'wrath as a measure'

or c!techno & retribution as love

there's a quote that has always stuck with me from servamp by strike tanaka because it reminds me so much of c!techno and how he approaches violence.

"wrath is a 'measure'. what is important? what is unimportant? those that rage when their friends get hurt. those that rage at unfairness."

the idea is that wrath is a measure of what moves you, what is important enough for you to fight for is an extremely c!techno thing. what do you love enough to feel that rage for?

and we have the answer, techno tells us over and over again what it is to him. when he talks about repaying the injustice down to him, the emphasis is on 'those that hurt my friends'. because for techno, that's what he finds value in, that's what he's willing to fight for. he's so full of love and care and no, violence isn't the only language, it's the only language that he's seen people listen to.

so he razes the country that hurt his friends because it's personal, yes, and part of his beliefs, yes. those things go together. you can't take the heart out of the anarchism.

so he fights when his horse is threatened despite begging the butcher army to leave, pleading with them three times over, because he loves his horse.

so he teams up with quackity despite their irreconcilable differences to take down the egg because he's seen first hand it threaten someone that he loves (ranboo) and knows that it will threaten even more people he cares for.

so he breaks into the prison to free the people he cares for, so he loses all composure when sam murders ranboo.

it's interesting to see how techno uses this sense of repaying harm that was done and retribution on behalf of his friends as a show of love. certainly not the only show, not even the way of showing it that he uses the most often but it's the one that's extremely telling in techno's case.

wrath is a measure and you can use it to measure the love and care that techno has for those around him, to measure how deeply he holds to his beliefs.
