oh also i find it really really interesting that they dont mention their patreon at all in the vid. i get that they wanted to explain why youtube is no longer a viable platform with them so they focused on youtube ads and sponsorships but their patreon is still a form of income for them and not talking about it at all is kinda strange. totally talking out of my ass here but to me that suggests that the patreon was not as successful as they might have hoped, or else i feel like they would have talked about how their success on patreon made them realize there was a significant portion of their audience willing to pay for their vids. but to me that just makes it even worse bc if you cant even get people to pay for your patreon how do you expect to get them to pay for your brand new streaming service
listen i get that being beholden to youtube sponsors and ad revenue is extremely difficult, unreliable, and probably soul crushing, and i really dont blame them for wanting to take things into their own hands howeverrrrr i think its obvious to anyone with a brain that watcher have been making some really questionable financial decisions. i knew ghost files was expensive but ryan saying a season can cost upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars is insane, esp when so many of the costs he mentioned seem like they could be mitigated. (they outsource post production????? when they have 25+ employees????? genuinely, why do they need 25 employees?? what could those people possible be doing??) theyve been open abt the fact that even with sponsors, patreon, ads, and merch sales they havent been making nearly enough money to keep the company afloat but they just keep expanding anyways. why do they have a beautiful huge office in the middle of LA and 25 employees and a score of high production shows with interns that they cancel after a season bc they dont immediately go viral?
the "leaving youtube" vid itself is a perfect example of why theyre struggling. this video needed to be a five minute brief explanation of what exactly theyre doing, why theyre doing it, and what they hope to do in the future. instead its a 15 min long vid that opens with establishing shots of someone walking into the watcher office and the hollywood sign, followed by 5 minutes of sad piano music playing behind shane ryan and steven talking abt how much youtube means to them. they dont actually get to the point until around 6 mins in. this vid drives me crazy bc all they needed was shane ryan and steven on a couch talking to a tripod about their new streaming service and instead its a pseudo documentary with 15 people credited in the description. this vid itself was probably way more expensive to make than it needed to be!
the underlying problem is that instead of finding creative ways to do what they want with the budget they have (saw 2004 says hi), they instead want to find ways to increase the budget so they can do everything they want. which i truly sympathize with, it must be hard to invest so much in your dream and then have it not completely work out and depending on youtube ad revenue/sponsors must be awful. but lbr a lot of the problems are self inflicted and the choice to put the burden on the audience to pay $6/month to let them do everything they want instead of finding ways to reduce their bloated operating costs has obviously already pissed a lot of people off.

Ok. I have a lot to say about this. I think it's been abundantly clear they have been struggling to keep the company afloat, but I also think its a double edged sword bv they bit off more than they could chew in the first place. I've had this opinion for a while but it really cemented since the beginning of Ghost Files. I enjoyed what Watcher was at the beginning, I think they put in good work with Puppet History and it still continues to be their standout show and had a fair amount of "low-budget" shows that filled out the edges like are you scared, too many spirits, top 5 beat down, even their dnd campaign. But as soon as Ghost Files started I began to notice a trend of... idk... bleeding money? Ghost Files was so high budget that I was bored. I get that Ryan wanted to breathe new life into a ghost hunting series but what made bfu so good wasn't the ghost evidence... it was his and Shane's friendship. That's why I liked all their small shows near the start of Watcher--it felt like friends. I think they just continued to go bigger and bigger with more things and more random interns and more shows that it just got to be too much which... led us here. I hate to say I haven't watched their videos in forever, and that ghost files bored me so bad I couldn't even finish some episodes... but thats what happened. I get them moving exclusively to patreon. We all need money. But I wish instead of that, they just focused their energy into their CLEARLY popular series. Puppet History was beyond good--their only series that I didn't mind random guests every episode, in fact it was made better by the random guests--mystery files had potential but came at a bad time, ghost files should've been way lower budgeted and focused on modern house calls TBH! I'm sick of old prisons!!!! And get rid of the fan evidence! Stupid! Also IDGAF about fancy gadgets! All you need is three things and let your humor carry the rest of it. Beyond the "big" series they could have their low budget ones like are you scared, too many spirits, top 5 beat down (the show that I hate random guests for), playing videos games idk man, and like one more or something who knows. But with what they dove headfirst into it doesnt shock me they fell into this hole.... I just wished they realized no one cares about the highest of high budget video series... they care about the dynamic between ryan and shane. Im sick of random ass people in their videos wheres steven lim do a video with steven lim why is he banished to do you taxes. wtf put him in top 5 beat down instead of these random ass random people. the drew gooden one was good though I dont mind actual famous funny people being guests.
anyway those are my thoughts. TLDR they bit off more than they could chew, loss sight of what made them so enthralling, and now are washed up youtubers... saddening

Dozens of Google employees began occupying company offices in New York City and Sunnyvale, California, on Tuesday in protest of the company’s $1.2 billion contract providing cloud computing services to the Israeli government. The sit-in, organized by the activist group No Tech for Apartheid, is happening at Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s office in Sunnyvale and the 10th floor commons of Google’s New York office. The sit-in will be accompanied by outdoor protests at Google offices in New York, Sunnyvale, San Francisco, and Seattle beginning at 2 pm ET and 11 am PT. Tuesday’s actions mark an escalation in a series of recent protests organized by tech workers who oppose their employer’s relationship with the Israeli government, especially in light of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza. Just over a dozen people gathered outside Google’s offices in New York and Sunnyvale on Tuesday. Among those in New York was Google cloud software engineer Eddie Hatfield, who was fired days after disrupting Google Israel’s managing director at March’s Mind The Tech, a company-sponsored conference focused on the Israeli tech industry, in early March. Several hours into the sit-ins on Tuesday, Google security began to accuse the workers of “trespassing” and disrupting work, prompting several people to leave while others vowed to remain until they were forced out. The 2021 contract, known as Project Nimbus, involves Google and Amazon jointly providing cloud computing infrastructure and services across branches of the Israeli government. Last week, Time reported that Google’s work on Project Nimbus involves providing direct services to the Israel Defense Forces. No Tech for Apartheid is a coalition of tech workers and organizers with MPower Change and Jewish Voice for Peace, which are respectively Muslim- and Jewish-led peace-focused activist organizations. The coalition came together shortly after Project Nimbus was signed and its details became public in 2021.

saw traps II and up: preform brain surgery on yourself then eat your own arm then watch your wife be brutally murdered then melt all your skin off with this acid then kill 7 innocent bystanders. you have 45 seconds. now you'll think twice about taking antidepressants.
