actually, sure. this can be its own post
it’s probably been talked about before, but you guys have got to stop assuming that “men’s problems” and “women’s problems” are always the inverse of each other. “boys are dissuaded from having emotionally deep relationships” does not mean “girls are allowed to have any emotions they like”. western society as a whole is shit at coping with the concept of emotions, and that has different consequences for different people depending on their circumstances and identities
you have to ask yourself:
is the problem being discussed exclusive to one gendered experience?
does the discussion of the problem include how it’s different for POC, queer people, disabled people, etc etc?
is the problem better represented/explained by cultural factors other than gender?
what evidence are they using? is that evidence inclusive, or is it solely based on abled white dyadic cishet (etc) people?
gender-based issues do exist. but it’s a lot more complicated than women’s issues vs men’s issues, and you can never universally state that the way men are treated is the exact opposite of women and vice versa

I think I would've approached this entire "social media" thing differently if I knew what I know today and simply got teleported back into my younger self.

The old local coffee shop that sucked went out of business a couple years ago. It sucked and I loved it. Their food was garbage and I was passionately loyal to it. It was open at infuriating hours and the decor was atrocious and the music was awful and I would have killed for that place. It had local art on the walls and every time I went there I would have sleep-deprived rambling conversations with middle aged women self-medicating their ADHD and we’d laugh at the tacky local art on the walls. Heaven on Earth!
The new place that moved in down the street isn’t a Starbucks but it’s utterly soulless. Chic and uptight, with tidy little wood pulp signs propped everywhere purchased from some online store probably called something like Cafes-R-Us. There are live plants in the East and South windows but they are switched out every few weeks as they wilt and die. They sell croissants and scones but they don’t make awful greasy plates of breakfast burritos that sweat oil all over my hands. Their staff is young and always beautiful and no amount of doctoring with cream and sugar can make their drip brews taste like anything but sour acid. Middle aged women come in here at 11 AM and talk to each other about their cousins who don’t wear makeup. No one has ever spontaneously disclosed their diagnoses to me. This place sucks and I hate it.

Donna Lee Parsons isn’t particularly well-known in hardcore/punk circles, but she should be. She played a pivotal role in rock history. Before she transitioned, she founded Rat Cage Records, a record label that released the Beastie Boys’ first two EPs; she signed them at their very first show. Twenty years later, after Parsons came out as trans and the band’s meteoric rise to fame, the artists quietly paid for Parson’s gender affirmation surgery. According to member Adam Horovitz, since the men knew she wouldn’t accept the money if she saw it as a charitable act, they claimed they owed her royalties from their EP Polly Wog Stew.
[...]
So if you’ve ever worn a ‘lightning bolt’ t-shirt or listened to Victim in Pain or found yourself fondly recalling a Beastie Boys show you went to, you have a transgender woman to thank for that. And we should know her story. If you call yourself a hardcore kid, Donna Lee Parsons touched your life.

let me tell you driving from Ohio to Washington in a SmartCar with everything I owned was funny enough on its own but once I got west of the Rockies, every. single. time. I stopped ar a gas station, random dads would just spawn beside my car. like there was some sort of dad portal following me. and they’d see my ohio plates and go, “did you DRIVE through the mountains in that?” and every. single. time. I’d go, “well, they didn’t airlift me!”
it killed. it absolutely cleared ever time. never failed to make the dads laugh. they were obsessed. i said it the same every time. it was like I was in a groundhog day timeloop on interstate 70 westbound gas stations. and i you know what? I was happy.

One more joke hate: You may claim to be a woman but biologically you are a featherless biped and thus a man.
Finally a good argument for why I'm actually a man

i think as a writer, the older you get and the more you read, the more you realize there are very few actual truly bad ideas. which is a relief. but! the other thing you learn is that stories live and die on the execution and ha ha. lemme tell you. unfortunately. there are lots and lots of bad ways to execute an otherwise fine idea
