Evaluation
Over the course of this project, I’ve had some ups and downs in my progress. My downsides were my own personal problems, outside of my college work. I managed to overcome them and powered through my Graphic Design Advanced unit work. I treated this as both a personal project and unit work, which helped me keep motivation throughout the project.
Overall, I think this unit was good for me. It helped me relearn old tricks and utilise my current skills. This unit allowed me some freedom and I’m thankful to have finished on time.
However, I couldn’t have finished without the motivation from my friends. Thank you all for reading my blogposts and joining me on this journey.

Mock ups were quick to finish. I’ll also take the time to go over my book’s physical details. Dimensions of the book is 148mm by 148mm. The pages will be 130 gsm and have a silk finish. Finally, the book would be staple bound as there is only 12 pages.

My front and back cover pages. I chose a brown tone because its a neutral tone and I didn’t want to use black as my characters will blend in too much.

11/12 pages done. This one couldn't fit into the last post. I just need to finish the last page and my cover pages. I believe I should be done by tomorrow evening.

Alright, slight change of plans. I’ll be turning my book idea into a smaller square book with simpler backgrounds. The idea is that Yu and their bird will walk through various environments, while using the above walking poses. That way, I can focus on making a coherent scene and I can finish this project in time for the end of year show. Wish me luck!

This is the last of my development sketches. I swatched some colours to generalise what I want my pages to look like. I’ll now be working on my final pages and my covers.

Reference sheet for my character Yu and their pet bird, Kiwi. There’s no particular reason why I named the bird Kiwi, I just thought it was a cute name.

I made some quick (and very messy) little thumbnail/storyboard sketches. Following the structure of my last development sketches, we follow Yu out of their village and through many environments. Yu’s goal is to deliver a package in the city. I might change scenes later. I also sketched out some quick cover illustrations to see what I can do with the cover of the book. Yu’s pet is not in these sketches as I’m still deciding which animal I want to follow them.

First page of (messy) developmental sketches. I’ve spent most of this page on figuring out the basics of my story, where my character will go and how many pages they’ll spend at each location. I also took the time to draw the main character for my story, Yu. They have a pet and I’m currently trying to decide on whether I want them to have a cat or a bird.

3/3 of my initial sketches. These are some quick colour palette tests for my pages. I’ll be widening my colour choices in my developments. The reason for the rainbow colour palette throughout my book is because I want to try out new several colour palettes.

2/3 of my initial sketches/thoughts. These are some quick font tryouts. I mostly tried gothic styled fonts to match my fantasy theme. I don’t really like most of these so far, I’ll be revisiting font choices later.

1/3 of my initial sketches. I’ll be uploading the rest tonight, just fixing them before I do. This sheet is just my raw thoughts on stylistic choices so far. I tried simplifying my art style to make it more suitable for this project, as I’ll be focusing more on environments and backgrounds throughout development.
