10 years ago on mother’s day some college kids accidentally hit hajikuji mayoi in their car as she walked to her mom’s house . In a panic they decided to resurrect her using forbidden magic that they didn’t really think was real but were desperate enough to try. It actually worked, the child was brought back, but her hair and eye color had changed irreparably, and she was now an empty shell with no personality. One member of the group (Teori Tadatsuru) was so irreparably changed by the incident that he took his own life. most of them dropped out of school and none of them were able to lead functional adult lives. In a karmic sort of incident, the only member of the group to have a child later died in a car accident, leaving her only daughter an orphan. If asked about the incident, all of them will lie, claiming Yotsugi Ononoki to be resurrected from a 100 year old corpse, not a 10 year old(’s) corpse. The lesson here is never to trust the narrator to know the whole story.
