Happiness Is Not Hard To Find
Tumblr media
Happiness can be found anywhere. From the warm sunlight, gazing through the window in the morning, to the beautiful starry midnight sky. But why do some people seek joy through bizarre and unconventional ways? Well, I can answer that question for you.
In these times, being happy and staying happy can be a challenge. especially when one's state of mind isn't stable enough to accept and deal with the current situation.
I personally think, that in order to be happy and stay happy, I lower my expectations on different things, including people. In order for me to avoid disappointment, I might as well not expect much in the first place. The first thing that comes into mind, when I seek to have a positive outlook on the current situation (pandemic), is to look for a distraction. And not dwell much on the negativities brought about by the virus. As well as doubling down on physical self-care, especially exercise. as someone who's stuck at home and avoiding social gatherings and basically any close physical contact with someone from outside the household, exercise has helped me get through the day, productively. But the most influential thing that serves as my source of comfort and entertainment these days, is still my phone. Being in contact with people who are away from me, interacting with them, having conversations, and keeping in touch has made me realize how much of a privilege it is to live in this generation, with these technologies to help us in our daily and social needs.
Busying myself with my phone, getting distracted by things found on the internet, at the same time learning a lot of things, has also helped me realize that the situation is not so bad after all. As long as I do my part, as a person, and as a citizen of the country, to be responsible enough and practice social distancing, the predicament that the country, and the world is currently into, would become slightly more bearable and less unpleasant.

"Adapting to the Current Situation"
Tumblr media
People are constantly facing various sorts of difficulties in these times due to the pandemic. Whether you are a student, a teacher, a government employee, a random street vendor, a jeepney driver, and even if you are a homeless person, everyone, literally everyone, is affected.
The covid outbreak has resulted in many countries being closed off, experiencing economic crises and breakdowns, leading to people having to adopt to the changes, and finding new jobs. Some, if not most students, and teachers for example, in the educational field are experiencing discomfort with regards to learning and teaching during these times. Affecting the future of various individuals, and leading to multiple emotional breakdowns and thoughts of "giving up" due to not being able to adopt to the quick changes that the pandemic has brought (not exclusively) to education.
Another good example of how life changing the situation actually is, would be about Naeem Nassir.
It has been months since Naeem Nassir was terminated from Oman Air in July, and the 30-year-old pilot still longs for the adrenaline rush and glamour of his previous work.
His job of two years was quite different from the traditional deskbound nine-to-five. The senior first officer counted frequent international travel, an above average income and an office above the clouds as some of its perks. For now, taking to the skies is out of reach for Naeem and hundreds of his pilot and flight attendant colleagues in Malaysia who have been grounded or sacked as COVID-19 pandemic has decimated the air travel industry.
Over the last few months, two major airlines in Malaysia, Malindo Air and AirAsia, have confirmed that there have been layoffs while national carrier Malaysia Airlines has implemented cost-cutting measures such as unpaid leave and pay cuts.
Some of those impacted have turned to entrepreneurship to earn a living, kick-starting businesses in the hope that they yield returns.
Naeem, for instance, has swapped out his aviator hat and smart uniform for dirty aprons and grimy gloves at his new venture, Smashed Burger.
The outlet, located in Bukit Jelutong, Selangor, sells Australian beef patty burgers with toppings such as caramelised onions and beef bacon. While flipping burgers may sound less complicated than flying a commercial aircraft, Naeem acknowledged that the transition has been “very drastic”.
Imagine being a professional pilot with above average pay, to being a self-employed burger vendor? Naeem is just one example of the more fortunate people who had to change careers, but what about the others who weren't so lucky? In the Philippines alone, an estimated 7.3 million people have temporarily or permanently lost their jobs. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) estimates that around 10 million workers may lose their jobs this year.
This pandemic is no joke, it has affected the entire world, leading to people having to change their lifestyle, regardless of religion, culture and/or ethnicity. It really is true that nothing is constant, except change. Change is the only thing that is constant, and in order to move on with our lives during these changes, we have to adopt.
Coping up with the current situation may have proven to be difficult, but we have no choice but to go against the currents and adapt to the environment we are currently in. Just like Naeem, instead of giving up after losing his job, he instead went to venture out into uncharted territories and developed his own business in the food industry which is in heavy contrast as compared to his previous job. We, can also be like him, in the sense that, we have to look for ways to deal with the situation, and not just stand around and wait for the government to find a solution. Even as individuals, we can help limit the effects of the pandemic, DO YOUR PART, WEAR A MASK!

Seeking For Academic Freezing?
Knowledge is power. It keeps us from getting too far, and from staying still. Insufficiency of knowledge, would eventually give a negative feedback. Facts, data, memories and experiences impel us into our dreamed careers. New knowledge means new strategies, new solutions and new beginnings. But all is well, until we came up against an invisible enemy. A microorganism that didn’t just destroyed the lives of many, but also blighted our society. This COVID19 pandemic pushed us to take drastic measures, from social distancing to lockdowns. It deferred many things, like working, socializing, and living “normally”. Living with these changes can be frustrating. And this is what the students of our country are trying to give attention.
We still need to go to school amidst this pandemic. The Department of Education had announced that there will be multiple ways for us to attend classes. For those who are equipped with electronics and internet connection, they can take part with the online classes. And those who go without gadgets and are not part of the internet’s coverage can tune in specified educational channels on television and radio, while working with their modules. The academic freeze issue aroused from the complains and statements of those who are undesired to join in this new mediums of learning and are discouraged due to perplexing processes. Majority of the total population of the Philippines live in rural areas and in provinces which frequently experience power interruptions and are unreachable with any loads of transportation. Some would travel to nearby towns to attain the convenience of internet connectivity and computers. But even people living in cities, they still encounter the same problems and endure its annoyance. Modular learning may be a substitute for online classes, but people still question its effectiveness.
We live to learn and learn to live. It is our obligation to go to school. Everyone needs to absorb everything about their interests first, before they would engage into it. Like a baby trying to figure out how to speak and to walk. So in this case, I would like to state that I oppose to the proposition of having an academic freeze. This is an inefficient way of spending our months at home. Online classes can be flexible to cater the student’s appeals. That is why ‘Blended Learning’ is made. Students can still study even if they’re temporarily disconnected, by using modules or worksheets that can be downloaded for offline usage. Modules are given for free, especially for those who are suffering from financial difficulties because of the loss of jobs and are personally delivered to those who live far from their schools. This may be a different scenario for those who are studying in private schools but in general, students are qualified to learn both online and offline. It is a burden for everyone because this is not what we are used to. We are like test subjects in a vivarium that is still being experimented. We should not immediately conclude that this change is not for us, because in reality, we are just “waiting for the storm to calm down”. The teachers are still paid, even though they work divergently, especially at these times. But for us students, we won’t obtain anything if we would just fritter away the days where we could be productive. Learning is a continuous process. If education would stop now, it will be more complicated soon.

Nature; The Cure
(How Nature Helps Your Mental Health) (Environmental And Mental Health Awareness)
Environmental issues are just as concerning as depression and other mental health issues. We are informed in the news that forests are burned, rivers polluted, and wildlife endangered. We are also aware that there are people who are suffering from mental problems and are having difficulty dealing with their personal troubles. The people of the world today are taking the planet’s natural resources for granted, without placing much significance on the repercussions that it brings along with their actions.
Plastic pollution is one of the most controversial environmental concerns as of late. Its effects are widespread and calamitous. Heavy floods, ground pollution and the cause of death of thousands of marine species are all because of people’s lack of responsibility towards proper waste management. It is heart-breaking to see educated people throwing trash in parks, commercial establishments and in public places. People are oblivious to the outcomes of this problem and dejectedly there are only few who are committed to serve and to protect the nature’s wonders.
There’s no denying the fact that the more we destroy nature, the more aggressive and despondent people are getting. That is why restoring nature’s beauty is essential for a cleaner and a healthier community. It is proven by researchers that colour green is a relaxing, restful and a quiet colour. In a bustling city, full of fumes, dirty sceneries, noise and traffic, there is no way people could de-stress their selves.
People would always find time to engage in any recreational activities like tree planting, in parks, beaches, forest camps or staying in resort hotels. Some would also prefer to stay at home and do gardening, planting flowers and vegetables. Plants and trees will help you breath better. Inhaling the freshly produced air will definitely make you think more proficiently. Surround your house with indoor and outdoor plants for it will make a soothing environment that is perfect for relaxing. If you’re not satisfied, withdraw yourself to a natural and invigorating location. Go to a place where you’ll find peace like having a picnic near a lake, in a beach or waterfall, and hiking through the woods or mountains. Revive yourself using nature’s beauty. If you can’t afford to renovate and redecorate your home and to travel, you can always go and visit any city parks. Sit and ponder on the wooden bench, feel the breeze and stare at the vibrant colour of the sky and the leaves. Administer a clean-up and planting activity. This would not just help the environment, but also to aid people’s personal difficulties like loneliness and depression.
Nature, at its simplest form, is the remedy for many mental complications and this is what everyone should focus, for the future generations.

Just search (@ejaymstaelena). That's my photography account. I don't have a personal Instagram account coz... I'm not really interested in making one.
