Restructuring the original?....

People have been wondering: Why does Don’t Go Yet say it is through Syco/Epic? Syco went defunct, didn’t it?

Yes, Syco Music, the actual working Label, did go defunct. The company that Syco Music did it’s business through, did not.

It seems, that Camila is still operating under her original contract. That would be the only reason Syco would still have any involvement in her new music.

How can that be, if the Label isn’t there? Because 5H didn’t sign a contract with Syco Music. They signed their contract through Simco Ltd. Simco is still in operation, and wholly owned by Sony. when the deal was made between Cowbell and Sony, all contracts that were through Syco/Simco simply stayed intact and in Sony’s hands. So, even though there is no longer a physical label operating under Syco Music, the contracts that were signed are still viable, because Simco is still an active operating company.

There is a difference in the way Camila’s music is contracted, though. All of her previous music was owned by Simco Ltd under exclusice licensing rights to Epic. Not now! DGY is now owned by Epic. There is no more exclusive licensing. Epic is the primary contract holder, and Syco/Simco is the secondary.

Sony transferred ownership of Camila’s masters to Epic. Epic now has FULL contractual control over Camila, and “Syco” is most likely the UK/European distribution leg. In other words, UK/European distribution is being handled by Sony Music UK, since it is the immediate parent company of Simco Ltd.

Again, what does all this mean? If I’m understanding the situation correctly, it should mean that Camila DID NOT resign with either company. With Syco still being credited, it shows that she is still releasing this era under her original contracts with Epic/Syco/Sony. That Sony simply restructured their joint venture contract, from a licensing agreement, to full contractual control to Epic, and distribution through “Syco”.

If we are correct in our thinking, with everything we have seen and been told, ‘Familia” SHOULD be the last album owed to both Epic and Syco/Simco/Sony UK.

Side Note: People are confused as to why the Cinderella movie and soundtrack didn’t count as one of her commitments to the original contract. The truth is, it never was. She signed a different contract with Sony Pictures, for the movie. Sony decided to distribute the soundtrack through Columbia. If it had distributed through Epic, there would have been a chance for it to count. She could have negotiated it count against her Epic contract.

Camila’s recording contract is through Epic/Sony…Not Columbia/Sony. Plus, the soundtrack isn’t just her music. It’s going to have songs from a variety of artists, not just Camila with a bunch of featured artists.

What we don’t know, is if this deal with Sony Pictures was a one off, or if she signed a POSSIBLE multi-picture deal with them.

Do you think Lauren’s album/songs are going to be made to seem like they are about Lucy/Ty like Camila’s romance album?

Technically, that's already happened. That's what the two podcasts with Becky G and Kittens was for.

Lauren has stated, more than once, she wants her art to speak for itself. She don't want to be out there explaining her art, to anyone. Of course she will be asked about it. Will she answer?

Honestly, it's no ones damn business who she writes about. It's no ones business what experiences she has been through. They are her personal experiences, and she doesn't owe anyone an actual explanation. If she wants to give one, she can. I just hope she isn't forced to give one.

Sometimes, too much explanation kills art. It's always best, to keep any explanation vague. She learned that with Expectations and MTT. As soon as she attributed both songs to Ty, her own fans stopped liking the songs.

I hope she does keep any explanation, if any, to a minimum. Just do what she has already said she wants, and let the music speak for itself. We'll draw our own conclusions, as we enjoy listening.

I'm glad to come across a blog that speaks the truth about the entertainment industry. I enjoy reading your posts/replies about how demanding, dictating and harsh the entertainment industry can be. I've been working in entertainment (TV and commercials for 12 years now) and witnessed the PR BS on a daily basis. I agreed with most of the things you pointed out about PR relationships, especially Showmila. Some PRs are just blatantly plain and simple, but some people (or should I say Showmila shippers) chose to ignore the fact that both celebrities are benefiting something from the PR. Since Cinderella has been released and the VMA is coming up, Camila got herself a real-life 'Prince’ to help promote Cinderella, and Shon got to be the Prince on the red carpet to promote himself. And people will get a shitload of photos & interviews of them being in love throughout the promotion. CS, brace yourself.

Thanks for the warning... Already tired of the bullshit!!!

um about the lucy likes regarding lauren on tiktok, it wasn’t only that. lucy also responded to a comment which clearly hinted that laucy was pr with an ‘ouch’ and then someone under her said ‘why ouch?’ and lucy responded ‘ouch that you dedicate yourself to watering fake gossip that above all, all they do is hurt the people involved that you don’t even know’. also afterwards someone commented under that, saying that lucy was the one who watered cheap fake gossip herself when she hinted that laucy was pr or that lauren had cheated on her and once again lucy replied ‘if you did not live the relationship or what happened it is simply not your responsibility to talk about it much less with authority’. so yea a lot more than just some likes happened that day and tbh i don’t know i might sound stupid but lucy’s words feel legit to me.i mean it’s not like her platform on tik tok is huge and everyone would notice what she replied to the point where she’d be obliged to lie and support a ‘narrative’. she could simply ignore these comments and the fact that she didn’t, kind of sits wrong with me 🤷‍♀️

The major question one should be asking themselves about this is...WHY NOW?!!!

Forget the narrative for a second. It has been FIVE YEARS. Why is Lucy still entertaining anything about Lauren? If Lauren treated her so badly, and supposedly cheated on her, why is still giving it attention?!!!

You are right, she COULD have simply ignored the shit. In fact, with all the shit she has gotten since that whole fiasco, she SHOULD have been blocking and muting the hell out of people, not giving them a space to project, let alone giving them her attention.

So, I ask again, WHY NOW? Lauren is back in the news with her Diane Warren song. Lucy released a single not long ago, with her father. You are paying more attention to WHAT she is saying. I'm more interested in the TIMING that it's being said. It doesn't matter what size her platform is. She has you talking and thinking about it...and now, you have me talking about it.

See how it works. She says something to get attention on her little platform. It gets your attention, and you come to other platforms to ask about it. Then me/they answer questions about it, and it just spreads from there. (by the way, when I opened my ask box, the first 6 questions was about this shit. This is the only one I'm answering for all of them)

One doesn't try to PUBLICLY defend a fucking "relationship" that ENDED five damn years ago. There is only one reason to do that. TO GET ATTENTION, period!!!!!

This will be big but i felt like sharing my thoughs. I love camila, so so much…but I feel like sometimes people are praising her too much. Camila loves fame, no matter how many of you deny it, it’s pretty obvious that she does. I’ve seen plenty of arguments on twitter regarding the 4H vs C topic and I can’t help but notice some people saying stuff like “camila didn’t choose to be in this position”, “all the girls treated her like shit when it wasn’t even up to her decide”. Well obviously I know the feud between the 5H girls was fake, but it really messes with me that people still continue to paint camila as the victim. Even tho camila may have not betrayed the other girls as they tried to make it seem, she sure as hell accepted this full of privileges position she was given since the beginning. And I’m not saying this is a bad thing, because honestly which one of us would deny such opportunity, if we were in her place? But most of us and I’m also talking about me, tend to forget that camila is also a person who has negative traits, not only positives. Unfortunately one of her biggest negatives, is that she grew to love the spotlight. And if you really think about it, it makes sense since she was always so shy around people and when she got a taste of the “pop star” life, she felt mesmerised by it. From my point of view, as soon as she got that taste she also started craving the “bigger” things. Big arena concerts, awards, people loving her. For example lauren might love her job as an artist, but she undeniably hates the fame that comes with it. She’s just in it because she truly wants to share a piece of her soul and justify the definition of a true artist. And I’m not saying that mila is not, she sure as hell wants to create art. But if you ask me, the difference between these two is that lauren would be completely content with singing in a room full of people who simply appreciate her art, whilst camila would prefer to be in an arena full of people who sing her songs and scream her name. Not that laure wouldn’t like that, but I think you get the point. And I don’t know if anyone noticed, but until a few years ago well actually before the pandemic started, her management continued to push down the image of this “goofy innocent” girl who was happy all the time. She also pushed it herself because that was her job! No matter how much we think we know her,camila is still a pop star in the music industry who plays a part, just like everyone else who works in that damned department. And based on the above I’d like to point out that (no matter how many of you disagree with this) nobody is forcing camila to stay in the closet. Yes I know I sound ridiculous but hear me out. There isn’t a single contract which can legally force someone to hide their sexuality. Yes her management may have warned her not to come out in fear of losing profits and even blackmailed her, but at the end of the day it’s her choice. If she desperately wanted to come out as we all make it seem, she would’ve done it by now. The fact that she doesn’t, should tell us, that afterall she does care about her image. Even if that’s taking a toll on her now, it was her decision to follow that path. It was her decision to stay in the closet, it was her decision to accept the pr with shawn and it was her decision to keep playing the “happy” girlfriend to the media. No matter how much she was manipulated by this hell hole, camila is a pretty clever person. If she didn’t want any of this and simply wanted to be authentic to herself and the rest of the world, she simply wouldn’t care if she lost the title of the pop princess. But she does care. And it’s completely normal at this point, cause in this industry either you lose yourself or you come out stronger. Unfortunately I believe that camila’s case belongs to the first occasion. I don’t think that present camila we see in interviews or shows or whatever is the real camila. That camila is long gone. Anyway sorry if this was exhausting and thanks to anyone who read it all,cause I really wanted to share this with someone

Good Lord, Anon, that's a lot to unpack. I will start by saying, I agree with some, and disagree with some of what you had to say. Now, where to start...

You say it still messes with you, that everyone still portrays Camila as the victim. Are you going to deny that Camila WAS/IS victimized? The truth is, they were ALL victimized. They are ALL victims of an abusive Industry.

You said, "she sure as hell accepted this full of privileges position she was given since the beginning." You are either forgetting, or just plain don't care, that Fifth Harmony was a highly controlled entity. There was no choosing, or "accepting" privileges. They each did what they were told to do, said what they were told to say, and acted the way they were told to act. They were each given a role to play, and they were contractually obligated to play that role.

Yes, they were contractually obligated to act a certain way. There has been ample proof given, that none of the girls had any control over their PUBLIC image. Camila still has no control over her PUBLIC image, because there has been ample proof, she is still operating under her original contract.

Did Camila choose to sign that original contract? Yes, she did. Did she read that original contract? According to Lauren, probably not. None of them did. Did Camila agree to sign her solo contract? Yes, she did. But as I've explained before, if she wanted to continue in the music industry, she had no choice but to sign the solo contract they offered her. That solo contract is still connected to her original contract.

Camila is a human being. We ALL have positive and negative traits. Camila, all the ladies of 5H, you and me, we all have our positives and negatives. None of us are perfect.

You said, "one of her biggest negatives, is that she grew to love the spotlight." Why is that a negative? Hell, they ALL wanted the spotlight. Every person who gets into the Entertainment Industry, wants to get themselves in the spotlight. They all want to succeed in the field of their choice. To succeed, they have to garner the attention, and live in the "spotlight", in one way, or another.

Every one of them auditioned on a NATIONALLY TELEVISED talent show. They wouldn't have done that, if they didn't want to be noticed, and hopefully thrust into the spotlight of success. They ALL wanted that spotlight of success to be as solo artists. It's didn't quite work out that way. But, they ALL chose to try and achieve that spotlight as a group.

If one has been paying attention, from the beginning, Camila made no bones about her desired dream. She has stated from the beginning, she wanted to be a "pop star". Of course she wanted the spotlight. Lauren has said, from the beginning, she wanted to be "famous and travel the world". She wanted to be a famous star, in the spotlight.

Since you have chosen to compare Camila and Lauren, I'll answer to them. You seem to think there is this big chasm between the two. There really isn't. The only difference is the outcome, thus far. Lauren STILL wants the spotlight and fame, she just wants it on her terms. The problem is, it's damn near impossible to get that success on ones own terms, in an Industry that insists on dictating the terms.

That's a more recent decision on Lauren's part, by the way. You seem to be conveniently forgetting, that until 2019, Lauren also "chose" to play the game on THEIR terms. It was most likely, a two year PR contract, with a drug addicted gang-banger that turned her off of THE GAME. Lauren was pissed, that after all that, her debut album got shelved in 2019. I DON'T BLAME HER!!! I'm sure that also contributed to her decision, that THEIR TERMS suck ass.

Does Camila "crave" the big concerts, accolades, and people loving her? Yes, she does. They ALL do, or they wouldn't have signed solo contracts after putting 5H on hiatus. Instead, they would have said "this Industry sucks" and walked away. They didn't. They ALL craved more.

Lauren wants the same thing Camila has, just on her terms. Lauren doesn't "hate fame". She hates the negative side of fame. She hates having her life dictated by terms and schedules. She hates being told what to say, and how to act. She hates that fans get all up in her business.

She loves the nicer side of fame. She wants to see a lot of people come and see her perform. She loves to be on stage and see her fans singing and dancing to her music. She appreciates the accolades. She loves the love she gets from her fans. She would love even more, if her fans would multiply, and buy and stream the hell out of her music, instead of always bitching, telling her who she is, and how she should be, and getting all up in her damn business.

All one has to do, is listen to Lauren and the anger inside her about all this mess. She wants more. She wants more than a fucking "room full of people" enjoying her art. She wants a stadium full of people enjoying her art. WHO THE FUCK WOULDN'T. She just wants that stadium full of people to enjoy her art, and not expect more than that from her. I'm sure Camila would appreciate the same damn thing.

Unfortunately, that's simply not how the music industry is set up, these days. The difference is, Camila has accepted the fact, that she IS the product. Lauren has not. Lauren don't want to be a product. She wants her music/art to be the product.

I've said it a million times, the music industry hardly sells music, anymore. The music Industry sells the artist. The music has become a bi-product of the Artist. The Industry knows which artists will sell, and which ones won't. They know what image will sell, and which ones won't. Be the artist THEY want you to be, THEY'LL make you a star, and maybe even famous. If not, good luck.

Finally, you are completely right. There isn't a contract out there, that says someone can't come out of the closet. That would be blatant discrimination, and wouldn't pass the muster of the legal system. But, when you sign away control of your own image in a contract, that gives the contract holder the rights to dictate what your PUBLIC image will be. If they want you to have a straight PUBLIC image, then you'll have a straight PUBLIC image. If THEY want you to have a "good girl next door" image, then that's the PUBLIC image you'll have. You signed away your rights to be your authentic self, when you signed away the rights to control how others see you, period!!!

IN MY OPINION, Camila has come out of the closet so damn many times, I can't even count any more. She just has to do so, in a way that isn't obvious to those who have control over how others see her. Take her last video, for instance. When one listens to terms she chooses to use, and does a bit of research, you'll discover, what I believe is the hidden meaning behind that video. If I'm correct in MY THINKING, she has yet again, screamed her truth from the rooftops, for those who choose to listen, and understand.

As for the PR contracts...I was the first person to say, Camila made the choice to sign into those particular contracts. When one signs away control over their own public image, it also allows those in control to dictate that one MUST enter into PR contracts to help THEM present the PUBLIC image THEY want for that particular artist. The artist gets a say in which person that PR is with, simply because they HAVE to agree to sign the contract with that particular person.

So, did Camila agree to sign into this PR contract with the human hair ball? She absolutely did....And NO ONE should be surprised by it. It is quite clear that this shit has been in the making, since June/July of 2015. Hell, after that shit show with the British Bore, even the majority of the fandom was asking for it. The timing was right, and here we are.

Lastly, Camila is always stepping out of the closet, like I said above. IN MY OPINION, she wants her fans to know who she truly is, but that doesn't mean she wants to tell the world in definitive terms. Like Lauren, she wishes people could simply appreciate the music, and leave per private life out of it, but she also knows that's a pipe dream, and not reality.

She knows, the second she decides to speak her truth aloud, her career takes, yet another, blow. I also think, that's one of the reasons THEY, through the media, make sure her ignorant youth is continuously brought up. The more she has to fight to get through that hardship, the more she will want to keep her truth a secret. (yes, a definite manipulation tactic)

Camila could decide to say, fuck it all, and come out with her truth at any time, after her contract is up. She could also decide never to PUBLICLY come out. It's her choice, unless people in power decide to take that choice away from her.

Whitney Houston took her truth with her to the grave. Taylor lives with her truth, one foot in the closet, and one foot out. That's basically what Camila is doing now. IN MY OPINION. Her public foot is in the closet, and her music/art foot is out. If people cared more about the music/art, they would get the authentic truth. If you care more about her public image, you'll get exactly what THEY want her to be.

People try to tell you, and others this all the damn time. Take the recent interviews. If you notice, Camila, and others are always saying how vulnerable, honest, and authentic she is, IN HER ART. Her truth is in her craft, whether acting or music. Her PUBLIC image, is just that, an image to sell to the PUBLIC. Everyone in the Entertainment Industry has one...Even Lauren. Yes, she did play the game. She still has her toe in the game, she just isn't playing it at a high level, right now...and, unfortunately for her, it shows!!!

I'm confused. You have said Camila pays for her team, but the music anon on other blogs has said the label pays for Camila's team. Can you explain this so I can understand. Thank you.

I’ll try...Every Artist, signed to a major label, has two teams. They have their personal team, and their Label team. Camila has her own team, then she has an Epic team.

Epic team--- creative director: Anita Marisa Boriboon. A&R: Joey Arbagey. Marketing: David Bell. Digital marketing: Lisa Kasha. Publicity: Darren Baber. Business affairs: Stephanie Yu. These are Epic employees, that oversee Camila’s career at the Label.

Camila’s Team--- creative director: (as of Romance album) Amber Parks. Managers: Roger and Gian, through Gold Music Management. Legal team: lead by Don Passman. Publicity: Dvora, at Lede, and Shoshonna Stone. Business manager: Phil Sarna, and others at PS Business Management. Agents: WME agents. Camila hires, or signs with these people, and pays them herself, or a percentage of her net profits.

Karla's interview guide

A lot of you guys have asked me about how interviews work and I decided to explain this based on my own experience in journalism and PR. Beware, it’s gonna be long.

Let’s divide and conquer:

Proactive interviews

Reactive interviews

Press statements

Paid content

Media training

PROACTIVE INTERVIEWS

This is when someone’s PR team makes a suggestion to a journalist of their choice about a topic the team wants to highlight in the press. For example: if Camila wants to talk about her new album, her PR team will reach out to relevant media groups in order for her to share this story. The journalists may refuse the topic, but that hardly happens when your client is famous. Despite being the one to push the subject, the PR teams have no control over what the journalists will ask or how they’ll write their stories.

Many interviews we see out there (especially when promoting a new single or era) are proactive interviews set up by Camila’s or Lauren’s PR team.

REACTIVE INTERVIEWS

This is when the journalist approaches their PR teams, requesting an interview or a statement about any given subjects. For example: if a journalist is working on a story about LGBT artists, they may reach out to Lauren’s team because they want to hear her story and opinions. After that, there are a few procedures that the PR team may follow:

A first analysis followed by a recommendation. The PR teams will explain the journalist’s story to the artist and their teams and they will leave a recommendation either to accept or to decline. The final choice will always be the artist and their team’s, regardless of our recommendations.

Regardless, the PR team will get in touch with the journalist to let them know of their final decision.

If it’s been accepted, the PR team will prepare a briefing with the topics the artist should mention in the interview and with recommendations. For example, let’s say Lauren’s team accepted an interview request for a story about LGBT artists. They will prepare a briefing with the topics that might be most appealing to the journalist and give her some recommendations (do not get in confrontations, for example). This doesn’t happen in e-mail interviews, where the PR team reviews the answers instead.

On the day of the interview (phone, conference call, live), a member of the PR team will be there to chaperone the artist and to protect them in case things go off track. That cannot be done live on radio or TV however.

After the interview, the PR team will give feedback on the artist’s performance and will send the journalist any material that may help them in writing their story.

PRESS STATEMENTS

This is more common during a crisis. It’s when media groups request for an artist’s statement over a sensitive topic. Instead of handling those interviews one on one, the PR team may prepare a press statement and send it to any media group who requests a comment on that matter. For example, when asked about Camila’s leaving the group, 5H’s PR team could’ve prepared a statement and sent it to the media instead.

PAID CONTENT

This is when your client pays the media group to craft a story. Contrary to popular belief, this does not happen a lot because it’s very expensive and such money could be better employed in other areas. And there’s always a header letting the reader know that it’s paid content. Also, the client has total control over what will be published since they’re paying.

MEDIA TRAINING

Any public person has to be media trained these days. In that training, they will learn how the press work and how they can work around to pass on their key messages. In my own experience, it’s very intense. There will be people watching how you behave and looking for clues in your answer. And, believe me, they will find it. In one of the media trainings I took part in, I saw a CFO from a multinational group share details about a new factory they were building (which was not public information). I saw many executives cave under the pressure. That’s how much they push you.

Let’s say, 5H will go through a media training. They will be interviewed separately. Anything one of them said will be asked to the other and their answers must match, always (not in structure, but in content). They can’t have, for example, Ally and Camila saying Bo$$ is their first single while Dinah and Lauren say it’s Sledgehammer and Normani says it’s Worth It.

Now, let’s move on to interview types and how they work:

E-mail: when the journalist requests the answers be sent by e-mail. Those are the easiest to tackle, since the PR team gets to review the answers before sending them.

Audio: when the interview is carried out by a phone or conference call (without video). In those situations, the PR team is the one connecting both parties and they will stay on line to make sure it all goes well. If needed, they can interfere to help the artist. P

Video: when the interview is recorded through a conference call or in a studio. That usually requires a higher degree of attention to details. For example, no weird gestures with your middle finger and try not to wear any green clothes if you know people will use chromakey. A member of the PR team will chaperone the recording as well.

Live: when the artist gives an interview live on radio or on TV. In such cases, the PR team may watch or listen, but they may not be able to save the artists if they need help for obvious reasons. Dvora can’t interrupt Camila live on TV, for example. That’s why live interviews are the hardest and the spokespeople are thoroughly prepared to it. They can’t escape or pause, so they need to have their key messaages on the tip of their tongues.

Media Analysis: Normani x Rolling Stone (2020)

Normani is on the cover of Rolling Stone and it got me rolling my eyes at how bad American journalism is. I mean, seriously. There was no story here, much less to be on the cover of RS. But we’ll keep rolling.

The article starts with how Normani is a perfectionist because there were about 50 versions of Motivation before the final cut. Kelly Rowland even told her she was “bugging a little bit”. Cool. From a technical aspect, the journalist started the article with what we call “nariz de cera” in Brazil. It’s interesting information, but not the hot stuff, if you know what I mean.

Normani’s perfectionism comes from a place of early-career trauma. In Fifth Harmony, the singing group that also gave the world Camila Cabello, she was the underdog.

So, Normani is a perfectionist because of 5H? I can understand that 5H was big trauma for all of them, but Normani’s perfectionism doesn’t come from here. It comes from her astounding work ethic. And what is the need to throw Camila’s name so early into an article about Mani? Where are the rest of the girls? Nothing?

When she was the only member whose vocals were left off a song, she began to question what the hell she was even doing.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! What about Dinah (Bo$$ and Sledgehammer) and Lauren (Worth It)?! It’s obvious that the journalist didn’t do proper research. She just went through with the story her main source (Normani’s team) brought to her. And she didn’t even have to look deep, since Bo$$, Sledgehammer, and Worth It have all been released as singles. We all 5H’s line distribution wasn’t fair, but we don’t need to spread fake stories in order to prove that.

Also, Normani’s team has been selling the story that No Way was the song Normani’s vocals were supposedly left off, but Mani is the one with the most lines in that song second only to Lauren.

To all journalists out there, DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH.

When I meet her one January day, at a go-kart track outside L.A., she’s dressed-down in black basketball shorts and a matching black Aaliyah shirt.

I hate when American journalists do that. No one fucking cares. This is subjective, news stories should be mostly objective. But at least this tells me that it was probably Normani’s team who invited her for this kart meeting and that they wanted to pass on the story that Normani is a huge pop star in the making, but still a sweet girl at heart.

Her faith is a grounding bit of normalcy: She’s a devout Christian, frequently attending services in L.A.

We already knew that. But Christians, please, stream Normani’s music in any platform you’d like.

Even her high-profile friendships slant toward ordinary. She spent her January on a girls’ trip to Jamaica. While touring with fellow night-in enthusiast Grande over the summer, they watched Bohemian Rhapsody on the bus and did face masks together.

Do you see that? She’s just a girl next door *eyeroll at the journalist for falling for all of this and failing at making an interesting question*

She estimates she’s about halfway through the album, and hopes to have a single out by summer. It’s a monumental step for someone who spent six years not having a say in her music.

This is all the information we needed. And, yes, we gotta keep selling the “we didn’t have freedom at 5H” narrative. It’s true, but it doesn’t mean that they’re free by now or that it isn’t used for narrative purposes.

The journalist moves on to tell us about Normani’s story and left us this gem:

A handful of those songs became pop-radio staples, and their six years together revolved around an unenviable schedule of constant touring and promotion. The girls would only go home for the holidays, and even those periods were cut short by other commitments.

Another bit of interesting information. This confirms that 5H went through the 1D treament indeed, since they all went through rough schedules.

During the ordeal, Cabello came to her defense in a series of vaguely worded tweets, but Fifth Harmony were ill-equipped to handle the situation. Normani describes it as “them not knowing how to be there for me the way that I needed it because it wasn’t their own experience, and because when they look at me they don’t see me.”

Is that supposed to be a dig at CALD? Is she saying that Lauren, as woke as she claims to be, wasn’t supportive? Or is it a dig at their management, who didn’t allow them to properly react? I think the latter, but the wording was dangerous here.

Recently, Cabello came under fire when it was verified that she had shared and written racist slurs and memes on a personal Tumblr she maintained around the age of 14. Since 5H Cabello and Normani have interacted at award shows, where their paths have repeatedly crossed, but when I talk with her, Normani is still wrapping her head around those Tumblr posts. As a black woman with young black fans, she wants to be “concise” with how she addresses it. “I just want to make sure that anything I say is exactly what I mean,” she offers. “I’ll get back to you on that.”

This whole paragraph just showed how biased (or amateur) the journalist is. First off, “it was verified” is a dangerous expression here since the proof of Camila’s old Tumblr wasn’t audited. Anything with “supposedly” would be better here. In Brazil, we never accuse someone of a crime, even if they’ve been convicted for it. Instead of saying “John Doe, the murderer”, we say “John Doe, convicted of murdering” because one day the truth may come out and prove us all wrong.

Secondly, she posted the link to the fake leak, but didn’t post any pics of recent Normila. I don’t know, maybe because the smiles on their faces would contradict her whole article. Or maybe she didn’t do proper research. Again.

Normani was actually very good in her answer: she didn’t want to compromise, so she asked for time and sent an answer by e-mail. An answer, of course, thoroughly revised by her PR team.

Finally, the journalist didn’t try to reach Camila for comment. Again, ignoring a basic rule of journalism. You should always hear every side of a story and Camila’s was completely ignored here. If she had at least tried to, we would have a “Camila refused to comment on that matter” or something like that. Then you may argue that this story is about Normani in the first place. Then why the fuck are they bringing up Camila’s name at every moment?! Camila should be only a slight mention, not half the story!

It would be dishonest if I said that this particular scenario didn’t hurt me. It was devastating that this came from a place that was supposed to be a safe haven and a sisterhood, because I knew that if the tables were turned I would defend each of them in a single heartbeat. It took days for her to acknowledge what I was dealing with online and then years for her to take responsibility for the offensive tweets that recently resurfaced. Whether or not it was her intention, this made me feel like I was second to the relationship that she had with her fans.

I would have asked: oh, really? Then, where were you, Normani, when Camila was attacked with sexist and xenophobic comments?

But anyone with a brain knows 5H didn’t have full control of their accounts. Even if Camila wanted to apologize, she might not have been allowed to until they realized she had to say something. And she may never have said everything she wanted to say because. This applies to all situations in 5H.

In Cabello’s absence, however, Normani seemed to become the group’s de facto leader, dominating the solos and choreography.

Bish, where? First off, are they really trying to start a fight with the Jaguars Coven? Lstans and Nstans all kept fighting for a leadership that didn’t exist. Secondly, Dinah is the one with the most lines in 5H3.

Since then, every member has released solo music, to varying degrees of success.

The. Shade.

Just an hour before dinner, she watched Lizzo take home a Grammy in a pop category, which she finds inspiring.

WTF? Nobody cares about Lizzo in a story about Normani, where’s the hot stuff?

Normani wants the album to be a confessional statement, less focused on hits and more on the longevity of her career. […] As for those Grammys across town, Normani isn’t too concerned about taking one of the golden gramophones home.

To finish this masterpiece of bad journalism and manipulation, we have this beautiful picture of Normani. I guess blue butterflies are a 5H thing?

Honestly, Normani deserved much more than a sensationalist article trying to sell her for the drama. She deserves much more than her team bringing up stuff that hurts her and her friends (not only Camila, but L, D, and A too) just for the sake of it. I suppose one of them may answer in one way or another and then we’ll go deeper into the drama.

How would I write this story? It’s clear to me that there ain’t no story here, much less for a cover. I would either question her about her upcoming album and it would have been a short interview, maybe only for the website. Clearly, not a cover story. I would only give her a cover story if she gave me details on her album first hand.
