he done?"
"That boy is trouble," Janice moved to pick up her books to pay, then grabbing y/ns book and inspecting it before moving towards the counter.
"How's so?" y/n were not finished with her questioning as she followed towards the counter.
"He just is. Now, you ought to forget him."
And she did forget him. She forgot how he looked, how he sounded, how nice he was to her and most of all, she even forgot his name. But not willingly or what others would call the "natural" way.

H. POTTER X F!READER
Synopsis It's hard to stay cool when the girl you have a crush on is right there beside you.
Word Count: 2.2k
Tumblr media
Harry and Ron yawned in unison as they walked through the woods, following Arthur Weasley, who was in the lead, with Charlie and Fred and George close at his heels, Ginny and Hermione in the middle, and lastly, the two boys. Now, both of them were excited for the Quidditch World Cup, don't get them wrong, but this whole waking up before the crack of dawn to Hermione throwing pillows at them was not exactly their favourite part of it all.
The morning, however, had been all but calm, Molly had heard Fred and George trying to smuggle Ton-Tongue Toffees out of the house to sell, even after they got scolded for what happened with Dudley. Harry's cousin having eaten one that Fred and George dropped with the intent of him eating it, causing Dudley's tongue to grow in size. This made Molly yell at the two twins just before they left.
The woods were calm in the early summer morning, with fog still on the ground. Birds had started to wake up, and you could hear them sing as they flew above the tree tops. Harry had to admit that the woods close to the burrow were quite cozy. But he was broken from his own thoughts as Ron poked him and pointed out how far back from the others they were. Jogging to catch up with the others.
"Arthur!" The boys then heard a man call out. "It's about time, son."
"Sorry Amos, some of us got a bit of a sleepy start." Arthur jokingly looked back at Ron, who yawned.
It then dawned on Harry when they came closer that it was Amos Diggory and Cedric Diggory who stood there. Harry had talked to Amos once before when the man was happy over Hufflepuffs' win last year. However, this meant another person should be there, so Harry started to look around for her.
"This is Amos Diggory, everyone. Works with me, at the Ministry. " Arthur said proudly and then turned to the brown-haired boy beside the man. "This strapping young lad must be Cedric, am I right?"
Cedric smiled at the man and extended his hand to shake hands with Arthur, smiling brightly. "Yes, sir." He answered before looking up at the big tree above them.
"y/n? Are you coming or what?" Cedrict asked his sister, who had gone unnoticed, where she sat up in the tree. When Harry spotted the girl, he smiled.
y/n grinned at her brother before she tossed down her backpack for him to catch and jumped down so she landed beside Amos. Making sure her stance was stable before she straightened out.
"Well, that's quite and entrance y/n." Arthur put a hand in her shoulder and she smiled.
"Thank you."
"Alright, this way." Cedric spoke up as he started motioning towards where they were going to go. So everyone started walking, and just before Cedric got too far, he tossed the backpack back to his sister.
"You carry your own shit," He told her.
"Cedric," Amos warned the boy, and he held up his hands in retreat and showed the others the way.
y/n was just about to join in and walk with Harry when her dad stopped him. He was amazed to have Harry Potter himself with them, and she could see Harry glancing over at her. She shrugged at him and joined Hermione and Ginny.
"I don't remember your brother being so good-looking, y/n." Hermione hooked her arm through y/n's.
"Ew, Mione. That's my brother. Plus he's way too old for you."
"Who says he's too old?" Ginny asked with a raised brow, and it made y/n groan.
"Are you aware that we can hear you?"Fred then turned to the girls.
"And if we can, then Cedric probably can too." Geroge chimed in.
"Yeah, well, ego boost for him then, I guess." y/n rolled her eyes and unhooked her arm from Hermione when she saw her dad walk past to catch up with Arthur. She slowed her steps and, quite quickly, was at Harry's side.
They both started to engage in conversation with one another. They talked about everything from the joke candy and things that Fred and George had been making or trying out during the summer to this mystery thing that was to happen at Hogwarts during the year. Harry joined in with all that he heard from Arthur and y/n told all that she had gathered from her dad. They're both thinking about what it could be.
But the topic soon changed to Quidditch. Of course, Harry was proudly standing with Bulgaria, but y/n were strongly against this. She was rooting for Ireland. They talked back and forth about why their team had to win. "Bulgaria has Viktor Krum. He's the best seeker of all."
"Oh please, he's all looks. Plus, Bulgaria play dirty most of the time; they're like the equivalent of when Flint was still captain of the Slytherin team. "
"No they don't!" Harry argued back, and it made Ron turn.
"You have no idea what you're talking about y/n, Viktor Krum will make sure Bulgaria wins." Ron spoke proudly, the boy being starstruck by the well-known seeker.
"Well, Ireland has Connolly," Fred piped in.
"And Quigley." Geroge also joined in.
"See!" y/n motioned towards the twins. "Fred and George are on my side; Ginny and even Hermione, who's not into Quidditch all that much, are rooting for Ireland. You and Ron are literally the only people who are hoping Bulgaria wins just because you're in love with Viktor Krum. "
A whole argument started between all the Weasley kids, Harry and y/n. All of those who were for Ireland were arguing back and forth with the two boys and counting up reasons as to why Ireland was going to win. It was all just fun, ending with all seven of them starting to laugh.
After a little while, they had been walking for a good hour already. Harry was about to say something to y/n but instead when he turned to her, he instead got fixated on her. Eyes looked over her features, having missed her over the summer. He could feel his cheeks slowly growing warmer and warmer the more he looked at her, and soon enough he had to avert his eyes from her as it felt like his face was on fire. Harry was quite sure his cheeks were red, but he hoped to Merlin they weren't.
Surely enough, they reached the portkey, although it made Harry frown as they walked closer, as he had no idea what a portkey was. "Just over there." Amos told everyone, and Harry's frown deepened at the sight of an old boot.
Harry tugged at y/n's sleeve before asking her. "Why are they all standing around that manky old boot?"
"That isn't just any manky old boot, mate," George cut in before y/n could answer.
"It's a portkey," Fred finished as he, George, and y/n moved into position.
"Time to go!" Arthur called.
"What's a portkey?" Harry was confused.
"Ready? After three. One, two," Amos started counting, but y/n quickly looked up at Harry.
"Harry!" And with that, Harry grabbed onto the boot.
"Three."
It all started to spin, or more like they all started to spin. Slowly but surely, they lifted up from the ground up into the sky, still spinning around. Everyone except Cedric, Amos, and Arthur screamed at the continued spinning. Though the twins were screaming in cheer.
When Arthur then suddenly told them all to let go of the boot, they all clinged onto it like a life line, making all except the older Diggorys go wide-eyed. Hermione immediately protested, even though she was slowly feeling sick to her stomach from the continued spinning. They all, however, did as the man had instructed them to and all dropped to the ground. Then, hitting the ground, all of them groaned and huffed at the sudden impact of the ground.
y/n looked up from where she lay on her stomach, coming to find that Harry was only about a metre away from her. "Ouch,"
Harry sat up and nodded at her, and when he turned he could see Amos, Cedric, and Arthur, all three coming down much more gracefully than any of the others. They are certain to land on their feet. All of them were grinning from how funny all the others had landed. "I bet that cleared your sinuses, ey?" Arthur asked as the three of them landed.
Cedric was quick to help Harry get on his feet, extending an arm for him to get pulled up. Earing a smile from the younger boy as he went to help his sister. "Oh, how nice of you, Ced."
"Aw, did my baby sister get hurt?" Cedric asked sarcastically. He pulled her up to stand too, and both of them laughed. The bantering between them was just a big joke to them.
"Come on!" Arthur called as he started to walk up the hill to where camp was. It made y/n smile brightly as she immediately grabbed Harry's arm and pulled him along. "You're going to love this!" It made Harry flush a crimson colour as she pulled him along with her to join the others.
Oh god did he like her.

The sun had begun to set over the field where the Quidditch World Cup was being held. The sky turned orange and was slowly becoming a dark blue that would make the stars and constellations of other solar systems visible. It was still pretty warm out, not overly warm but warm enough that not a lot of clothes were needed to keep warm.
People were making their way to their seats. Many had chosen to sit in the boxes in the middle of the stadium. It was a stadium bigger than Harry had ever seen. Now, he was not exactly looking to play Quidditch professionally, but to play at a stadium like this would definitely be something unforgettable.
All of them were looking around in amazement while making their way further up, Arthur in the lead. They were on their way to the top, which was a wise decision. If they were to stay by the boxes, they would have to squeeze together with other people. But if they were to be furthest up in the stadium, they would not have to fight for space with others and would have better sight than others.
"Blimey dad, how far up are we?" Ron asked as they stopped from having been climbing from the lowest level and were about thirty stories below the top.
Just as Arthur was about to answer, another man's voice cut in. One that they all knew very well and one that made Harry roll his eyes. "Well, put it this way, if it rains, you'll be the first to know." Lucius Malfoy smiled evilly at them.
y/n and Harry stood by the railing, looking down at Lucius and Draco, who were on the lower level. It was unusual to see Draco without his slytherin uniform. Instead, he was wearing a black suit, which did not seem at all practical. Draco laughed at his father's statement.
When they started to continue walking, Draco looked up at the others and smirked. "Father and I are in the minister's box, by personal invitation from Cornelius Fudge himself."
"Don't beast, Draco." Lucius stopped Draco with his cane, making the boy rub the spot where the cane had laned. "There's no need with these people."
Draco then looked up at them again. When he saw y/n however, a sly smile made its way to his lips. It was no news to most people that Draco Malfoy had taken an interest in the Hufflepuff girl. However, y/n had zero clue about that. The look Draco gave y/n made Harry roll his eyes. A feeling of annoyance was bubbling up inside him. No, not annoyance, but jealousy.
Before the two Malfoys could say anymore, Harry grabbed y/n's shoulder and started to turn her around so they could wall off. But Lucius Malfoy was not done as he slammed the snake part of his cane down on Harry's hand before it could leave the railing. It made y/n and the others turn just like Harry.
"Do enjoy yourself. While you can. " Lucius smiled unkindly at Harry before relinquishing his hand and walking off with Draco at his heels. But Dracos' eyes still stayed tranced to y/n.
"Are you all right, Harry?" Arthur asked.
"Yeah, just fine."
"Well, let's keep moving then. "We don't want anyone taking our place, do we?"Amos called from where he stood, and everyone began working their way up the stairs.
"Are you sure you're fine?" y/n turned to Harry as they waited to start climbing the stairs.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Nothing big. " Harry stuttered as he once more felt his cheeks heat up. But this time, it seemed like y/n noticed and it made him avert his eyes from her.
y/n smiled as she quickly gave him a peck on the cheek, taking the boy by surprise. "Good, now come on."
Harry couldn't fight the grin that broke out on his face when y/n turned and grabbed a hold of his hand to start wall up the stairs.
Oh boy.
