Sorry for being chronically online but theres something so tender about seeing the first online interactions from years ago between mutuals who are now inseparable/besties/dating even. if you think the posts i make are bad you should see the thoughts i am thinking. in my mind

you know, i've seen people say that games like stardew valley should be relaxing and be used as an escape from reality, that you shouldn't stress over perfection as fast as possible. and to an extent, i could agree with it. yes, games, especially simulators, are generally meant to be slower paced than others, but that doesn't mean that you have to play it slow.

for me, i find it fun to try and do everything quickly. i'm also the type of person who completes all the side quests and challenges in subsequent playthroughs. i'm by no means a speed runner, nor do i know the most efficient ways to do things in every game i've played, but i like to push myself.

and it's still an escape from reality for me. it's a different type of stress, one that i have far more control over in a video game than the stress of real life. to go back to stardew valley, i'm stressed about the community center bundles before the season is over? i can pause the game and make a plan. i can replay the day if i did something wrong. while i don't have control over everything, it's still a game and i still decide how to play it. and when i do succeed? it feels great. i feel accomplished and proud and i can decide if i want to try again or move on.

of course, not everyone feels the same, which is perfectly fine and to be expected. some people like it slow, some people like to play the game by the rules, some people find out how to play the game most efficiently for them, others do something completely different. and i think that's amazing because we all experience it differently.
