Meet Don Vallus!
He's a new design and new take on my old beloved vampire for a very fluffy and utterly fun self indulgent story. Aka: I wanted an excuse to make him and his tiny wife fall in love again because I'm a hopeless sap. This has always been true.
As a dragon Don Vallus breaks the traditional mold a bit by being very open to dealing with mortals, as long as they are flattering or afraid of him enough, and wildly wealthy enough to top off his hoard. His main line of business these days is keeping nobles and princesses. In the past this was generally as collateral. A kingdom might need a magic sword of his so he would loan it out and expect it back with interest. The looming threat of eating the king's daughter worked really well for encouraging timely exchanges. However, as time passed, his threat became more of a service itself, with high class nobles and the like renting his illustrious manor's tower rooms to keep their daughters in so they would 'stay pure' before their largely arranged marriages. (The nobles who do this all pretty much suck.) It's a silly play on the whole princess in a tower guarded by a dragon bit. It's just that now he can write them off on his taxes. Which he definitely doesn't pay.
Of course one day he accepts a contract of a particularly stubborn and rebellious daughter who keeps screwing up her family's reputation and over the course of many escape attempts, sword fights, constant threats of immolation, and cutting banter, the two take a narrative lap of enemies to rivals to friends to lovers. (There's that hopeless sap bit I mentioned earlier.)
The specifics of his design are still fluxing around a bit, but I like that with dragon's anyway. They just look like they feel at any given time. It's all magic anyway.

I finished reading the manga of Dungeon Meshi a few weeks ago and wanted to make a little art in remembrance! I think my own troupe of intrepid dungeon explorers would have appreciated it too!

Another artfight reference actually done before artfight!
This year I'm introducing several more of my characters, some new and some old! Jessica is a definite older one!
Jessica is a very important character in Mark's story, and is there for him at his lowest as well as being absolutely instrumental to the hunter's guild. (That place DOES NOT run without her.) While she may look a bit severe at times, she's only really cutthroat when it comes to sharp business dealings. She holds herself very professionally and doesn't accept nonsense from the more rambunctious guild members, but most know her as being extremely warm and caring, often staying late hours, and incidentally keeping a kettle on whenever night-teams of hunters are set to return. She has the highest respect of everyone at the guild-- higher even than Mark as the guildmaster in many cases because of her more frequent communications with all the teams, and if anyone even thinks about being improper towards her there would be a small army worth of hunters overnight who would stop it in it's tracks
Many guild members are extremely badly off when they first join- street urchins, orphans, criminals, and otherwise disenfranchised people who have been abandoned in one way or another and struggling to find any kind of foothold in the city. Jessica is often the first friendly face they see, with a welcome packet and a warm drink.

And lastly for now, a little Iggy and Cricket~ <3
These two had a pretty slow romantic arc, but finally got to be honest with their feelings just before the end game ramped up! Hopefully our heroes all succeed and the two of them will have a much deserved rest and all the happily ever after stuff.
She is SO SMALL compared to him like this and I find it hilarious. Iggy is probably extremely careful around her at first, and meanwhile she took no time at all to start using him as a personal jungle gym.

This is my favorite Don Ignatius art so far!
He gave the ring of possesion up pretty soon after getting his new body, as a sign of trust and regrown faith in his old friends, but I still like putting it on him from time to time for old times sake.

Iggy ends up very comfortable as a dragon. It take some getting used to for sure, and he definitely has a bit of an existential crisis about his new life-span. But luckily for him, some of his old friends have had drastic life-span increases as well, so as fate would have it he can give them a hard time for a long long while yet.

Iggy gets a shave an a haircut because that's what you do after a redemption arc. He sometimes also forgets certain new features between transformations-- usually the horns and pointy teeth. Sometimes his tail if he's ESPECIALLY distracted, but he hates it when that happens. Cricket always assumes it's on purpose!

Iggy and Allistaire have a pretty tense relationship. Iggy arrested and led to the hanging of Allistaire's first crew. Allistaire fell in love and ran off with Iggy's fiancé. They both have wanted to kill each other for years, and begrudgingly had to put it aside to stop the world from ending-- but even the eminent end of the world can't stop them from arguing all the time.

There are probably at least ten similar poses I did of Ignatius taking dragon naps stowed away in different mega-files and on my phone notes. These were comforting to draw and I'd often do them as cool-downs or when I couldn't sleep. (At least one of us could!)

Loootttss of sketches like these as I started to figure out his design. A few I posted ages ago somewhat sneakily, but I still left the majority out so my players wouldn't get suspicious.
I decided I really liked the tusks early on! It gave him somewhere prominent to wear the ring, and overall fit his bulky shapes.

Time for some DRAGONS-!!!
I had hoped for some years as our campaign carried on that my dream of Ignatius being saved and becoming a dragon could come true! In the end things came down to the wire, and he very nearly was killed before he had the chance- but that only made his redemption all the sweeter!
This is a VERY early very rough concept for him, inspired largely by a dream I had about a dragon and a magician in a battle of wits. His design changed a lot, but it was a good starting place!

This year I'm getting ahead of artfight and starting my new references early! First up is a proper key pose for Helena!
Princess Helena is demure, graceful, and in all ways a very proper and predictable princess. She loves her status and all things pink, pretty, and fancy. Her royalty can make her a bit naive at times, protected as she is, but she is a very good listener and can read people often better than one might expect. She also has a penchant for getting her way that might undermine a bit of the perfect-princess facade if you get to know her well enough.
