@stanuary 2024 week one: Lost

Boy howdy! Another year, another butt load of angst for me to draw!

I have had "In this Shirt" by The Irrepressibles for a healthy amount this week, especially considering that I have been in a very emotional mood bc the place I used to work with closed

So I got very emotional and considering how good this song is, I had to draw the most intense moment in the show with the most intense moment in the song, making a short lyric comic.

"Hm.. n-no just... I.." ... "--!!" Stanford's eyes suddenly shot open as he realized he had fallen asleep. The old man wasn't getting proper rest lately, as there was just too much to do. Sleep was typically an afterthought.

"Oh, um, I apologize. How long was I asleep?"

I stand by my decision-- I believe Dipper would be my ideal apprentice. However, IF given the chance, I would have both Dipper AND Mabel succeed me in my research.

i have a creature to show you

Stanford studied the small creature, and even took a quick photo of it.

"Fascinating!-- what an interesting little creature. What is it called?"

Landlord-- well, it was technically right. "Yes, this is my house," he nodded in agreement. Ford grabbed for a mug of coffee he'd left on a nearby table and took a sip as he listened to the Incubator's explanation of what exactly he does/is.

Another world he had yet to visit, and it was populated by little fluffy scientists? That was certainly an intriguing, amusing thought. Ford wondered for a moment if he could ever find that world and explore it.

There was one thing that put him on edge, though...

"Do business? What exactly do you mean? What sort of business do you do with humans?" It was likely visible how Ford's demeanor changed, albeit it being many small body language changes at most such as his grip on the coffee mug tightening and his brows furrowing some.

His tail swayed as he enjoyed the salmon. Eventually, Kyubey lifted his head up as the incubator noticed he was not alone. He lifted up his paw to lick at it. Then looked at Ford. Curious about him.

"Kyu?"

Kyubey hadn't seen this person at the shack since coming here. So he wondered if this was a visitor. Come to think of it... Ford seemed to resemble the other adult that stayed here. He could be a family member.

The term 'flesh and bone mortal' being used to describe a human being would have put most regular humans on edge, but Stanford's life experience with nonhuman beings that spoke in such a way was definitely not the norm. He brushed off the term with ease as his own eyes studied the... owl? Yes-- the owl before him.

"Parties? Well, it's been ages since I took part in that sort of thing. The old knees don't hold up like they used to, heh-- but back in the day, a good friend of mine and I were known to throw quite the rager." Ford reminisced about his years with his friend Rick, traveling the multiverse and literally becoming wanted in several dimensions.

"Do you enjoy parties? Also, where exactly are we anyway?" Ford had been following the energy readings on a multi-dimensional trip for his latest scientific agenda, and something had led him here... but what?

Since the scientist had really been talking to himself regarding his question, the fact that Kyubey responded got a small flinch and an arch of the brow in response. Had he not been who he was, he probably would have reacted in a sense of shock borderlining fear at this creature being able to speak like a human. However, this WAS Gravity Falls. Nothing was off limits here.

"Incubator... hm-- that is interesting. I've never heard that term," Ford started and slowly retracted his hand. Ford knelt down a little so he'd be closer to eye level with Kyubey. He couldn't help the slight chuckle that escaped him at the question.

"Heh... actually, this is my house. I am typically down in the-- er, downstairs.. but I have been here this entire time I assure you." Stanford studied the Incubator for another moment before he spoke again. "However, I have studied this town for some time. I've never met another such as yourself-- where exactly are you from... oh, well, and I suppose what should I call you?"
