Prediction! This post will get about 30 likes. Why do I put so much importance around Instagram? I take this so seriously and I can only hope pursuing my passion of making guitars could one day be my exit out of the corporate world. I literally typed up my exit announcement several times but it seemed immature. But the older I get the less I care what people think of me. The more honest I am. So! Do I care that my Instagram seems to be rapidly deteriorating in popularity? Yes I do. This is my baby. Farnsworth Guitars is kind of my world. A small world where I am my boss. The emotions run DEEP. I’ve thought about going to a stories only model where there are no lines! I can post my punk rock and look how polished this is videos! I can only be me, Brian Farnsworth. Flawed but super passionate. We shall see what the future holds for me. My dream isn’t to sell a bunch of guitars. My dream has kind of turned into sharing this passion with other people who want to build their own guitars. One day there could be a new business on Main Street Edmonds, WA called Guitar School where you come in and we build your first guitar. That would be so freaking rad. Ah, risk. I would say I hate it but I do keep taking risks. Like spraying my first real BURST. Yes! Saw this tip from @stewmac_guitar about protecting the top and back while I darken the sides up. Then it’s sand back any overspray and spray the amber color. Then there’s that whole burst part. Pencil and sand off. With this Birdseye, twice per grit. Works well, but MAN when you’re sanding and your arm is about to fall off and there’s still just a faint bit of pencil still showing and you’re just grinding! 😱 Haha. It’s brutal. Ah, spraying again. Such a love hate relationship with spraying lacquer. But I’m refreshed and ready. I’m spraying clear lacquer. I spoke to Mohawk customer service and apparently I’m laying it on WAY too thick 🤣 This particular product is rated for four thin coats. He’s like “how much have you been putting on?!” Let’s just say a little more than that 😁 He recommended their stringed instrument lacquer, which is not only rated for a thicker application but it’s also a bit more flexible. But for this walnut I’m hoping for an “open pore” finish. Not trying to fill every pore with the lacquer.
