A series of fashion illustrations inspired by nature and sculptural fashion. looking at nature ‘blooming’ from the body. i chose a blazer as the base garment for this design as it is considered a conventional item of clothing, creating a contrast between this and the unconventionality of nature. it looks as though nature is reclaiming the garment.
Also experimenting with different shapes and colours of both the garment and the flowers/leaves
i am incredibly inspired by the sculptural fashion of Iris Van Herpen
Van Herpen combines innovation and craftsmanship to create garments inspired by the elements and natural world around us
the incredible silhouettes of her designs inspired me to create outfit silhouettes inspired by nature (top left) i really loved how this mini series turned out.
fabric petals experiments. for my project i am looking at creating sculptural fashion inspired by nature. in order to keep the petals i inserted garden wire into the hem of the petals. love how they turned out. going to experiment with different shapes and textures in the next few days :)
Epstein's Rock Drill reveals the emptiness of vorticism (a short-lived radical art movement in Britain that celebrated urbanity and the age of the machine). It presents a nightmare image of the future as remorseless, unending war. It is more moving than the original, because it is a wounded machine, a human machine. Epstein used bronze to create this sculpture which has a high tensile strength and can be reproduced very easily but all of the casts would all be the exact same. This could be suggesting that armies and machines are all the exact same and lack individuality. Furthermore bronze is was discovered an extremely long time ago (bronze age was 5000BC-1200BC), some of the worlds earliest weapons were made of bronze. This could be symbolic of how the discovery of bronze and weaponry was the beginning of man and machines association together which ultimately led to wars and the demise of humanity.
