Aurenite armor is the most effective way of protecting yourself in the heat of battle. The golden material not only is extremely resistant to solar plasma, but it is also physically resilient against solar-powered melee weapons. Its high durability warrants great protection to the owner, which is often boosted by arcane-denying runes of guarding carved inside and out. Tipically, armor made from this kind of metal is ludicrously expensive: Armies only field them in a limited capacity, often as smaller units (cuirassiers). Although a full set of armor is reasonably heavy, people who use them frequently have to adapt their physique to be able to comfortably wear it without being weighed down, making users of aurenite armor tipically be physically stronger.
The weight of the armor and its cost also makes it difficult for there to be mount armor. Although barding can be used in a limited capacity (higher ranking officials and noblemen), the majority of cavalrymen who wear aurenite armor do not also possess armor for their mounts, instead relying on battlefield tactics and strategy to avoid getting their ride killed. Bunderfrags, for example, become stressed by the use of barding and therefore have to be specially trained to wear it, making it a luxury only high ranking officials can afford.
Aurenite armor is said to be basically invincible. It's only weakness is near impossible to actually exploit: When faced with repeated, constant plasma shots, it can slowly heat up and hurt the wearer. However, due to the single-shot nature of solar-arms, this is impossible to exploit without a hundred men. However, in melee, if one manages to hold a plasma-powered weapon against the armor for long enough, this effect can also take place, even though it takes a long time for it to actually do so, and fighters are taught how to avoid becoming trapped by this. The best chance one has against an opponent wearing aurenite armor is to simply attack anywhere that does not have armor. Blunt weapons are said to be reasonably effective to knock out the user through the use of kinetic force.
Aurenite armor can be manufactured, but it's most often made by regional artisans as it often has to be custom-made. Federation pikemen often wear the mass-manufactured Y54 Aurenite Cuirass as a simple and cheap way of protection, being made mostly of a secondary, weaker material (Sidonite) with an Aurenite alloy. This type of armor is cheaper, but offers considerably less protection: While a set of full Aurenite offers almost invulnerability, Sidonite armor with Aurenite alloys can withstand only a couple blows before being punctured.
The most famous users of Aurenite armor are the Knights of Gold of Aliria, which make armor that is even more resistant through means they keep secret. They are an elite order of fighters who serve the monarch of Aliria.
Above is a cuirassier of the Northern Star Federation wearing a 3/4 suit of Aurenite armor, which protects mostly his front. This type of armored suit is made to be worn by cavalrymen.

A Northern Star Federation cuirassier rides his Bunderfrag steed into battle.
The Bunderfrag is one of the most widely used mounts in the Federation's territory, being found in most planets due to its use as a beast of burden in the times of the Isidorians. This species has a great adaptability factor, being able to resist both heavy cold and heat with its insulatory fur, while also being able to carry a significant amount of weight for a long time. Its double-split hooves also are very effective for handling rough and uneven terrains, and its intelligence is quite above average amongst other beasts. They are very caring and loving animals.
The cuirassier sports a set of heavy aurenite armor set to protect him from solar shots and melee weapons. In the battlefield, his role varies from flanking enemy artillery, facing down enemy cavalry, disrupting unit formations, scouting, and routing opposing foes. The armor of the cuirassier is made from a highly resistant, golden material called Aurenite. This material is the same used for many other types of armor across the galaxy, as it is highly deflective of solar plasma and physically resilient. They say the only way to put down someone wearing Aurenite armor is to strike where there is no armor, since it is extremely resilient. Although a full set of armor is reasonably heavy, people who use them frequently have to adapt their physique to be able to comfortably wear it without being weighed down. The armor is also adorned with protection runes inside and out, providing an extra shielding layer of arcane origin, which protects against most spells.

Cozmata may be silly but she ain't stupid. When you sail the Aether, you've gotta be cautious for pirates, slavers, and any other outlaws. For this reason, many spacers and travelers always carry some kind of weapon. Cozmata owns a '77 Piece-made Solar Wheellock Arquebus, along with two N53 "Lucianna" Solar Flintlock Pistols. The arquebus was inherited from her mother Nimbus, while the pistols were bought separately at a surplus shop in the planet of Dalasan.

The N53 "Lucianna" Solar Flintlock Pistol is one of the most widely available small arms within Federation space. Being in use from '13 to '21, this iconic pistol has made its mark on the army men of the Federation due to its portable size and reliability. Its name was given to refer to the First Citizen at the time, Lucianna Alberdine, who put the weapon into service. Although it has been largely replaced within the army by more modern and lighter models such as the F23 "Cigarbox" and the Z43 "Lizzie-Halbrand" hand cannon, it remains a favorite amongst many officials and soldiers to this day, as well as the weapon of choice for many mercenaries and security contractors.

The A29 Solar Arquebus is one of the standard types of solar weapon most widely distributed in Federal space. Seeing a long-lasting 47 years in service, it is slowly being phased out by the lighter O95 in some regiments, particularly in the navy.
The cylinder with two glowing bottoms is called a one-shot plasma cell, which contains a solar crystal within. Solar crystals are like naturally occuring batteries, which can store the very power of the stars. They are also prone to exploding when met with physical trauma or intense heat. The cell is fixed onto an apparatus called beam focuser, which will gather the energy inside the cell and focus it in a single beam which shoots out at high velocities. The flintlock mechanism makes use of flint stones, which produce sparks that are taken to the solar crystal within the cell, and ignite it.
Once the shot of hyper heated plasma is fired, the arquebus' barrel must be cleaned of debris and ash using the cleaning rod underneath it. The cell must be replaced with a new one, and the lock must be pulled back in full.

Aurian is one of the gods in Atlantian religion, being one of the sons of Atlas that compose his pantheon. He is Atlas' secondborn, his firstborn being the Goddess of Chaos Tertran. The Atlantian religion is the most widespread in the galaxy. It talks about how an all powerful, omnipotent being named Atlas created the universe and all that exists within it, afterwards creating the gods, widely regarded as his sons and daughters, to be the guardians and managers of each aspect of the universe and its beings. Afterwards, some believe he left to create another universe, on and on until oblivion. Followers of Atlantian religion tipically choose one god as their patreon for them to worship alongside Atlas, so they can bless them. This results in rivalries and fights between worshippers of different gods in Atlas' pantheon, even though the religion itself says all gods are equally important and powerful and there should be no competition.Ancient holy scriptures tell about how all gods are equally important and balance each other out, as if left to their own devices, each god would cause a different kind of disaster by overexerting their dominions. Aurian is included in this, as although he is wise, orderly, strong, resolute and dependable, he also has many flaws that must be regulated, such as his overreach over all things, his need for everything to follow a strict code and legislation, and his reluctance to change. A universe ruled entirely by Aurian would be a dystopian, flawless mechanism that grinds under it all that try to escape.Aurian is described as a large being who looks like a giant wall. He wears robes and bears marks on his body that shine with light. He wears two golden bracelets that are said to be perfectly round, with an 8 pointed square star holding his robe together. Different beings interpret him as looking different, so depending on the species, his depictions are made to fit the culture they are in. He carries a large, golden book that is said to have been written by him, containing the basic rules of the universe that must be followed under all circumstances by the all gods.Every god in the Atlantian religion rules three servants (also seen as their children) and a post-life reign. The servants typically help the god to maintain their dominion or their post-life reign. The post-life of each god is different, and catered to each of their followers' preferences. Aurian's children are:Logos, Keeper of Order. He is a demigod to which the faithful pray when they wish for a law or regulation to be correctly followed. He guides the minds, thoughts and rationale of those prayed for so that they follow the law and maintain order in whatever decision they come to. He is also responsible for guiding the hearts of the passionate to not break order, to remain within the boundaries of law and avoid chaos. He understands how the heart can play tricks and dominate one's mind, and so guides those who love and those who hate, so their emotions do not allow for disorder to rise.
Solus, Suzerain of The Stars. He is a demigod who is in charge of defending the stars. Whenever any threats come to the holiest creations of Atlas, Solus enacts rightful vengeance upon their aggressors, and defends the celestial bodies from all evil. He is the one who must be prayed to so that the sun may rise in the morning unscathed.
Pathos, Daughter of Light
. She is the eldest demigod servant of Aurian, and loved most by all. She is the one who controls the light, guiding it from the stars to the moons and planets of the universe, so that they may heat and provide warmth to them. Guiding light from a lamp, so it comes down at the surfaces around it. Without her guidance, light would never reach anything.Aurian's post-life reign is a symmetrical, operational and perfect society. It runs like a mechanism, absolutely orderly, with a fit routine that never changes, and with fit patterns that remain the same throughout all eternity. The perfect rule of order.Aurian's followers seek to always follow fiercely the laws imposed by them on the land, and rabidly oppose any dissent or change. Aurian dictates that laws should only be changed when it is a matter of life or death, and that the law should never be broken: Not even when one is starving. Due to this, Aurian followers tipically are traditionalist, opposing any and all progressive legislature or simple regulatory changes.Paladins of Aurian tipically work to maintain order in a domain, such as a town, city or kingdom. "Order above all", is their motto.

John Armstrong Jr. was the first head of state of the Northern Star Federation. Born in Tarria Prime in M4 342 AFI (After the Fall of the Isidorians), in a system of the northern sectors, Armstrong grew up in a family of farmers and merchants. His father's trade was in produce and cattle. As he grew up, he started getting acquainted with his uncle, who was a very experienced scholar. He learned much from him over the years, ranging from civics to debating to law and finally, his greatest interest: military arts. Once he reached adulthood at 19, he left the Tarrian countryside and aimed for the capital in search of studies and opportunities. Obtaining a spot in one of the most prestigious officer academies in the capital, Armstrong excelled at his craft. Admired by some as an example of leadership. Later on, he would meet his wife Amelia Ginger, whom with he married years later in a church of Atlas. He was commissioned as a lieutenant during the first skirmishes of what would later become the Insectomorph Wars of Tarria III. Some years later, he would work as an aide to General Albert Clausule. From the end of the Insectomorph Wars in M4 354 to the outbreak of the Ax-Hand War in M4 366, Armstrong would be a member in the House of Representatives of Alsterna in Tarria Prime. During this period, he would become increasingly frustrated with the pirate incursions that raided and pillaged the countryside of the Tarrian system, and like many of the people in the Northern Systems, wished for a better way to defend against external threats. For many years, statesmen all across the systems debated the creation of a union of sorts of the Northern Systems, to create a more synchronized, more well legislated and more efficient way to defend themselves and organize treaties. The end of the Vulkanian Civil War in M4 311 boosted these proposals even more, as a union of this kind would better prevent issues from falling into civil conflicts. The raids of the pirate bands reached a critical point when the most influential captain of the bands in the Northern Systems, Captain Hector Ax-Hand, launched a full on assault on one of the richest towns in the Tarrian system, sacking and pillaging it, committing a bloody massacre. As a result of this, the Tarrian Prime Secretary sanctioned a campaign to officially invest all of the army powers on curbing the pirate threat and increase the navy's budget, and declared Hector Ax-Hand and his band as public enemies number one. Having become a talented and prestigious officer within the Tarrian navy, Armstrong was commissioned as the general of the campaign against the pirates, which would later be known as the Ax-Hand War, Pirate War, or Armstrong's War. Through mistakes and victories, Armstrong managed to successfully defend the Northern Systems again and again, (The systems had signed a pact in the Conference of Hislon to defend each other during the campaign against the pirates) foiling the plans of Ax-Hand multiple times. As Hector's armada grew stronger and his strategies bolder, Armstrong also went on to utilize more and more creative and efficient ways to wage war against the pillagers of the systems. These successes made Armstrong a national hero even before the war was over. It all came to a close at the Battle of Tapanua Moon, as Asirian officials managed to obtain precise information on the location of Hector's ship, the Manticore. Armstrong would send a full assault on what he knew was a trap, only to receive reinforcements later that would flank the pirates. In a desperate move, Hector's Manticore boarded Armstrong's ship, the Statesman. The two would fight hand to hand, and Armstrong managed to trick Ax-Hand and imprison him in the Statesman. Without its leader, the pirate ranks fell into disarray, and the battle was eventually won. The capture of Ax-Hand would lead to his imprisonment and eventual execution for inumerous crimes. For his valor as a commander and his military prowess, Armstrong would be given some of the greatest honors in the Northern Systems. With the end of the Ax-Hand War, also came the end of the current Prime Secretary of Tarria's term in congress. Elections were being held, and feeling that no one would vow strongly enough for the creation of a union of the systems nor for structural reforms in the Tarrian legislature that he deemed necessary, Armstrong elected himself candidate to the post. Needless to say, being a national hero, he won in a landslide. His previous experiences with law and his reputation as a strong and reliable leader made him an attractive option for most Tarrian citizens. When in office, he defended, sanctioned and organized the creation of a loose confederation of systems, in which the Northern Systems would rely on each other for defense and economy, working in a synchronous manner for the betterment of their peoples. It was originally organized as a military and economic alliance that, among other things, created a unified financial system, constitution and army, promoted stability, liberty and prosperity. A post for the leader of the army, head of state and mediator was created, named First Citizen, which would be voted in by the congress. Armstrong participated out of pressure from his contemporaries, renouncing as Prime Secretary, and won in a landslide. With all the systems doing relatively well economically, Armstrong's confederation project, named the Northern Star Federation, was a great success as his policies regarding the better coordination of the systems worked efficiently and mostly as promised. Serving for one term only, Armstrong would step down as the First Citizen, being tired of politics and believing the government should not revolve around him. He would live the rest of his days in his home town of Alsterna, working and raising his children along with his wife. His influence would still play an important role in future elections, but later in his life he sought to abstain himself completely from the nation's affairs to enjoy the last years of his life and work on other passions such as woodwork, writing and fishing. He wrote many law and strategy books, along with his own biography around 6 years before his death. Armstrong passed away in M4 459 in his sleep as a result of a heart attack. His death was named a national holiday throughout the Federation, and all the systems mourned him for months. His vision for the Federation as a decentralized union of systems would later be bastardized by his successors, which after the government of Albert Nalfraggaz, would become more and more centralized, militarized, expansionist, and repressive. Some say the Federation of current day is a caricature of what it was originally supposed to be.

The Knightly Order of Gold has been defending Aliria for centuries. Ever since the days before solar rifling technology, their armor was the toughest and most impenetrable in the galaxy. Their training is second to none. They are the most well trained, well equipped, and fearsome melee fighters in all of the galaxy. Although other countries also have knightly orders or hire mercenaries who also wear blast protective armor, it is said nothing can penetrate the armor of a Knight of Gold. While most armors in the galaxy are made of Aurenium, a blast-deflective metal, the armor the knights wear is said to be made of an alloy of many other different metals, created via a combination of very specific types and quantities. The armor they wear and the weapons they wield are a mystery to all other factions in the galaxy. How they are made and with what has been a long kept secret, known only to the highest member of the order, the Order Captain. Along with the protective runes cast through a mysterious method unlike common runes, the armor each knight wears is made by them, so every armor, and every knight, looks different. What they use to identify one another is the Alirian shield coat of arms they all have on their chest. Their specialty in combat and their unique skills require that they are deployed in the most challenging campaigns, to shift the tide of the battlefield.
In battle, they can be decisive. Their armor allows them to rush enemy formations without penalties, and wreck havoc on enemy lines. That is why other factions and countries utilize melee fighters to keep them at bay and protect the regular infantry. Their prowess, however, is second to none. Knights of Gold always fight in trios. They will be paired with two others, and will create a lasting bond with their comrades, almost like a brotherhood. Although not officially being part of the government, the Knights of Gold can influence even the highest ranking nobility if they truly wish to. However, they mostly stay out of political affairs, save for rare exceptions. Their method of recruiting can be both hereditary (one can be born into the order), or it can be through patronship, where a knight sees the potential in someone, and recommends them to join the order. This is only reserved for the greatest, most honorable warriors of Aliria. Their armor and weaponry is extremely expensive to make, and only those trained for years can achieve a level of proficiency with it. However, it truly compensates. Three Knights of Gold are able to turn the tide of a battle in favor of the Alirians. Their rite of initiation is brutal, with merciless trials by fire that would make the most specialized marines of the Federation shiver. They are taught for years how to best utilize their weapons, their training, and their comrades, and at the end, they are awarded with a shield crest and the opportunity to build their own armor. Once their armor is done, they are no longer a squire, but a fully fledged knight. To have the golden armor vested upon them is the greatest honor one can achieve in their lives.
It is said they also drink from a special fountain that has enchanted water, and they become faster and stronger, almost possessing a sixth sense. Those are but rumors spread by the Alirian peasantry and Federation sailors... Probably.

In a galaxy where melee fighters can be a decisive factor in battle, the Lansknets are the most prolific mercenaries around. Countries, organizations, and companies who cannot afford to have knightly orders often find themselves hiring these individuals to be melee specialists. In the battlefield, it is not uncommon to see legions of Lansknets charging at disorganized infantry formations, protected from enemy fire by their armors carved with protective runes. Being mostly from an aristocratic background, these sellswords set a fashion statement with their brightly colored, feathered clothes which made their effectiveness in battle that more terrifying. This high standard background also allows them to have armors, as not only is blast-deflective armor in the galaxy expensive to make, but it also speaks of more money when they have protective runes, as those are only cast by experienced mage-artisans for a high price. This is not to say that all Lansknets are from a high-income background, as many of them are also dispossessed craftsmen and peasants, burghers, aristocrats, artisans, nobles and runaway serfs as well. Some fight because of financial need, and some for adventure and plunder, some (from Alirian or Aetherstat worlds) because their lords levied soldiers. They fought in several important campaigns along the ages, such as the Aether War, the Aetherstat-Alirian Wars, the Federo-Aetherstat Wars, the Federo-Golgonard Wars, the Federal Civil War, and innumerable suppressions of local rebellions all around the galaxy. They were and still are vital for the balance of the battlefield, even with the recent advancements in solar-rifling technology. They are tipically known for the use of greatswords, halberds, pikes, spears, shortswords, and other melee weaponry. Most of them have solar pistols as ranged sidearms, and some of them even carry solar rifles in light of the previously said technological advancements. Being hired mostly by the Federation, which does not possess a knightly order, these fierce, bold warriors are willing to fight anyone for anybody... Providing they get paid.

Magic is the control of the fundamental forces of the universe through the mysterious energy of the stars.
Magic originates from the stars and solar energy. This energy can come in the form of solar wind, light, or crystals. Without those, casting magic is impossible without bringing severe harm to the caster, as the energy that is being used is coming exclusively from them. This is because stars were the first things to be created in the universe by Atlas, the god who created the universe, and are therefore imbibed with magical, arcane energies for being essentially parts of him. All things come from stars, and their divine nature provides magical properties.
Individuals can only practice magic, the utilization of the powers of stars, if they possess a gift. It is unclear how it is determined, but only a select number of people are able to tap into the divine energies of the stars, tipically one in a million. Those who practice magic are known as “mages”, “wizards”, “witches” and “starbenders”.
Wizards’ magic is able to be cast according to the amount of energy immediately available to them. This is why many wizards carry solar crystals in collars, rings, and staffs. Solar crystals are “leftovers” of Atlas’ creation of the stars. They are the only material in the universe that can store pure star energy, and can be harnessed for magic or power. They are one of the most abundant minerals in the galaxy. Solar crystals can only be broken or cut through the use of solar energy, like lasers and plasma. If broken violently, they can explode.
Magic is practiced through the use of “words of power”. Supposedly the words said by Atlas when building the universe, uttered in an ancient tongue that was spoken before time began. These words can bend reality and spring from nothing that previously didn’t exist, teleport matter and control forces of nature. There is, however, a limit to the powers of a wizard or mage. Simple things like conjuring or controlling elements of nature (fire, water, etc), controlling gravity, altering physical matter and teleporting are common practices, but the more powerful of a level they are, the more energy they consume from both the crystal and the user. Only with years of training, honing of skills and physical conditioning one can practice these spells at a more powerful capacity (like levitating large objects, teleporting vast distances, conjuring stronger powers, etc). Even then, reality-breaking spells are known to be impossible such as reviving the dead, time stopping, time bending and such. It is, however, told in tales that some mythical, legendary individuals could practice these magics… But how?
Beneath mountains of dust and bone, lies ancient knowledge of a way to possess these great powers and become more powerful than any regular mage… One can seek out the incomprehensible influence of Erocles, a forgotten god of an ancient time. It is said that if one swears allegiance to him, they’ll be granted great, unspeakable power. Unfortunately, that power comes with a price. It is said that the ancient universe from whence he came is long gone, destroyed entirely and replaced by our own when its gods rebelled against Atlas. Having somehow survived this purge and migrated to Atlas’ new creation, the magic he offers is incompatible with the universe we reside in. If one overindulges in his influence, their mind and body will get corrupted into an unspeakable mass of horror and madness.
There are many colleges and organizations of magic throughout the galaxy. Some independent, some sponsored by governments. The largest magical organization in the galaxy is the Solar Order. They are an independent college of scholars and masters in magic who train others and pursue knowledge of arcane arts, science and history as a brotherhood. The colleges that are sponsored by governments, notably the Federal College of Magical Education, the Dragonkin Orthodoxy, the King’s School of Arcane and the Dukes’ Wizards Guild are all in service of their respective governments, and therefore will work not only for their own interests, but also for the interest of the establishment sponsoring them.
Wizards in the battlefield are sometimes found giving support to infantry. Although their roles vary, they can be seen wielding long range weapons and wearing runed armor. These wizards deployed directly in the frontline are tipically the most experienced and powerful mages available, and wear government-issued battle armor to give them further protection. Wizards also play active roles in other areas of society, such as healing wounds, crafting magic potions, casting protective runes on armor, casting illusions for enemies, mending broken objects and equipment, and many more. Due to their rareness and the experience that is needed to practice magic, however, their services can be more expensive than local manual workers, keeping competition high among community members, if they happen to have a mage. This rareness also resulted in various technology being developed to replace some of their uses, and some mages fear for the day they will become completely irrelevant.
Not all wizards are religious. While some attribute their powers to the divine influence of Atlas, some believe that it is merely an aspect of the universe, with no religious meaning behind it. It is a fervorous subject, which has been debated for hundreds of years between different scholars.
Practicing wizards do not generally have a standard uniform. Save for students and high council members of different colleges, uniforms are not adopted by most magic practitioners. The way they are identified is through their medallion. Magic practitioners will wear medallions on strapped harnesses, belt knuckles, or otherwise to identify their allegiance, wearing whatever else they want as clothing.
