My apologies, this is the second time I've tried to explain myself clearly, only to still fumble it. Let me put this another way: fandom culture was created in a mainstream society that demanded you not sympathize with the "losers" of the world. So, since fans didn't follow that ideal, they "knew better than others around them", and their arrogance shielded them from toxic ideals. But now that trait has become "maladaptive", as now fans themselves are toxic, yet still believe they know best.

Regarding fandom worship of Ascended Astarion, it could be a "side effect" of how fandom was formed. Fandom was formed in response to a mainstream culture that, at the time (fandom began with Star Trek in the 60s), was authoritarian and cruel. So, fandoms had an attitude of "we always know better than everyone else" because at the time, that was a useful trait. Unfortunately, even though fandom itself is mainstream now, that "we know best" attitude never went away, hence modern fandom arrogance.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say.

Everyone thinks they know better than others. Otherwise, they'd change their mind.

I was always the type who knew ascension was bad for Gale. When he tried to plead his case for it in the book shop I was just there like "Gale, I know you're smarter than this mate. Listen to yourself."

One's a harmless prank, the other is altering someone's body at a fundamental level. Bit different.

Don't mistake me, I think God Gale is an arsehole and his story is SO much better if he overcomes his hubris and ego.

I just see many people act like Acended Astarion isn't an objectively evil monster but hate Gale for much lesser crimes. It's the lack of consistency that bugs me.

I don't have a problem with people acknowledging Chloe been abused.

I have a problem when people use said abuse as a "Get of criticizing her and calling out her flaws" card. Especially when these same people would go to victim blaming and demonizing characters with similar backstories.

Guys, why are we not talking about Plagg’s character growth more?

Compare his goodbye to Zoe in season 5 to literally any interaction with Adrien in season 1. He’s so SUPPORTIVE?? And SWEET??? He’s encouraging and of course sarcastic, but he just sincerely means so well. Plagg is a literal god and has existed for eternity and yet the character growth that he’s exhibited over the course of this one single year is so immense. And it’s so important that it happens with Adrien, because boy does Adrien need it.

Good for Plagg, you know? A+ for Plagg.
