If a physician of high standing, and one’s own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression—a slight hysterical tendency—what is one to do?
John does not know how much I really suffer. He knows there is no REASON to suffer, and that satisfies him.
- The Yellow Wallpaper | Charlotte Perkins Gilman

I finally got around to fulfilling my Gothic duty and reading The Yellow Wallpaper and agskecvhwk holy fuck I love it. The decent into madness, the layers upon layers of metaphors, the fact that this story changed an entire generation's use of a medical practice???
If y'all were also failed in public school and didn't read it, PLEASE do yourself the favor. It's only ten pages.

‘It is the strangest yellow, that wallpaper! It makes me think of all the yellow things I ever saw – not beautiful ones like buttercups, but old foul, bad yellow things.’
It really looks like I bought an iPad.
It’s probably a life-changing event just for me, but I don’t know if I ever spent so much money on something; even my Canon camera only costs half as much as this money-grabbing apple with all the accessories. x,) …But it’s really good. I understand the hype; the apple-pen is just amazing. And I had never used different brushes before. I had my 2-3 go to ones in Sai (mainly airbrush ones), but Procreate is next level.
So, as a test, I made an illustration for The Yellow Wallpaper short story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. This was a buddy reading story back in October (…so I read it in the middle of May), but I have to leave it M. was absolutely right, I loved it. *-* I’m usually not a very good match with old horror short stories, I hardly find them scary enough. But even if I wouldn’t call this particularly scary, it’s certainly thought-provoking, and I love those things that can stay in my brain for weeks.
If anyone hasn’t read it yet, I can highly recommend it. ;)

When I say I want adaptations of my favourite books, I don't mean the Netflix/Disney/Amazon bullshit we have been getting.
I want a mid-budget 90s style indie movie version of The Secret History. I want a 2010s cheap looking AFTG show. I want short films based on Assembly or The Yellow Wallpaper. I want officially filmed Broadway musicals and plays. I want abstract movies based on poetry collections.
I want the people who are adapting these text to think about the style and the format and the story and how to connect these three elements into the best it can be, not into something that will make the most money.

In my head, I see this as a cosmic love story and that these two little sort of aliens can find each other.

[dune spoilers]
at the end of dune 2, paul extends his hand to the emperor, and the emperor doesn’t take it right away, and paul stomps his foot. it’s authoritative, but childish. it’s the perfect encapsulation of who paul is in that moment. his naïveté and his grandiosity all tied into one. brilliant
