re:photo credits
I want to thank you too! if you ever notice my sideblog terranautica reblogging you, sometimes I add as much additional context as I can find relatively quick with google lens, don't take it personally:) it's just good to double check.
for example i recently saw a post captioned "abandoned city of Keelung, Taiwan", with an overgrown abandoned building. very cool aesthetic picture, but misleading. keelung is a city that is very alive, and the overgrown building seemed to be an abandoned construction project that has since been demolished over 10 years ago. to make matters worse, when I was investigating the picture (again w Google lens) the picture popped up in some places tagged as Chernobyl.
i know I'm preaching to the choir, but this is a big problem and very shitty of westerners to circulate aesthetic images of "exotic" things without bothering to verify anything about it or where it comes from. that picture bothered me because the caption and image evoke a mythical, far away place, mysteriously abandoned long ago by forgotten people, when really it was a picture taken 10-15 years ago in a corner of a huge city that was heavily populated both when the picture was taken AND today.
so thank you and keep it up, I love the blog :) ❤️
Hi,
Don't worry you can add anythign you want to my post (as long as it's not disrespectful of course) ! :) Yeah I agree with you, sometimes the aesthetic blogs can get pretty weird about a lot of places. To pass of some nice, living cities as abandonned is weird. Just like the whole "chernobyl" aesthetic is strange to me too, like yeah boo scary abandonned places and all but it's was super recent, it's very much still living history for many people. But well, sometimes it also comes to people not caring/not being busy to read. I had on another platform a similar blog but about places. Once I posted some picture of a skating ring in a smaller town of North Korea. I guess the picture was pretty nice yes, colorful buildings and nature, but I very much put in the caption "[Place], North Korea". Yet several usual aesthetic travel summer vacation type started adding it to their collection as "travel goal". Which made me laugh and realize, yeah some people don't read sources. Good luck for their Pyongyang winter trip. Thanks a lot for your comment ! :)
