what is so special about mulder and scully? why does everyone call them the only otp?

I don’t even know where to start with this. I could write a dissertation on “what’s so special about MSR.” 

On the superficial side of things, have you seen Mulder and Scully? They are two outrageously attractive people. The thought of them naked together is enough to make them special. And sexy, so incredibly sexy.

On the opposite side of the scale, you have the theological argument of them being soul mates. This has been beaten to death, so I won’t go into it. But they are, anon. They are.

I’m going to tell you why I think they are special to so many people. Bear with me.

We are all alone in this universe. No one else thinks our thoughts, feels our feelings, or sees the world in the same way that we do. Let that marinate for a moment. Your view of life and what it means is subjective. No one else shares it. 

That is isolating.

Humans, by nature, are collectivist creatures. Aristotle said it best, “Man is by nature a social animal.” As people, we need to connect with others. We need a shared experience with which to base ourselves, some reassurance that our existence is noticed by another human being.

The problem is, getting someone else to see you, to know you, is exhausting. Hours of small talk and expositions about your life to someone who has bags of their own to carry. A view of the world they’ve shaped over many years gets in the way of really experiencing you. But we all try, oh do we try. 

Sometimes, after all this work, we fall in love. Or we gain a best friend. A person who appreciates our individual life experience, our subjective view of the world. They get a piece of ourselves, after all that work.

But they still don’t truly get it. They never can.

Mulder and Scully didn’t have to engage in hours of small talk or exposition. Mulder and Scully communicated without words from the moment they met. They understood each other intrinsically in an instant. They each have a subjective viewpoint of the world, sure, but they respect the hell out of each other’s looking glass. They are able to access both views, their own and each other’s. Mulder is able to tell you exactly how Scully sees the world, with deadly accuracy, and Scully can do the same for Mulder. These two simultaneously experience life as themselves and as the other. They are one.

And isn’t that the ideal? Don’t we all wish we could exist with another human being without words? Knowing they understand us to the very core, never needing to explain the meaning behind our actions? Because they know. They know.

That’s the dream, anon. Mulder and Scully are the truest form of paired human existence. The ideal we all strive for and sometimes don’t even know we desperately want.

Mulder and Scully are the answer to all of the questions we are afraid to ask.

I would never condone someone to do this discreetly and in mere seconds with a quickly concealed permanent marker, for example on a public bench or bus stop. Certainly not anything like whipping out a tat machine and adding to an unconscious white supremacist's existing tattoo. That would be illegal! :) And, dear followers, I would never encourage you to do something that's illegal. So, please only use this when someone has defaced your personal property to avoid breaking the law! On an exceptionally hard day, during an exceptionally hard month, I received an anonymous manilla envelope in the mail. Inside, I found these.

My therapist knew that:

A. I love The X-Files (a normal amount)

B. I love coloring

C. That the Calm Strips she sent me last time were wearing out

So I've been collecting bookmarks for a bit over a year, and I thought I'd share some of my favorite fics! Here are 10 The X-Files ones I really liked. There's some good depth/emotion, and most contain a good helping of angst!

"Will I Lose my Dignity" by tinglingworld (There's no miracle cure for her cancer just plain old medicine. She's going to get worse before maybe getting better and that comes with a very unique set of emotions.)

"Rebehold the Stars" by nightoncydonia (Thence we came forth to rebehold the stars” he murmured, more to himself than her, his voice low and tender, his gaze never leaving Scully's, his smile unfaltering. Or how Scully tells Mulder her cancer is in remission.)

"Atonement" by Lapsed_Scholar (The men were greatly terrified, and they asked him, “What have you done?” And when the men learned that he was fleeing from the services of the LORD—for so he told them—they said to him, “What must we do to you to make the sea calm around us?” For the sea was growing more and more stormy. "The Whole Story" by SisterSpooky1013 (If they thought Maggie couldn’t tell when two people are holding hands under the dinner table, they've got another thing coming.)

"TRICKS OF THE LIGHT" by Elizabeth Rowandale (What the author would have liked to see happen immediately following "Elegy".)

because I haven’t seen a whole heap of decent information about this… I thought I’d do a beginner’s guide to dissociation

disorders that can cause dissociation include:

DID/OSDD

PTSD

depression

OCD

BPD

DPDR

anxiety

eating disorders

some people also experience dissociation due to chronic pain

being dissociated can feel like, but is not limited to:

feeling disconnected from the world

feeling “blurry”, “buzzy”, “foggy”, or “out of it”

not feeling any emotions

not feeling any physical pain

not remembering whole periods of time

feeling like you’re floating outside of your body

your brain constantly going in and out of focus

dissociation is generally broken down into two categories:

derealisation: the feeling that the world around you is unreal, foggy, or just out of reach

depersonalisation: the feeling of being outside of yourself, or of not feeling real

I hope this is a helpful post, and that I’ve made people more aware of what dissociation actually is. if you have any follow-up questions, please feel free to ask!
