Oh yeah I forgot I posted this. Well, I built it!!

The outside panels open up so you can see the inside!

The cockpit and dining area both have swivel chairs that a minifig can sit on, and Kaylee has a little hammock in her engine room (I added the minifig and the “terrifying space monkey”)

And the dining area and engine room both lift out to reveal the cargo hold and the med bay!

You can see the little platforms in the cargo hold as well as the weightlifting bench that Jayne and Book use. And the med bay has a little chair, lights, and beakers in it! It’s hard to see in the pictures sorry 😞

The side walls of the cargo hold also open so you can see from the side! This is a picture from under the neck of the ship with all the walls open 😊

Anyhow, it was a very fun and challenging build! I’m really glad I did it.

Hey Browncoats! Has anyone built this Lego Serenity before? I was recently bitten by the Lego bug and this looks AMAZING but I would love to hear some reviews on how easy the instructions are to follow! Please sound off if you have done this kit?

Mal’s reaction to Saffron when she snaps at Wash about the cider and he realises that the situation might be worse than he knows… amazing

because he flees, he tries to be nice about it and makes excuses so she won’t feel bad, but inwardly he’s panicking, he needs to get out of here, so he’s like “I have captain-y things to do, I’m gonna go captain”

and by captain-y things he apparently means running straight to Inara’s shuttle

like that’s his instinct, he’s so far out of his depth and he doesn’t know what’s happening but it probably involves feelings in some capacity and how tf is he supposed to handle that

Mal, out loud: “I’m gonna go… captain”

Mal, inwardly: “INARA HELP”

Mal Reynolds “Firefly”

Well crap. It’s late and I’m thinking about a post I saw last week about firefly (super underrated show, check it out!) about how in one of the episodes Kaylee gets the opportunity to feel more stereotypically feminine than she usually does. (she’s a mechanic) Some women who were obviously higher in status than her poke fun at the fact that her dress is “from a store window, not a tailor”, and an older gentleman swoops in and “saves” her from the situation by basically slut-shaming the head of these women.

It really sucks that I can’t find the post, because when I first watched the episode I was kind of like “Yeah! That women was being nasty and classist!” but it still felt off. Later on, Kaylee gets the opportunity to demonstrate her knowledge of spaceship mechanics to a larger group of men, and it’s deeply expressed that she knows more about the subject than she is given credit for. This sort of thing happens quite a bit in the show. With Kaylee demonstrating her skill, and people around her (usually men) are surprised.

That post pointed out examples of how the show continued to do this sort of attempt at giving female characters liberating experiences, but in ways that weren’t always the best... (like tearing down other women in the process)

Now, please keep in mind that I LOVE this show. It definitely has complex and diverse female leads (ie. Zoë, Inara, Kaylee) even if it does have flaws, it was made in 2002. It’s important to be critical of media that you enjoy, and the reason that the post I’m referring to is stuck in my head is because it really pointed out to me that nothing is %100 perfect. I’m still learning, this post helped me a lot with putting an intersectional and objective lens on the things I enjoy.
