ONE HOUR AGO: greg abbott, who i have the great displeasure of calling my governor, is calling for the expulsion and jailing of ut austin students exercising their first amendment right to freedom of speech an assembly. every single motherfucker on the right soooo concerned about the first amendment seems to be creaming their pants over college students being brutalized and arrested for protesting. its fucking reprehensible.

regarding your starbucks in egypt post. a friend of mine once overheard my (indian) partner say something about mailing something home to her parents and said with no trace of irony "wait, do they have postal addresses in india?"

their excuse was that they've been to costa rica to do field work and their research house in the middle of nowhere didn't have an address. they didn't seem to understand why this train of logic was insufficient

i'm sure there's places in SWANA that don't have starbucks but what gets me about the questions is the implication that egypt COULDN'T POSSIBLY have starbucks. not that it may not have made a business partnership with starbucks, as not all countries must, but that egypt is ontologically incapable of having a popular coffee shop store chain lmao

yes! once, as a kid, before the revolution, so i'm sure it's much more different than i remember. but i remember that the summer heat was much more bearable there!! and god it was so pretty! the sea, obviously, but also just the buildings and the markets. i want to go again sometime.

Ghazzah was once a thriving sea port, a center of medical knowledge, well-known for its textiles and beautiful patterns.
