what if i wrote a bingjiu post-canon redemption for both evil fucks, the originals, luo binghe and shen qingqiu. they get reincarnated back to the moment before luo binghe is pushed into the abyss. shen qingqiu qi deviates from the shock of having limbs again and luo binghe thinks it'll be a nice dream if he takes shen qingqiu into the abyss with him. they both fall.

que a very long angst train where luo binghe battles the desire to kill shen qingqiu vs the desire to keep him alive out of spite. shen qingqiu honestly wants to die and is firmly in denial about what he put an innocent luo binghe through (the first time) even as he witnesses the brat suffering (poison, broken bones, exhaustion, loss of limbs etc). the idiot demon insists on keeping him alive even though it slows him down and puts him at risk. the beast got his revenge, why won't he let him go?

luo binghe wants more than revenge, this time, he wants answers.

ppl who think ruka is oh so noble for selflessly mistreating juri and shiori so that they could finally break through their awkward repressed tension are so baffling to me. i personally don’t think having pure, selfless intentions excuses abject cruelty and the utter misery he put them through. he forced himself onto juri, publicly humiliated shiori… like yeah neither of them are beyond reproach, but at the very best, he’s a presumptuous misogynist who thinks that through his noble, princely interference, he can free juri from her futile suffering and anguish. which is similar to how utena (at her worst) treats anthy, but utena never forces herself onto anthy or humiliates her or mocks her or belittles her (etc etc) in her somewhat misguided quest to free her. ruka knows he has all the instruments of misogynistic violence at his disposal, and uses those tools with impunity to achieve his ends. yes, i have no doubt that he does possess a genuine depth of feeling for juri, and that even as he longs for her, he wishes for nothing more than her happiness. but dear god does he handle it poorly.

I want to put out there that after Nanami saw Anthy and Akio that night, (thank you to the person who pointed out that Nanami, "appeared immediately after in an empty, black rose-esque elevator" to accurately show the Tower effect that it has on the entirety of her character) she vehemently rejected the idea they presented her. Going back to the incredible meta of Nanami and Touga stepping in to take Anthy and Akio's places over time, it was interesting to see that, in a way, their plan of luring her to them backfired. I wonder if it was Anthy's intent to do this, to show Nanami the truth before she was really able to accept it (much like they learned through Wakaba - you can't force some things, because then you can't control the outcome I.E Wakaba had real, untouched hatred in her heart for Anthy AND Utena, and Anthy missed it and nearly got the two of them killed - so she would've been better able to assess at the end of the series, if Nanami would be receptive to this) and FROM THAT, even Touga still thought they could force her into that Rose Bride position; and even though she technically followed their plans and went through with one of the last duels Utena would take part in, she subverted what was expected of her - as Touga draws her sword she tells Utena, essentially, "im going to not only take back who I was, but I will be better than I was before." (Which reminds me YET AGAIN of the same Nanami meta which implies that the car scenes are implied r*pe scenes, which would explain the SERIOUS 180 her countenance does between these two episodes - going from being broken down in the black rose elevator to slapping Anthy and re-asserting herself as head bitch in charge, and even to the way she talks to Utena in the duel - she seems much more forceful, and ROILING beneath the surface. She seems more familiar to me at this point in the series than anyone else, and I think that meta was right with the assault.) And I know that Anthy hated Nanami for being able to 'change her fate as evidenced by the fact that, right before her last duel, Nanami goes to Touga to let him know she's moving and she will never see him again. She's trying to graduate and he won't let her, hes fighting it with all he has and he manages to pull her back in for one last debilitating play.

I still think that Nanami is the first to follow them into the real world.

let's talk about the onion prince.

it's eerily similar - at least to me - to what akio says to anthy in the finale:

"Akio: Are you regretting what you've done? We had to subject your friend to misfortune after all. Yes. It's all my fault. Do you hate me now? Maybe if I tried to be a Prince like in the old days, no one would have had to suffer. I always feel your wounds, your suffering, with my own body. Anthy: You are he who chose this road, knowing the whole of the world. Akio: Knowing the whole of you, I love you."

akio's speech is more silvertongued than tatsuya's breakdown, but the message is the same. akio is talking anthy into handing over the sword of dios as utena lies on the floor between them. he (akio / tatsuya) wants her (anthy / wakaba) to "come back" to him. he loves her, despite what she's done, despite her lost purity.

Ruka really is not meant to be a sympathetic character, imo. He's meant to do the absolute bare minimum (learn to see Juri as a real human being and acknowledge that he can't force her to love him by assaulting her) to demonstrate that being anything less than actively and unapologetically abusive is not conducive to the "prince" role. I also don't want my theory that he "left" because he failed to perpetrate Akio's schema to imply that he "broke free" into the real world like Utena did, because he absolutely did not. Akio probably just killed him or sent him somewhere else. The fact that Ruka showing even a little sympathy for Juri's pain is enough to get him "written off" (now we're getting meta-fictional!) shows how cruel Akio's system (i.e. gender, the nuclear family, the patriarchy, whatever you want to call it) truly is, but it certainly wasn't enough to destroy the system because Ruka didn't change anything. Utena, on the other hand, changes the mindsets of the people around her, not just so that Anthy is able to leave, but so that Juri is able to move on, Miki is able to mature, Touga is able to confront his own selfishness, etc.
