Not very christmas-y but I headcanon Mello being invited to a mafia wedding and he drags Matt along (free food after all!). They got their clothes from a thrift shop. Matts social anxiety and ADHD are kicking hard because large groups and his clothes are uncomfortable and he's bored etc etc. But there's free food, so... Mello forbid him to smoke pot before going, so he has at least SOME control over his lose mouth. They're shittalking about the guests in a language they're sure nobody speaks there while stuffing their faces with cake, stuff like that

This is gonna feel weird now but hear me out, ok? This is gonna be good, I swear!!

I have this Death Note AU I'm currently hyperfixiating on and it's pretty much "Wammy's is a boarding school and not an orphanage". So Mello, Matt and Near have actual families and lives outside the plot of the canon Death Note story. I'm trying to humanise and expand the characters and try to find realistic solutions for the weird things canon presents without changing too much of the original.

Ok, so a while ago I read that some people see Mello headcanonically as a croatian and having a croatian boyfriend myself -- what can I say, I couldn't aggree more with that. So I did some thinking and digging and here's what I came up with.
