Confession: Sometimes I wonder if Ritsu really means all the things he says about himself. Because I hope not. Yes, his attitude and sudden mood changes are somewhat funny and at first you don’t think about the things he says that much, and eventually laugh it off. But he always apologizes and says he is useless and worthless, things like that. But I wonder if he really has this low view on himself, because that would be quite unhealthy and not funny at all. To this point I can’t tell if he really means what he says or is just exaggerate things, since he has this low self-esteem and always saw his apologizing parents. I think this is really interesting but also sad, I just want him to know that he his valuable and kind doesn’t need to apologize all the time.

Theory: Akito is 20

According to Akito’s wiki page, she’s a Cancer born in the year of the horse. That doesn’t tell us a lot besides the fact that her birthday is between June 21 and July 22. However, Shigure, Ayame and Hatori are all born the same year; the year of the Rat. So, if we look at the Chinese Zodiac wheel, the year of the Horse and the year of the Rat are six years apart. And we already know that Akito is younger than the Mitsubishi trio, and we know they’re all 26 at the beginning of the series.

So it’s safe to assume that when we first meet Akito, she’s 20. We could technically delve into it deeper and be able to figure out everyone’s exact birth year based off of when the manga came out, but I’m too lazy to do that personally. I’m just satisfied with this information by itself.

Confession: I think if you look at some of the cursed Sohmas, you can easily tell with which animal they are or more particular in which animal they will turn into. In my opinion you can easily see the cat in Kyo, the rabbit in Momiji, the cow in Hatsuharu and the snake in Ayame, for example. But when I look at Hatori I don’t see the seahorse, I see the dragon.

I think this is really amazing and yet again proves the great and well-thought-out character design of Fruits Basket.

Confession: It kinda makes me angry when people blame Shigure, Ayame and Hatori for some of the younger Sohmas issues because “They are adults”. I’m in their age and I absolutely don’t feel mature enough to be responsible for a child’s well-being. Besides, when most of the things happened, for example Yuki being locked up by Akito, they were also still children/teenagers.

Confession: I like how Kakeru shows that the past is important when it comes to the relationship between characters. Many people say that Kyo and Yuki should just be friends because their personalities match and they also have similar reactions to things and that is true, but a lot of stuff happened between them. When Kakeru is introduced, Yuki notices the resemblance to both Kyo and Ayame and even though he isn’t immediately fond of him because of that they later become best friends simply because they don’t share a past together. Yes, technically Yuki and Kyo could be good friends, we see that with how he opens up to Kakeru. But a lot of stuff happened between him and Kyo which is hard to ignore, even though they would match personality wise.
