i want to be a vampire so bad. it would open up a whole new world of procrastination. puts off finishing a novel for 100 years. i don’t do the dishes for 20. oh wait i don’t have dishes because i suck blood. another fucking win
I'm at the point in my life where if a vampire actually approached me and threatened to kill me by sucking my blood out like a caprisun I'd just let them. like things are going downhill already, so i might as well
im polytherian & syntherian and i luv imagine what form id have if i could shift, id be a mix of vampire, cat, spider, & fallen angel and maybe fox, undead, and cryptid
One’s alterhuman identity is usually made up of these 5 traits; voluntariness (level of choice), identification (identifying with, as, or not at all), connection (association & relation), self (without it, i am nothing), and identity (without it, i am changed). Additional traits would be strength/weakness, and level of separation/integration, which for (probably most) individuals the latter is less important/does not exist separately since it can align with levels of identification, connection, self and/or identity.
/ edit: Permanency/time/length & Origin/cause (spiritual, psychological, biological, etc) can also be traits. These were not considered at first because i got so caught up in the other traits. But since how long a ‘type/ones identity may last isn’t always known, it isn’t always applicable. One’s origin may be a very important part of their identity and may influence multiple other traits. /
All of these traits can be separate from one another. It is entirely possible for, lets say, an individual who identifies as a cat therian, to have that identity separate from their self. Their connection to therianthropy may be slim. All other traits are variable.
Similarly all of these traits can be integrated/aligned, making it difficult to tell each apart (or having them so together that they might as well just be one mega-trait). An example is an individual who identifies as an angel (regardless of voluntariness), who sees their angel identity to be 100% part of their self, feels this type very strongly, and because of all these traits being at their strongest, feels 100% integrated with this type. They may not even see angels as a ‘type anymore (see “coretypes”) and cannot imagine themselves without being an angel. This is the more extreme version of the experience you’ll see most often within the community.
Some traits may be connected to or be affected by other traits, meaning if one trait changes, the connected trait will change as well- like the angel example above, if all traits are at their strongest it is nearly guaranteed one will also be fully integrated. Additionally the strength of ones identity may affect levels of identification, connection or separation/integration.
Some terminology are associated with different levels of each trait- for example, one’s kintype would have one identifying as and is usually part of ones self; heart/kithtypes would have one identifying with, and more part of ones identity than self. Synpaths identify with but are usually not part of ones identity or self- but of course, these are not rules you must follow.
What constitutes something being part of ones self or identity is up to/depends on the individual, but usually if a ‘type is part of ones self, it is inseparable from that individual and/or one will have difficulty imagining themselves without being/having that ‘type. They may see themselves as an entirely different individual. They may not be able to imagine not having/being it at all. They may see that who they are as an individual will cease to exist without this type.
One will have less trouble doing so if it is solely part of their identity, but their actions, thoughts, etc. will have significant changes. They may not see themselves as a different individual, but they may appear as such.
Following all of this, if we chart our levels of each trait we could probably easily find terminology that aligns. I’m imagining some sort of flow chart or simple scale.
/ This trait system may not be 100% applicable to every single alterhuman- it’s incredibly difficult to make few categories and descriptors for infinite possible alterhuman experiences. These traits are just the most common and easily identified. ;; someone who is solely alterhuman and does not have any ‘types may struggle to identify themselves with specifically self / identity. /
That’s the end of my ramble- I’m interested in this being talked about more. It may help lots of individuals find themselves or understand themselves more.
