A fictional herbivore I made up based upon several extinct animals (Quagga, Hipparion and Syndyoceras )

This is a fictional dinosaur I came up with awhile back, its design was influenced by the “Therizinosaurus” from Dino Crisis and the Carnotaurus from Chrichton’s Lost World (especially the arcade game equivalent). Its small but strong and heavily built hunter that’s to slow to catch fast prey or outrun larger predators. But like TLW Carno, it can turn invisible (its not meant to be realistic) to ambush agile prey or hide from faster predators.
It was part of a concept I toyed with for a fantasy Lost World style setting influenced by things such as Turok, Genndy’s Primal, King Kong and etc. The deer like animals are also fictional but loosely inspired by prehistoric artiodactyls with weird antlers.

I was commissioned to draw several fictional animals (Mapinguari, Waheela and Pard) for their speculative evolution project “Great Lakes Earth.”
https://specevo.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=2891&st=0
The first is a xenarthran (Mapinguari) that isn’t actually a sloth, and the other two (Waheela and Pard) are derived from basal lemur-like primates that evolved in a world without carnivorans such as bears and cats.

The new episode of Primal just aired and it even contained the mystery hyena dog looking predator. I know I already drew this animal a few months ago but I didn’t like how that drawing came out before so I redrew it, plus added a sketch of a pack of them hunting a young parasaurolophus.

Watched Plague of Madness (and loved it, probably my second favorite episode so far) ,and felt inspired to do more Primal fanart. But I wasn’t in the mood to draw dinosaurs so I drew this mysterious mammal that hasn’t appeared in the show yet, but appeared in promo images circulating around online.
Tumblr media
I can’t tell what the animal is supposed to be though. It resembles a mixture of brown hyena and african painted dog. It might just be a fictional animal like the sabertoothed wolves, but the show has shown some obscure prehistoric mammals before such as  Protoceratids and what might have been a  Palaeomerycid. Although I suspect the show makers didn’t actually know what the animals were and simply found them in vintage paleoart and decided to add them to show for flavor, not that I mind :D I’m all for obscure animals and vintage animal art.
For my portrayal I went with a fictional canine like animal with some hyena like traits. Although actual hyenas with dog-like bodies, that likely occupied canine-like niches, did once exist with some regarding the bug-eating aardwolf as the “last dog-like hyena”. Conversely bone-crushing dogs also once existed, but they didn’t really have hyena-like bodies and none are alive today.

I’ve been feeling really sad lately, so I drew a tiger for no reason.

This is awesome! I love how you do underwater settings, especially with the light coming down from the surface and the background fish.
Also, thank you for saying all those kind things ^^. I’m glad to be supportive.

Hey howdy folks! Hope you’re starting a good weekend!
It’s been a while I haven’t draw, but this week I’m more relaxed, so I took a while to continue with my series of mermaid gems, now with Amethyst!
I dedicate this to a great friend of mine, who have given me a lot of support, encouragement and love without asking anything in return. Because she’s one of their favorites from the gems. I hope you like @feli-form ^^
And I hope y'all like it as well of course.

I was going through some old africam screensnaps (a website that livestreams wilderness in africa http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php ), and found these (all from the Tembe cam). In the first image, there’s two male nyala (and a few females). The male nyala on the right is normal, but the male to the the left had a deformed antler (nyala antlers aren’t supposed to curve down like a sheep’s). In the second image is a close up view of his deformed antler.
Although I feel bad for the poor thing, it was really astounding I was online at the right time to see it.
I also came across a picture of a giraffe chilling with some impala. For some reason this giraffe really creeped out a friend of mine.
On my old computer I had some screenshots of a HUGE herd of cape buffalo that came and went in only a matter of minutes, but sadly those photos were lost with my old computer :(

An experimental comic thing based on a story concept I’ve always wanted to make, in some manner, of about a mother cat in a post-apocalyptic horror setting. I haven’t really done backgrounds in ages and still trying to figure out stuff, so that’s why there’s so much inconsistency with them.

Reposting some older primal fanart from my previous blog. I meant to make more (such as the hyena like animal that will probably appear in season 2, and various herbivores like a protoceratid) but I haven’t had the time.
Tumblr media
(To clarify I drew the sabertooth when the first trailer came out, before I later learned the “white sabertooths” in that trailer were actually meant to be wolves).

I saw the latest episode of Genndy’s Primal (A Cold Death). People initially thought Primal was going nothing but a mindless gory kill-fest like other adult swim shows. Yet there’s actually a lot of emotion, sadness and even heart in the show.
Without giving too much in this episode away, not only did only a single character die, but their death was treated as very meaningful. The episode’s entire plot was based around non-protagonistic characters mourning and wanting solace for the loss of their loved one (much like Spear himself did). All of which were animals with no dialogue whatsoever.
I also love how so far most of the shows characters are animals, which don’t even talk! Yet they’re able to convey so much feeling through expressions and gestures alone. I’m really glad someone finally made something like this.
edit: I forgot the Protoceratid in a flashback. But even that animal’s death had significance in that it showed Spear had respect for his prey. He felt bad for hunting animals but knew he needs to in order to survive.

I was previously “WeirdCatThing”
but moved to this new blog.
It’s a long story as to why I chose to move onto a new blog instead of altering the old one. But basically I wanted my animal/creature art blog to be my main blog (since I never actually used my old main blog) and because tumblr doesn’t allow for switching main blogs, I created a new account.

Hi folks! Hope you’re having a good Thursday!
This afternoon when I came home from work I felt like drawing something. At first I had not much idea of what, but I was thinking about a friend who asked a while ago if I was interested on cephalopod ancestors, and that’s why I had the inspiration to draw this.
It’s the enigmatic amonite! One of cephalopods’ prehistoric ancestors that lived 65 million years ago. There are cool facts to be said about amonites…but I feel too tired to do it right now, so don’t worry I’ll not give you a paleontology lession either *chuckles*

The above picture was made after I had drawn this hideous attempt at lionking fanart below.
Tumblr media
I felt really disappointed in myself for just how terrible the second felt to me, especially given how much I like drawing cats and how much I felt I had regressed in my ability to draw them. For that reason hat I decided I really needed to study big cat anatomy more, and learn better how to stylize them.
In the lion study pic, the lion to the upper left is the least stylized and intended to reflect traits I observed in photos and videos of real lions. While there is a very small amount of stylization (such as my art style for drawing thick fur), it is overall intended to be most “accurate” lion in this picture. The lion to the upper right is the most stylized and least accurate. While I certainly exaggerated things and took many creative liberties, I tried to make sure those traits still expanded upon elements I observed in real lions. His design is also based on a character concept from an older project www.deviantart.com/troodontida… Essentially the first lion represents learning the rules. The second lion represents intentionally breaking those rules once I learned them but in ways that expand upon what I learned. The lioness at the bottom is sort of intermediate. She’s not conservative in design as the upper left lion, but neither is she as stylized and cartoony as the second. I also experimented with misc minor details that weren’t in either of the previous lions. The little lion doodle to the lower left was just me trying to make a little summary of basic patterns/trends I noticed in coloration, especially the manes. It’s suprising how often lion manes are portrayed as dull colored when in real life they can actually have rather stunning patterns and colorations. Also manes can be incredibly varied among individual lions (which makes for a lot of potential for individual variation without even needing to exaggerate) but there were “trends” and many tended to share a similar basic pattern. Another thing not often portrayed are the cool looking markings on the eyebrows.

Various experiments with different animation styles (hand drawn, pixel and skeletal). All of these are various concept art for a horror concept (An apocalyptic horror story from the pov of wildlife rather than people, influenced by things such as Call of The Wild, Shelter 2, Primal, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Silent Hill and SCP Containment Breach)
The main character of this story is a mother cat trying to survive in a savage world. I’ll write a longer post going into greater details in the future but I’m trying to figure out how I should portray this concept/story.
