Here it is, a glimpse of the Mediterranean-inspired endpaper I had the pleasure of painting for Bragelonne's edition of Dark Shores by Danielle L. Jensen.
Rather than painting the sort of scenery I see in the south of Italy, I let my memories of Rovinj in Croatia inspire me. There’s a spot where you can look at the sea from between the columns, and if the water is particularly cold, you can see the sea tinged in marine hues. If you happen to visit Croatia, I really recommend stopping by this town and explore the Istrian area. The plant framing the illustration is oleander, which is typical of the Mediterranean flora, and it even lines the highway for kilometres.

To my general shock it seems I have not actually uploaded this piece to Tumblr before. Way back in 2021 things were...very dark and bad. I lost three family members and a companion their equal in about a year. Three of them in about four months. There was and still is a lot of baggage tangled up in there. I was painting my character Ama Tala (The mother of all wolves) thinking somber thoughts on the winter solstice. My grandmother died that night. It gives me a lot to think about every year. Last embers. Long cold nights. Sparks. New beginnings. Growing days. Happy Winter Solstice.

To wish upon a star would be to indulge in an illusion. Hermione was all too familiar with illusions and whispered fantasies, and so was Harry. “We could run away,” Harry started. His husky voice sent shivers down her arms, her flesh prickling in its wake. She gave a soft laugh. “Isn’t that what we’re doing now?” He was serious. It was one of those nights, after all. A tent-inspired AU oneshot.

"To the north, different mountains surrounded the city across the river—a range of sharp peaks like fish’s teeth cleaved the city’s merry hills from the sea beyond. But these mountains behind me… They were sleeping giants. Somehow alive, awake."
Velaris, the City of Starlight, from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, was the location for the June Wanderlust Window collectible included in The Bookish Box's YA box ✨
Which Court would you call home? I kept thinking, 'I want to live there,' while painting this landscape. Only last night, the sky finally cleared where I live, and it was so beautiful. I saw a real starry night for the first time after months of pollution and bad weather.

“Atop the hill, Celaena stared at the crowning achievement of Adarlan. The glass castle of Rifthold. It was gargantuan, a vertical city of shimmering, crystalline towers and bridges, chambers and turrets, domed ballrooms and long, endless hallways. It had been built above the original stone castle, and cost a kingdom’s wealth to construct.”
This is one of 12 landscapes I illustrated for the Wanderlust Window collectibles included in The Bookish Box monthly YA boxes this year! It's the Glass Palace from 'Throne of Glass' by Sarah J. Maas... a place that's pretty on the outside, but not one I would call home, if you know what I mean! But I still find this castle fascinating and I had so much fun painting it!

"The roar of the wind was deafening, the strength of it buffeting them from side to side, the sand scouring over her exposed flesh, her eyes pure agony as she gripped Aren’s hand, dragging him forward step by step. You can do this, she silently screamed at herself. You will survive this."
Endpaper illustration for Bragelonne's edition of The Traitor Queen by Danielle L. Jensen. I had a lot of fun painting this scene and rendering the sand and swirling clouds (:
