Fanfic writers, I am begging you- even with dialogue that is clearly attributed, start a new paragraph with each new speaker. The reader shouldn't have to wait until after the dialogue is spoken to understand who is saying it.
Even if it's one word?
Yes.
But it makes things so long!
Great! Your stories will be the king of scrolling, a feast of thumbs, and a gentle stroke across a phone screen.
This convention exists for a reason! Each new paragraph should be a new idea or a new speaker. It's a shortcut for our brains to know that we have jumped across a gap and into the unknown, and you as the writer are about to explain to me where we have jumped to, but at least I know we are somewhere different.
Please practice this! I see so many good fanfic I want to read but except for this huge, glaring issue and it becomes impossible to understand what is happening.

I am so sick of this. My brother ignores his son every weekend and only gives him attention if his mother or someone else is here. Other than that he locks himself downstairs and fucking just plays games and shit. If you wanted a son, FUCKING SPEND TIME WITH HIM! I swear my brother and I are gonna have it out about my nephew and how much time he spends with him. I agreed to watch him NOT raise him, like I'm doing. He's taking advantage of my being family and free babysitting. But if it were babysitting, I would be getting paid.

I really need to fucking move out of my house. Currently, I live with my mother and my brother and his 3 year old son. But last year his sons mother left my brother and a few months later she got with a younger guy and now she's pregnant. But after she left, he states that he loves his son but he ignores him and locks himself downstairs and spends all of 10 minutes a day with the boy. And my mom and I have to take care of his son and his dog. We have to buy food for both his son and his dog, snacks and treats, clothes for his son and toys for both the son and the dog. Plus getting the dog groomed and bringing her to the vet. I was invited to move to Maryland with a friend and I really want to go, but I have to tell my family who's toxic beyond a fault. My mother makes everything about herself and my brother just shoots everything down and doesn't listen to a thing we say. But I AM moving next year, come hell or high water.
