when i say the wolfpack deserved better, what i mean is that giving them tragic backstories solely to propel the storyline of the white main characters is incredibly racist, insensitive, and just all around poor writing. Putting poc characters through unnecessary hardships as plot devices unrelated to their own character development is in extremely poor taste, especially since there was no emotional support given for said characters.

Leah and Emily didn't need to be abuse victims for their own positive development or the continuation of the story. Harry didn't need to die of a heart attack after he was developed as an irreplaceable tribal elder. Stop abusing your own characters for plot development unrelated to their own struggles.
