I haven't been on so long it's a surprise people still like and re-blog my stuff, even my old, old stuff. Thanks guys. :)
Not sure if I will finish my riffing of My Starry Love. Who knows what 2024 will bring.

I'm making a list of Republic of China (early 1900s) dramas. It will include long and mini dramas. it will also include dramas that have not been translated (to my knowledge).
Here is a very small sample of my favorites:
My number 1: Cruel Romance
Gosh darn, I love this drama.
She's an innocent country girl who travels to Shanghai for the vengeance of her family. She runs into him, a dangerous man, who immediately falls for her and protects her in the dangerous world of gangs, drugs, and rich eat the poor. It is translated.
My number 2: 新婚夜,我被少帅哄一整晚 "On the Wedding Night, I was Coaxed by the Marshal All Night."
It's got a clever girl, a smitten Marshal, and an interesting plot. She time travels back to the Republic era and pretends to be a stupid woman married to a handsome marshal. She ends up falling for him and stops pretending to be a genius doctor. Warning: Not officially translated!
I love the sweetness of dangerous men (mostly in uniform) protecting and doting on their wives. It's kinda my thing now.

My obsession of mini-dramas has grown. I've watched nothing else for weeks, oh and My Everlasting Bride. I also like Republic of China dramas too. It's really good.

He asked permission?!
*long hard gasp*
It was barely audible, but he asked!
I'm so used to the man-handling, the sweeping up into his arms, the forced kissing and the pinning against the walls that when HE. ASKED. PERMISSION?!...
*hand to chest in shock*
Sir! You do...have permission.
Now if you excuse me, I need to breathe into a paper bag because I might be hyperventilating.
And yeah, that was hot.

"King the Land" has the good leads AND the tropes AND the chemistry AND the good writing AND the good soundtrack AND the wink-wink, nod-nod to other good shows AND...
You know what? It'd be faster to tell what things this show doesn't have.
But this show!
I needed this. I really needed something sweet to hurt my teeth. This is just the kdrama candy for me.

King the Land was not the drama I wanted, but it was the drama I needed. It has strong traces of A Business Proposal, one of the funniest kdrama rom-coms I've ever seen, and What's Wrong with Secretary Kimg, another funny office drama.
It has ALL THE TROPES. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.
Male lead with trauma related to his mother and a narcissistic personality? Check
Female lead determined to survive at work, achieve her goals and have a happy life? Check
Evil family member determined to bring down the male lead through any means necessary including psychological torture? Check
Goofy best friend/ secretary? Check
Male lead falls first, falls hard, falls forever for the female lead? Check, check and check
I've binged the first 5 episodes. I would watch more but that's all that's on Netflix right now.

"Destined" is SOOOO good! Song Yi and Bai Jingting's chemistry is off the charts and they've had only a little screen time together. The story is going in places I don't expect. The obsession is real!

Rocky Going Thru the 5 Stages of Grief
Yang Lan has had enough of Rocky's crap. After spending 100 years together, she leaves. And Rocky is knocked on his ass.
Denial (shock)
2. Anger
3. Compromise
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
The rock demon goes through a lot in one episode.

It took Yang Lan leaving to throw Rocky off his ass...
and then.
lose.
his.
shit.
There's a devilish side of me that is enjoying that gut punch to the heart Yang Lan gave him as she walked away.
