can I say something mean. gansey's second resurrection ending up turning him into a strange variant of a visionary + halting his aging process by making him Part of the ley. when all his friends die by one he's holding their hands looking as young as he ever has and at the end of it all what else is there to do but trudge into the forest and do its work at its behest and doom yourself to eternal solitude

I mentioned this in my original tags (also in the notes) but once again thinking about Henry and Gansey in context of styling them. <- saw a discussion on Ralph Lauren. I think despite saying gansey dresses badly (subjectively true) HIS style would need to be the most curated and consistent both color story wise and cost wise. not one logo of course but people in his bracket (aglionby, Henry, family) pointing out perceived Flaws in his clothing that adam/blue/Ronan/audience can't see would add to his whole [waves hand] thing. the blandest sweater ever and u go look it up and it's fucking vintage [insert brand] that gansey is wearing to go HIKING

similarly Henry's clothes are more expensive but high end thrifted if you catch my (tokyo) drift. henry is in a character space where he can really dig into that $$$$-but-distressed aesthetic. and once you contrast that cosplay of being poor and buying stuff that looks frayed and IS frayed and has that short shelf life with adam/blue it makes sense why the former hates his guts so bad. he also may pay extra for ethical clothing! but again, that only calms blue down not adam lol

if trc was a visual medium and I was a tiktoker i would go insane talking about quiet luxury and how Declan and Adam both fall into this position of people with OBJECTIVELY less money compared to their peers and how both of them are trying to replicate luxury (ie: clothing=persona/identity) to varying levels of success. adam wears old gifts from the ganseys and declan is very clearly called out by other characters to be overcompensating. neither are fully seamless and even though thats not an overt plot point it is DEFINITELY very significant since plenty of their story beats echo each other down to their relationship with ronan, who is a different fashion debate (eg. how punk can you get off of a bank account you dont need to look at and a shaved head which needs to be constantly maintained and a BMW you stole w no repurcussion). again I DO think stief implies fascinating plot points that she doesn't focus on but her display of class and economic variation is very very cool & obviously people w more context of specific USAmerican culture can have this debate better than I can

actually more nerding about visual environmental storytelling. blurry missing person "HAVE YOU SEEN ME?" posters with the face obscured by other things pasted over top, but a distinctly familiar aglionby sweater visible. henry and gansey always backlit with some variation of gold or royal purple in the scene behind them (flowers for gansey; a poster for henry etc) .

in my head book 1 does a split timeline with noah/whelk and rodansey/noah so the sign up sheets on the massive aglionby bulletin board are different, barely in focus, almost a continuity error.... or is it...

#since we don't have a visual representation yet & i refuse to acknowledge stief's art I'm just gonna mention some hcs #i think all of us are pretty set on what gansey looks/wears #my interest comes from declan. i dont believe his suits are made to fit. theyre tailored MAYBE but not made for him #and visually putting him in these political spaces where the suit has such value is. I'd love a combined comedy/horror where Henry goes on that road trip because he's scared Gansey's come back wrong. And we keep seeing him being like oh my god this is the proof and it's just normal Gansey stuff that he hasn't experienced yet due to only knowing him for 6 months. He works up the courage to mention something to Blue because he's worried for her and she's just like dude. This guy has always stared absently into the distance while muttering about nothing. If anything that's proof he came back RIGHT.

bluesey think henry is having Sad Third Wheel Emotions when he stares at them from the corner of his eye and theyre all like oh but we MUST involve him.. hes so upset to be apart from us... meanwhile henrys thought process is going over a 4 page google form checklist of like "changes in gait" "sclera coloring consistency" "posture differentials" and notes like "keeps glancing at me-- violent intent?? placed hand on my back: demonic influence and antagonistic tendency? leaned in strangely; broke personal boundaries: such lack of impulse control suggests active possession. will report additionally on confirmation."

his easygoing masking only lasted the first week and then he went FULL autistic mafia-baby mode after and its kind of really awkward when hes not actively bridging THEIR awkwardness so until they realise they can kiss (month 4) it is just MISERABLE

i've been reading mercymorn/augustine/jod fic recently and like. im being plagued with visions of a specific henrydeclan iteration where henry is normal but simultaneously also as neurotic and cunty as mercy and declan is in this augustine-action jod-thought position where he's ever so patient and amused because he sees right through H in a way both obscenely sad and obscenely cruel. something something recognition through the other

#they have got to fuck in this one though. i just dont think it would fit in any of my current heclans so id have to do it as a separate pwp #which is like. 109 hits and 3 kudos type of endeavor so the motivation is shot #will probably write it out for myself. just needed to share my passions for failmarriage #tbd #heclanposting
