i haven’t used this blog in a really long time, so much so that my age in my bio is out of date by two years. i’m pretty much firmly out of my marvel phase. it was important to me while i cared, but i don’t care anymore, and that’s okay. maybe i’ll come back to it one day. probably not.

i’ve been thinking a lot about this blog, however. a lot about the experience of running it. i’ve gotten amazing messages- people telling me i helped them embrace their identity, that they enjoyed this blog and my sense of humor, and they admired me for standing up to transphobes.

i’ve also gotten a lot of not so great messages. my inbox is still full of harassment, and i delete most of it. i’ve been called insults and slurs for stating my opinions- or sometimes for just existing and trying to have a good time. and sometimes for stating facts. some of the people who have harassed me on my post i dont engage with. some i did. some of them were pedophiles and terfs and they were harassing me over a comic book character. i was a teenager when i made and used this blog.

if this blog has helped you at any point, i’m glad. truly i am. i’m just reflecting. i don’t really know if i want to ever come back to this blog, even if i started to enjoy marvel again, simply because of the level of vitriol i endured by being an openly genderfluid teenager with loud opinions.

i don’t think i should have had to be an inspiration for standing up to transphobes harassing me. i think i should have been able to be a sixteen year old who liked marvel.

Hey :) I have a friend who is genderfluid and they love the picture of the comic panels where Loki says, I don't identify as genderfluid! I am genderfluid... I identify as a bitch. And they where wondering if this was really in the comics or not; so I have been searching the origin of that picture for them but haven't found anything but that it probably came from Tumblr so here I am. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you :)

For the last time nonbinary people are not a monolith and even though no sexuality explicitly excludes attraction to nb ppl it does boil down to the nonbinary person’s okay-ness with dating someone w a specific label. I consider myself woman enough for lesbians but not straight men, for example. I have a friend who is completely unaligned and isn’t ok w attraction from straight ppl, lesbians or gay men. as a company marvel loves to coast off of lgbt rep in the form of minor original characters, au versions of established characters, successful attempts by writers/artists to get subtle hints and coding by by editorial without their noticing, baiting without any intention of following through on it, and even popular fan-theories on social media.

they will very rarely actually commit to making a (heroic) character canonically gay, bi/pan, or trans because they don’t want to alienate their bigoted old-guard fanbase and know that an army of die-hard fans will defend and applaud them for even the barest hint of lgbt representation, even if it’s just thinly-veiled homophobia or transphobia.

Most fans are thirsting over mcu Loki who is nothing else but a cis guy portrayed by a cis guy and we can't pretend Marvel is giving us some big lgbt+ representation with him. "It's in the comics" isn't enough evidence when a lot of people don't read the comics.

Ok its late and im on my phone but im gonna give my thoughts on this real quick. In the comics, Wanda is Romani and Jewish. In the movies she is portrayed by a white woman and had a cross hanging in her room. Just because the movies failed to represent her properly doesn’t now make Wanda Maximoff a white woman, it means Marvel erased her identity. In the comics Clint Barton is deaf. Him not being deaf in the movies doesn’t make him not canonically deaf, it means Marvel erased representation. In the comics, loki is bisexual and genderfluid. By not having that in the movies, it doesn’t make Loki cishet. It makes Marvel coward bitches who refuse to accurately represent their own goddamn characters. I dont care if people dont read the comics- white wandas, abled clints, and cis lokis still perpetuate the erasure of representation that the mcu hoped they could get away with. if you dont know, whatever, but once you do, it is your responsibility to either choose if youre going to help marvel continue to erase these characters’ real identities or if you’re going to go “hey that fucking sucks”.
