Legendary!Ike/Legendary!Edelgard C-A Support

C SUPPORT

[In the training yard, while having the slightest difficulty doing so due to general fatigue, Edelgard succeeds in batting away the great red lion with her shield. Picking himself up from the shattered barrels, the lion king reverts to his two-legged form.]

Caineghis: Not bad, not bad at all.

Edelgard:[rather satisfied] I suppose now you’ll think twice before underestimating heroes not from your world, King of Lions.

Caineghis: [rubs his chin] You’ve got skill, that I’ll not deny, lass. However-

Edelgard: [somewhat sour] “However” what?

Caineghis:You still lack the qualities required of a true ruler, Emperor of Adrestia.

[Caineghis departs from the training yard without another word]

Edelgard: What on earth was THAT about?

???: Oh, that’s just how King Caineghis is. He wouldn’t criticize you if he didn’t see potential.

Ike: [wiping some sweat from his face] Oh, hey there. Have we met before?

Edelgard: No, but I have certainly heard of you, Radiant Hero. You are a legend, after all. The boy from the backwoods who became a mercenary captain. Whose strength was such that he could topple kingdoms and slay gods.

Ike: Uh, thanks, I guess. But I’m just me. I’m Ike.

Edelgard: [chuckles lightly] Well, “just me,” allow me to introduce myself. I am Edelgard von Hresvelg, ruler of the Adrestian Empire.

Ike: Huh, that’s interesting. Where I come from, I’m not so used to nobles getting their own hands dirty, especially in training. The laguz are an exception, but that’s more of a cultural thing. It’s honestly kind of refreshing.

Edelgard: Well, you could say that is true of my world as well. That nobles are afraid to get their hands dirty- generally speaking, of course. However, I am not one of them. But enough small talk- Would you allow me to test that legendary strength, Radiant Hero?

Ike: [expression having somewhat perked up] It’d be my pleasure. Fair warning that I’ve no intention of going easy on you!

Edelgard: [smirks] I’d not have it any other way.

[Ike and Edelgard have reached support rank C.]

B SUPPORT

[In the training yard, Jill is finishing up her practice as Ike helps her collect her spears.]

Ike:..she’s more of an acquaintance, really. Mist, on the other hand, looks up to her a lot. She always wanted an older sister understandably and...it’s not quite the same with Titania, you know?

Jill: Of course. But still, something kind of rubs me the wrong way about her.

Ike: Hm? What do you mean?

Jill: When she thinks nobody is listening to her...she- well...let’s just say she reminds me of home.

Ike: [mildly confused] Wait a second-

Jill: [grimaces] And not in a good way either. I cringe whenever I hear that word now.

[Jill departs the training yard, shying away from contact with the other woman passing through the archway.]

Edelgard: You have some interesting friends. What exactly is her malfunction?

Ike: Oh, Jill? She’s harmless off the battlefield.

Edelgard: I wonder if she’s related to that stringy-haired swordsman who won’t stop glowering at me. But where are my manners? Greetings again, Radiant Hero.

Ike:..Don’t call me that.

Edelgard: [genuinely confused] Have I offended you somehow?

Ike: No, it’s just...I don’t really consider myself a “hero.” I’m just...well, me.

Edelgard: [clasps her chin between her thumb and index finger] But I’ve read all about your exploits in your own world in the library. I’ve seen much as to see why people in your world revere you as such. How did you not feel heroic at striking down your father’s murderer in not one, but two epic clashes?

Ike: [noticeably downcast] I’m not going to lie to you about one thing, Edelgard. After Nados Castle, I did feel accomplished and heroic. It was the first time I’d had a full night’s sleep for months. But-

Edelgard: [mildly annoyed] “But...?”

Ike: The more I learned about the world and the man in general, the more I realized...he wasn’t a monster. He was just one very lost soul in a sick world. If things had been even a little different in my past...I could have ended up just as lost as he was.

Edelgard: An enemy is an enemy. And there’s only one good kind of enemy. You would put your comrades in danger by ignoring this fact?

Ike: And I know that! In battle- in the heat of the moment- I know that. But afterwards, sometimes I get to thinking and-

[Edelgard turns her back to Ike.]

Edelgard: “If I look back, I am lost.” That’s what I’ve always told myself from the very first step on my path. Perhaps you would benefit from keeping that in mind? If your stated cause is truly as important to you as you claim.

[Edelgard leaves the training yard.]

???: (I see...So that’s what she’s like...)

???: -hic- Hehehe, so you’re jealous of Ikey-poo’s little girlfriend, huh?

???: Shut up, Shinon. You know Commander Anna is still fuming about that incident in the dining hall last week.

Shinon: Hey, like I already told her; I had nothing to do with that.

???: [seeming somehow distracted] I’m sure you didn’t.

[Ike and Edelgard have reached support rank B.]

A SUPPORT

[Edelgard and Stefan spar in the training yard, the latter taking it quite a bit more seriously, knocking Aymr with all his strength into some crates, closing in on her before Anna’s intervention.]

Anna: Hey, hey! You’ve won already! Knock it off!

[Stefan sheathes his blade.]

Stefan: [lying] My apologies, commander! It seems I still don’t know my own strength! Even after all these years!

Anna: Well, perhaps you ought to apologize to Edelgard.

Edelgard: [slightly winded] It’s no matter, commander. Such strength really is a credit to our race-

[Hand twitching irritably on his blade, Stefan decides better of it, storming from the training yard, intentionally brushing past Edelgard.]

Anna: Where is Ike anyway? He vouched for this one as a team player!

[Ike and Mist are sweeping up the training yard after the former’s wrecked quite a bit of it.]

Ike: Really, you didn’t need to help me with this, Mist. After all, i broke all these crates!

Mist: Oh, it’s nothing, Brother. Boyd is pretty messy to begin with, so it’s really nothing.

Ike: Don’t get me wrong, he’s like a brother to me and I know you think the world of each other, but I still don’t like how much of his cleaning you do.

Edelgard: Greetings. We meet again, Radiant Hero.

[Ike gives Mist a serious, knowing look and her expression becomes slightly tense.]

Mist: Oh, sorry, I have to be off! Titania will need my help getting out of her armor. She’s...sprained her back!

[Mist scurries off to the mild confusion and annoyance of Edelgard.]

Edelgard: What was THAT about anyway?

Ike: [tersely] Exactly what she said. Titania loves a good bath, after all.

Edelgard: Well, it’s no matter, really. You are the one I’m always interested to speak with, Radiant Hero.

Ike: [avoids making eye contact guiltily] Sure, what’s up?

Edelgard: You say the man who killed your father was more victim than monster, I recall that much. But what of your other foes with whom you’ve clashed? Your Duke Gaddos and this Izuka fellow. You cannot truly say you regret their being removed from your world, can you?

Ike: [grimaces] You’d have to ask Tibarn about Izuka. And the truth is, no, I don't. Lekain got what he deserved. In fact, he was lucky that Tibarn or Naesala didn’t get to him first.

Edelgard: So why fret over the loss of life among your enemy? You did not mourn either of these men, so why start now?

Ike: [somewhat animated] Because not all of our enemies were like them! You can’t really believe that they were, can you? Honestly, most of them were just defending their homes or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just like with Zelgius, if things had been only a little different-

Edelgard: One could make that argument, I suppose.

Ike: It’s exactly like I told Jill- I was the one who took her father, General Shiharam, from her. A decent man who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I told her if she wanted to hate me, or even try to avenge him, that was her right.

Edelgard: [sounding vaguely bored] A soldier follows orders. That’s all there is to it, Radiant Hero. Perhaps it worked for you in the moment, but that sort of thinking invites weakness and rot to any army or organization. There is no place for such hesitation or allowances on the battlefield, especially with so much at stake. Surely, you knew this before your hour of greatest triumph against Ashera.

Ike: It’s just like I said then- there was nothing “glorious” or “triumphant” about it. It was a desperate struggle that none of us- that our world- could afford to lose and all of us knew it.

Edelgard: I understand. But surely, sophistry from the deity and her minions did not lead you to waver in your cause, did it?

Ike: Like I said, it was a struggle for survival. There isn’t really any room for it. But even so...

Edelgard: [raises a snowy eyebrow] “But even so...” What?

Ike: We obviously couldn’t see eye-to-eye on methods, but the fact is that...she was actually kind of right about us as a species. That we’re too pigheaded and quarrelsome for our own good, beorc and laguz alike.

Edelgard: Well, we may disagree on the merits of our race and its nature, but would it not do more good to use that strength you possess to prevent such quarreling? Before it begins or after?

Ike:..I don’t think you understand, Edelgard. I’ve killed a lot of people. I mean a LOT of people. So many, that I’ve actually lost count of them all.

Edelgard: [tilts head in confusion] Well, I see we can count that in common as well, Radiant Hero. However, I’ve always provided my enemies with a choice: Live in my new world, or die in their old one. I simply honored their choices.

Ike: [slightly surprised] Hold on, YOUR “new world?”

Edelgard: [gives-an-are-you-completely-daft sort of expression] Did I say something strange?

Ike: [slightly depressed]...It’s nothing. I just...need to do some thinking, is all.

[Ike sulks out of the training yard, Hubert emerging from his concealed position in his wake.]

Edelgard: What an odd man, that Radiant Hero.

Hubert: Indeed, milady.

Edelgard: Yes, such power is wasted on someone like him.

Hubert: [bows dutifully] By your leave, Your Majesty.

[Hubert departs the training yard.]

???: Well, well, well. if it isn’t the Adrestian Emperor herself, Fodlan’s great “liberator.”

Edelgard: [reflexively clasping Aymr] Who’s there?! Show yourself!

[Soren emerges from the shadows, somehow looking even more sour than usual.]

Edelgard: Who exactly do you think you are, sulking around and eavesdropping like some kind of wraith?

Soren: It’s not important. What is important is how you’re bothering Ike with your badgering him for war stories about a difficult time he clearly does not want to talk about.

Edelgard: Why shouldn’t he want to talk about the most glorious achievements in his life? Everything he’s ever worked for?

Soren: [irritated] Is it at all possible he simply does not take joy in the deaths of his enemies? Especially when said deaths couldn’t have been avoided?

Edelgard: [snorts derisively] Well, he must be the single most pathetic mercenary of which I’ve ever heard- or warrior in general. To have that kind of power to rid your continent of its parasites and just throwing it away for some damnfool pursuit? I knew I was correct. Such power truly IS wasted on someone like him.

Soren: [furious, pokes her breastplate with his index finger] No, YOU listen! You’re right about one thing: Ike isn’t like you or I. He’s BETTER than you. He’s better than me for that matter!

Edelgard: [offended] Oh, really? How so?

Soren: [inhales, offended at even having to justify this statement] The Order of Heroes’ library allows you to read about Tellius and our history? Fair enough. It allows me to do the same about Fódlan’s history and your deeds. But Ike? He never asked for any of his responsibilities, titles, or power. He never wanted any of it. He’s honest, loyal, merciful, humble, and trustworthy- everything YOU are not.

Edelgard: [visibly uncomfortable at this dressing-down, looking for something to defuse the conversation] Ah, that brand on your forehead. It must mean your people-

Soren: Don’t give me that. Stop trying to change the subject. I don’t care about any of that crap.

Edelgard: Then what do you care about?

Soren: [gestures in Ike’s general direction, punctuating his final three words with more angry pokes] Him. I know fully well the very last thing Ike needs is my protection, but know this much, Emperor of Adrestia: I would gladly kill to protect him from people like you.

[Soren storms off, Hubert rushes back to the training yard.]

Hubert: Your Majesty, are you alright?!

Edelgard: [in disbelief] Y-yes, I’m fine, Hubert.

Hubert: [Incredulously] Was that...Linhardt?!

Edelgard: Somehow...no.

[Ike and Edelgard have reached support rank A.]
