Oh my God finally. FINALLY! IT’S FINISHED! FREEDOM, SWEET FREEDOM!
…until the next fic…
Anyway this was a fic that a lot of you were super excited for, honestly I was blown away by the anticipation, so I really hope that it lives up to that excitement. I had a lot of fun with this one.
With special thanks to @mistmarauder and @catdadeddie for introducing me to the hilarious (inadvertent) camp and homoeroticism that is the F&F series, and to @princessfbi who was in my DMs shamelessly poking me for more.
Rating: E because really how could I not
Pairing: Buck/Eddie, background Maddie/Chim, Hen/Karen, Bobby/Athena
Words: 61,899
Summary:
When Eddie Diaz is offered an undercover job by the LAPD, he takes it so the money will take care of his son. But his mission to infiltrate The 118, a group of street racers suspected of hijacking trucks and selling the goods on the black market, goes awry when he meets Evan Buckley.
The more time Eddie spends with Buck and his family, partnering with Buck to win the dangerous Race Wars, the harder it is to remember why he’s really there. As the police breathe down his neck, Eddie will have to choose exactly which side he’s on, and where his loyalties lie.

EDDIE: Chris is turning into you.
BUCK: He is not turning into me.
CHRIS: I am pretending that I don't want long-term commitment when actually it's that I have abandonment issues.
BUCK: I was wrong, he is turning into me and you should be very worried.

buck's canonical love life now consists of:
woman 15 years older than him who went to europe and forgot to dump him
woman who was nice but could not handle dating a death magnet
reporter who kept on putting her career over the health and safety of buck's loved ones
woman who only liked him because he died and came back to life

Adorable story implied by the 9-1-1 set dressing?
Over the last few weeks, I’ve spent far more time than is reasonable obsessing over the set details of Eddie’s house for this series of posts and also Buck’s apartment, because his is next on my list, and I noticed something about Christopher’s room.
From our first glimpse of Chris’s room in s2e04 onward, there is a terrarium/fish tank on Chris’s dresser. Here is its first appearance:

And here is its last appearance in s4e08:

Because the next time we see Christopher's room in s4e13 and s4e14, the terrarium is gone and has been replaced by a record player and speakers.

I was struck by that, because it's kind of a peculiar item for a boy of nine or ten years old to have in his room. But that feeling only lasted for a few moments, until I remembered who else has a record player on constant display from nearly the moment he has his own place.
Here is Buck’s record player from s3e01 and s3e03:

Obviously, the only explanation that I will accept is that whenever Christopher is at Buck’s place, they listen to records together and Christopher loves it a lot and got super into it and eventually Buck bought him his very own record player and speakers to have in his room for his birthday or Christmas (what months are between these two episodes?) or just because. And and… seriously… the specific model that Chris has…
Tumblr media
Look at this work of art. This is a Crosley Voyager Turntable that retails for around $100, bluetooth speakers and accessories not included. This specific model -- gorgeous orange velvet y’all -- seems to have been a special edition just for Urban Outfitters. Obviously there are more impressive and expensive turntables out there, but this is just so perfect for a kid, I think.
I'm losing my entire mind. If that’s not a gift that says “I love you with all my heart” I don’t know what is. Just picturing the excitement of Chris opening it and Buck trying not to burst at the seams with joy as he watches Chris opening it and Eddie’s utter fondness leaking from every pore as he watches both of them… I'm going to expire.
Also, at this point, no one will ever disabuse me of the notion that Chris’s favorite color is orange.
I’ll admit that I'm generally kind of unimpressed with the set dressing on 9-1-1. And, when I first started taking screenshots of Buck’s apartment for building a model of it, I kind of rolled my eyes at the record player’s existence, since the man has never mentioned having such a hobby one single time. But, I was willing to grant them leeway, since he has to do something with his free time at home and it’s obviously never been watching culturally relevant films (much to Chimney’s chagrin).
But now you can pry audiophile Buck and his new apprentice, Chris, from my cold dead hands.
Anyway, thank you for joining me on this little journey. If (I’m crossing my fingers so hard here, lol) anyone happens to feel inspired by this post and winds up writing a fic about it, please let me know so I can read it.
