WADA confirms it cleared Chinese swimmers to compete at Tokyo Games citing contaminated samples

The world’s top anti-doping regulator says 23 Chinese swimmers were cleared to compete at the Tokyo Olympics despite testing positive for a banned heart medication because it agreed with Chinese authorities and ruled that their samples had been contaminated.

The World Anti-Doping Agency said Saturday that the swimmers tested positive for the heart medication trimetazidine in the months leading up to the start of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but that Chinese authorities told the agency the positives were the result of contamination.

“Ultimately, we concluded that there was no concrete basis to challenge the asserted contamination,” WADA’s senior director of science and medicine Olivier Rabin said in a news release.

The 30-member Chinese swim team won six medals in Tokyo, including three golds. Many of the athletes still compete for China and are expected to swim at the Paris Olympics this summer.

Reports about the doping positives came out Saturday in the Daily Telegraph in Sydney and The New York Times.

WADA responded to what it called “some misleading and potentially defamatory media coverage this week” and explained the process it undertook upon learning about the positive tests.

ＬＩＮＥヤフーに再指導へ　情報流出、再発防止は不十分―松本総務相

　松本剛明総務相は１６日の閣議後記者会見で、通信アプリ「ＬＩＮＥ」の利用者情報を流出させたＬＩＮＥヤフーに対し、再び行政指導を行うと明らかにした。間接出資を受ける韓国ＩＴ大手ネイバーとの関係見直しなどを盛り込んだ報告書は不十分と判断、再発防止策の再検討を求める。

　７月１日までに改めて報告を求める。松本氏は「ＬＩＮＥヤフーには事態を重く捉え、徹底した対応を期待したい」と語った。

　ＬＩＮＥヤフーでは、ネイバーのシステムを経由した不正アクセスで約５２万件の個人情報が流出。総務省は３月、再発防止を求める行政指導を行った。その際、出資を受けながらＩＴインフラの保守・運用も委託するなど、ＬＩＮＥヤフー側の強い依存が背景にあったと指摘した。

元NHKアナ・鈴木健二さん死去　９５歳　老衰　「クイズ面白ゼミナール」などで人気

　「クイズ面白ゼミナール」の司会やベストセラー本「気くばりのすすめ」の著者で知られる元ＮＨＫアナウンサーの鈴木健二（すずき・けんじ）さんが３月２９日、老衰のため福岡市内の病院で死去した。「ＮＨＫ首都圏　ＮＥＷＳ　ＷＥＢ」などが発表した。９５歳だった。関係者によると３０日に通夜、３１日に告別式が近親者で営まれた。

　文字通りテレビ放送とともに歩みを重ねた昭和を代表するアナウンサーだった。東京の下町に生まれた生粋の江戸っ子で、東北大卒業後、テレビ放送開始の前年の１９５２年にＮＨＫに入局。報道ジャンルで活躍していたが、６６年に生活情報番組「こんにちは奥さん」の司会で主婦層の人気も得ると、８１年から「クイズ面白ゼミナール」の司会として活躍。最高４２・２％（８２年９月１２日）を記録するなど高視聴率を誇った。抜群の記憶力で台本やセリフを頭にたたき込む一方、当意即妙の受け答えをちりばめ、人気アナウンサーとしての地位を不動のものにした。

　８２年に執筆した「気くばりのすすめ」は文庫本を含めると４００万部を超える大ベストセラーになるなど、アナウンサーとしての枠を超えて活動。８３年から８５年までＮＨＫ紅白歌合戦の白組司会で出演者よりも派手な衣装で登場するなど、注目を集めた。８４年、引退する都はるみにアンコールをお願いする際の「私に１分間時間をください」という言葉は流行語にもなった。

　その後、理事待遇となったため当時の定年より２年延長して５９歳で定年退職。ＮＨＫ退局後は、講演活動を行う一方、熊本県立劇場館長や盛岡県立図書館長などを歴任した。

　兄の映画監督・鈴木清順さん（２０１７年逝去、享年９３）も卒寿となるなど長生きの家系でもあった。鈴木さんは平成が終わる２０１９年２月に９０歳で「昭和からの遺言」を執筆、反戦への誓いを訴えていた。

Two more abusers at J-pop predator's company

The man in charge of compensating sexual abuse victims of Japan's most famous pop manager says the scandal goes further than first thought.

Noriyuki Higashiyama told the BBC he believes there were two more perpetrators at Johnny Kitagawa's agency Johnny & Associates.

He believes these individuals are still alive.

Since a 2023 BBC investigation, nearly 1,000 men have come forward to say they were abused by Kitagawa.

Higashiyama told the BBC that an internal investigation by the former company in August 2023 had concluded that two people at Johnny & Associates were believed to have sexually abused talent.

He revealed that, to date, he has not contacted the authorities.

"From a legal standpoint, I don't think we have the authority to do that," Higashiyama says. "But if those involved file a criminal complaint, I imagine we would co-operate as much as possible."

He says that he does not know if the survivors of abuse by the two perpetrators want to pursue criminal proceedings.

"I don't even know who they are," he says.
