âA Little Pieceâ is a song of loneliness which came at a moment of realization where I recognized I was no longer happy, and hadnât been for some time.Â
My mind had tricked me, and I felt the weight of my own internal deceit taking over like a tower blocking out the sunlight.Â
Depression was playing tricks on my mind. Tears were falling and I didnât try to stop them.Â
I wanted out, I wanted peace, but I didnât know up from down anymore.
I remember the exact moment I wrote this song. I was sitting at a beautiful grand piano while attending an artist residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts. It was just after dinner, early evening, but it was completely dark outside as it was winter, and the sun had already set a few hours back.Â
I felt the darkness wrap itself around me as I sat in this large room, alone, just me and the piano.Â
I felt the heat of my tears creeping down my cheeks, and the echo of quiet lingering behind each note I played. I allowed the moment to just hold me, and me it, as the song fell from my tears onto the keys.

that details a turbulent experience of trauma and PTSD
Realma - Down the Railway Spine
âWhile Iâd say, on the surface, there is some affinity towards tracks from League of Legends or Hidden Citizens, I believe my single flares a much more experimental edge⊠One of the factors being the highly irregular 7/8 rhythm that drives the fierce orchestration, alongside various vocal and synth effects, towards a breaking point. I think this is because âDown the Railway Spineâ delves deep into my innermost dystopian moments dealing with PTSD. The lyrics and the music both describe those dark times when I'd been fighting a whirlpool of emotions in episodes of mental deterioration. Yet, there is also a heroic undertone to the track, something undefeated, where I address those pieces of us that remain courageous and continue to defy even the eyes of the worst downward spirals... So, more than just being a song where I try to slash my own internal demons, itâs something Iâd like to dedicate to all those battling trauma too.â
In light of the above, the title of the song stems from the nineteenth-century term 'railway spine', when doctors encountered unexplainable symptoms experienced by passengers involved in railroad accidents - unaware it was an early form of PTSD. Within such historical context, âDown the Railway Spineâ represents the artistâs own ongoing journey confronting a giant roller coaster of mental health symptoms â often opposing and clashing â ranging from depression to anxiety and emotional numbness to irritable panic attacks. The conflict is thus transformed both lyrically and musically into an intense sonic experience, which at points recalls the feeling of a filmic boss battle.
Taken a step further, the 3D animated music video for the song, created in collaboration with the award-winning animator, Mihajlo Dragaƥ, tells the story about an interstellar racer on a mission to save his younger sibling. Reminiscent of futuristic, neon-clad visuals seen in films like Tron and Blade Runner (both released in 1982), the animation propels the audience into an odyssey across three contrasting planets, with a cataclysmic monster waiting in each:
"Since previous collaborations with Realma leaned more towards fantasy and mysticism, working on âDown the Railway Spineâ felt like a breath of fresh air. I am a huge fan of Tron and Blade Runner, so for this animation, I wanted to pay homage to them, as their influence significantly shaped the visual identity of the contemporary Sci-Fi art form. From the technical perspective, the video has also been the most demanding one yet - with three expansive worlds, various effects, and large monsters â all to visually assist the epic undertones of Realma's song. In combination with her music, my main goal was to sweep the viewer through the main character's combats, emotional journey and motivation, all in one breath."

âWriting Panorama was a way of me expressing how I feel about the world today, through my eyes. Itâs really messed up sometimes and I think we can all see it. I am really hopeful, and I love life but I find every time I turn my TV on itâs full of hate. From the little things like our obsession for brands to the much bigger issues, like, when do I need to build my Nuclear bunker? We just need to love each other. NOW!â

that is a testament to the unbreakable bonds and unforgettable memories we make in life
Hollow Coves - See You Soon
âSo you have made a new best friend somewhere in the world and youâve shared so many great memories with them. Your time together comes to an end and you go your separate ways. Life gets busy and your communication together gets more and more distant. Eventually, you forget to ever contact them or call them but you always have moments in your life that remind you of them or the memories you shared together. This song is all about this feeling and trying to encourage the listener to reconnect with those people. Just send them a message or give them a call and see where theyâre at. Iâm sure theyâd really appreciate it.â

I'm not sure why I had been convinced Tom Odell would play the Rockhal Club - maybe because he played at den Atelier last time and I couldn't imagine him changing to a so much bigger venue. I was a bit stressed out arriving at the venue and finding five waiting lines, but in the end, it was no problem getting a good front row spot. Phew.
What can I say about the gig? It was simply perfect, from Tom's own performance, to that of his band and the light show. We didn't wait afterwards (work!), but here's a photo that was taken 11 years ago after my first Tom Odell gig đ
Wasia Project (supporting Tom Odell), Rockhal Esch-sur-Alzette (LU), 19.03.2024
Yes, I have watched Heartstopper (even though I'm not a teen or young adult - or young at all đ), but when I checked out the announced support act and came across a relation to the tv show, my first thought was that a song of theirs must have been used LOL Upon further research, I obviously found out the truth.
While it was nice seeing William Gao live, his sister definitely stole the show - what a voice!! And what an absolutely captivating stage presence. Half an hour was way too short and I really hope to get another chance to see Wasia Project live, preferably at a headline show.

that voices disgust at a world that revolves around greed
Church of Trees - That's All
Though âhopefulâ, chief songwriter Bernard Frazer vents a profusion of anger across the album, particularly in the opening track, That's All.
The driving electro-rock number features Failureâs Kellii Scott on drums and Blinker The Star's Jordon Zadorozny on guitar.Â
The blistering rant pointedly voices disgust at a world that revolves around greed, while turning a blind eye to its disastrous consequences:Â
"Greed burns down the heart of the Amazon, money-love & cheats at the heart of it all"

Fun fact: I listened to Maiva on my way to Frankfurt without knowing it đ€Ș My daughter drove and had Spotify on and when I told her in front of the venue that I hadn't gotten round to listening to Maiva, she looked at me as if I was crazy and told me that she had played her entire (yet rather small) discography on the way. One reason why I hadn't noticed was that I was convinced Maiva would sing in German LOL
I liked her performance a lot and am already looking forward to seeing her supporting Raum27 next month (another German singing band, I can't be blamed for thinking Maiva would sing in German too, can I).
You too can listen to her entire discography while driving here.
Editors at den Atelier, Luxembourg, 09.03.2024 (2)
As always with Editors, it was a great evening. The best I ever had with them? Well... no, not really. The performance gave me no reason to complain, but the order of songs on the setlist didn't quite work for me. First world problems đ
Looking forward to a new album (not that there was any mention of one - but then again, Tom hardly talked at all), which will hopefully do more for me than the last one. Not expecting it to replace In Dream as my favorite one though.
Editors at den Atelier, Luxembourg, 09.03.2024 (1)
This was the final gig of the tour, and Editors were kind enough to call it "a perfect end" on Instagram, though I think it must have been quite the difference playing to about 1200 people after two sold out nights at the Sportspalais in Antwerp (which holds 23.000 people...). The gig had sold out so fast that I had hoped it would actually be upgraded to Rockhal, if only to have a better chance at a front row spot. Well, we made it to the front row on the balcony, which was probably a lot more comfortable (i.e. not quite as hot) than downstairs.
Wings of Desire (supporting Editors) at den Atelier, Luxembourg, 09.03.2024
You may realise that the sound wasn't the best, and that's the fact I blame for not enjoying Wings of Desire's set more. So rather than watching my video, I recommend to give them a listen on Spotify.
This song, "My Heart, Your Love" is a love song between me and the rest of the world. I wrote it to express my appreciation for existing. I hope you love it as much as we do.

about the importance of being present in the moment
Adam Harpaz - Those Words You Don't Mean
ââThose Words You Don't Meanâ is a powerfully poignant anthem for those of you who are or who have been overwhelmed by the subtle space between indecision and ambition; the desire for greatness in too many of your interests can end up spreading you thin and leave you devoid of energy. This can result in you not being present and appreciative through the truly important parts/moments of your life (family, friends, connections, memories); moments you canât retrieve or recall. Familiar? Relatable? My hope is that this song reaches and inspires you at the right time in your life.â
