I was hoping to work on my research paper this weekend but everything has gone wrong so that just hasn’t happened.
I’ve got a cold (yay for working in education 🙄) so I’m wrapped up in a duvet on the sofa because I’m so drained and I have the most annoying cough. Did I mention I have to rest because I can’t afford to take time off work...
I have accomplished cleaning out all the rabbit exclosures (x5), doing all the laundry, taking the car to the garage to have the exhaust replaced and taking my mother’s sick note into her work.
Talking of my mother, she’s now been in hospital for over a month and it’s looking like it’ll be another 2-3 weeks before she’s home.
Did I mention I’m stressed?

There’s this pressure that people, particularly those in the studyblr community should have perfect handwriting.
I will be the first to admit that I don’t have perfect handwriting.
It’s inconsistent due to my awkward pen grip (yay dyspraxia) and it varies dramatically depending on the pen I’m using  or how much pressure I’m under for time. When using a plain biro, my writing is basically illegible 🤦🏻‍♀️ Oh and it varies between cursive and just plain scribble.
My biggest advice to you is to find a pen that works for you. I avoid biros and try to stick to either Stablio or Staedtler fineliners. I prefer Staedtler because I personally find the triangle grip the easiest to hold.
Pens (top to bottom); Stablio fineline, Muji and Staedtler.

It you ever want other science related stuff for other aspects of racing, just shout. I have so, so much written down etc that I’m always happy to share 😊
@ofrosessusansandcarnations Hi I used to be @thescienceofracing but I’m currently locked out of that account! I got your mention though.
There are multiple papers on 2 year olds and the benefit of racing early as it allows them to dynamically adapt to the sport with regards to reducing injury risks.
Here are some of them :)
Here’s the presentation from the Equine Injury Database https://courses.grayson-jockeyclub.org/…/WSS…/story.html) and slides (https://www.grayson-jockeyclub.org/Welfar…/pdfs/parkin.pdf)
The most recent presentation on the Equine Injury Database (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJZMwYumlTs&index=5&list=PLOvZ5rTOZ-I15ga7vvPzFXuW5fQ9lVV78)
Training 2 years old (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/…/j.2042-3306.2011.00534.x)
Career length (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.2042-3306.2012.00651.x)
Positive effects of early training (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.2746/042516408X266088)
How small amounts of high speed training can be beneficial in reducing DMD risks in young TBs (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.2746/042516405774480085)
Some other interesting research: How biomarkers can be used to identify “at risk” horses (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.2042-3306.2010.00123.x)
Let me know of you want more or something about a specific aspect 😊

someone give me a kick in the ass.
I’ve found the perfect PhD programme. It’s local (within reason!) and they have people who specialise in my area.
Now all I have to do is start the emailing process to potential advisors. Which is terrifying and I have no idea why.
This is all I’ve ever wanted but the prospect of starting that it is scary.
